Proposed deletion of Jamie Barclay[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Jamie Barclay, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Scottish Division Three[edit]

When you removed the proposed deletion for Jamie Barclay, you claimed that SD3 is "a FULLY professional league". This is clearly not the case. Both the second and third divisions are semi-professional and it is well known that East Stirling players were paid £10 a week at one stage. In future please do not create articles on players who fail WP:ATHLETE. Cheers, пﮟოьεԻ 57 13:22, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Yes, we are aiming to delete the articles on all players who have not played above SD2, as they all fail WP:ATHLETE.
  2. It is not fully professional. There are no ifs or buts.
  3. There should be no articles on Football Conference players either - these are also deleted.
  4. I am aware that there are some full time clubs in SD2, but it is not a fully professional league.
  5. I am not belittling your football league (though the SFL could do with some improvments, such as regionalising D2 and D3) and the fact that I haven't heard of him is irrelevant - I expand articles on people I've never heard of all the time, on the basis that they meet the notability criteria.
  6. We generally accept that players who have played in a cup game for a club in a fully pro league meet WP:ATHLETE. If Barclay had played in a cup game for Falkirk, I wouldn't have nominated him for deletion.

Football player infoboxes[edit]

Hi - I see that when updating player infoboxes you have been removing the {{0}} template. This is there so that the columns (tens & units) line up properly. Could you please review and revert your edits? Cheers. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 17:09, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of Hamilton Academical F.C. players[edit]

Hi there, I have noticed that you have an interest in Scottish football and have been editing articles relating to Hamilton Academical; any help I can get with this page would be much appreciated! Regards, GiantSnowman 15:47, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

At the moment I'm going through the Accies player category to find players with existing articles, and using stats from Neil Brown site. But, unfortunately, with uni work I've kind of ground to a halt...cheers, GiantSnowman 19:54, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of David MacLeod[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article David MacLeod, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Football who fails WP:ATHLETE because he has not participated in a fully professional competition. The highest level he competed at was in the Scottish Football League Second Division, which is semi-professional.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Anti-edit war message[edit]

Hi there SALTY, VASCO here,

Regarding this article, i have some comments on your inputs, as you had to mine: i was only trying to insert the club's fullname, Falkirk F.C., as an extra piece of info, especially in storyline, where it did not take up the space it would in infobox.

In a related note, you said (with "rolling eyes") that it's implied that FC appears in a club's name; well, i don't know all the names of English clubs, but there must be one without the "FOOTBALL CLUB", and even if there isn't, football is not exclusive to the British Islands. Take a look at another club MALLO played in: Deportivo de La Coruña, this and several others have pretty different denominations.

All in all, i'll wrap it up by saying i respect your choice and, since i hate edit wars, will not revert your inputs again. Hopefully you'll see my views too.

Happy editing, take care, from PORTUGAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 03:33, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Kevin Budinauckas[edit]

A tag has been placed on Kevin Budinauckas requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 07:32, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Reason For Paul Coutts At 21:39, 27 April 2009[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we would like to remind you not to attack other editors, as you did on Paul Coutts. Please comment on the contributions and not the contributors. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Your comment towards the editor could be seen as a personal attack. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lukeyboyuk (talkcontribs) 23:20, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Allan Jenkins dab[edit]

See Wikipedia:Requested moves.

Myself and another editor, occasionally treading on each others' feet, went Be Bold and moved this around to get roughly what I think you wanted. Showing good faith I also added Allen Jenkins.

I think this is pretty much what you wanted, but is not what you asked for and I said so. I think it is probably the best solution but there's no point in an editor saying done & dusted if you are not happy with it.

Can you help me, I was unsure whether to put Scots or Scottish. Since it's the "Scottish Football League" I went with Scottish, but usually I would say Scots, cos that's what my Scots friends prefer. (Never Scotch of course, only eggs and whisky are scotch). What would you prefer? Of course you can edit it yourself, just for my own reference in future. SimonTrew (talk) 12:29, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{0}}[edit]

Just to ask if you could please be mindful of the amount of {{0}} templates you're adding to infoboxes? For example, you've added one set too many on Laurent D'Jaffo. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 22:07, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The reason for this template is that the stats are merely able to line up to the correct amount (ie 10s, 100s all match up on the same column). Mattythewhite (talk) 12:33, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Junior footballers[edit]

I think this will need to be specified more, as "junior footballers" sounds a bit vague. Something like "Scottish Junior Football Association players" would be better IMO. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 13:11, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Ryan McWilliams requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Cheers, Mazeau (talk) 17:24, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Stephen McNally (footballer) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:ATHLETE, as he does not play at the fully professional level

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. PDCook (talk) 21:47, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I've created a new userbox for you and replaced the text you had at the top page with it (we're not really meant to include things like that on user pages even if it's mostly harmless). Club season articles[edit]

Thanks for the query. I moved the article to its new title at 2009–10 Greenock Morton F.C. season to bring it in line with the consensus reached by the Season Article task force (see here). At the same time, I moved all the articles in Category:Scottish football (soccer) clubs 2009–10 season and Category:Scottish football clubs 2010–11 season to the same format, so I don't understand your comment about moving "no others (e.g. Clyde's)".

By the way, please don't refer to an article as "my season pages" – anything on Wikipedia is open to each and every user to edit; that's its very nature: we don't own anything no matter how much time and effort we put in. Best wishes and good luck for next season. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 06:00, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ideally every season from the very beginning should have the title in the correct format, but I don't have the time. Hopefully, other editors can carry on where I left off. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 04:28, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:36, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Todd Lumsden has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable footballer. To merit a standalone article, he or she must meet the criteria stated at WP:NFOOTBALL , or the general notability guideline. This player passes neither of them.

Todd Lumsden[edit]

Hello to you too! Where is this permission from admins that you mention? If true then I will have no problem accepting it. I stumbled on this article, and a few others, and was merely following the criteria which are laid out here and here. If a link to this permission was included on either of those pages then I wouldn't have nominated it. My knowledge of Scottish football isn't exceptional, but I know a fair amount for an Englishman and it will be a joke if they create an SPL2 and regionalise the lower divisions. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 21:19, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That is fair enough. There are grey areas and vagaries in the criteria which I don't like. The Scottish First Division is one of them because I am sure there have been seasons when each team in the league has been professional, making it fully-pro. I hope the clubs group together and put as much pressure on the Glasgow bullies as possible (whenever I hear about Neil Lennon, he is complaining about someone). A 16-team league would be great. I've always liked Morton, funnily enough. My club has a unique name so I'd imagine that is the main reason. I'll remove the other two PROD's for First Division players, but one of them is in a sorry state. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 21:52, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It would of been polite courtesy to advise me you had applied for speedy deletion on the page. May not meet WP:footy but i feel meets GNG I have conteseted as i fell prod or AFD would have been a better avenue to take. Edinburgh Wanderer 20:54, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dont think you have nominated it correctly. Edinburgh Wanderer 21:49, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Also he dosent have to have played in a fully pro league to meet criteria for inclusion in Wiki. Just needs to meet WP:GNG. Anyway he is likely to meet it in January has he is currently the only Hearts keeper contracted past then. Edinburgh Wanderer 21:54, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thats to meet WP:Footy there is a higher power called WP:GNG anyway a player may not meet wp footy but if meets GNG then is able to be included on the encyclopaedia. Anyway will be decided by AFD although you will need to fix it first. There are three forms of deletion Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion which you initially did which was wrong. Admin then prodded as shouldn't have been speedy. I contested both which i am entitled to do. You have taken to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion but have not done it correctly so at the moment isn't even being considered. I cant fix it as cant touch the template. Edinburgh Wanderer 22:05, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dominic Cervi[edit]

It really shouldn't be in there. There is a difference between national team and club team, whatever team a players contract is registered to should go in the infobox. National teams are different because no-one is owned by a national team, players are only eligible to play for them. Cervi has never represented the USA at full international level, only up to u23, so that should be listed as his highest national team. As for Jordan Rhodes; OTHERCRAPEXISTS. Just a polite note to advise I reverted your change to the infobox. I initially changed it as don't see why it shouldn't be there especially as no mention of it in the main body of text. On further looking with the sfa however he has made two appearances for the under 19-s. I will fully update the article later. Edinburgh Wanderer 13:48, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Repost of Alistair Deans[edit]

A tag has been placed on Alistair Deans requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia, because it appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion process. If you can indicate how it is different from the previously posted material, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's discussion directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. "Just because you play for a country's team doesn't make you that nationality" shows you have zero idea about how footballing nationality works - the only way you can play for X is if you have X nationality - if you disagree with the categories then please make your case on the article talk page. Hibernian[edit]

First of all its actually Fancruft so at least get what your trying to talk about correct. Secondly a massive POV comment such as about a team which nobody outside of Scotland has heard of, without any truth in it makes this even worse. Thirdly your ability to know what something is doesn't mean it is unworthy of an encyclopaedic entry in fact thats what this site is for, education and knowledge. I do not consider it to be fancruft and clearly neither did the even more longstanding editor than myself who added it. Please do not come to my talk page making poorly judged statements like your initial comments highlighted again, im however more than happy to discuss something properly without irrational statements if you wish.Blethering Scot 21:08, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Saidy Janko[edit]

Hi Salty, in regards to Saidy Janko we obviously both agree he fails WP:NFOOTY but I disagree with your assertion he passes WP:GNG as all the coverage he has received is based around his transfer which is considered no more than routine. I therefore would be of the opinion that he still fails WP:GNG. I thank you for letting me know that you contested the PROD. JMHamo has proceeded with an AfD nomination which I would have done myself had I been online. If you do improve the article to where it reflects that it passes WP:GNG, I would of course reconsider my position. Cheers ★☆ DUCKISJAMMMY☆★ 09:35, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Category:SPFL medal winners[edit]

I don't think this is an appropriate category. It's collating different competitions into one category. e.g. Category:FIFA World Cup winners is easy to understand and it's a defining characteristic of the individual. This isn't. See Wikipedia:Categorization. I'm afraid that I will have to raise this at WP:CFD. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 10:53, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Falkirk Stadium location[edit]

Hi, you've said the Falkirk boundary ends at the A9 - do you have any evidence to back this up? Because the Falkirk (North) council ward goes to the M9, as does the Falkirk census locality, and of course the stadium's address is Falkirk not Grangemouth. I'm just a bit surprised that its location hasn't been edited before now, especially as it is used on many other pages as well. http://www.falkirk.gov.uk/maps-local/council-democracy/ward-boundaries.aspx http://www.scotlandscensus.gov.uk/ods-web/area.html

The address is 4 Stadium Way, Grangemouth. Salty1984 (talk) 14:06, 2 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not according to the stadium's website: https://www.falkirkstadium.co.uk/contact or the Royal Mail's address finder: https://www.royalmail.com/find-a-postcode - so I'll ask again, do you have any evidence to back up your claim that it is in Grangemouth?

The official town boundary (the dashed line running roughly vertically) on the official OS map on the council's website runs through the car-park to the west of the stadium. Although the address is given as Falkirk, the stadium itself lies on the Grangemouth side of the town boundary. See the OS map, for yourself, here - http://www.falkirk.gov.uk/places/general-offices/falkirk-stadium.aspx 10:01, 7 September 2019 (UTC)

Infobox timestamps[edit]

Hello. When updating statistics within the infobox of a footballer, please make sure you update the timestamp at the same time, so that both readers and fellow editors know when the information was last updated.

You can do this by replacing the existing timestamp within the |club-update= or |pcupdate= parameter for club stats, or the |nationalteam-update= or |ntupdate= parameter for international stats. For articles that use a DMY date format, use five tildes (~~~~~), or for MDY dates, use {{subst:mdytime}}. This will generate the specific time the update was made.

If you have any questions about this, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you, Mattythewhite (talk) 14:13, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Eglinton F.C. requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, society, or group that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
