Stub enthusiasm

Greetings! I noticed your progress in creating stub templates, and I see that you've figured out some of the pitfalls of the process thereof. You seem to have good intentions and I would encourage you to check in with the stub sorting project when convenient. There you'll find guidelines on how to format the parts of a stub template and what to do with categories, for example:

  • Established abbreviations for countries, e.g. "UK" for the United Kingdom, "US" (not USA) for the United States.
  • The practice known as "upmerging" and the reasons for it, usually because the criteria for a stub category is to have at least 60 articles that would fill the category
  • How to add categories that exist, rather than leaving redlinked categories on a stub template.

These and other stub-related goodies are available at the link given above! Come by any time. Cheers, Her Pegship (talk) 22:20, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

@Pegship:, thank you for letting me know! For the next templates I will exclude the red links categories. I started creating over 2500 international weightlifters. So at the moment there are not yet that many in the created stub-templates as I just started, but many will follow! Thanks, Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 10:55, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

10,000 Challenge

Hi. If you could somehow flesh out as many of those footballer stubs as you can they can join the main list and be counted!♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:04, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld:, ah, great! However I created all the international Wales players. I found data of international weightlifters so started creating all of the about 2500 weightlifters at the past 20 World Championships. I will list the British and Irish people to the list! And let me know if you know a good list of British/Irish sportspeople :) Thanks for coming by, Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 10:51, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Only today and tomorrow left on Wikipedia:WikiProject England/The West Country Challenge. We need 42 articles to pass 500. If you feel like fleshing out a few articles/ref fixing/cleanup of some articles that would be very welcome!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:31, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: sorry, but I have to say I don't have time these days to create some of the West Country articles. Will pop-in next time again :). After a quick search I saw many British/Irish Women's football players missing. And also women's Basketball players to be created :). Will create them during a new challenge! September 2016

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Francois Etoundi a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Dl2000 (talk) 00:27, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

@Dl2000:, Hi, sorry I already undid your reversion. As there were two articles about the same person I merged the two articles into one. As you will see it is not a copy paste as info fro the two pages are merged together. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 07:43, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
There was only one article on this person until you created an unnecessary copy of François Etoundi yesterday without explanation. Francois Etoundi had existed since 2014 and if necessary should have been moved to François Etoundi instead. However, there should be justification provided for changes in title, based on guidelines such as WP:NCP. Your actions did in fact constitute an improper copy-paste move for the reasons indicated above. Dl2000 (talk) 23:29, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
@Dl2000:, yes I see what you mean. So it should be reverted and a move be requested? Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 07:45, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
Move request is in progress - this can be followed on Talk:Francois Etoundi and should soon be listed at WP:RM (requested moves noticeboard). Dl2000 (talk) 20:59, 10 September 2016 (UTC)
@Dl2000:, Yes I saw it on my watchlist. However, when you reverted everyting again, you forgot to change the whole article (because it was not a cut-and-paste move but a merge). So I added the info for the third time now. What a hassle! Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 21:10, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

Agree. I'd hate to add the comment of "WP:ITSUSEFUL" at the AfD, but they are! Obviously if you can add more sources when they're created, it may reduce the need for someone to drag them to AfD. Great work - keep it up. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 07:41, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Bosnia and Herzegovina national sitting volleyball team players

Hi, thanks for creating the lot of Bosnia and Herzegovina national sitting volleyball team players profile pages (like Safet Alibašić the one you created, and others). Creation of articles of weightlifter personalities!!!!

Of late you have been creating a hoard of articles on weightlifters-who all share a common point-"participation in the 1999 world championships".You seem to provide very less data except that one particular info. Thus it would be kind of you to explain whether simple participation in a world championship suffices an encycloepadic entry for any person !!!!!Aru@baska❯❯❯ Vanguard 12:08, 2 October 2016 (UTC)

@ARUNEEK:, thanks for coming bye. I'm creating WP:Stubs, and indeed at the moment the weightlifters at the 1999 World Championships. By definition a stub is an article deemed too short to provide encyclopedic coverage of a subject. However they are valueble because the person can be found and something can be written about the person easily without going to the hassle of creating a new page. Note that I have created in the last year over 10,000 of these kind of pages. Some of which I don't have more info are only about the 1999 world championships. Others are longer, see for instance some I created this hour: Khodor Alaywan, Alexi Batista, Aleksandrs Žerebkovs, Kuanysh Rymkulov, Sergio Lafuente. For a good discussion about notability see: WP talk:Nsports#weightlifting. Cheers Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 12:25, 2 October 2016 (UTC)

Hey. I've been adding wikiproject boxes to your talk pages for the new articles you've been making for female weightlifters. Your contributed article, Tayler Sanders

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Tayler Sanders. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Tyler Sanders. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Tyler Sanders – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Theo649 (talk) 19:27, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

You put the category on the main space of new articles, please could you also back that up with minimally WP Biography|living=yes on the talk page at least, thanks JarrahTree 15:01, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Please note that in the past WP:BLP has been a serious issue, and any help in adding the requisite items is always appreciated JarrahTree 01:25, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

@JarrahTree:, it takes for me the same time to make the talk page then to make the page itself. The talk page is tagged automatically by a bot within a few days. With my limited WP time I prefer to create another page instead of adding tag on the talk page within the same time frame. If it's a serious issue, a boy could be created for it to do it :) Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 09:07, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Faitoga Togagae

Hello Sander.v.Ginkel,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Faitoga Togagae for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. Take a look at our suggestions for essential content in short articles to learn what should be included.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Xx236 (talk) 13:14, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

@Hmlarson:, thanks a lot for this!! I saw the women's football players are under represented on Wikipedia. I started with the players at the world championships. But also the players who competed at other major international competitions are notable. So, it's just the beginning and will create many many more! Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 07:53, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

You are awesome. Thanks very much. Hmlarson (talk) 15:37, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

Lucie Záleská v. Lucie Hochmann

Two of yours; Lucie Záleská v. Lucie Hochmann ... same person? Fancy merging them? thanks

Also - have not checked if they're yours, but probably... Elizabeth Newell versus Elizabeth Hernandez (cyclist).

Finally Marta Pavlisová versus Marta Kroutilová. If you fancy doing anything with these three pairs, that'd be great. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) 18:35, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

@Tagishsimon:, Great you spot them! I created 3 of the 4 cycling articles and merged them now. I didn't create the canoeists but will take a look at it tomorrow!! Please tell me if you find more :). Cheers and great work, Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 22:12, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
And good work yourself, SvG. Your duplicate rate is remarkably low considering the vast number of articles you create. They seem to end up at the bottom of the bucket of my work; I'll pass them to you as & when. I have one more dupe for your consideration (and forgive me for dumping them on you): Haïdy Aron v. Haydy Aron. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) 22:18, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
@Tagishsimon: according to their names and the Spanish Wikipedia the canoeists are the same, so I merged them. But that means she became World Champion at the age of 13. Is that strange? And according to the Spanish page she would have medalled at European Championships at the age of 8. Is that possible? Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 13:55, 24 October 2016 (UTC)
That sounds a little, how shall we say, precocious. I presume we're looking at a DoB failure somewhere along the line, or maybe a mother-daugher thing. I'll do some digging.... this suggests a DoB of 1914. --Tagishsimon (talk) 15:18, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

Indefinite article (again)

G'day again, I have just fixed a few instances of "a Australian" in articles recently-created by your good self. Cheers YSSYguy (talk) 02:04, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

@YSSYguy:, Thanks! I saw there was an error in the template I was using. It is fixed now :) Cheers, Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 15:51, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

Better research

Hi! You added a small batch of Norwegian female footballers. Perhaps you should not have claimed that these players still play football, seeing as they are verging on age 40. Geschichte (talk) 18:17, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

40 is the new 32 (see Christie Rampone). Keep up the great work. Hmlarson (talk) 23:57, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
What about 50? Your templated articles are not unwarranted, Ginkel, but include preposterous claims. If you do not reply or change your editing, a short-term block would be in order. Geschichte (talk) 13:21, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
I'd be more inclined to short-term block someone who wanders around issuing short-term block ultimata. The sentences would be better in the past tense, but given the choice between an complete absence and a minor issue, I'll take SvG's article anytime. --Tagishsimon (talk) 14:13, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
@Geschichte:, sorry I totally missed your message. I just see it now. I fixed it in my template so it won't happen again :), Cheers, Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 15:50, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Another, much more serious, issue is that a whole lot (more than 20 at least, probably closer to 30) of these BLP articles have no references at all that actually mention the people the articles are about. Practically speaking, they're unreferenced BLPs. Claiming that 65-year-old people are active footballers is a smaller issue that is fairly easily fixed. Manxruler (talk) 00:49, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

Cricketers and actresses

Thanks for starting this list. Browsing through the template at the foot of the article, I noticed the actressess list. I'm going to make a note of that and start work on that one. Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 19:56, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

That would be greatly appreciated, Lugnuts. At the last count there were 34,585 actress records on wikidata for which we have no wikipedia biography. I'm kinda hoping that SvG will run short of sportspeople soon and turn his cannons on these :). --Tagishsimon (talk) 20:31, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
@Tagishsimon: No problem. I was just having a quick browse of the missing women articles last night and was quite surprised to see how much is actually missing. There's def. a couple of areas that interest me, and I'll chip away at the red. Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 06:42, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
Sander - I trust my edit summary for Kazimiera Utrata meets with the project's approval. Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 11:45, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
@Lugnuts: great work on the acressess and cricketers!! And yes, the edit summary looks good! Hopefully it will stimulate some people :). @Tagishsimon: I have to say, that there are so many missing sportspersons.. With data I have at the moment I won't be finished within the first few years.. Haha. Keep up the good work! Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 07:27, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer granted

Hello Sander.v.Ginkel. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria.

  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator.

information Administrator note You have been grandfathered to this group based on prior patrolling activity - the technical flag for the group will be added to your account after the next software update. You do not need to apply at WP:PERM. 20:56, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Sam Henderson (weightlifter)

The article Sam Henderson (weightlifter) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Subject appears to fail guidelines for biographical articles, specifically WP:BASIC and WP:ATH. Although a Google search did yield some references to the subject, they did not meet the standard for in depth coverage by multiple independent reliable sources. Found coverage appears to be far to brief and in some cases trivial to establish the encyclopedic notability of the subject. That said I have added this to my watch list as it is entirely possible that Mr. Henderson may at some point rise to that level.

The article creator is encouraged to peruse the linked guidelines and if additional sources exist that may lend themselves to establishing encyclopedic notability, please add them.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Women's football articles - question

Hi Sander.v.Ginkel. Thanks again for your work in generating stub articles on women's footballers. Do you know of a way to automate tagging their talk pages with the Women's football taskforce? e.g., {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes|class=stub}} Hmlarson (talk) 04:59, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

Just a minor thingy...

Could you please change the name of the source ""2016–17 UCI Track Cycling World Cup (Glasgow) Enty List Men" and ""2016–17 UCI Track Cycling World Cup (Glasgow) Enty List Women"? Enty should be Entry. By the way, that source does not cover the type of race... The Banner talk 19:17, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

@The Banner:, oww, yes, that's a typo. All 16 pages fixed now. The page is the entry list of that World Cup round. What is different from the other source is that it lists the date of birth of the person. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 19:25, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

Courtesy blanking

Please do not remove courtesy blanking from AFDs. It is only done when there are good reasons to do so, which may not be apparent to you from on-wiki discussions. Thanks. P.S. Your userpage looks like a WP:FAKEARTICLE. Could you please remove the lenghty content about your academic background per WP:USERBIO. SmartSE (talk) 13:29, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

@Smartse: But as is sould rare courtesy from Afds? In a list with the 3rd nominations the blanking was done without a reason >50% of the articles. While there are specific rules for, I removed some without a proper request. Why chaning my userpage? It is not a Wikipedia page, it's a userpage. Are there rules for? You can order my book if you want and you can all read about it The effect of exercise and ACE inhitibion on angiotensin II. PhD Thesis. May 2015 (UK edition) & April 2016 (NL edition). Literraly all the information of the Wikipedia page is pulished in it. It's even stated above the page This page is the user page of Sander van Ginkel and includes his short biography that is published in his PhD thesis named The effect of exercise and ACE inhibition on angiotensin II. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 14:03, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
I'm sorry but I can't understand your first question. If someone thought it necessary to blank an AFD it would have been for good reason and if you disagree, the first thing to do would be to ask the person who blanked it why they did it.
I'm aware that you userpage is not an article but it is styled in exactly the same way e.g. using {{infobox scientist}} which can lead to confusion and appears promotional. See WP:USERPAGE for the policy on what should and shouldn't be included on a userpage. Most simply, it is to write about yourself as a user here, not you as a person in the real world and at present it contains "excessive personal information unrelated to Wikipedia.". Whether it has been published in a book is immaterial. Can you please remove it? SmartSE (talk) 17:17, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
For the confusing I placed the banner on top of the page. I don't see that it is not allowed to use the infobox scientist. And I think the Information is not excessive, it is a short summary. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 08:37, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review - newsletter

Hello Sander.v.Ginkel,
Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 818 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

Why did you not go to Apeldoorn? --Nicola (talk) 23:27, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
@Nicola:Yes sorry.. I really wanted to go, but I didn't have time to go last weekend. A shame.. But I saw it all in Rio at the Olympics :). I just started creating pages of the medalists of the World Cup. However, every participant meets WP:NCYC, so if you want an article by certain images, let me know! Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 23:45, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
@Nicola:, I just started eight pages with your images :). Louis Pijourlet, Adrien Garel, Gerben Thijssen, Bayley Simpson, Mark Downey, Sultanmurat Miraliyev, Han Jun and Liu Lili. Good night, Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 00:08, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
Hi, I just saw that you added "Liu Xialing" to one photo, because there were 3 chinese females starting in Apeldoorn. But: I have at least photos of FOUR Chinese females there. It seems that they took some riders from Glasgow to there, but they did not start. May be there is also one more, and may be it is Ma Menglu. Anyway, "Liu Xiaoling" has dots in here face and she cannot be the more pretty one... I am still researching, but it is not easy.... --Nicola (talk) 07:59, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
@Nicola: I thought that the entry list was always longer then the actual participants. Well as you showed.. It's not! Thanks for noticing :). And a question to you, a few months ago I uploaded some images of some Iranian cyclists. Do you maybe know some of them? See Commons:Category:2014 Iran national track cycling championships. Thanks, Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 11:33, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
Well, I noticed in Apeldoorn that there were always a lot of riders hanging around in the box but did not seem to be participating :) And it was obvious they were bored. I already thought then that may be they were not allowed to stay in the hotel on their own? I do not know any Iranians, but will have a look. --Nicola (talk) 11:44, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Womens footballer from China; Asian Month Suggestion

Hi, since Wikipedia talk:Wikipedia Asian Month is semi-protected now, I post the following; you requested to put Asian characters romanized, and here they are. I'm not a native Chinese, but since Japanese share the same writing system (but we use traditional Chinese characters), I thought I could give you a hand.

It seems zh:中国国家女子足球队#中國女足23人名单: includes good number of those which I marked with $s.
I referred to that and found the traditional Chinese for a name. Copy/paste a name into the box and clicked the farthest left button under the box. Sometimes your search on the web hits the target since Taiwanese media (at times HongKong, too) uses traditional Chinese characters.

BTW, would you mind to test Google translate or Wikipedia translation, by copy/paste a name and see what they give output? Most of the following, I used Google translate; by copy/paste names into the left box (Google translate), it shows below the box in gray the pronunciation. Hope those below will help you.

China

Nation / Name / simplified character = romanized / traditional character / $ (zh:中国国家女子足球队#中國女足23人名单:)

  • China - 张越 = Zhāng Yuè 張越 $
  • China - 王飞 = Wáng Fēi 王飛 $
  • China - 王诗朦 = Wáng Shīméng 王詩朦

Template:Women in Red

I undid your change. I can't find it in me to like the parentheses around sprinters, and around the whole list, in your version. The logic of the existing version was to start with Sportswomen, as a kind of list header which coincidently is a list name, and then show all of the sports in alpha order. With no parentheses, and certainly not with two levels of nested parentheses. "All are sportswomen and Sprinters are Athletes" may well be the case, but "you've made the list ugly for no tangible gain" is as easy to argue :) --Tagishsimon (talk) 06:10, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Fram

As Fram (talk · contribs) is screening my edit history and post every he don't like, I made a seperate page. See User talk:Sander.v.Ginkel/Fram. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 10:56, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Which is your right. Hiding the notice that you posted a copyright violation on another page without bothering to reply doesn't make the problem go away of course. Edit warring to include wrong information on pages, or to reinstate posts by banned editors on my talk page, also isn't solved this way. Again, this isn't about "things I don't like", but about "things you are not allowed to do on Wikipedia". Fram (talk) 12:54, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
I'll second this. I've read all that Fram has had to say to you and it has all been important advice. WP:BLP and WP:V aren't optional and the edit warring on Fram's talk page was vindicative and childish. Fram has taken the time to point out the problems with your edits and the sensible and mature thing would be to follow the advice and modify your editing, not have a tantrum and move the advice to a subpage. SmartSE (talk) 13:07, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
@Smartse: if you would have read everything, you would have seen I've improved a lot, including the points Fram was raising. Tell me what I should do more. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 13:15, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
I was referring to your attitude towards Fram's advice rather than whether you had followed it or not. Until know I hadn't inspected many articles you had created myself, but looking at Sherly Jeudy which you created today I see exactly the same problems: no source for the date of birth, that she is a midfielder or that she plays for FC Indiana. Benedicte Hubbel also has the same problems (other than her position is cited). The solution is simple - cite where you obtained the information if it is a reliable source or else do not include it. I find the unsourced dates of birth particularly troublesome as this can have real world consequences. SmartSE (talk) 13:34, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
E.g. Sarah Melgire, which you created today. The date of birth (1 March 1995) is not sourced. Soccerway[4] gives it as 20 August 1991. The date in your article may be right anyway, I don't know, but as it stands you added an unsourced, probably incorrect date of birth. Fram (talk) 14:13, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
Might be another persons, or an error somewhere. See for instance here with 1 March 1995. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 14:27, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
Another Sarah Melgire who played in the 2014 national team matches? Seems rather unlikely. Soccerdonna, certainly on that page, comes across as much less reliable, as it has no info on Melgire's career whatsoever. Anyway, it's these kind of things that make it necessary that you include a source from the start, so people at least can see where you got the date. Otherwise, in the event that someone checks the date, they will simply replace your unsourced date with the different soccerway date instead of showing the discrepancy between the sources. Fram (talk) 14:39, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Sherly Jeudy, already mentioned above: this one seems to have the wrong (or at least a dubious) date of birth as well. Fram (talk) 14:47, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

And Schmid Charles. That's 3 out of your last 6 article creations. Fram (talk) 14:51, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

The data came from women's national football team, but gives now an 404 error, so I couldn't use it in the article. You can still view it at some cache websites, including showing the club teams. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 14:55, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
I hope you haven't been using that source for ages and countless articles, but only just now! Revolvy is a Wikipedia mirror, so the dates of birth you found there are the dates of birth from the Martinique women's national football team article here. Revolvy is not a reliable source and should never be used on Wikipedia. Fram (talk) 15:06, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
I have data exported from that website (in January 2015), I didn't notice it was a mirror website. I see I have used info from that website for 5 pages I created, all today. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 15:21, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi, can you put entries you start up on the various Template:The 100,000 Challenge pages? Perhaps do them in batches if easier!♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:01, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: Oww.. yes, that's a bit difficult. I mostly created bunch of articles by sport and not by location. I was willing to get all the African weightlifters I created, but it was such a difficult task. I had to go through them one-by-one. So sorry, I have to say that I'm not able to do it.. Possible help?

I read a posting between you and Ipigott on WiR about Estonians and am hoping one of you can help. Megalibrarygirl and I have an aviator, who did several firsts, but I can't figure out what her name should be in English. Some sources say she is Estonian, others Russian, and one says Latvian. Yes, I get that Estonia (and Latvia) was part of Russia at various times, but I don't know what to call her or how to spell her name. If she is Estonian, seems likely it would be Ljuba rather than the Russian Lyubov, but given how she wrote her last name, I tend to think we should disregard other spellings and go with what she wrote. Or am I crazy?

  • Ljuba Galantchikov Estonian? [5]
  • Lyubov Golanchikova Russian? [6]
  • Lyubov Golanchikova Russian? [7] page 27
  • Lioubov Golantchikova Russian? [8]
  • L. Galanschikoff looks to be her signature here: [9] close up: [10]
  • Ljuba Galanschikoff [11]
  • Luba Galanschikoff Russian [12]
  • Lioubov Galantchikova, Latvian [htp://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/1913-photo-ljuba-galanschikoff-female-pilot]

Russian Wiki just says Russian empire. [13] The French article uses a Russo-French spelling. Help would be greatly appreciated. User:SusunW (talk) 02:23, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

@SusunW:, Hi and thanks for coming bye and raising the issue. I'm not an expert on Russian language but I had several times the same problem. Translating names in Russian to the Latin script can be done in several ways. Where in English is written a 'v' can also be written a 'w' like the Polish Wikipedia does. She might even have written it herself in more then one way... If you end up with a few names you can start the article with
Name also written as Name2, Name3 and Name4 was a Russian born(?) Estonian aviator.

(Or something like this). To make it even a bit more confusing, during the Cold War Russia was the Soviet Union. Maybe people at Wikipedia:WikiProject Russia can help you better? Thanks, Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 08:49, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

@SusunW and Megalibrarygirl: Transliteration from Russian is always a problem as there are different systems for equivalents in the various European languages, generally based on pronounciation. For example Putin becomes Poutine in French. Family names ending in -ov sometimes remain invariable for women in English, especially for immigrants and children of immigrants born abroad, but generally become -ova for women. In this case, I would not include the Dutch or Latvian spellings. I would go for Lyubov Golanchikova as she was in fact born in St Petersburg although she flew in Riga. I think you may have misinterpreted the handwritten signature. It looks to me like Galantchikoff but that is no doubt the Latvian (or even German) phonetic equivalent of her name. The ending -off for Russian names is not common in English. (See here for modern transliteration conventions.) So why not go for Lyubov Golanchikova, also Ljuba Galantchikoff,... and include other variants as redirects if you wish. Wikidata already has Lyubov Golanchikova for English. I also see she emigrated to USA and was a taxi driver in New York City (where she died) which means there must be an official American spelling of her name. I'm pretty sure it's Lyubov Golanchikova. A fuller form seems to be Lyubov A. Golanchikova (The "A" stands for the patronym Alexandrovna which is used in Russian but not in English.) I'm sure your research has also revealed that as a teenager she was a Vaudeville singer and actress using the name Molly Moore (Russian Мили Море or Молли Мор). Hope this helps. I look forward to seeing the article and perhaps contributing a bit to it myself.--Ipigott (talk) 11:12, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
@Sander.v.Ginkel and Ipigott: I found a ton of newspaper articles about her in the US press — Luba Phillips. LOL Those that give her maiden name call her Galanschikoff or Galanchikoff. [14], [15], [16], [17] Obviously, I have enough stuff to write about her, if I could just decide what to call the article. I agree she was born in St. Petersburg and may well have been of Estonian or Latvian heritage, but I think we have no real proof of that. So, I shall do it with the Russian spelling. And yes, I would love your help Ian. No possible way I could read other than her name in that Dutch newspaper article and I am sure you have access to sources I don't. Megalibrarygirl, in the timeline, I'm gonna make it Lyubov Golanchikova. SusunW (talk) 14:06, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
@SusunW: (Sorry for taking so much space on your page, SvG.) So after all that, she just ended up as plain Luba Phillips on her air club card or even L. Phillips on her taxi badge. But it should probably have been L. Phillipoff as her husband was Boris Phillipoff (but his name was probably changed to Phillips on Staten Island). Lots of interesting detail in the article on "The Flying Ballerina". Interesting too that she was a ballet dancer, not a Vaudeville singer. See also [18]. Also some interesting details here including her working in a beauty parlour. Quite an exotic woman!--Ipigott (talk) 14:52, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
This Russian article clearly identifies her as a popular singer in Petersburg rather than a ballet dancer.--Ipigott (talk) 15:09, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
Ipigott I have started her here. User:SusunW/Lyubov Golanchikova Please feel free to jump in. I too apologize for taking up so much space on your page SvG but do appreciate the help. She is fascinating. SusunW (talk) 15:46, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
SusunW Yes, really fascinating. I'll wait until you're in bed and return to it tomorrow morning my time.--Ipigott (talk) 17:09, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
@SusunW: and @Ipigott: no problem at all! I just love these kind of conversations :). I would just say ask more, whatever you want :) Article is becoming great! Started reading of it. And yes, we do need more of these women on Wikipedia. Cheers, Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 23:13, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

Team templates

You are creating many cycling team templates, and many get nominated for deletion. You give as reasons "minimize storage space", which is not a valid reason (WMF policy is that we shouldn't worry about storage at all and that that shouldn't come into play when editing) and minimize maintenance. As has been said at the deletion discussions, how much maintenance do 2010 squads need? You say "collect source text used in several articles", but as far as I can see, these are only used on one page (e.g. List of 2010 UCI Women's Teams and riders), so you don't decrease maintenance or storage space and don't really collect anything, you just remove information from the article directly and put it into a template, making it harder for non-veteran editors to edit when needed (which like I said won't be often if ever). I see no benefit at the moment from all these templates. A disadvantage though is that a page like List of 2010 UCI Women's Teams and riders now has many more "edit" links and many unecessary and distracting "view" links inserted into it (and a needless repetition of things like "ages as of January 2010, which you could otherwise have stated only once).

Another disadvantage, as can be seen in that article, is that at the mopment you have the same link to [19] with one description on 21 templates, and another description on 5 other templates. If the squads had been on the page instead of on a template, you would have had one named reference. Now you have to edit either 5 or 21 templates to give them all the same description, which means that your efforts have actually increased the maintenance needed, not decreased.

Please stop creating further such templates until it has been established that they really are beneficial. Fram (talk) 12:29, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

I'm still working on the templates. And well these kinds of templates are not new at all. List of 2011 UCI Women's Teams and riders

You have now undone improvements to List of 2011 UCI Women's Teams and riders twice times, each time reintroducing factual errors to the page. No matter if these templates are kept or not, no one is under any obligation to use them. Reverting to an inferior version because it is your version is WP:OWNing a page, which is not allowed. Stop. Fram (talk) 05:38, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Reverting because there is not yet a consensus. In your opinion it's an improvement. Like I stated on your talk page, it's common to wait to start such an edit before a consensus is reached. As an administrator you should know better. Factual errors, you mean probably the tiny errors that have already been fixed? Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 08:14, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
When I reverted this morning, there were still "tiny" errors in it. When I state that you are "reintroducing factual errors", I don't mean things that you have fixed, but things you haven't fixed, obviously. And again, the consensus at the template discussions can force us to use my solution, but it can never force us not to use my solution. If the templates are kept, anyone can and may still substitute them in the articles and edit like I did. Fram (talk) 08:25, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
I'm happy I could have learned you, by showing it, what LST is. Probably you understand it now better :) Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 09:04, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Why are you reintroducing some templates in the article? I get the edits you made for LST, I get why the one template up for deletion is readded, but this seems pointless reverting for no actual benefit at all. Fram (talk) 09:36, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
The templates are used in several pages. When you copied content from the templates to the page, you didn't copy all the information and better references. As it took too much time to check them all I started linking them back to the templates so LST can be carried out with just a few clicks when I've done so. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 09:47, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
???Which information or reference was lost from e.g. Lotto-Honda Team? You changed the access date, that's it. Fram (talk) 09:56, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Maybe not from that one, but from other I did before I had to put the information back manualy. As I didn't want to do that for all the others, I started doing it this way. (This was also why I asked you several times not to do copy and paste the content.). Will link this first bunch with LST. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 10:08, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
I did not copy-paste any content, I substituted the template, which means that everything gets included automatically. So, please indicate on which ones I hadn't copied all the information? Fram (talk) 10:10, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Comparing my last version with your current version[20], it turns out that, as I expected, your claim that "important info was not copied", "you didn't copy all the information", "I had to put the information back manualy" was all a load of crap. On the contrary, you introduced a link to the 2012 Dolmans team on this 2011 teams page. Good grief... Fram (talk) 10:16, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Well the first templated did. For instance from Template:DLT2011riders: That the content is As of 1 January 2011 and the reference <ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.cyclingarchives.com/ploegfiche.php?id=16644|title=Dolmans - Boels Cycling Team 2011|accessdate=15 February 2013|work=cyclingarchives.com}}</ref> and from Template:TCW2011riders the reference: Source<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.cyclingarchives.com/ploegfiche.php?id=16444|title=2011 Roster|accessdate=15 February 2013|work=cyclingarchives.com}}</ref>. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 10:19, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
@Fram:,this is realy rude! You can't talk to someone like this in a conversation. I point out some things that you did do not correct. You shouldn't start talking like that what I say is a load of crap. I put a lot of time and effort in getting all the information of the riders on Wikipedia, and the only thing you can do is shoot at it, shoot at it, and when you shoot miss you start talking like you're still right. In your position as an administratot you should not behave in this manner. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 10:29, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
No, in my position as administrator I should block you as a continuously disruptive editor. Sadly, I'm involved so I'm not allowed to do that. Yuo did not point out anything I did not do correct before my "crap" post, you just stated that I did some things incorrectly, but when I asked what was wrong about one thing, you just said "oh, not that one, but others, surely, somewhere, perhaps, you know...". Now you have finally given examples: "That the content is As of 1 January 2011"? Thank you for that very nice example of why the non-templated version was better than your templated one. Just look at the top of the teams, underneath the section header "Riders". That the info is for 1 January 2011 only needs to be said once, not over and over again. So that information wasn't lost... And you simply repeat the "Dolmans" link here, even though I told you already, right above your reply, that it links to the 2012 page, not the 2011 page: "Dolmans - Boels Cyclingteam 2012" is the title for a reason. So yes, a load of crap. Again. As is way too often the case. Fram (talk) 10:43, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
The stament as as of 1 January 2011 is important so it shows that the riders who joined or left the team during the season are not listed. When all the information is accurate as of 31 December 2011 this information could be left out. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 10:49, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Nomination for deletion of Template:GPC2011riders

Template:GPC2011riders has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for discussion page. The Banner talk 22:37, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

@The Banner:, please nominate in one nomination all of the templates, instead of every few hours a few. Or will I receive >250 of these kind of messages the upcoming days? Lot easier for both and the whole community :) Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 22:40, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
It would be far better that you stop making those templates and await the faith of them instead of completely ignoring the ongoing discussions. Beside that, I only respond to the templates showing up at Templates with disambiguation links. So it is clear to see that you have created another three templates with links to disambiguation pages instead of proper links. Accuracy, Sir, accuracy! The Banner talk 22:45, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
By adding a huge amount of links, I don't check every link to see it's a disamb. link. A bot reports them to me so I can quickly repair them. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 09:30, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
I suggest that you add the following to your "Custom CSS" (under preferences, appearance)
/* visualisation of redirects and links to disambiguation pages */
.mw-redirect { background-color:#F5DEB3; }
.mw-disambig { background-color:#AFEEEE; }
It gives redirects and links to disambiguation pages a background colour, so they will be easily recognisable. The Banner talk 12:40, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
@The Banner: this is great! But I only don't know how to work with Custom CSS, I'm not working with it. Can you show me how to use it, or a link? Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 12:46, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
@The Banner: I created this User:Sander.v.Ginkel/common.css, will that help? Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 12:48, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
No, that will not work. What you need is to go to your "preference"-page, go to the tab "appearance". You will see 4 different skins there, with one selected. Most likely you have the skin "Vector", behind that is a red link "Custom CSS". You have to add the info in there. The Banner talk 12:55, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Well actualy, @The Banner: it did work :)! This is amazing. It shows me with different colors redirects and links to disamb pages. The first disamb link at Jaqson Kojoroski to Descanso was prevented. Thanks for letting me know. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 13:45, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Just stop. This is yet another example of you being disruptive through carelessness. You add links and just hope that they are the correct ones? Really? And you then only correct those that get flagged by disambig bot, and don't bother to check the others? This, again, is really bad editing, but from your reply here seems to be your standard approach. Fram (talk) 09:43, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Former

Why do you list all these handball players (and many other sporting stubs you create) as "former" players? Without good evidence for such a claim, you better simply not include it. E.g. Mahmoud Hassaballah seems to be still active at the highest level, and many older players may still be active at lower levels. Please don't include things you can't source and haven't checked. Fram (talk) 13:47, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

@Fram:, yes I did that because I didn't see they were part of a handball team in the last at least 5 years. But because you're right that they may still be active at lower levels I will change it. Good point and I will remove it from the articles I created. I will keep He was part of the national team as the current national squads are not listing the person. In doubt I link the the sentence with the notable event he/she competed in (He was part of the national team that competed at the ..). Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 13:54, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. The link you provide only shows national team appearances at the Olympics, so you can't use it to check whether someone still plays at club level or not (or even whether they still play for the national team!). Fram (talk) 14:02, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
What I did check was if the player was on the current national squad (like Egypt national handball team), and so I noticed that Mohamed Ramadan (handballer) is the same peson as Mahmoud Ramadan and that Ahmed El-Ahmar also competd at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Besides from that I checked for incoming links. For example it appears that Jaqson Kojoroski was part of team at the Handball at the 2011 Pan American Games – Men's team rosters and won the gold medal at the Handball at the 2007 Pan American Games. For this example, am I allowed to add the person in the category e.g. Category:Handball players at the 2007 Pan American Games? Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 14:14, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
You should never have categories which aren't supported by the article proper. So for Kojoroski, you should add text about his participation at the 2007 Games before (or when) you add the category. While it isn't absolutely required that you add a reliable source for this as well, it is of course better if you do this. Relying solely on what another Wikipedia article claims is not a good idea, as Wikipedia is not a reliable source. Fram (talk) 14:22, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Yes I understand. You learned me not to copy information from other Wikipedia, and I got myself in troubles with it, I won't copy the information that he was part of the Pan American teams (even when it is assumable he was). I'll also stop adding this kind of categories to the persons page. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 14:28, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

LA CIRCASSIENNE AU BAIN EDIT

Dear Mr Ginkel,

The edit which you have effected on the above page creates an impression which is entirely factually incorrect. Firstly, the image labelled '1823 engraving' is in fact, an approximate ILLUSTRATION of an engraving, which was used to illustrate a discussion of the appearance of the painting at the Louvre in 1814. The illustration appeared in the 'Almanach des Dames' in 1823. The actual engraving, from which the 1823 illustration was derived, and from which the more recent 'copy after' by John Parker obtained a cartoon drawing, was an entirely different work by the well known French engraver - Tavernier. Tavernier's engraving was published in 1819, after having been exhibited in it's own right, in the Louvre exhibition of 1819. As a person who seemingly devotes a great deal of their time to ensuring the accuracy of Wikipedia articles, I feel sure that you wouldn't wish your error to remain in public view for too long. Kindest regards An art lover. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.12.39.176 (talk) 09:16, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

@80.12.39.176:, thank you for your kind respons. I didn't know all this information. I see you are way more into it then I am. Do you mind if I copy what you wrote to the Image on Commons so it's clear for everyone what this image is about. I added it to the article because the original image is lost and there is not an image of the original image only copies. So when having tho different copies of the image, the reader will get a better impression how the original image should have been. I list severel differences between the engraving and the other copy. Do you know which of the two is more accurate? Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 09:24, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Dear Mr Ginkel, And my apologies to you for assuming that it was a malicious edit! You know how it is with your own areas of specialist interest, one can often wrongly assign 'general knowledge' status to information which is really quite obscure! Yes, the 1819 Tavernier engraving, which was reprinted throughout the 19th century (examples do come up for sale quite regularly) is likely to have been a very accurate monochrome representation of the original, given that it was accepted for exhibition at the Louvre in 1819, only five years after the original painting by Blondel had been exhibited there. The 1823 Delpech illustration for the 'Almanach des Dames' really was a rough approximation, intended principally as a visual reminder to the readership of the painting in question.

I have read john Parker's extensive research summary, connected to the reproduction, which is why, out of courtesy, I reinstated the caption copy 'after blondel' below the image. In his research, Parker both illustrates and explains how he used the Tavernier engraving to make a full sized cartoon drawing. He also went into great detail regarding the research into Blondel's pigments etc, but that's another issue! Yes, please do feel free to use any of this information in any way you think would be of benefit to Wikipedia. Kindest regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.12.39.176 (talk) 09:57, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Your AFC Submissions

I believe I have now approved all your AFC submissions, except for those which already exist (and you've been notified of those).

Can you please go back through all of them and move the redirects (or tag them for deletion)? There is no point in creating draft redirects, as they just result in doubles as soon as the article gets approved (and there's no way to approve redirects in AFC anyway).

I strongly recommend that we do not go this way in the future (automated submissions to AFC are a bad idea!) However, it is determined at AN/I that this will be the approach, please do not create templates or redirects in draft space. Also, let me know when you submit the articles (and maybe leave a list for me somewhere so I don't have to hunt), and I can approve them without tagging them as biographies and creating redundant defaultsorts and categories.

If there is another AFC reviewer who is going to review them for you instead, let them know of my comments here. Thank you. Bradv 21:26, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

@Brad: thanks for doing them all! I moved the redirects to the main space. The articles I created yesterday I didn't put in the AfC. They can be viewed at User:Sander.v.Ginkel/drafts waiting for approval. They only have to be moved, if approved, to the main space. I don't think it's a good idea I do it myself, as the people told me not to create in the main space. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 12:42, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
There does not appear to be a consensus at AN/I about you having to go through AFC for your new articles. (However, there is a lot of feedback there about your editing, which I trust you've read).
Please go ahead and move your new articles into main space. Since you're not autopatrolled anymore, those articles will get reviewed at Special:NewPagesFeed. Bradv 14:01, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

UnitedStates-handball-bio-stub?

Why are you creating {{UnitedStates-handball-bio-stub}} when {{US-handball-bio-stub}} already exists and you haven't gone through the appropriate WP:WSS/P process? Stub templates are subject to consensus. There's a project where they're proposed and consensus is gathered to create them. There's no need to create duplicate new templates. ~ Rob13Talk 07:44, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi BU Rob13, thank you for your message. Yes, I see. I wondered already why the United States didn't have this bio stub. I searched for UnitedStates-handball-bio-stub, United States-handball-bio-stub and USA-handball-bio-stub, but not for US. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 21:57, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

Women in sports: a barnstar to honor your diligence

Barnstar of Diligence
Hi Sander, I want to continue to lend a voice of support for the important work you are doing creating articles about women in sport. As long as an article meets standards, it has a place in Wikipedia and I'm grateful for your efforts to create it, no matter the size of the article. All of these women are from some city somewhere in the world, and there are girls in those cities looking up to the hometown hero. Some day, someone will come along and will expand those stubs. I don't care if it that's 5 years, 15 years, or 50 years from now, the wiki thumbprint helps assure that the person doesn't get omitted from the history books. I've written a lot of women's bios after finding the woman in old PD sources, and each time, I think, "Good... I found her! If I don't write this article now, then when? Hi, the article for William Owen (footballer, born 1862) has 1862 as the year of birth in the title but states 1860 in the actual article. As the creator of the article, can you shed any light on which is the correct date? Kosack (talk) 19:22, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

The reference given in the article doesn't help. There are two William Owens listed at that website, and this article appears to conflate both of them together.
@Sander.v.Ginkel:, please explain. Bradv 19:33, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
I see the name is not correct, the other person is William Pierce Owen. I saw the red link at List of Wales international footballers (alphabetical) and started creating the article. I however didn't notice the red link had a typo in it. Will change it! Thanks, Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 21:57, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
When Changning I see I mixed them indeed. There not 2 but even 3(!) As I don't have time now and only a crappy phone I will fix it tomorrow on the Wiki pages having a proper computer. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 22:28, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

You claim that Eugen Mühlberger died in August 1943 without any evidence. What makes you give this date, instead of the date given in the source? Please explain! The Banner talk 19:57, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

That was a typo.. Thanks For noticing. As I see you're screening drafts, it would have been appriciated if you moved screened drafts to the main space. Why not doing that, and leaving the job to someone else? Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 21:51, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, and now the other mistakes. Please, be more accurate and give more sources. The Banner talk 22:07, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
More drafts to fix:
  1. Draft:Willem Tholen - incorrect age
  2. Draft:Joop Zalm - same
  3. Draft:Martin Rubin - incomplete, no player just plays in the Olympics
  4. Draft:Claudia Sturm - same
  5. Draft:Max Schär - same
  6. Draft:Cecilio Alonso - same
  7. and many, many more

With the first two there is nothing wrong with the age. They are all listed with the help of Template:death date and age, and they are all correct. I see also still the age is listed as how old they should be by now. That information is not needed in the articles and I removed it. For the other things, these people only meet WP:NSPORTS because they competed at the Olympics. Almost all of the former Olympians who are created, are created in this way. To create such an article 1 reliable source is enough the start the article with. I tagged the articles as a stub, a definition of a stub is: A stub is an article that, although providing some useful information, is too short to provide encyclopedic coverage of a subject, and that is capable of expansion. But I you find some usefull information about the players with a reference, I invite you to add it to the article. I can explain you also how you could move a draft to the main space after you've screened some. This would be constructive for Wikipedia, and also not someone else has to do the same job as you did again. Or is it that you're only screening my draft looking for some errors to complain about me? Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 09:00, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

Stop whining, Sander, but upgrade the quality of your work. Your attitude shows that you have prefer production over quality. And those mistakes in the ages could have prevented by simple reading the article before saving. The Banner talk 10:29, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

I guess the "incomplete" is about the number of appearances for the national team, where you only list the olympic appearances. While this is noted in the infobox, I do think it is a rather poor way of handling this. For e.g. Max Schär, you could have used [21] which lists his olympic results and his statistics with the national team and in competition. Before starting a batch of articles, it would often be better if you looked for better sources, so that at least the basic information is reasonably complete. Now you way too often focus on one (important but small) aspect of a career to build your articles on. Fram (talk) 09:55, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

Please compare: your edit[22], my edit[23]. When you edit these articles, please check that the basics (like year of birth) are the same as in the source. While these dates have little real importance for long-dead people, they are of major importance for sporters, and may have real-life implications. Fram (talk) 10:19, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

When you are changing links, e.g. at Ursula Lohn, who do you keep the less useful team link instead of using the individual player link? [24] Has all the info of the link you use, plus some more. Of course, a link that actually referenced the line it is following ("On club level she plays for TuS Ahrbach in Germany") would be even better. Fram (talk) 10:50, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

A link like [25] would be really useful for the reader, and for the next editor willing to expand such a stub. Fram (talk) 10:52, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

Your Drafts

I would accept your Drafts but they need better sources than the sole SportsReference. SwisterTwister talk 19:47, 16 December 2016 (UTC)

@SwisterTwister: Thank you for your willingness to review my pages. As the Olympic sportspeople meet WP:NOLYMPICS, so one reference such as sports-reference is enough to get published. Sports-reference is very reliable so a better source is not needed. This is done for about all Olympic articles of (former) Olympians that are created. Festive greetings!

AN/i

You did a lot of damage to yourself with your "Proposal 4". I am hesitant about voting about the community ban, but seeing the way you act I must admit that I do not oppose it. You have made a spectacular mess of it and you have blown up your own credibility. It will take quite some time to restore that. Your battleground mentality, finger pointing, WP:IDHT, revenge proposals, following around, lack of quality is now coming back to you as a boomerang.

I will give you one last chance by voting for proposal 2 so you get a chance to show the community that your attitude can change and that the quality of your work can improve. But lie low and do not push your luck. The Banner talk 11:40, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

It was a bit childish, but his frustration is understandable. Fram isn't perfect, I think that was Sander's point. Going to ANI in the first place, expecting sympathy was one of the gravest mistakes to make though as the atmosphere tends to be hostile to content producers and WP:BOOMERANG usually results.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:46, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

Closing

There's been a closing of the discussion on AN/I by Avi. The three parts of the close are this:

  • 1. For a period of six (6) months, Sander is restricted to creating no more tha[n] two (2) articles on living people per day. These articles must be created in user space, and must be approved by either an administrator or a New Page Reviewer before being moved into main article space. The limitation on two articles also includes making material edits to existing articles on living people. Barring further violations, this restriction will lapse after six months.
  • 2. [S]hould Sander be shown to violate the editing restrictions, any uninvolved administrator may block Sander for as long as they feel necessary to protect the project, up to and including indefinitely. This extends beyond the six (6) month restriction unless lifted by community discussion and consensus.
  • 3. [A] list of Sander's existing problematic BLP articles should be made for reference for interested parties to recreate properly. Once created, one (1) week's notice should be given in a public enough manner so that editors and interested Wikiprojects (Cycling and Olympics were mentioned by name) can "adopt" articles to either correct during that week or userfy for longer-term correction. After said week, corrected articles should be removed from the list and the remaining uncorrected BLP articles should be deleted.

You can read the entire text of the close, which includes caveats, at the discussion. Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:18, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

@Beyond My Ken: Thank you for noticing me. Does the first part mean I can't add info to no more than 2 (new or existing) BLP articles per day? Does material edits also include adding (medal) templates? Does this also mean I can't edit more than 2 articles I already created? Regarding to point 3, when will this week start? Is help from me appriciated in this matter? Thanks, Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 18:22, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

It is quite disappointing how you react of your boomerang. Let me make it clear: what you did on Template:Bryan was close to vandalism. If you had properly read the template, you could have seen that you were supposed to add the page number when using it.

Stop doing such crap, or you will be back at AN/I soon. The Banner talk 22:07, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

Some advice

Hi, Sander. You probably don't know me that well, but I'm an editor in the sports field who has been following your case at ANI. As you know, the case has closed with some restrictions on you in terms of working on BLPs. I understand that this is likely difficult for you, as you are apparently used to working at a high rate of speed, but I admit to being concerned when I see that your first batch of edits after the ANI includes a series of tags added to articles that Fram has worked on. While you may have negative feelings towards them over the ANI, many of the users supporting a block were concerned by your attitude in proposing speedy deletion of all articles that user created. I can't read their minds, but I think they felt that you were trying to deflect attention from issues in your work, even if that wasn't the intention. There is probably going to be a segment of the community that will be keeping close tabs on your work in the near-future, and you need to show them that you are capable of changing and being more careful in your editing. Any edits that can be seen as going after Fram's articles just make it appear that you are trying to retaliate against them for criticizing you, which isn't the look you should be aiming for right now.

What you need to do is take that critical eye and use it in judging your own work. When reviewing articles by others, I often find it much easier to spot problems in their work than in mine, so I understand that this is hard, but it is doable. When editing, take a second before you save to check out what you are doing. Don't blindly trust websites like Wikidata or other Wikipedias, as they are only as good as the users who work there; we can all make mistakes, and any errors there can easily be replicated here if you're not careful. Be especially cautious with sensitive BLP info, such as any allegations or birth date controversies; you might want to avoid those topics for now, as several of us brought that up as a concern. My recommendation is to use your two BLP edits per day fixing issues in your previous work. I believe you mentioned that you were making a list of problematic BLP articles. That is a perfect place to start. If you do some work fixing your previously created articles, that would go a long way towards showing the community that you understand its concerns and want to better yourself and your work. Anyway, this is only my advice and you can take it or leave it. I feel like you've been given a second chance here, and I don't want you to waste it worrying about others' work. Focus on improving your own editing and things will take care of themselves. While I'm here, have a happy holidays. Giants2008 (Talk) 21:42, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

I echo User:Giants2008 comments. You're on very thin ice, Sander. I wouldn't be surprised if a non-involved admin decides that your actions after the close indicate you cannot edit cordially with others. For your own sake, disassociate from anything to do with Fram. Fram is not your problem. Your own negligence and carelessness got you into this mess, it will take an exhibit of care and concern to get you out of it, -- Avi (talk) 22:41, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

Stop icon with clock
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 1 week for persistent disruptive editing. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may request an unblock by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:30, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

I've just gone through the latest batch of edits that have resulted in complaints, and I've seen enough. You need to take a break from editing while everyone assesses the situation, and it doesn't appear you can do that voluntarily. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:30, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

@The Banner: Can you please explain why you reverted my edits like this one and this one? Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 15:35, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
Because they looked very much like revenge templating, trying to hurt Fram instead of improving the article. Secondly, while you are blocked, you are only allowed to discuss your block and nothing else. The Banner talk 18:00, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

Sander, this is the last time I am going to say this. You are one step away from having your editing privileges indefinitely revoked for inability to collaborate with others. You have been a lazy and careless editor causing an enormous amount of work for others to clean up. You are fortunate that most wikipedians are decent folk and that Wikipedia as a project is not interested in punishment but growth. However, when someone exhibits behavior which indicates that collaborative editing will not occur, the project suffers, no matter how prolific a content creator that person may be. Your content creation itself, for that matter, has been of more harm than good. Take this break week to seriously consider whether or not you are an editor whose skills and talents are best suited for the Wikipedia collaborative model. There is no shame in realizing one's talents lie in different areas, we all have unique personalities whose expressions differ. But realize that continuing the behavior you have exhibited this week, let alone over the past, will result in the project taking measures to protect itself which will almost certainly be the indefinite removal of your editing privileges. Happy Holidays and good luck. -- Avi (talk) 16:11, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

@The Banner: Like I've told you several times before, it would have been way better to have made one TfD and listing the different templates in stead of 100 different ones. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 15:37, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
They have by now been merged at TfD. But please not that you are not allowed to ask about that... The Banner talk 18:04, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

Request for reviewing my block

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Sander.v.Ginkel (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

1) I am not allowed to make >2 edits per day on a BLP articles, but the pages I edited where not on BLP articles.
2) I was blocked for making about 10 edits like this one. While I had a dispute with user Fram (the creator of the articles) I don't see why those edits are wrong and against guideliness. In my opinion the block was made out of sentiment and not following the rules that have been made. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 20:26, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

Decline reason:

What The Banner said: Seems like you have been tagging articles substantially edited by Fram in a way that suggests you were engaging in revenge tagging. If these edits were done in good faith one would expect at least several articles - if not most - to not be edited by her (?). It's also not the first time you have retaliated against Fram. Wikipedia is not interested in vendettas and disguising them as good edits doesn't fly. It's probably best if you step away from her and her contributions at all for a while. I also think it's ill advised to ignore the comments on one's own talk page that were posted immediately before you made the appeal. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 20:49, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Alejandro Vega requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
