Hey TOS - 'heads or tails'?

This is just a bit of fun and sorry to keep bugging you but I was thinking that, since your a 'maths geek' form India --> (check out the last four images on my user page) maybe you can make heads or tails of them. Any thoughts or comments???.--OneMadScientist (talk) 10:54, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

No worries on disturbing me. If it's not something I can reply right now, I keep it for later, hoping that I'll come back to them later.
The middle two are both Shiva, the Hindu God of destruction. I like the third image more, but it might be because the second pose (The Natraja) is the dance that literally destroys the universe. You might find more pictures at Commons.
The first and last are the same, which makes me wonder why you did that. I recognize its a fractal, and I love the way they self replicate again and again. But image wise, I might have liked a spiral or a snowflake better. Then again, thats just me :)
TheOriginalSoni (talk) 03:03, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Oh TOS, I thought at least you would appreciate the similarity of the two sets of images. With the 1st Mandelbrot set image looking like the dancing Shiva and the reflected Mandelbrot image as resembling the meditating Shiva, and me saying "heads or tails" meant something along the lines of "what a chance occurrence hey?" but I suppose those Mandelbrot images also bare a striking resemblance to a pile of dog crap. I also think destroyer is a pretty narrow definition of Shiva, I think 'Transformer' is more apt. "Shaivas believe that Shiva is All and in all, the creator, preserver, destroyer, revealer and concealer of all that is". OneMadScientist (talk) 10:51, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Its also the similarity in what they both 'REPRESENT'!!?? that's also interesting??. :-|--OneMadScientist (talk) 14:40, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Snuggle 1.0rc1

Hi Soni. I've finally finished my re-write of Snuggle and pushed a release candidate up to the Wikimedia Labs cluster. If you have some time to check it out this weekend, I'd really appreciate it if you would report any confusion, bugs or missing features you come across. If we can work out any glaring problems this weekend, I'd like to welcome a larger group of users on Monday.

See http://snuggle.instance-proxy.wmflabs.org/.

Thanks for your patience. --EpochFail(talkwork) 21:11, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

@EpochFail: Finally! :)
I'll be available only tomorrow evening onwards (in about 30 hours or so), and you can expect a very long list of feedback from my side then. Just tell me how to give you that list, so it's given in the best way possible, for you.
Cheers,
TheOriginalSoni (talk) 06:53, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
Excellent! Bug reports in the issue tracker are easiest for me to consume, but I understand that can be cumbersome. If so, posting on WT:Snuggle/Feedback would be great. Thanks for your time. :) --EpochFail(talkwork) 18:16, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

OneMadScientist and Technical 13 What!?? I don't get it??? Did I missed something. What are you talking about?? And what's the difference between =P and :P ??? Miss Bono (zootalk) 12:53, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

:-O OneMadScientist (talk) 13:09, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

What??? Miss Bono (zootalk) 13:13, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
  • LMAO that could be construed as very much an insult... You're basically calling poor little Miss Bono who is a teenage female from Cuba with a strong affection for Bono and U2 a 34 year old balding, toothless man from the US state of Maine, who although he likes rock music, is hardly a fan of Bono or U2 (okay, they have a couple decent songs, but that is all I am saying)... Technical 13 (talk) 14:15, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Hey you could be anyone T13 you might be the big African lady who lives next door for all I know, and it was a bit of a coincidence Miss Bono showing up like that after being away for a while. Anywho as for music what do you like T13 I like all sorts. (I request an IP trace)OneMadScientist (talk) 14:25, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Don't you trust me??? I am offended... about the IP trace request... Miss Bono (zootalk) 14:28, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Feel free to geolocate my IP address if you wish. I am exactly who I say I am and I am a resident of the US state of Maine as I have told you. The real question is, if you really think I might be the big African lady who lives next door, would you really want to make me upset with you? Technical 13 (talk) 14:45, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

I, being stupid and reckless, with several metal plates in my head to prove it, ain't afraid of no body (NOBODY).OneMadScientist (talk) 14:49, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

  • Ladies, I just wanted to make sure T13 and OMS know that Laura here does not have English as a first language, and will probably not understand when you're joking. So it's better we make our jokes slightly less subtle, eh? :) TheOriginalSoni (talk) 14:50, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
yeah, please... Hi Soni. Miss Bono (zootalk) 15:06, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
LOL I'm fully aware of Laura's level of knowledge of English... I also know that she's not afraid to ask me multiple times on my talk page if something I said has confused her knowing that I would be happy to try and explain it out. I try to make it blatantly obvious when I'm joking about stuff by using the template, and I think she gets that. Most of my comments here are not jokes though, so unless I missed the fact that OMS was joking about something, I'm not sure what is up with that... Anyways, I'm home now, but am alone with the baby... I'll get back to working on the {{Freenode}} template sandbox. *drags his feet and gets back to work*... Technical 13 (talk) 15:21, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
awww you have a baby??? Sweet!!!, Technical 13 Miss Bono (zootalk) 15:23, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

I wasn't joking and I have three babies ages 22, 18 and 16 (the last two live with me) and its getting late for me IN PERTH (check my IP edits - not hard to find) You could also work out my exact birthday 4/5/1974 and you know my fist name. And I've got near perfect teeth and a full head of hair although not quite as thick on top as it use to be - (clean living and a pure heart). Its cool T13 (but remember to floss its even more important than brushing)!!OneMadScientist (talk) 15:29, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Yep, I always floss my teeth!! and brush them like 1/0 times in a day Miss Bono (zootalk) 15:37, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
They are not babies, they are women lol. I am 19 y-old and fotunately have no babies yet. i have to finish college. I thought you were a teenager. Where are you from,OneMadScientist Miss Bono (zootalk) 15:40, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
I just soak my teeth in their little pink box at night... No flossing here... HA! Technical 13 (talk) 15:47, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

@ Laura - No they are BOYS all three, I am in and from Perth Australia and I'm 39. Good girl with the flossing but don't brush that much its better just to rinse really well several times with water after sugary drinks snacks etc.♥ OneMadScientist (talk) 15:51, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

OMS, I was just sincerely trying to help you by being as direct as possible. Some people here are actually very serious people, and don't like to be disturbed, especially for silly reasons. I am one of those who don't mind it even if it comes my way (Though some of the times, I do look over them if I'm actually busy). Look, lets stop wasting precious time with all this, but I would like to say.

1) I saw you say you would "prefer a virgin cubra libra" (which is a coca-cola right?) to someone once when I was (TPS)ing you (I went to effort to get that for you).
2) I can be very very very serious and 'cuttingly analytical' to say the least

(my joking is sometimes a way of compensating for that I suppose and trying to be NICE :-).

3) I am a very bad speller (There is no real absolute logic in it)
4) I mistook the name of Tentinator for Terminator and feel (as a Wiki newbie at least) my remarks to him/her were fine. Did someone complain about them?

OneMadScientist (talk) 17:27, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

Gracias senor. :)
No. Nobody complained about them. But I was kindof worried someone else might not like it, if I didn't ask you to watch out.

Hello,

On Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Daniel Beckwitt, you mentioned that you tagged Yves Chaudron for speedy deletion. I removed the speedy deletion template because the person may have some notability. That being said, I would not oppose a PROD or AfD. Uberaccount (talk) 01:02, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

@Uberaccount: I've sent it to AfD. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 01:08, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

Howdy! If I might add my 2c here: Ole Christian Bach should probably go and Daniel Beckwitt should probably go too, but Yves Chaudron is a very different story, in my view. The theft of the Mona Lisa in 1911 was one of the most significant art crimes of the 20th century. The forgeries Chaudron created were good enough to pass as originals and were sold for $300,000 a piece (in 1911 money; millions today). On the basis of his art alone, he probably passes WP:ARTIST (I'd reckon) and he is regularly listed as one of the greatest art forgers of all time. Well beyond a petty thief or conman (though the petty thief and conman connected to that crime both have articles too, such is the significance). He (and his cohorts) have also been the subject of many books, including historical re-imaginings, several films and many subsequent "pop culture type" references. By all means put the other two up per WP:CRIME, but would you reconsider Chaudron? (I've added a "speedy keep" comment to the AFD anyway) Stalwart111 07:40, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

Hello,
I looked at the "Find sources" after the first Keep, but unfortunately I could see only one distinct source, which I wasnt sure to believe or not. So I thought I'll rather wait until more sources come up/more people comment on it.
The article as it currently stands has me in no doubt about its notability, and I've withdrawn my nomination. Also, good job with the expansion :)
Cheers,
TheOriginalSoni (talk) 13:49, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
No worries! I must say, most of the sources weren't in normal Google search results but GoogleBooks (probably because of the age) had plenty to work with. Easy to see how you came to your conclusion. Cheers, Stalwart111 14:44, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

Template:Freenode

Quick note... I had set the parameter to be named {{{nick}}} for the reason that it is optional and I intend to add other optional parameters (like {{{prompt}}} and {{{uio}}} user interface options) as well. Later! Technical 13 (talk) 12:28, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Update: The template will now take any username and replace all invalid characters and the "|" with "_". The last username checking feature will be to check to make sure the first character is not a number or a "-". I'd like you to take a look and play with it to make sure it is right before I move on to add that 1st character check and before I add the {{{prompt}}} (which should be a super simple {{#if:{{{prompt|}}}|prompt={{Yesno|{{{prompt}}}|yes=1|no=0}}}} Technical 13 (talk) 16:24, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
The problem still exists if you add #wikipedia and not wikipedia. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 16:32, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Also... Forgot to mention I have not yet debugged the extra # issue yet... Still in my head though... Technical 13 (talk) 16:33, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
Also... I was thinking about it, and I think if there are no allowed characters then "Non-Latin_User.." (the ".." adds a two digit random number) would be most appropriate imho... That said, that will be the outermost test, so the other issues need resolution first. Technical 13 (talk) 16:39, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi TheOriginalSoni. I'm glad that you urged me to consider the suggestions of COI editors as if they had no COI. I would expect the same where I have a COI and the suggestion that seemed ridiculous on its surface turned out to be reasonable. I'm going to check-out at this point, as I think any constructive conversation has passed, but feel free to ping me if my input is needed.

I've seen some Request Edits where every sentence in the article was factually incorrect and many PR people spend hours, weeks and months trying to chase down an editor to get meaningful feedback. So the idea of debating the finer points of WEIGHT - I just think there is more important work to be done. I myself have supported companies in a PR role where half the article was just junk and it is still not always easy to get it fixed.

Wish me luck this weekend as my wife and I go to an actual brick and mortar library for the first time since college to get some sources that will help me finish the next leg on the history of public relations. ;-) CorporateM (Talk) 00:54, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

I think your comment over at COI is something that requires nuance. One of the reasons for a COI to disclose is to subject themselves to extra scrutiny. On one hand we don't want to embrace borderline harassment, paranoia and excessive defensiveness, but without being naive, gullible and vulnerable. The shoe was on the other foot for me over at Publishers Clearing House, but I understand it and I think we can work things out anyway. I would say something about being open-minded, as oppose to pretending like the COI does not exist. CorporateM (Talk) 23:21, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
I would like it if you could add those comments there too.
The paranoia is more prevalent than the other side here, and it's exactly that which I wish to lessen. I've tried to use the work "suggest" for that very reason. I doubt being "open minded" as a policy would make any difference to those who are likely to be paranoid about COI. This is why, while I agree the situation is much more nuanced, I'd like the policy to be straightforward in its suggestion that both be considered equal. Please retract

Please retract your comment here. It's completely untrue. Prioryman (talk) 21:08, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Prioryman, I don't think its completely untrue, which is why I would not redact it. I used the words "possibly misleading", because that's exactly what the particular reply in question turned out to be. My stand still remains in favour of the TFA though. Also, I do not make any comments on whether Gibraltarpedia was involved or not. I simply note that the way you presented it made it appear it wasn't when it might have been. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 22:18, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
The only reason I presented it as "appearing" that Gibraltarpedia wasn't involved was because Gibraltarpedia in fact wasn't involved. When you say "might have been", you of course have absolutely no basis for supposing that to be the case. Prioryman (talk) 22:55, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
The article's improvement took place this year. Gibratarpedia was last year. Your reason for dismissing possible links to Gibraltarpedia is that the article was created in 2010, which is a misleading reason. If the improvement was before Gibraltarpedia, that would have not left even a doubt that the two arent related. But since it is not, it opens room for a possible (even indirect) relation. I don't think I would be easily taking simply your word that the two were not connected, hence my noting that the statement under question would be possibly misleading. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 23:07, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
I think you really need to read up on what "assuming good faith" means, frankly. Prioryman (talk) 06:48, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Given that you have already made a possibly misleading statement by pointing to something that appeared infallible but wasn't, it makes sense for me to have AGF would be superceded by common sense, and made me question your statement, though not accuse you of any wrongdoing. AGF is at one place, and common sense, another. Also, lets stop beating another dead horse, and carry on since that discussion is now closed. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 08:28, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

  • The relevant policies under question are Wikipedia:Spam, Wikipedia:Summary_style#Levels_of_desired_details and Wikipedia:Wikipuffery. Per all of them, as well as WP:NPOV, we cannot add anything we like to an article. Everything that must be written must be neutrally worded, and not be appearing to be supporting the subject, or criticising it. More so, Wikipedia is not an arbitrary collection of information, and the articles must have a decent size corresponding roughly with the number and quality of references provided on them. An unreferences article like the one in concern cannot be expected to have a larger size than a well-written and sourced article with several of them. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 17:30, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
    • The parameters you just tagged: "decent size corresponding roughly with the number and quality of references provided on them", are pretty vague if you ask me. Harp on the specifications. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheShatadruSeth (talkcontribs) 17:36, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
      • Per WP:OR and WP:SIZE, you'll note that Original Research (or things not sourced, like the "best kept campus" line) cannot be added to an article. Anything that is not cited is liable to be removed. Also, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, which would necessarily imply that any information in an article that is not of relevance or importance to the article should be deleted (like the list of office bearers). Any information that is necessarily important for the article should be the only thing that should have been included. 17:56, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

Miss Bono's talk page, and my pages

Hello TheOriginalSoni,

As it seems that OMS has chosen the path of trolling, vandalism and sockpuppetry. I am concerned about attacks on Miss Bono's talk page in the next ten hours. I am grateful for any attention you can offer, and I appreciate your help protecting my pages and hers. Thank you. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:56, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

Sorry Jim. I just woke up, so I did not see your message. Do you still want protection on either of the pages? If so, I can ping a few admins and see what can be done. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 13:27, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
I didn't mean page protection but just human eyes watching. Let's wait and see. Thanks. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 14:53, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) are everywhere and are watching too.... And so is the NSA
:D jim, Don and Soni Thanks you guys!!!! all of you! Miss Bono (zootalk) 18:22, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
What's NSA?? Miss Bono (zootalk) 19:25, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
It is a joke, Miss Bono. The reference to the NSA, which was not serious, is to a U.S. government intelligence agency that monitors electronic communication looking for terrorists and so on. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 20:29, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

Suggestion

A few times you've made some statements that have been perceived as aggressive. I realize there may be a bit of a language gap and ideally everyone would be able to make suitable accommodations. I suggest, though, that it would be helpful if you would bear in mind that your chosen phrasing may have hostile connotations, in spite of your best intentions. You may want to compensate by tempering your message to a greater degree, or seek additional feedback on how your language can be interpreted. I believe some small adjustments will assist in avoiding misunderstandings. isaacl (talk) 02:05, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

I agree with your statement, and any help on the same on your side will be greatly appreciated. If you can also point out what exactly are you pointing to in the current matter? TheOriginalSoni (talk) 02:20, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
As I mentioned, there are various examples, but I'd rather not dredge them all up. I will highlight the discussion a few sections above: I think your use of "possibly misleading" was aggressive for a scenario where the person correctly described the timeline of events in question, allowing everyone to draw their own conclusions. The connotation of your phrasing is an accusation of deliberate falsehood, which is an unusually combative stance given that you weren't disputing the described facts of what occurred when. isaacl (talk) 05:19, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
I have sent you an email. Please check. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 07:06, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

  • Keφr, this is the most sensible way I can express my disagreement with your tagging. −1. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 12:01, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
    • User:TheOriginalSoni, this is the most sensible way I can express my disagreement with your untagging. −2. Keφr 12:24, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
      • Keφr, in all seriousness though, there are plenty of other similar templates which are used similarly. If the community so desires, I would 👍 Like a proposal which eliminates all or most of them. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 13:14, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
        • The fifth discussion ended in "no consensus". Do you think we will get there before the thirteenth? Keφr 17:08, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
          • @Kephir: I'm kindof hoping for a consensus to delete it before the singularity occurs. We wouldnt want the machines to say Dislike to everything we do. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 19:41, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
