Casualty series articles

Hello – I was just adding templates to series 35, and noticed that the "season_number" parameter in the infobox can be changed to "series_number" and changes the wording to British English. Did you know of this? Because I certainly didn't until now. I didn't change it because I wanted to keep it consistent with all 34 other articles, but I think it's worth changing. – DarkGlow (contribstalk) 12:53, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi DarkGlow! Oddly enough, I think I knew this, but I just haven't noticed it on any of the WP:HOLBY series articles. I'd agree that it should be changed. Are you happy doing this? Soaper1234 - talk 17:37, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
Sure, I can change it, it's a very quick and easy edit from mobile for me. DarkGlow (contribstalk) 17:45, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
Done the above. I also added bold to the series numbers in the lead and removed a bunch of stray IMDb references. The source levels are now even lower in the first 20ish series, but I thought it was better than violating WP:CITEIMDB. – DarkGlow (contribstalk) 18:09, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
@DarkGlow: That's great. Might try and search for some sources at the some point. Soaper1234 - talk 22:48, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

Casualty source

Hello – I noticed you're substantially working on expanding Tess Bateman (and Casualty articles in general), and in case you hadn't seen, there is a fairly useful source here – you've probably seen it, but just in case you haven't I used it to source a statement on Packer's article but there is a lot to be taken from it. – DarkGlow (contribstalk) 23:48, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

@DarkGlow: Thank you for thinking of me. I've actually already included it in the articles (that particular part is part of a wider press pack), but thank you Soaper1234 - talk 16:59, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
Also, to add, I spotted you had joined WP:HOLBY. Nice to have you on the project! Soaper1234 - talk 17:00, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
I thought I might as well, since I've been doing minor edits in the Holby universe for a while. I'm currently focusing on Ackley Bridge and Hollyoaks articles – at this moment in time I'm working on articles for Kaneez Paracha, Mandy Carter and Brooke Hathaway. However, once these are done, I really want to put a focus on Casualty articles, including making a List of awards and nominations received by Casualty article. DarkGlow (contribstalk) 17:29, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
You're doing some great work at the moment. My biggest piece of advice is to paraphrase. It is something I was told a while back and it really helped my edits. I noticed you had changed your Doctors GA from big blocks of quote to paraphrased paragraphs and I thought it made it look really good. Any expansion of the Holby universe articles are more than welcome, especially Casualty as it isn't as big. An awards/nom page would be great. In terms of Casualty, I'm hoping to continue with the Tess Bateman page, but I'm struggling to find sources for her earlier stories. I'd also quite like to get the episode lists to FL status at some point. Soaper1234 - talk 18:09, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, paraphrasing was something I never majorly considered until a few months ago, when I realised how unappealing a huge block of quotes look in an article. The work you've been doing on Tess' article is really great, you have a good chance of GA there. I've applied for GA status for Juliet Nightingale which I made a few months ago. I'd love to help out on the earlier sourcing, but you know exactly what you're looking for. Soap coverage was really low in the 2000s, wasn't it? That's the one thing that's kept me from being able to expand the Doctors character articles from 2000–2009, they're virtually stubs/don't actually exist. – DarkGlow (contribstalk) 18:28, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
@DarkGlow: Thank you. Good luck with the Juliet article. Sourcing from pre-2010(ish) is just a pain, I felt rather fortunate to even find what I have to be honest! You can often find some bits offline, such as magazines and books, but it is having the access to this that is the issue. I'm going to keep trying, so hopefully I'll find something! Soaper1234 - talk 18:51, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, there's a lot of offline content out there, but unfortunately, I was very young pre-2010 so I didn't keep hold of any soap magazines haha. I find the Hollyoaks character articles fairly easy to write, perhaps because they develop their characters really well in my opinion. – DarkGlow (contribstalk) 19:04, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, it's hard. I've only just started collecting magazines in the last couple of years, so my archive isn't as extensive. I've looked to create a couple of Hollyoaks character articles recently, but never got round to it due to offline commitments. When I'm more free, I'm hoping to make something. I started updating Silas Blissett not long ago and I'd like to finish that too. Soaper1234 - talk 19:24, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
I noticed the work on Silas' page too, it's great so far! I imagine there's a lot out there for him. After Brooke, I was going to work on an article for Sid but that's recently been done. And I hope everything is ok in your offline life! – DarkGlow (contribstalk) 20:27, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
Thank you, I've been surprised how much is there. That was a quick turn around on Brooke, well done! Soaper1234 - talk 09:23, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
Thank you! I didn't quite expect to finish it that soon, considering I started it a day prior, but there wasn't as much content to work with in contrast to what I had with Juliet. I guess it's since Juliet had the year-long county lines arc which developed her really well. Thinking of making of an article for that storyline... – DarkGlow (contribstalk) 12:16, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
That sounds like a great project to work on. I'm sure there are plenty of sources available for that. The only thing I'd say is to possibly hold off until it has finished (or has it finished?) so that you can get the most out of it. Soaper1234 - talk 13:15, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, it'll be ongoing until Victor is gone and Juliet is out of prison, so I'm gonna work on it gradually in my sandbox. I tend to hyperfixate on projects and get them done in a big burst of energy and motivation, so it'll be good to have something that I literally cannot finish for the foreseeable. You watch though, I'll probably have it published on the day of its conclusion... I'm going to start on the Casualty award page today though! DarkGlow (contribstalk) 13:28, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
That sounds like a great plan. All the best with that and I look forward to seeing the Casualty award page too! Let me know if I can be of any help with anything. Soaper1234 - talk 21:11, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
Also, something else that I meant to mention, have you ever thought about going for a WP:DYK for the articles you complete? As a regular creator, this is something open to you. It is a great thing for Wikipedia and can attract more views to your articles. Plus, you get to boast it on your userpage haha! Soaper1234 - talk 21:13, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
I've looked into DYK before and almost submitted a nomination, but I can never think of fun facts to nominate lol. And I've started the Casualty awards article, if you want to take a look. It's going to take longer than I thought – there are a lot of awards missing! There is one thing I need assistance with, because I've scoured for it with no avail. Do you happen to have a reference for them winning Best Loved Drama at the 1999 TV Quick Awards? – DarkGlow (contribstalk) 21:26, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
Fair enough! Yeah, it is a mean task, especially considering the 35-year history. I'm struggling to find anything, but I'll let you know if I do. Soaper1234 - talk 01:02, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Thank you! And yeah, there's a lot of awards to cover, and I thought the Doctors awards article was a lengthy revamp! I plan to update all of the soap's award pages after these tasks. I always have soooo many Wikipedia ideas and soooo little time... – DarkGlow (contribstalk) 01:14, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
All good signs of a good editor! Soaper1234 - talk 01:23, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Hello – I added Tina to the characters list with a DS spoilers article. Do you happen to have a better source? The one I used verifies her appearing on 25 July 2020, but not it doesn't verify that being her first appearance, and it's bugging me lol. – DarkGlow (contribstalk) 16:35, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
@DarkGlow: Well thought of! I completely forgot when updating the article earlier. I'll add the source for her being a regular. Soaper1234 - talk 17:47, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

Whitney

Hey! I hope you are well :) On Whitney Dean's page, I added "2020" to the actress who portrayed her in a hallucination, but you reverted this. I wanted to ask if I could please add this back? On the MOS page, it says that soap character actors should have the years that they appeared in the soap if there are multiple actors, and there are 2 actresses for Whitney. The year that the actress portrayed Whitney is not mentioned elsewhere in the article, so I wanted to add "2020" to clarify this, so then a reader would not be misled into thinking that the actress has been portraying Whitney for years in regular hallucinations, for example. In USA soap opera pages, they don't have "flashback" or "hallucinations" in the infobox, they just have the years(s) and then explain further in the casting section, but Whitney does not have one (Just to clarify, I am not from the USA - I know that many people think so on wikipedia as I edit so many articles from USA soap operas, but I am from the UK haha) and I think it is better to be consistent. Thank you!DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 01:07, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

@DaniloDaysOfOurLives: Hello, I'm well. Hope you are too. I'm not sure why I reverted that, although it should probably be referenced within the article, so I'll sort that now. Soaper1234 - talk 15:50, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
Your great work on Tess Bateman is seen and appreciated, and even inspired me to start watching Classic Casualty. Well done! – DarkGlow (contribstalk) 13:05, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
@DarkGlow: Wow! Thank you - I really appreciate that. I enjoyed working on the article and I'm glad it has improved from what it was. Soaper1234 - talk 15:52, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
I realised how much it had improved while looking at an old revision of the page! One thing though – Tess' article is the only Casualty character article to not have a violet infobox colouring parameter – was unsure whether you were going to add it in so I left it DarkGlow (contribstalk) 16:03, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
@DarkGlow: Yes, I did notice that. I'm not sure why other Casualty articles have the violet colouring though, hence why I did not include it. I can always add it back if need be. Soaper1234 - talk 16:42, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, it's strange – I assume whoever added them did it to make them consistent with the daily soaps? Loving Classic Casualty atm, I'm on the episode where Susan Cookson makes her debut as Maggie. Had no idea she was even in Casualty, especially a regular! – DarkGlow (contribstalk) 17:33, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
@DarkGlow: Hmm, perhaps. Glad you're enjoying the older episodes, they are a good watch. A very different era to now. Yes, I'd say Maggie is the role I know Susan Cookson for the most! Soaper1234 - talk 17:45, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
I really had no clue she was such an established actress – I only knew her from her role as Wendy! Also, you know how the usage of "former" was favoured to "past", should the names of past soap characters be amended to former? Because if we go by definitions, they would be considered a list of former characters. And I've noticed that most lists of things from the past use former. Let me know your thoughts; I could perhaps open an RM discussion. – DarkGlow (contribstalk) 18:00, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
@DarkGlow: Are you referring to the lists such as List of past EastEnders characters? Soaper1234 - talk 20:04, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
Oh, yes – I should have made that clearer lol. – DarkGlow (contribstalk) 21:52, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
@DarkGlow: An interesting suggestion. I would say bring it up at WP:SOAPS for a discussion. Soaper1234 - talk 12:56, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

Two things

Hi – thank you for trimming down Sarah's museum of relatives on her infobox. I'm hesitant with to do it myself with characters that I haven't seen the whole tenure of, since I'd be worried I'm removing a relative that they had a notable relationship with once upon a time lol. I noticed you're adding images to the soap character lists, and it motivated me to finally complete the task of uploading my photos from the 2019 BSAs, so there'll be a few more photos if you want to use them. I have multiple photos with each actor so there are technically more photos, but I've now uploaded at least one of every cast member I have. Hope you're keeping well! DarkGlow (contribstalk) 01:54, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

@DarkGlow: Hello. No problem, I mainly based it on her stories as she won't have interacted with many people as a baby. It was the newer relatives I was unsure about, so feel free to trim them. That would be great. I'd recommend adding them to Wikimedia Commons and if you could, adding them to the respective soap's category. It really helps when searching for them! I'm hoping to reference and add photos to all the lists. Soaper1234 - talk 01:58, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, when I first began uploading the images, I uploaded them to Wikipedia rather than Commons for god knows what reason lol. I exported a number of them over to Commons a couple weeks ago, but some still need transferring which I'll do, as well as categorising all of them (as currently, only some are categorised). – DarkGlow (contribstalk) 02:04, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
@DarkGlow: That would be fab. It's great to get more images for soap actors. Soaper1234 - talk 02:06, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Removed your edits on List of EastEnders characters

Your additions to the List of EastEnders characters page were completely unnecessary and complicated the page. These edits appear not to have been agreed upon too! Connorguy99 (talk) 16:12, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Connorguy99: Let's have a discussion on the character list talk page then. And, sourcing things on Wikipedia is never "completely unnecessary". – DarkGlow (contribstalk) 16:45, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
@Connorguy99: I've responded to your concerns at the talk page. Soaper1234 - talk 22:47, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Mandy Dingle

Hi. I notice reverted my edit. It was made with good cause.

There was 14 months between her 2000 and her 2001 appearanceS. See her appearance page on the Emmerdale Wiki: https://emmerdale.fandom.com/wiki/Mandy_Dingle_-_List_of_appearances.

Conquistador2k6 5 March 2021 17:58 (UTC)

@Conquistador2k6: Hello. The rule states that there should be a calendar year in between appearances, i.e. an entire year (rather than 12 months) that the character did not appear. Mandy appeared in both 2000 and 2001, which therefore means that her duration is 1995-2001. For an example of how it applies, see Faith Dingle. She left in 2019, did not appear in 2020 and returned in 2021, making her duration 2017-2019, 2021-. Hope that clears that up. Soaper1234 - talk 05:23, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Columns

Hey - I just wanted to let you know that the widths were changed on the EE article as, on the mobile view, the width wasn't big enough to fit durations (e.g. 2015–2018 wouldn't fit, so it would look like

2015-
2018, which looks quite confusing, so I changed the width so that it fits :) DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 21:25, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

@DaniloDaysOfOurLives: While I can appreciate how it may appear on two different lines for mobile users, the new widths appear odd on the desktop view. I really believe that having the duration over two lines is better than having the entire table squashed. Soaper1234 - talk 21:48, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Honey Wright

On 11 March 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Honey Wright, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that scenes of Honey Wright driving in Casualty had to be filmed carefully as actress Chelsee Healey could not drive? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Honey Wright. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Honey Wright), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Oh that should be good. I saw you'd done a few articles recently about characters too. I'm good thanks, hope you are too. Soaper1234 - talk 22:30, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
Yes! I had no plans whatsoever to write articles for Emma nor Sadiq, but as I was writing their sections, I just kept finding more and more! It felt weird to have certain characters have loads of info so I split them. I wish that was the case for other characters such as Saleem, Lorraine Candice, etc. No development info and not even storylines to drag out and drain into a paragraph! And I'm doing mostly okay thanks, other than my toothache that feels like knives being teased through my gums when the ibuprofen/paracetamols wear off! DarkGlow (contribstalk) 23:19, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
It is good when an article forms itself! That's what happened with me when creating Barry Barry and Slater family (EastEnders). It's always a nice feeling. That doesn't sound good. Hope you feel better soon. Soaper1234 - talk 23:36, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
