A barnstar for you!

Collapsed. (Item was previously copied to user page.)
The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
A big thank you on behalf of Ceuta. Lots of improvementws of minor srticles adding those extra facts and adding extra quality. Particualarly pleased that you are overchecking my recent Casa de los Dragones which was an embaressing stub and now looks like a near "start". This article may well be the 1,000 new article from Gibraltarpedia. Thanks from me and the wiki Victuallers (talk) 15:48, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
Roger, cheers for the barnstar, it was interesting reading about Ceuta and verifying bits here and there. Sam Sailor (talk) 16:06, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Its an odd place, Ive never been there, but hope to one day. Im just writing an article about the Dragon House architect. Thanks Victuallers (talk)

I’ve been there on several occasions, yet I still have a very superficial knowledge about the place, I think. I’ll take a second look at the Dragon House article and see if I can contribute to the fundament you have built. Sam Sailor (talk) 19:09, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Elise page

Hi Sam, Thank you for the cookies. :) I did rephrase most of the sentences, so it won't be considered as copied material. How do I create a Reference? --Jane955 (talk) 11:43, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi Jane, and welcome once again to the wonderful and mysterious part of life called Wikipedia ;-) I will try go to the Elise page and see if I can help you going. Have a look at the help me template, it is very useful, and there are thousands of nice and clever people online at all times. (I'm not implying you can't ask me for help!!) :-) Sam Sailor (talk) 20:39, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

hi Sam I also don't live in the States.I live in Canada. where do you live? I noticed someone improved the page, hopefully from reliable sources, I don't have other sources other then what I can find online. I did rephrase the copied material but the notice is still there. I decided to start this page because she didn't have a page and because I wanted her views on her husband's death to be included in her page. They were only married 2 years, its very sad. I hope other editors won't remove that part. Do you know what is the policy regarding changing the content? --Jane955 (talk) 14:35, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi Jane. I live in Europe. If you open the Elise Jordan article in another window, than you will notice a tab called View history (if your GUI looks anything like mine). Click on that tab. There you will see all edits on the article. I did a few, hardly worth mentioning, but the article is still much too close to your initial copy-paste and we lack basic info on the woman.
Try to read Wikipedia:Five pillars
The reason you give for creating the Elise Jordan page, "I wanted her views on her husband's death to be included in her page", is (I am quite sure, but I could be wrong) not valid here, give WP:NOT a read. The question remains: is EJ notable in her own right? Ask yourself: would she be notable enough 2 months ago to have her own Wiki article? I don't know.
I will put a maintenance template on top of the article in a sec, it will give you a little more time to work on the article. Maybe a list like List of American journalists could be an inspiration for you? Click on some of them to see examples of other similar articles.
Also remember that there are several ways to get fast input on Wiki, one of them is the Teahouse.

Hi,

If you are wondering about the tweaking I've been doing, it's simply a case of making sure that the references have a consistent appearence. It makes it easier for future editors.

I'd also like to thank you for finding those additional references and adding them. All too often on wikipedia articles are created and no one bothers to edit them. If you have a look at the edit history of Sinfonia Concertante (Haydn) and compare the original 2008 version with the current one you'll get some idea what can happen.Graham1973 (talk) 15:48, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

I'm glad you found it useful. Sam Sailor (talk) 17:03, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

Not all editions did copy and paste.

The article I did its slightly rewritten. Why nobody can rewrite that Sam? Its like any other Wikipedia article. You are one nice guy but the article I almost did would risk deletion or redirection.

I say its needs to be rewritten.

Thank you. FreshCorp619 (talk) 18:11, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

I totally agree with you, the Monsignor Fraser College needs to be rewritten. Sam Sailor (talk) 18:18, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi IP man/woman, while it is considered linkspam when you keep insisting putting in a link to a website promoting his books rather than his personal website, I do think you should focus on contents and proving his notability. Sam Sailor (talk) 16:28, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

ASH

Just wondering if you've had a chance to check out my comments on the ASH talk page here? Superfly94 (talk) 15:43, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi Superfly. Yes, I did see your comments on the ASH talk page, I am just not motivated to fight the very obvious agenda pushing we wittness. Can I ask, do you read/speak Korean? Sam Sailor (talk) 17:49, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
I don't personally, other than being able to count to ten and say thank-you, but have a few friends that do. What, specifically do you need looked at? Superfly94 (talk) 18:28, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
A look at the View History of the articles in question shows a very specific distortion towards a single POV. Getting both articles up to a decent neutral encyclopedic level would take the combined effort of a handful of people without current or former affiliations to the article subjects. Most of the English language sources now available are very tainted either pro or con, and are not especially reliable. A look into the Korean sources might prove worthwhile. Also looking at what ASH actually wrote and compare that to what is now practised would be interesting. Sam Sailor (talk) 19:57, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
I agree...somewhat. WRT the ASH article itself, we really need to stay away with talking about what church believes what except for maybe a passing mention (WMSCOG believes ASH is JC, NCPCOG believes he's Prophet Elijah) unless those views are shared (such as sabbath worship, women wearing veils, etc), and focus more on his works, of which his original volumes are available on the NCPCOG site. Unfortunately, translated versions are only available on the Examining the WMSCOG site, which is a blog. Not sure if we can use those because of that, even though the site commissioned the translations from a reputable source. Can we link directly to the files and use that? I suspect there would be the accusation that we are breaking some copyright law, even though the version that is translated is the one from the NCPCOG site, which is open source under the author's original CR. The issue wrt talking about each churches' beliefs is that we can't unequivocally say which one is following ASH's beliefs more closely since he's no longer with us, which is why sticking to the commonalities is best. Superfly94 (talk) 20:41, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
Here's a book that was translated. http://ncpcog.co.kr/rb/home/b/0604/441 Superfly94 (talk) 20:42, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

You are asking a lot of interesting questions. I doubt I have good answers to most of them if any. My interest into AHS was spurred by encountering two members of the WMSCOG. They came to my door, and out of principle I seldom turn people away. Being brought up in a society with a Lutheranian backdrop their notion about introducing duotheism, a Mother God, seemed quite innovative. I invited them for dinner and we had a good talk despite their English possibly being even worse than mine. Both, judging from age, could have been my kids. Upon our second meeting two days later I was prepared. Mind you, I am not very familiar with making arguments based on Bible quotes, but it turned out to be quite easy to dismiss anything they were coded to say by pointing to other Bible quotes. Leaving them asking: "But what are we going to believe in now?" When I then turn to Wikipedia to see what is written about this sect and about their founding father, AHS, I don't get much wiser. The WMSCOG article is as it stands now a clean mission statement without any theological comments. The most obviously IMHO would be that the pluralis majestatis in Genesis is out of context used to support the Mother God concept. It has probably been lost in translation that Elohim is used in singular, not plural. Try argue that to people who haven't got the faintest clue about what you are talking. This could very easily be backed by RS. The problem you/we are facing as editors on Wikipedia is however, that despite the WMSCOG wanting to give the impression that they are so and so important, they have as of yet received very little scholarly notion in the West. Which is why a native Korean without present or former associations could prove valuable. Sam Sailor (talk) 22:31, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

I hear ya. I do have a few Korean friends that I could ping off to see if they have any interest in doing some work here. It would be nice to use the actual Korean web pages for info on ASH and the WMSCOG since they probably have so much more info and links to other sites worldwide. Nicki Minaj videography

Thanks for your comments :-). This is the first page I created, so I don't know what exactly makes a good page. Could you look over Nicki Minaj videography and see if improvements can be made? And how do I link it to the Nicki Minaj page? Thanks in advance if you can help. KaneZolanski (talk) 02:51, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi Kane, you're welcome. Its largely a splitout from either the main NM article or her Discography article, so I assume it is fine. You got your {{Main|Nicki Minaj videography}} under the Filmography heading in the NM article and a wikilink back to the main article in first line of the Videography article. I like your lead, it's short and give a quick overview of her output up until now. I put a wl to the discography in, but if you ask me I wouldn't link more. After all it's a subpage for those looking for details about the artist. I just ran Reflinks on the V article, have a look and see if everything is still fine. -- Sam 🎤 15:01, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
Thank you, yes everything looks fine now. Thanks for helping :-) KaneZolanski (talk) 06:12, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

Dude, what are you doing; why do I need a source to literally compute 17 + 6? You guys did this with last year's Tottenham Hotspur page and I had to fix it then too only that time you didn't give me slack about it. My OCD can't handle this page the way it is, and why you won't let me fix it remains a mystery. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Azide31 (talkcontribs) 21:14, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

My comments are not welcome there. I'm not, nor should I be part of that "investigation". I prefer Sam. I see two issues with the "investigation": (1) you cast such a wide net that you booted at least a few dozen experienced and new editors that made some good contributions (I looked and their work is good) and (2) you sent a ton of good articles to G5 as "punishment" yet I'm indifferent to them and instead you've punished the public and the subjects, depriving the public of useful information. As a next step, do you want to sort out the good and the bad?65.122.15.184 (talk) 02:00, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Sam

Hi, Sam, I am xhe02, also Artloverfromshanghai. I registered two usernames for I did not understand why you keep deleting the entry I created? Is there a problem with what I have written? Or is there a problem with my personal account? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Artloverfromshanghai (talkcontribs) 16:33, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi Xhe/ALFS, and thank you for your message. If you look at the two deleted articles Leo Xu Projects (LXP) and Leo Xu (LX) you see the reason for why they where deleted. The LXP article had been on wiki for some time. Large parts of it were directly copy-pasted from the company's Web page. Big no-no. Then you created the LX article. It was a 100% copy of http://leoxuprojects.com/?page_id=313. There is a bot that will dupe check new articles, and they get zapped or more correctly Speedy Deleted under this rule very quickly. It happened twice to LX. Then, I believe I remember now, but correct me if you think I am wrong, the LX page was created a third time, again self-promoting WP:COPYVIO and an administrator came and saw it (I am not admin). He, if my memory serves me well, promptly redirected LX to LXP. That means that he blanked the LX page and made it point to LXP. I believe he used the argument that LX did not yet meet WP:BLPNOTE. I got curious and went to the LXP. It was very promotional in its tone and large parts were directly from the company Web page ... sorry, I start to repeat myself now. I often find it a good exercise to dig into an article I am totally not into in any way, and I went and spend some time on the LXP article cutting out the worst parts, rephrasing other parts, adding references and so on. When I left it was arguably less obviously promotional than when I came. But I guess I should have been even rougher in my editing. At 05:43, 19 July 2013 Jimfbleak (talk · contribs), an admin, saw the LXP article and deleted it under this rule. May I suggest that you turn to him for advise? Best, Sam 🎤 17:47, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
Hi, Sam
Thank you for your answer. I just feel that the definition of self-promotion and advertising is very ambiguous. I looked into the wiki pages of several galleries and they all used highly positive adjectives and sentences. I guess I am just a bit confused here. Anyway, thanks a lot for helping out with the page! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Artloverfromshanghai (talkcontribs) 03:10, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
Hi again. I can understand you. I can understand how it feels. But writing auto-bios, or the company we work for, or a political cause we stand for, or the religious movement we believe in, etc. etc. all involves a risk of getting emotionally involved, and if we do get emotional it can be difficult to stay cool and write from a neutral point of view. WP:COI sums it up
You are absolutely correct when implying, that tons of pages on the Wiki have some sorts of problems, e.g. being promotional or slanted towards a certain POV or puffed up, and the answer is: get involved as an editor. Join Wikipedia:WikiProject Visual arts and start writing today.
Again, why not give give Jimfbleak (talk · contribs) a call on his talk page. He's an administrator, and can explain and guide much better than I. Best, Sam 🎤 09:30, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Shankargarhi

Hello Sam Sailor. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Shankargarhi, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: There is sufficient context to identify the subject of the article. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 03:40, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

Template:Gaetano Donizetti

May I ask the purpose of {{Gaetano Donizetti}}? It seems to duplicate the information already in the collapsible navbox on most Donizetti articles. Noticed because you added it to L'ange de Nisida where, in my opinion, it does not add any value. --Laser brain (talk) 13:15, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Much in the same way as Rossini's operas. In any very short articles it might not be obivious. On the other hand the navbox is collapsed, and in a short article, other boxes depending, it will provide a quick navigation to the other operas. In L'ange de Nisida I would say it is of value due to the length of the article. Best, Sam 🎤 13:27, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
I'm sorry but I disagree. The existing box is right at the top right and anyone can expand it to see the list. I request that you stop adding this redundant box to articles. --Laser brain (talk) 16:01, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
No problem, another user has made objections on the template talk page. I made it with good intention, and I am sorry if it dosen't make the same sense in the Donizetti articles as in the Rossini articles. Best, Sam 🎤 16:07, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
Addendum: Hi Laser. When posting a TB on your page I noticed this [1]. I can only imagine that the GD template must then have come at the worst possible time, and I'm terribly sorry for the inconvinience caused. Best, Sam 🎤 16:50, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
Oh not a problem at all. I'm not involved in the infoboxes mess except to comment that the needs of the audience should be the primary concern. That's why I queried you the way I did—not because I have a preference about templates, but because I was interested in the rationale. I suspect if everyone approached infoboxes in the same way, it might not have come to arbitration! --Laser brain (talk) 16:58, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

I suppose not. :) FYI I have removed the template from all articles where it was still present. Best, Sam 🎤 17:36, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi Sam. Even if this horizontal navbox seems to be currently redundant, it may well come in handy in the future, so be sure you keep a copy of it. The current state of play with vertical navboxes as opposed to {{infobox opera}} + horizontal navboxes as footers is still in flux and may take a few months (or centuries ) to sort out. I agree with Laser brain, it's a pity that both sides have taken such hardened positions. But hope springs eternal. Thanks for your work! Best, Voceditenore (talk) 20:27, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
Ciao Voce, e grazie per la tua risposta. Ti ricordo bene dall'articolo di Vicente Zarzo Pitarch. I do like horizontal navboxes, look at my user page! And I find then very befitting, and actually did little more than to replicate the already existing Rossini template for the same purpose. But I can certainly accept and understand if others might have opposing opinions. Chacun ses goûts. I can only imagine to what extend I might have upset the proverbial apple cart here. "Who's this guy blasting navboxes all over Donizetti?!" smile A prime examble of the trouble into which innocent ignorance can bring you. I'll copy the template to my user space. Thanks for the heads-up, and see you out there. Best, Sam 🎤 20:56, 29 July 2013 (UTC) ... Addendum: sorry, thought you were Italian. Sam 🎤 20:58, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Your thoughts

I would appreciate it if you could leave your opinion on wether or not the music videos should be listed on the discography page. I believe it should stay on the videography page due to discography being for musical pieces, but that's just my opinion. Once again, it would be appreciated. Hi Sam Thank you for your comments: could you assist me

This article has no links to other Wikipedia articles. I have loads of links but unsure how to tag the words with the link

This article is an orphan, as no other articles link to it. same as above

"This biographical article needs additional citations for verification." All the information was provided to me by the designer herself following an interview

"This article may be written from a fan's point of view, rather than a neutral point of view." how may I rephrase the article to make it less so?

"This article contains wording that promotes the subject in a subjective manner without imparting real information" same as above — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fashionnomad (talkcontribs) 19:42, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi Fashionnomad. Links to other articles from the Kim article is easy, I'll make a couple, you read WP:MOSLINK. Hey, I can see you already made links! Then it is only a matter of finding a balance. Orphan: To create links from other articles on Wiki to the Kim article is more difficult. I suggest you leave that for now and focus on the other points. The most important being establishing notability through reliable, published sources. I will try to find a couple of references and add them to the article for you. I don't think it sounds ideal that you got the info from Kim herself. It might be considered original research. And some of the things currently in the article is pretty close to if not lifted directly off webpages, e.g. "cultural ... mystery". If you ask my opinion, a long sentence in the lead like "Her cultural heritage has always been a bit of a mystery in the fashion industry as she fused well in a number of cultures since Mauritius involves the blending of several cultures from its history, as well as individual culture arising indigenously." is neither very clear, nor very encyclopedic. To me such a wording would be great in a press release, but it isn't what I expect from a factual entry on wiki. Did you try browsing List of fashion designers to get some inspiration? (A word of warning: you will when browsing find a pile of articles that have all sorts of problems, but that does not mean it's ok to repeat the pattern. Try look at e.g. Camila Alves, that's not bad. Factual and supported with references.) Also, did you join Wikipedia:WikiProject Fashion? There might be people there who could give you mcuh better ideas than can I. I will add a template to the article that will give you more time with your work. Sam Sailor (talk) 22:42, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
P.S. Talking about templates, you should not remove them as you did in this edit, since you started the article. Yeah, I know, lots of rules and things to learn on Wiki. :-) Sam Sailor (talk) 22:49, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
Hi Sam, thank you for your help there. Ok I think I'm getting the hang of this. I believe I have worked on: BLP sources|date=July 2013 & peacock|date=July 2013. If its ok, will someone remove the note/template from the article, or how does it work? Am I ok there now? yes I got inspiration from Manish Malhotra, but I will look through Camila Alves now :)yeah lots of rules, but hopefully I will get the hang of it. Fashionnomad (talk) 23:49, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi Sam, I have made several changes, including adding citation for verification. Could you advise if its looking any better now? Thanks

Fashionnomad (talk) 22:37, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Fashionnomad, if you ask me, I would try to find more citations to back up her notability. Read WP:BLPNOTE. Best, Sam 🎤 18:44, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion converted to PROD: House of Blutstein-Neumann

Hello Sam Sailor. I am just letting you know that I have converted the speedy deletion tag that you placed on House of Blutstein-Neumann to a proposed deletion tag, because I do not believe CSD applies to the page in question. Lack of sources on search looks dodgy, but I don't think it is blatant enough for speedy - PROD will give author a week to produce sources if he can. I've added a "hoax" tag which may bring more eyes. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 15:47, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi JohnCD, thanks for letting me know, and I acknowledge your experience and respect your decision. The thought that a German noble family be it ever so small does not pop up in 1 single book search or Google search or an article on de.wiki for that matter makes me quite certain it is fake. Add to that the claims: (a) mentioned first time in the 16th century, and (b) was made Reichfreiherr [sic], it is Reichsfreiherr, by the Habsburgers and still isn't mentioned makes me absolutely certain that we are dealing with a harmless but time consuming joke. Best, Sam 🎤 16:56, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I'm 99% sure it's fake, but surprising things turn out to be true sometimes. My favourite example (in quite a different line) where I have just beefed up the referencing: would you believe an annual festival to celebrate the culture of people of mixed Croatian/Maori descent? Check out Tarara Day. Cheers, JohnCD (talk) 17:41, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
JohnCD, I would have been sceptical and ask for another round of lager had you told me so in a private setting. Now I will just go and add Senka Božić-Vrbančić (July 2008). Tarara: Croats and Maori in New Zealand : memory, belonging, identity. Otago University Press. ISBN 978-1-877372-09-4. Retrieved 11 August 2013. to the references. Best, Sam 🎤 17:58, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
Correction: I can't, you already added it to refs. :-) Best, Sam 🎤 18:03, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

I changed your A7 speedy tag to a prod, since the group's claim to fame is apparently the album release. According to WP:NMUSIC, "Failing to satisfy the notability guidelines is not a criterion for speedy deletion". All the best, Miniapolis 17:59, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, Miniapolis, I think you are perfectly right in what you say. Best, Sam 🎤 18:12, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

H.G. Patel

(Initial post now archived @ User talk:GiantSnowman#2013#H.G. Patel) 'Morning GS. H.G. Patel was speedy deleted under A7 on 11 Sep. The article creator, a son or daughter of H.G. Patel, recreated it yesterday, and I tagged it again with A7. You removed the tag. Where in your opinion is there any claim of importance that disqualifies it for A7? Best, Sam Sailor Sing 06:06, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi there. A7 clearly says "The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source or does not qualify on Wikipedia's notability guidelines" and the article makes that claim, hence why I removed that tag. PS who created the article is irrelevant. GiantSnowman 08:15, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

I do know the A7 criteria, what I do not know is on what grounds you see the article make such claim, would you please elaborate? Best, Sam Sailor Sing 08:19, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
It makes the claim that he works for a "well known, prestigious and reputed" building company. GiantSnowman 08:35, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Yes, and so likely does a few hundred other people, and is not a qualifying claim of significance for the article subject. Do you want to uphold your decline CSD? Best, Sam Sailor Sing 08:46, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
We'll have to disagree on that; I stand by my removal of the A7 tag. GiantSnowman 08:51, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

We do, GiantSnowman. But if you want to correct my failure to see how a triple puffery sentence about a redlinked company like "well known, prestigious and reputed local organisation refer to as Ranjit Buildcon Limited" should be inherited by the subject and be a credible claim of significance for the subject, I'll gladly listen to your advice. Cheers, Sam Sailor Sing 12:21, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

Puffed up though it may be, it is still a claim of notability. Feel free to tag as promotional with WP:CSD#G11. GiantSnowman 12:24, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Article will be tagged with G11 then, which I see was the reason for deletion the second time the article was created.[3] The claim made is for the company, not for the individual, and is not inherited. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 12:38, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
FYI, I have SALTed the article. Oh, and it has never been deleted as A7 - A3 once and G11 twice. Regards, GiantSnowman 14:53, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Under the new title H.G.P it now has been deleted as A7. User also reuploaded article in Talk:H.G._Patel. I tagged it with G8. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 14:38, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

Breath Therapy

HI Sam

I have been trying to assist wikipedia with the provision of an improved description of what breath therapy means and how is related physiologically to our bodily functions - but I think I accidentally deleted the other descriptions. Please note that advertising or soap boxing, as you called it was not my intent here. I was attempting to align Breath Therapy with other wikipedia descriptions relating to breathing, breathwork and breath and I would appreciate your assistance in doing so. The current descriptions are not useful or practical descriptions to explain the science of Breath Therapy.

If I sent you a description that could explain through factual information the process of Breath Therapy and its benefits to our bodily systems, would you consider placing it in the wikipedia description of breath therapy.

I do not care if there is a link to my page what I care about is wikipedia providing correct descriptions.

(talk page stalker) @Breath Therapy: The spam link must be removed. It is to a blog anyway and failed WP:EL. What you have failed to establish is that this is a notable topic. Establish that alone and the article may remain. Fiddle Faddle 09:41, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

SPI

I did take a thorough look through the evidence, but I do not believe there is sockpuppetry afoot. I do think there is substantial meatpuppetry, and that most similarities in editing are a result of offsite coordination. This is still abuse, however, and needs to be dealt with. My close of the SPI was only a reflection of my belief that no one should be blocked for socking. I'm honestly not sure what should be done in this situation, and I am disappointed that your attempt to raise the issue on ANI did not garner much attention. Likely the article needs to be put under some kind of probation. Someguy1221 (talk) 07:45, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply, Someguy1221. In my preparation I read dozen of prior cases. The impression I got (correct me if you think I'm wrong) was, that blocks are often applied in less obvious meat cases than this (section 1). Also, in section 2, we have confirmed IP socking. Is your call to close the case final? Would a comment from e.g. Bbb23 be appropriate, as he knows the two articles and the the history of the users? With what I have seen on the talk pages of those articles, a common sense dialogue with these SPAs is impossible. Their COI overshadows anything else. Just for the record new accounts interacting with the master are popping up: [4], [5]. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 08:13, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
My decision is not final. Just the opinion of one clerk. You are welcome to reopen the case and ask for more opinions. Someguy1221 (talk) 23:02, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
Thank you. @Bbb23: Do you have time to comment here? Best, Sam Sailor Sing 10:48, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
I wasn't aware of the SPI report, Sam. Obviously a lot of work for you to compile. My comment as an administrator is a practical one. I don't think I could take any action because I'm WP:INVOLVED. Way back in April I blocked Nancy for edit warring, but since that time I've changed content in the article. Just out of curiosity, when was the problem last at ANI? The archiving at ANI has been a mess lately, and when I searched on Nancy, I found a discussion from late August/early September. Is that the one Someguy is referring to? Was there something more recent?--Bbb23 (talk) 12:42, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

@Bbb23: Thank you for dropping by, and thanks for your input. I thought {{u}}sing you in the SPI filing would echo on your notification list, but I bet your dance card is often full here.

WP:INVOLVED has a caveat: "[admin ...] whose prior involvements are minor or obvious edits which do not speak to bias, is not involved". But you know best, are you involved? Even if, that does not exclude your opinion in a SPI case, even less so here, is that correct?

ANI: I know of only one. As you found it by a search I have to say that I mention it on SPI in section 1.23. Also notice section 1.24: the (suspected) meats did not reply on ANI.

When even you (and get me right, the second person pronoun here is said with admiration; Asaram Bapu etc. etc.), when even you miss the link to the ANI discussion from my SPI filing is that because my Germanic sleuthing hits like a wall'o'text that makes a clerk/admin go "OMG, I'll pass on this one!" and leave it to the next? Can it be condensed?

Naturally I am mildly perplexed when a case that took me several days to prepare is dismissed with a CU on selected socks and a closure without preventative measures taken. (No intention of disrespect towards the CU and clerk involved.)

Can you find time to read the whole SPI filing point by point? And give me feedback. If you find that I am jumping to conclusions based on my findings I'd prefer you tell me frankly, so I can learn from the mistakes.

Once again thanks. I know you are few crewing in that end of the ship. I hope to be able to help out if one day I learn the ropes. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 22:27, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Sam, it's true that even if involved, I can still express an opinion, but you're asking me to do quite a bit of work on a report that was already rejected by a competent administrator. I'm just not going to have the time to do it. My suggestion is you start another topic at ANI and keep the evidence shorter to support your request for blocks. If you do, perhaps I'll comment there. It's a messy article with a checkered history, but those kinds of articles attract problems.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:14, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
Roger that, Bbb23. Apart from Someguy1221 frankly saying it "needs to be dealt with" and "I'm honestly not sure what should be done in this situation". Long term COI editing is not dealt with in a one-liner SPI. And you are, I believe, the admin best suited to comment and step into character in this case. But I will get some sleep now. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 00:32, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

Kunchacko Boban

Hai Sam Sailor, the article kunchacko boban have been vandalizing by tow users, i reverted it back[6]here. do you think i made a mistake you can leave me a message on my talk page Life is a game22 (talk). Thanks. 15:20, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Life is a game22. First of all, as you are a brand new user with no prior knowledge of Wikipedia, I will place a welcome message on your talk page. If you have any question about how Wiki works, do not hesitate to ask me, although I do think you will get better answers at Wikipedia:Teahouse. Secondly, you created Kunchacko Boban (actor), an unnecessary disambiguration of Kunchacko Boban (KB) of which we have only one, and then redirected Kunchacko Boban to "your" page Kunchacko Boban (actor). As you see, "your" page was very speedily deleted. Thirdly, you then copy-pasted an old version made by indef blocked sock puppet Onam2013. Looking at the history of KB I can tell that edit warring has been going one for a long while. Looking at the talk page of KB I can see that JK and TheRedPenOfDoom have raised their concerns about the article. The version you reintroduce has WP:BLP and WP:COPYVIO issues. I ask you to go to the article talk page and engage in a dialogue with the involved editors. Please also read WP:NOTVAND. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 23:36, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Hello Mr. Sam Sailor,

You just sent me a message regarding the Nightlife Entrepreneur Page. I have never created a Wikipedia page before, and I guess i did something i shouldnt have? Please help me out here... This page is geared towards nightlife here in the States, as you know a huge industry that drives unheard of amounts of traffic. That said, this is important to me... Not just because this is the industry that i have made my living on for the past 18 years, but also an industry that millions and millions of people are interested in... Not to mention some of the multi-billion dollar corporations that are involved as well. Again, please forgive my ignorance towards the proper way to set up this page. With your guidance I am sure this will be a great page! Take care, hope all is well in the mean time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nightlife Entrepreneur (talkcontribs) 06:21, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Hello Dudas, and thanks for your message. The {{expand language}} template does not indicate a problem. It just indicates a possibility for expanding the article from the same article in another language, in this case German. Nothing wrong with that, we do that all the time. If we have a nice article in one language there is no need to write it from scratch in another language. As for photo, I will add the photo found on Commons that is used on de.wiki. Since you are Lajos Dudas himself, please read WP:AUTOBIO. Let me know if I can help you further. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 09:49, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing my blunder. I left 88.112.193.20 an apology. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 16:21, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
Jim, no harm done, you did what I would have done, reverted the IP back to the registered user and issued a level 2 warning. If anyone is to blame here, it is I, who reverted in the first place. But I was fooled by the IP triggering the BLP vandalism abuse filter, changing the infobox to criminal, and including the article foreign name "Bernardo Provenzano" in the infobox. All is well. Happy editing. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 17:37, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
I was really tired; maybe shouldn't have been Huggling. Probably that combined with the rv history, the name change, the infobox change, and the blp tag on the edit summary. There was an edit summery, so I still should have looked further. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 01:00, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

I do fix when I can - and it puts them in my watchlist with a note for what needed fixing. So then I can go back and gather the ones I can fix. However it's true that both sometimes I can't/don't know how or don't have energy to fix straight away. Since I search by tag on occasion I figured other people do that as well which puts the page up on their radar too.-- 🍺 Antiqueight confer 18:06, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

A11

Having been a vociferous supporter of A11, I find I'm turning them down... I deleted Bebided, but as a hoax. A11 is for things invented by Shawn and Wayne at Bloggsville High last Thursday. They probably did, but who gives a toss? It's a case of AGF - they say they did, and they could have. So it's not a blatant hoax. I reckon Bebided was. It won't work, and one of their references is to a badly scanned old book. (I've had a lot of trouble with OCR and scanned documents...) They've looked up the word, and found that ref - but not looked closely at it. Peridon (talk) 21:38, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions

We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

Views/Day
Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
Quality
Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.

The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Content
Is more content needed?
Headings
Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
Images
Is the number of illustrative images about right?
Links
Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
Sources
For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!

Jung Myung Seok sources — need English translations of Korean quotations

Hi. Thanks for adding source info to the Jung Myung Seok article. I have a (hopefully small) request for you: Could you add English translations for the Korean-language quotations from the news stories cited as sources? Per WP:NONENG, "When quoting a non-English source (whether in the main text, in a footnote, or on the talk page), a translation into English should always accompany the quote." In order for readers and editors who don't speak Korean to be able to verify that the cited news stories really do substantiate the claims in the article, we really do need to include English translations of quotations from these sources.

Also, could you take a look at the existing English translations of the headlines (titles) of the Korean news stories, and clean them up where appropriate? Some of the English translations of headlines that are currently in the article don't really make sense to me (that is, they don't read like proper English, and I'm not sure what they are supposed to mean). For example, "JMS (Jeong Myeong Seok) seeds, rape 60 million won alimony confirmed followers" — the "translation" of the headline of current footnote #18 — is going to baffle and bewilder just about anyone who reads it. Anything you can do to help make these Korean-language sources as clear as possible to English speakers would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks again for helping out with this article. — Richwales (no relation to Jimbo) 16:36, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

@Richwales: Thanks for thanks and for dropping by. I wish I could help out here, but, alas, my knowledge of the language is rudimentary and I rely 99% of the time on making heads and tails of the machine translations. In case of the citations I added earlier, I am sure they support what they are meant to support. Au contraire I was going to ask Shii, whom I thought spoke Korean, if he is positive that the Nocut News article directly supports the statement 10,000 women were recruited for such purposes. It sounds like a high figure to me (WP:REDFLAG) and should be challenged asking for some good sources. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 17:04, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
You are right Sam Sailor, I had a native speaker read the article to me. Nowhere is the number 10,000 in the article. The line says something to the effect that there are 100 sexually pure women under his instruction.(not that they are being kept for his sexual exploitation).MrTownCar (talk) 04:23, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
OK, thanks for letting me know. I see that Shii has already included translations for the Japanese quotations, but not the Korean quotes. I've been asking a few of my "real-life" Korean-speaking friends for help off-wiki, and I plan to add whatever translations they can offer. — Richwales (no relation to Jimbo) 17:15, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
I can speak Japanese, and the Google Korean-to-Japanese translator allows me to identify what section is being quoted fairly accurately, but I'm hesitant to re-translate that machine translation to English. Shii (tock) 18:01, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
I would prefer the word sensational to be used regarding the 10,000 women just like the rest of SHii version of the article. At what point do inteligent people raise an eyebrow at the material presented before them? Mr. Sailor, do you get the sense that the article posted by Shii is a NPOV article and that the tone represents quality reporting based on unbiased citations? Not one single citation represents an alternate point of view and the Civil Governement article was thrown away by a consensus panel that doesnt speak korean, has never been to Korea and has never met anyone in Providence and does not even know who publishes Civil Government. Rather disturbing, unbalanced and down right malevolent (IMO). I would love to get your feed back.MrTownCar (talk) 02:27, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
@MrTownCar: When you pass a judgement that reads like "the Shii version of the article is sensational" aren't you then both projecting a wish of ownership of the article onto Shii, and confirming what your edit history[9] seems to show: an inability to accept anything critical to JMS and Providence? I do not see a Shii version or a Richwales version or any other single user version of Jung Myung Seok for that matter when I look at the article and its talk page. Both editors here mentioned have a long history on Wiki, and I admire their ability to handle the filibustering on the talk page. All the issues you now bring up on my talk page have been talked over again and again: Why citations on a convicted serial-rapist hardly can be seen as unbiased for those people who for any reason cast doubt about the judicial system and the credibility of his victims' testimonies; why those same people might want to apply their freedom of speech in a manner akin to how they did towards The Dong-a Ilbo: push their minority view on Wikipedia, and what if any weight their views should be given; and why primary sources therefor should be used with extreme caution as should unreliable sources as Civil Government that fails verification as independent from the subject and his organization.
Is 10,000 women were recruited for such purposes sensational? I would not be surprised if the average reader of the Jung Myung Seok article finds that a 50-60 year old leader of what Korean mainstream Christianity through The National Council of Churches in Korea views as a heretic cult,[10] under the pretext of being Messiah, and that having intercourse with him could wipe off sin, who for years lures teenagers into his organization and abuses them, is a sensational story, to put it politely. But "Rather disturbing, unbalanced and down right malevolent" would maybe fit that story far better than your idea that consensus building can't be formed unless editors speak Korean, have been to Korea, and have met someone in Providence. Assuming you logically yourself qualify for all three, why not give us a full translation of the Nocut News source? Please make it available as a subpage to your user page and link to it here or on the article talk page.
Your most recent blanking is disruptive as the quote in the citation is very clearly supporting the statement, except for the quantification of 10,000. I will reinstate it leaving out the 10,000. You have previously tried to remove it as part of this deletion:
In an edit like that you manage to remove 30 citations. If you have reasons to believe that Shii is misusing his position as an admin during the editing process, an accusation you also bring up subsequently on the article talk page, Diff of Talk:Jung Myung Seok, one of several possibilities for you would be to file a WP:RfC/U. Sam Sailor Sing 13:51, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
There is too much to repeat here... put bluntly for any person admin or otherwise to cast expert analysis of this article without all the facts is arrogant and ignorant. Have any of the contributors studied the thirty lessons ..no. Can any of them tell me who publishes Civil Governement .. no but you just alluded that it is published by Providence..it is not. Can you tell me what DNA evidence was produced at his trial? There was none. He was convicted by testimbny with zero scientific evidence. I have no problem accepting the hard truth but I dont accept hyperbole and poor sourcing.. Many moons ago Shii produced a version with a citation from News Unlimited in Australia. I contacted them via email and they confirmed they NEVER wrote an article about Jung Myung Seok. I still have the email. That is enough for me to make up my mind AND "PASS JUDGMENT" about the agenda of the contributor who is an admin....despicable and that person gets defended by you and Rich Wales? I dont need ownership of the article but I demand the truth be put forth.
What verification did you perform for the Civil government magazine? It is only published in Korean and in Korea.
Tell me what test you use to weed out planted articles beyond a shadow of the doubt like the news unlimited article now removed and I will provide a translation of the nocut article.MrTownCar (talk) 15:03, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Jung Myung Seok, again — translations for Korean quotations and headlines

Hi. Thanks for supplying an additional Korean-language source for the Jung Myung Seok article.

As I've said earlier, I believe we should include English translations for the Korean titles (headlines) and quoted excerpts, so that readers who speak only English will be able to evaluate these sources and see that they really do support the statements in the article with which they are associated.

In the case of this source which you just added, is "Information Network on Christian Heresy" the English translation of "현대종교"? Or is one of these the name of the organization which produced the source, and is the other the actual title of the story? And can you come up with an English translation for "정명석은 1975년도에 측근 신도들에게 통일교 창시자 문선명의 사명은 끝났고 1978년부터 자신의 사명이 시작됐다고 공언하기도 했다"?

Also, by any chance, can you read that Civil Government article which MrTownCar gave us a link to just now (the page at mjnews.co.kr), and give me a general idea of what the article says, and of whether the author appears to have a bias (either pro- or anti-JMS), or whether he/she seems to be impartial? Thanks again. — Richwales (no relation to Jimbo) 03:02, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

  • @Richwales: Korean: 현대종교 (hyeon-dae-jong-gyo cf. www.hdjongkyo.co.kr) = Modern Religion. Likely the preeminent Korean research institution on Christian sects and cults. (I came across the name frequently in Ahn Sahng-hong and World Mission Society Church of God, two articles that for a long time have been in need for attention and have been stonewalled.) "Information Network on Christian Heresy" is what they call the online Db. Headed by a professor Tark if memory serves. I believe they publish a monthly journal and larger studies from time to time, e.g. for the Korean government. I can dig up more info if someone starts waiving the RS flag here. As for translations I prefer that language desk is asked. Do you want me to do that? As for Civil Government I suggest MrTownCar translates. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 03:34, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
  • So, then, is Hyeondaejonggyo the name of the "author"? And "Information Network on Christian Heresy" would be the "publication"? And if this is accurate, then what would be the name of the "article" or "story" being referenced here? Regarding people "waving the RS flag", I've been hoping to be somewhat preemptive here — the sources need to be as solid as possible, so that we can hopefully avert another edit war (or get uninvolved people to step in and put a stop to it if a new edit war does materialize). — Richwales (no relation to Jimbo) 03:47, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
  • @Richwales: Your questions prompted me to read about the parametres on {{Cite web}}. I am not sure what argument would be best suited for which data goes where in a case like this. "현대종교" (translit.: "Hyeondaejonggyo") (Eng.: "Modern Religion") is the web page title in a browser. It is the publisher, cf. ko:현대종교. My choice in Diff of Jung Myung Seok was based on what I observed in Ahn Sahng-hong. I assume that e.g. {{cite web|url=http://www.hdjongkyo.co.kr/html/sup01_1.html?Hid=7|title=Information Network on Christian Heresy|accessdate=2013-11-04|author=현대종교 [Modern Religion] | language=Korean|quote=정명석은 1975년도에 측근 신도들에게 통일교 창시자 문선명의 사명은 끝났고 1978년부터 자신의 사명이 시작됐다고 공언하기도 했다.}} could be argued, but if you put "Information Network on Christian Heresy" in the author field I do not know what would be logical to put in the title field. Your bet is likely better than mine. I do not regard it as very important. ... On another note, if you missed it above in my reply to MrTownCar, did you know that Korean mainstream Christianity through The National Council of Churches in Korea views Providence/JMS/CGM as a heretic cult?[11] Best, Sam Sailor Sing 10:39, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
  • Martin Luther was considered heretical and Jesus of Nazareth was consider a blasphemer at the time they were living. What is your point about heretic cult?MrTownCar (talk) 04:38, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

Prirazlomnoye field article

Sam,

The last 2 paras in Environmental Issues contain multiple assertions not hard facts. For credibility it should at least acknowledge that these are controversial assertions.

Brgds Henry 106.68.248.117 (talk) 11:32, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi Henry. Thanks for telling me, I have zero knowledge about the Prirazlomnoye field. That being said, and apart from the all caps looking mighty shouty, you still have the burden of proof when you add to the article. Until then it's just assumed to be your opinion. So ... what to do ... if you have a couple of URLs that support the notion that it's activist propaganda backed with no solid fact then you could post them for me here on my talk page, and I will show you how to add them to the article to support a more neutral statement like e.g. Other researchers point out that this might not be the case because [ladaladadumdilada]. I am not sure about any specifics on that, but clubs and organizations are a part of EVERY school and so per WP:ROUTINE they are certainly not encyclopedic, particularly when unsourced, or sourced only to the school's own promotional website. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 19:08, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. WP:ROUTINE covers e.g. Planned coverage of pre-scheduled events, especially when those involved in the event are also promoting it, is considered to be routine. Your request for rollback

Hi Sam Sailor/Archive 1. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! v/r - TP 23:46, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

Brand New Eyes

Hi Sam, I'm the person you sent a message to earlier, I just forgot to log in. I just thought I'd message you because I'm a little confused. The source that was added before that was older that one and stated that the album only went gold in Ireland, while Hayley Williams clearly states in the video that it indeed went platinum. Just thought I'd ask why that should be changed if it's completely different information? Thanks, Bobby Bobby (talk) 00:09, 11 Nov 2013 (UTC)

@Bobbyring96: Hi Bobby. I have reverted my revert, Thanks for letting me know. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 00:17, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

You made a mistake

You made a mistake in reverting the edit I made to Denny Party. I think I already explained myself sufficiently in the edit summary, which was: "‎changed the "frow" wiktionary link to a froe wikipedia link - it's an alternate spelling of the same word, and the 'pedia entry has much more relevant info as well as a picture."

I don't know if I'm supposed to go and do the edit again now, or if you will realize your error and change it back, but I don't care. It doesn't hurt me at all if that link isn't as useful as it could be. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.251.37.117 (talk) 01:18, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

@69.251.37.117: I certainly made a mistake and reverted it back within seconds. If I can help you further, let me know. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 01:24, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
Cool. Glad to see you're quick to fix your errors. I do wonder though if this looked like vandalism somehow, or where the "assume good faith" thing figured in. Seems like this would have been unnecessary had the edit summary been read in the first place. 69.251.37.117 (talk) 01:35, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
@69.251.37.117: Your edit did not look like vandalism at all, it merited no revert whatsoever, the edit summary was second-to-none, the mistake was all due to my fat fingers & foggy brain combo. Hope it helps! Best, Sam Sailor Sing 01:41, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
Fair enough, I can't fault someone for either of those. Sorry if my comments seemed harsh, but I've had similar things happen before, and I was a bit irritated, but also wondering if the edit had been done automatically or something. Thanks for clearing it up. 69.251.37.117 (talk) 01:53, 11 November 2013 (UTC)

Removal of links from Measuring instrument

Hello!

On 13 November 2013, 20:03, you did an extensive edit of Measuring instrument. According to the edit summary, this was supposed to be only formatting: "General formatting using script; formatting: 4x nbsp-dash, heading-style, mdash, whitespace (using Advisor.js)". However, in the process you also removed lots of wikilinks. Was this on purpose? Most of those links were on headings, which could be argued to be bad style, but all the article is bad style anyway... I think they were useful anyways, as the pointed to the definitions of the quantities to be measured. Then, shouldn't this removal at least be discussed on the talk page before?

Regards, —Edgar.bonet (talk) 09:42, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

@Edgar.bonet: Hi Edgar. I understand you. And I love the argument which could be argued to be bad style, but all the article is bad style anyway. The ES, which is generated by the scripts not by me, is correct, as no changes to contents were made. I guess the script can make no distinctions when it comes to wikilinked headings and simply remove them all per MOS:HEAD. I am looking at Diff of Measuring instrument now. I don't think it is a desirable outcome that Strain gauge is unlinked at c. line 372 just because it was bluelinked at c. line 325, just to take one example. But that's the limitation of a script. In a case like this simply undo/revert the previous edit (or here restore to a previous version), and open the discussion on the talk page {{ping}}ing the editor you reverted. All part of the BOLD, revert, discuss cycle protocol. Looking at revision of Measuring instrument as of 20:01, 13 November 2013 the heading linking starts at section 6.1 Electric charge. The question we need ask is, what do we think would be good for the reader. And I think it makes sense to link to many of these terms. The question the is how to link to them, and how many we want to link to. E.g. Torque is not linked, but Electric charge is linked in its heading although it has just been linked to in the preceeding paragraph. Electric current is linked twice in the same heading, but is mentioned in the first line of the paragraph from where it could be linked. Both cases are typical examples of overlinking. But let me hear your opinion. We can move this dialogue to the article talk page. For now I will restore to the previous version and make a couple of small changes to linking, and you can tell me how you think it works out. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 11:31, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

undoing my editing

Hi there. Never knew you could do editing on wiki. I was glad to know that but the place needs a bit of tidying up in terms of rules and in terms of user friendly. Regarding my contributions, if reliable source is the main problem then I see no reason for undoing by edits. I mainly explored the fallacies of latest edition to the article by citing Hobbes' theory of war of all on all. He is reliable enough as far as I am concerned. I did not reference his famous statement as it is well known by anyone who is familiar with this branch of political science. It seems to me it is undue censorship and a misleading addition to a well established fact. NotStupid46 — Preceding unsigned comment added by NotStupid46!! (talkcontribs) 00:22, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

@NotStupid46!!: Then cite Hobbes. I will gladly help you. Is he cited online? Then post the URL, and I'll show you how to work it into an article as a reference. Do you know of a book by him? Then we could try to search Google Books and make a citation from there. Anything I can do to help you get started, you name it. Wikipedia can seem a little complicated at first, but you'll soon get the hang of it. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 00:35, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi Sam,

You have undone an edit that I made to Merlin Entertainments under the subtitle Controversies. Your reason being that you felt the article was better before I made the change.

The reason that I made the change was because the original article was both biased and inaccurate. I have no agenda other than to impartially report the facts in a subjective and unbiased manner and to add accuracy in place of passionate rhetoric.

The article as it again reads is as below.

In October 2013 Merlin's Thorpe Park attraction became engulfed in damaging controversy when mental health campaigners accused it of putting profit before the welfare of those with mental illness. Its Halloween attractions included a feature called The Asylum, complete with "scary" patients who had "taken over the Asylum" - coming just weeks after similar controversies involving supermarket chains Asda and Tesco[17] the commercialist behaviour of Thorpe Park management was contrasted unfavourably in the media, Twitter and by mental health campaigners who believed The Asylum perpetrated stigmatising and damaging images of mental illness [18] [19] In November, just after the Asylum had closed for the season, Thorpe Park finally agreed to change the name in response to being reported to Surrey police for hate crimes.[20]

The points that I feel need editing are as follows...

1. It states that 'attraction became engulfed in damaging controversy'. This is purely a subjective comment as there is no proof that the controversy was indeed damaging. Indeed the attraction remained open for the rest of the season and although there were indeed complaints made (including a 6000 name petition), there is no reason to categorically say that the controversy was damaging. 10'000s of customers continued to use the attraction with favourable reviews. My only edit here would be to add the word 'potentially' so that it reads 'attraction became engulfed in potentially damaging controversy'.

2. There is a factual inaccuracy in the article with a reference to an article in the Metro that supports the fact that it is inaccurate. It states 'In November, just after the Asylum had closed for the season, Thorpe Park finally agreed to change the name in response to being reported to Surrey police for hate crimes.[20]' If you look at the article in the Metro that is referenced at [20] then you will see not only that the headline reads 'Thorpe Park ‘considering changing Asylum maze over name row’ but it quotes the official press release from Thorpe Park which states ...

'UPDATE: A Thorpe Park spokesperson said: ‘Thorpe Park has not agreed to change anything. However we have listened to the debate the Asylum Maze has provoked. For us, this has always been about a particular context – the maze forms just a small part of a larger adult aimed Halloween event. ‘No offence was ever intended, it is not nor was it ever intended to be a realistic interpretation of a mental health or any other institution. We have taken this debate extremely seriously, and will take all of the points raised into account when planning any future events for 2014.’

My only edit here would be to say 'In November, just after the Asylum had closed for the season, it appeared that Thorpe Park had finally agreed to change the name in response to being reported to Surrey police for hate crimes, however a Thorpe Park spokesperson categorically said that they had not agreed to change anything[20]'

This official stance by Thorpe Park has been consistent and reported across other media and social media.

My edit on this point could have been to remove the whole sentence, including the reference, as the sentence is inaccurate and the reference doesn't support it. However I am only interested in providing some balance to the article, which has been written from a single strong point of view, and feel that it is important to keep the reference, albeit alongside the correct context.

I trust that you will add the accuracy and balance back into the article and remove the inaccurate bias and subjectiveness that currently exists.

Many thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sbaker11 (talkcontribs) 11:56, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

@Sbaker11: Hi Baker, thanks for your message. I will move it to the article talk page. It will take an hour or two before I get back and have time to look at your points and the sources supporting the article. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 12:13, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

Not vandalism.

Why have you reverted my edit again. It is clearly not vandalism, and you have reverted the article to blatant advertisement for a company. If you are not going to allow the article to be factual, maybe it should be deleted completely as it is currently an advert for a company and doesn't belong on wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Infinitycoin (talkcontribs) 19:52, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

@Infinitycoin: The article Coinbase is about a company. If you find that the article has problems, go ahead and edit. What you continue to write about would to the best of my belief be more suited in Bitcoin protocol. Have a look. Sam Sailor Sing 20:03, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi Sam- Thanks!

Hi Sam. I am a newbie, and am pretty unsure what I am doing. I created an article about Harry Watts the jockey, who is related to this titleholder. The article about him is in draft review (I think), so I figured the link might be useless. I added the information that the titleholder is now disassociated from the organization. Is that relevant information? I figured it was because of the history the pageant has with dethronements, and lack of paid scholarships. Thanks for the help! InfoKlepto (talk) 09:29, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

No prob, InfoKlepto, and again welcome. You know, I risk sounding blunt, but beauty pageant stuff isn't exactly my field, so I'll leave that to someone else, but I can't see that what you wrote is controversial. And as for the linking of Meghan Williams it is actually I who make a mistake here. My apologies. She was redlinked before, i.e. she does not have an article. So linking it to Harry Watts (jockey) when it becomes an article makes sense if they are married or in a confirmed relationship. Common sense applies. Let me know if I can be of any help to you any time. Happy editing! Best, Sam Sailor Sing 09:43, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

The stereotype of Americans

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereotypes_of_Americans

The stereotype of Americans, in Europe is that they cannot properly present them selves abroad. I am a European that lives in the United States, and Europeans told me in 1996 that Americans are idiots because they cannot properly present them selves abroad. I had Canadians telling me a European that they hate Americans because they cannot properly present them selves abroad.

As an American that has been to Europe and Canada, and having seen many Europeans and Canadians in the U.S. I will say this.

When I lived in Germany I would often avoid places where Americans hung out for that very reason, we can be very obnoxious and boorish, especially when in a group. The many times I've travelled to Canada I've never had a problem with Canadians, well mostly, there are always a few a holes on both sides of the border. Europeans I've met travelling in the U.S. seem to go out of their way to piss off Americans, a European in the U.S. is just as bad as an American in Europe. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.151.9.245 (talk) 18:53, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

If you want, please help me to get better. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by WDTTW (talkcontribs) 14:42, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

@WDTTW: I did not delete the article Man The Mighty as such, I tagged it for deletion under WP:CSD#A7 and an admin followed up and deleted it. (As I am not an admin I can no longer see the deleted article, but if memory serves the band was from Chicago, formed in 2006, had done 70 gigs in 2012 and was now working on getting their first album out in 2014.) You should really turn to the deleting admin and ask them to WP:USERFY it for you. That means undeleting it to your user space where you can work on it. Maybe we can get Bbb23 over here and reply? I would be surprised if they say no, but I also think you will get the sound advice to work on and submit the article to WP:AFC next time. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 15:08, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
Actually, I deleted it per A7 and G11. Everything else you say is correct, although I don't userfy articles unless the creator directly asks me to. You can use the male pronoun for me, although I'm not offended if someone calls me "she" or even "it"; it's better than some other things I've been called. :-) --Bbb23 (talk) 00:48, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

We know that:
  • a best-of compilation was aired on September 2, 2013
  • it has not aired since.
Both statements are facts. The first one ought to be cited.
The two things over which you and some IPs edit war are
  • did the September best-of compilation suggest the block's return with the fall schedule?
  • has the show been cancelled or not?
You could argue that both are valid assumptions, and as I said in my edit summary here "cancelled" is quite likely. After all we now have late November. But since you guys can't agree, I have put in a neutral wording that overcomes aspects of WP:SYNTH. If you can find some reliable sources to quote, let me know, and I'll help you if needed with putting them in the article. When I googled the matter I mostly found forum comments from people biggering about the show. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 07:39, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Latasha Harlins

you left me a message notifing me of a revert you made to my edit on Latasha Harlins. As I feel the edit improves the article, and indeed was already contained in the article before a recent removal by a first time editor., I would like your rationale for the removal. I will not reinsert content until I hear from you. 199.20.117.124 (talk) 20:24, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

@199.20.117.124: The addition of "unlawfully" to "shot and killed" is a pleonasm that (at first I thought) is unneccessary. Unless you think someone would feel that the store owner was in her good right to act as she did. And having read the article and seen the, may I be polite and say, peculiar comment from the judge "But was that reaction understandable? I think that it was." ... uhmm, picking up a gun and shooting a 15-year-old for petty theft and a slap in the face? ... I think a lot of us would say, that those are measures that do not match the offense. So if you feel a need to make a point here, by all means undo my edit. In fact I'll do it myself after posting this. I'd like to hear your motivation for the "unlawfully", it's always nice to become wiser. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 21:00, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
Simply saying 'shot and killed' doesn't say enough, homicides aren't always illegal, and I feel it's an important to mention in the lede that the shooting was criminal. I get your point that any objective person reading the entire article should realize that a crime was committed, but if you read the talk page there are several people who feel the shooting was justified. I wish I could come up with a single word to replace 'unlawfully shot and killed', but some might object to 'murdered' since the perp was convicted of manslaughter and I'm not sure if there is a verb form of that word. I am of course open to any suggestions. 199.20.117.121 (talk) 20:47, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

If you right click on Vithoba and open it in a new window ... in the section Etymology and other names you see that the first sentence is just a list of the synonyms. The rest of the section goes into some details regarding these different names. The last paragraph in the section touches upon the name Panduranga. And it says it means 'the white god' in Sanskrit. So if you want to add that Panduranga means White colored then it could be a more appropriate place to add it rather than in the section intro line. Don't you think so? I don't know Sanskrit, but I assume you do. Let's try to

ECU Pirates

Sam, The other day I edited the East Carolina Pirates football page to reflect that Jeff Compher is now the athletic director, as you can verify here on ECU's own website. I subsequently received a message from you informing me that you had reversed the change I made because "it did not appear to be constructive". As you van verify though numerous sources, such as the News & Observer website, former Athletic Director Terry Holland stepped down from his position in December 2102 and was replaced shortly thereafter by Jeff Compher. Hopefully with this additional information you can reconsider the change I made to the East Carolina Pirates football page. Thanks for your time. 96.231.141.54 (talk) 04:48, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

Hello, my friend. I'm a bit concerned about the mass removal. I did the same to that article years ago and then had second thoughts and restored it all. You've removed all of Japan and Pakistan and much more. I've been on the fence with such removals for ages, but am now leaning toward inclusion of non-blue links. I'm wondering how you decided which should stay and which should go? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:50, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

@Anna Frodesiak: Hi Anna, good to hear from you. I hope you survived the latest cyclones! It is fine with me that you voice your concern, and I will love to have your feedback on what you find is appropriate editing on a list like this. Where's the limit? I have had brief exchanges of opinions with a couple of more senior editors; none of them could point to a policy or guideline that clearly addresses the question. I posted on the Help desk regarding embedded lists. No responses so far. What are your own thoughts both regarding embedded and stand-alone lists? Do you know of a policy/guideline/talk page consensus that deals with the matter? Best, Sam Sailor Sing 00:01, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
Hello, my friend. The cyclones didn't do much damage over here. Thanks for asking.
People cite WP:NOTDIRECTORY but haven't read it. It says that List of paper mills if fundementally an okay type of list. It must contain a list of paper mills and generally no other items and no phone numbers, etc.
So, what list items are acceptable? I've been discussing this issue for years. To me, this makes the most sense:
Bluelinks obviously fine. Redlinks and blacklinks are the same because people just add the brackets willy nilly. The case for only bluelinks is countered with "Hey, blacklinks in List of USA paper mills will get articles fast if worthy so only bluelinks should be there." But, not so with Japan or Pakistan list articles. The items on those lists take longer to get articles. Booting them off the list means they're less likely to become articles. Their presence, whether black or red, encourages others to start the article.
So, do we need to vet? Sure, googling each item isn't very practical. If List of Hospitals in Notondamap has black or redlinked Notondamap Central Hospital, we leave it. If it has Sammy's Upstairs Clinic, it's probably safe to remove. We use discretion. With schools and hospitals, etc, we err on the side of inclusion. With companies, etc, we err on the side of exclusion.
Anyway, you may disgree with this, but that's where I'm at. Best wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:31, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
@Anna Frodesiak: First of all I demand the right to remain the last editor who refuses further discussion and reverts his own edit, should one of his edits be considered problematic by his fellow editor. I have reverted, here comes the discussion!
My edit summary in the more typical case where a single entity is added to a list normally reads Rm per [[WP:NLIST]]. Write the article on a given subject [[WP:WTAF|before]] adding a link to the article to list pages, disambiguation pages, or templates., and NLIST, that applies to lists in general, not only lists of people, does ask for every entry to have a reliable source. So much for the wikilayering. What about the common sense then? I'm about to say that in these matters I am very willing to disregard my own sense as long as what I hear from you based on your better experience with Wikipedia makes any sense. So, I buy into your argument that black/red-linked entries on lists encourage people to create articles. (Hey, I I actually wrote that before looking up WP:RED that says: Good red links help Wikipedia—they encourage new contributors in useful directions, and remind us that Wikipedia is far from finished., I'm beginning to get the hang of this!) But I do think you contradict yourself by on one hand suggesting the List of paper mills to be left as is, and on the other hand saying we err on the side of exclusion when it comes to companies. Or maybe you here think about companies that are more directly consumer oriented? Or those that often get added to List of companies of Whateverland?
(On a side note, my first non-saved edit to the list, which I aborted when I found out that certain black-linked companies, e.g. Sappi was bluelinked further up in the list, reduced Chine to one entry and Sweden, Finland and Germany considerable. I am only mentioning this so you don't get the idea that I should edit with any sorts of bias towards one country/part of the world.)
So much for stand alone-lists. Take a look at Previous revision of Holy Trinity Diocesan High School before another editor pruned it. Compare with current. I would have done more or less exactly what he did, had I had the experience-grown balls for it. Do you have any rule of thumb you could hand me? (Pun intended.)
Best, Sam Sailor Sing 02:10, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
First, my longer time at Wikipedia doesn't mean anything. Your judgement could easily be much better.
I'm not sure erring on the side of exclusion is contradictory. The mills list could have some items removed, but the whole Japan and Pakistan sections removal is a bit too cautious, I think.
So, even though WP:LISTCOMPANY says nonblue items should be referenced, nothing is carved in stone. Case-by-case, I think. Mills or automobile companies etc. are usually huge, and if only a few are listed for a whole country, there's a good chance they're notable. The same isn't true for items at List of travel agencies in XXXXX. I would be more inclined to remove some unsourced items there.
As for lists within articles, well, that's case-by-case. I think we should look at undue weight issues and relevance and content forking to figure those out.
Again, I may be way off in left field here. I've heard good arguments on all sides and I'm a lousy judge anyhow. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:18, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
I'm sure you're a good judge. Thanks for WP:LISTCOMPANY, if I ever read it, I forgot it. Interestingly it says a citation to an independent, reliable source should be provided to establish its membership in the list's group [if it does not have an article]. And then it may be included whether or not it meets the Wikipedia notability requirement, unless a given list specifically requires this. I assume that this translates to, that lists without a hidden note about restrictions, can have very many entries added then. As List of paper mills. I've added a few refs to it. Thanks for your help! Best, Sam Sailor Sing 03:34, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
Anna, I came across Khammam and deleted a bulleted list of street names. What, if anything, would you do in an article like this? Best, Sam Sailor Sing 22:09, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi Sam. I agree with your street name removal in this edit. Streets have to be pretty notable to have an article, so it's a safe bet to remove them.
I just converted all the external linked Engineering colleges in Khammam into redlinks with refs to the website homepage in this edit. (I have a macro that does it automatically if you are interested.) I tend to do this because it shows the red, encouraging article creation, can turn the odd one blue sometimes, and because it makes the list less of a Yellow Pages. If anyone complains that the ref is pointless, I can say that it proves the basic fact that the place exists in that city. Thoughts?
Here is some more cleanup. I tend to not be too thorough. User:Viriditas has me wondering if the missing spaces after punctuation is due to the devices people use and not just carelessness. Thoughts on that?
A case for the removal of the Function halls section could be made, but I didn't bother.
There are clues that some of this article was copy pasted. (Not much, but a bit.) If so, it's too deeply buried for me to be sure because I can't use the Wayback Machine. I just posted at Project India and asked. Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics#The Mystery of the Missing Spaces
Hmmmmm, okay, that's it, I think. Best wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:00, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi Anna. I agree with you on the external links as refs proving the existence and the assumption that the resulting red links might spur someone to write a stub. I would love to have the macro or script you ran in that edit. Is that done in browser or in an external ASCII editor?

My own experience with rare use of iPad on Wikipedia is, that it can be tricky to get things right. For the same reason when I patrol I always apply extra good faith for edits with the Mobile device tag. Punctuation. MOS. It's all about conventions, knowing them and sticking to them, isn't it? More mature users will make two spaces after period, that's what they were taught when learning to type on a mechanical typewriter. Will the younger users sometimes forget the space after period because the 160 char limit in SMS text messages have "taught" them to disregard the rule? I have sometimes asked myself if some editors who natively use scripts without distinction between upper and lower case therefore make capitalisation errors when writing in English? My personal equivalent would be German: mine is very rusty. I have to think twice to remember to cap nouns. Or another personal example: my keyboard has only a hyphen. I always have to look up MOS:DASH and doubt I will ever learn and remember it.

The section Function halls is one of those I would say should go. I looked up four randomly chosen and would be surprised if individual articles were to meet GNG. How it was placed under the level two section heading Educational institutions beats me. I will try to read WP:INCITIES and put sections into order accordingly.

Is the Wayback archive blocked for you guys? Do you want me to look up something? Best, Sam Sailor Sing 16:14, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

I use EditPad. It's free and has really easy macros. See User:Anna Frodesiak/EditPad
So are you saying that most of these missing spaces are due to mobile devices? If they're simply because people forget or neglect, then I find that unacceptable. We're not talking about something minor here. The convention (every single thing they've ever read in English) is plain to see. These errors are a blight.
The double space after a full stop does nothing when the page is saved. It seems that the software just removes the appearance of it. See before during after
Sure, let's zap function halls. They're probably all just a room in a hotel anyhow.
Thanks for the Wayback offer. :)

Disambiguation link notification for December 8

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of paper mills, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Rauma (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Artist vs EP prods

I don't usually restore prods, and I understand why you reverted the prod on the two EPs by the band, but

  1. just because the article was de-proded doesn't mean that these will be and,
  2. having no links helps support that the band is not notable.

If you still want to de-prod, I won't restore the prod. Walter Görlitz (talk) 04:41, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

what vandalism are you talking about?

I dont know what you are referrng to on the last message on my talk page. If you are referring to his birthdate I corrected it to represent reality. If the media cant even get his birthdate right those sources should be eliminated. His birthdate is not a secret and in the interest of truth I posted the right date. Why would you object to the truth?

ALSO please show me the WIKI policies that state contributors must contribute to more than one article.

Quite ironic that YOU accused me of controlling the article when it appears you are pulling all the strings.MrTownCar (talk) 11:57, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

The last two words in my message[Diff] on your talk page reads "This diff". Clicking on that will bring up the relevant diff. That's what I am talking about.
Any material added to Wikipedia must have been published previously by a reliable source. Editors may not add or delete content solely because they believe it is true.
I am not aware of a policy that says editors must contribute to more than one article, but you could post at WP:HD about it.
"Quite ironic that YOU accused me of controlling the article when it appears you are pulling all the strings."
I do not recall having accused you of controlling the article. Please provide a diff showing I have done so. Judging by your closing figure of speech you seem to imply that I should be in some way controlling the article, e.g. by puppetry. I begrudge such unfounded accusation, which likewise is not supported by diffs. I also notice that you have done something similar towards Ukexpat.User talk:MrTownCar#Puppet accusations Please substantiate your accusation either here in dialogue with me, or in an ANI filing regarding my behavior, or recant what you wrote.

Your reply does not give the faintest little support to your accusations above. Sam Sailor Sing 23:23, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
you are right and I am wrong. I misunderstood your comment on Nov 3 or 4 on your talk page about projecting ownership of the article on someone else, the word controlling was never used.....MrTownCar (talk) 01:05, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

JMS enlighten me please

Can you divulge what physical evidence was used to convict Jung Myung Seok? and site me the source that divulged that evidence.MrTownCar (talk) 00:01, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

Going down that road with a person who openly declares his admiration for a serial rapist, who admits being part of the organization which solicited females for the same criminal, and who denies his conviction in the courts of law as quote "a sham trial", that would be a journey on which I intend to waste no time. And the same goes for any other frivolity you may cook up in the future. Sam Sailor Sing 00:13, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

the fact that you refuse to discuss the basis for your opinion is quite revealing....thanks for the enlightening point of view. no good faith on your part.  :( MrTownCar (talk) 01:08, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

Talkpage template

Why would you add talkpage templates to your userpage and cause an error category in the process? Debresser (talk) 20:59, 21 December 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The inclusion of {{check talk}} in other templates triggers the error cat also when displayed with {{Tbullet}}. Best, Sam Sailor Sing 07:25, 26 December 2013 (UTC)

i asked for help

Hello. I asked for help. You replied and I feel were not helpful at all. You took away the help request and then locked my talk page. Did you even read what I wrote? Had you you would have seen the things I asked. I was block, the block up for discussion, but I was not allowed to participate. I am discussion an edit but my discussion of it was repeatedly censored. If you are not able to answer, fine. Do not take down the help request and prevetn others from offering help. 173.66.63.102 (talk) 03:40, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

  • @173.66.63.102: Yes, I read what you wrote. Including your deletions from User talk:173.66.63.102. Many editors have tried to give you advice, but from what I can tell you refuse to accept anything but your own opinion. Wikipedia is full of people who are clever and kind and helpful. Embrace them, and you can become a part of a unique project. Sam Sailor Talk! 03:59, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Request on 05:04:50, 3 December 2015 for assistance on AfC submission by Sydburger

i started an article about a lecturer - Klikauer. i also got a photo from / of him; however, the pic was rejected citing copyright issues. my Q: i had the copyright from the photographer, how do i prove this? thank you!

Sydburger (talk) 05:04, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

dear Sam i finally got around to edit the Klikauer page i had started in Sept. (see link at end of my message) thank you for your critique. i believe i addressed your points. i have also filled in the form regarding the copyright of the photo - i think i had not even seen it first time round. kind regards Ralf (sydburger) https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UserLogout&returnto=Draft%3AThomas+Klikauer Sydburger (talk) 05:36, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

  • As SwisterTwister said in his review, the article on Klikauer is not sourced to a degree that he meets the so-called professor test. The detailed comments on each and every of Klikauer's seven books without any secondary sources leaves the reader with an impression of a soapbox. Sam Sailor Talk! 12:00, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Review draft?

Hi Sam,

You've reviewed articles I've submitted in the past, like the one for Luminoso created by User: Edsussman, an alternate account.

I've just done a new draft for the article AlienVault which is currently just a stub and also has two flags that seem justified. Here's my new draft: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:BC1278/subpage2

I think it's very significantly improved -- I've tried my best to abide by all Wikipedia policies, e.g. reliable sources,, neutral language, verifiability, et.. But I have a COI here, so can't make direct edits as per WP:COI I wonder if you would review it and make live any changes you think are worthwhile?

It's an interesting and important company -- they run the largest open source project for tracking computer threats (viruses, malware, etc.) and they've raised $116 million.

Best,

EdBC1278 (talk) 21:27, 2 December 2015 (UTC)BC1278

@BC1278: Hi Ed. Thanks for your confidence. I'll pass on this one. I suppose you are already aware of WP:COIREQ, right? Sam Sailor Talk! 22:14, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
Unfortunately, the request edit board has completely broken down. There are requests for edits still pending from May and June of last year. This is actually really bad news for those trying to make the new COI disclosure and direct editing policies work. It's nearly impossible to convince a company that has a valid edit to wait six months for a review when one of their employees can make the change from home the same day. In short, lots of editors love searching for editors who violate COI rules; almost none will regularly work with COI editors who follow the rules (e.g. by keeping the request edit board as active as AfC board). If admins and editors who police COI recognized the latter as a serious problem, undisclosed direct edit COI issues would dramatically decline. Since WP:COI lists other options for finding an interested editor to do a review, such as going to related Wikipedia articles to find editors, that's the only practical way to live within the rules.BC1278 (talk) 16:28, 3 December 2015 (UTC)BC1278
