BALLARAT RED DEVILS

Thanks again. I had some real trouble finding basic colour codes for the football kits but got there in the end. Is there a page on just colours not kit designs??

I want to change the soccer ball logo to the club logo. How do i do this??

Also someone has included 3 comments at the top of the page;

1.The tone or style. I HAVE WRITTEN THE PAGE AS A GENERAL INFOMATION.

2.A fansite. AGAIN I HAVE READ PLENTY OF PAGES IN THE PAST AND ESPECIALLY OVER THE LAST WEEK AND THIS IS NOT A FANSITE IT IS ATRUE HISTORY OF THE CLUB. MANY OTHER SITES MENTION, SPONSORS,"THE BEST FANS IN THE LEAGUE","GREAT PLAYERS WE HAVE", I HAVE DONE NONE OF THIS.

3.A conflict of intrest. AND AGAIN THIS IS COMPLETLY WRONG AS THIS IS THE CLUB AND IT'S HISTORY

Can you please help me to understand what i am to do regarding these matters. Please can you read the SANDBOX. I think it is ready to be a PROPER page now.

It looks like you're almost there. I believe the reason for the fansite tag is because of the some of the words that you have used. Remember, all articles have to be written neutrally, so words like "brilliant" and "astonishing" should probably be removed. As for the other two tags, I suggest you ask the editor who added them, Orangemike. Your article is improving and I think the thing that would push it over the top are some third-party references. Newspaper coverage, magazine interviews, and other such items are a good way to start. Finally, please remember that typing in ALL CAPS makes your messages hard to read and makes people think you are yelling. Cheers! TNX-Man 14:54, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

To change the colors of the uniforms, you need to change the hex codes for the colors currently listed in the infobox. For example, the shorts color for kit1 is listed as FFFFFF, which is black. To change the color, you'll need to enter a different code. As for the soccer ball image, that is also listed in the infobox. The image parameter currently lists image:soccerball.svg. Uploading a New Article

I want to contribute a living person's biography to Wikipedia. It's already typed and formatted (in a Word document, not in Wikipedia). It meets all the requirements and I've read all the do's and don'ts, and references are included in the article as well, so it's ready to go. Well, first type in the name of the person in the search bar on the left. If it doesn't take you to an article, then you can create an article at Some Person (for example). If there is already an article by that name, however, you'll have to name your article Some Person (author) (or some other modifier). There are a lot more tips in this guide also. Mate thanks again for your help. A pity some were not as helpfull as you are. I found the colour codes page thanks, but i can not understand how to change the logo to our club logo. I have tyied to copy and then paste the logo in to the infobox but it will not copy. I have tried to write the jpg code but it will not work. I'm sure that you can and will show me a very simple way.

In order to get the image on to Wikipedia, you must first upload to the site. The guide for this can be found at WP:UPLOAD. Images (at least to me) are some of toughest things with which to deal on this site. Each image that is uploaded must either be free- or fair-use. Again, the guide I mentioned should have more. Once the image is uploaded, you must simply put the file name for the image in the infobox. Cheers! TNX-Man 20:03, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Biography

The biography I want to contribute to Wikipedia is ready to go. I did a search, and there is no entry for this person. He is an published author, a physicist, a person from Poland. The article meets all the Wikipedia guidelines. I would like to upload the article from my computer so I don't have to type it again into Wikipedia. Great! When you did the search for the person's name, you should have come across a screen that says something like "This page does not exist. To create this page click (some red link)". Click on the red link and copy/paste from your Word document to the page. Click save. You're done! Let me know if you run into any issues with the process. TNX-Man 20:13, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

question about new page

I was wondering if you could be more specific about your concerns. I read about how to write new articles and thought what I wrote about Health Management Resources was neutral and very well referenced. It is well referenced, but it still seems to be promoting a product. Remember, articles should be written like an encyclopedia entry, not a press release or promo. I think what it comes down to is this: if you strip away all of the material and references that do not directly deal with HMR, would it still be a neutral, well-referenced article? If there is an article about HMR, the core material about it cannot be promotional. I hope this helps. TNX-Man 20:15, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Felidae Conservation Fund Edits and Decline

I am wondering specifically what is wrong with the article: it gives a history and it is not an advertisement and has legitimate sources from magazines, although the site is listed as an external source. What parts? How can it be changed?

I declined this submission because the article reads like an advertisement. Remember, all articles on Wikipedia must be written from a neutral point of view and cannot promote any organization. Please be more specific about concerns. For the structure, I looked at American Red Cross Wikipedia entry (segmenting the entry by the major areas of services provided, and the programs under each major area of service). I'm still working on it. But could you please be more specific? Well, it looks like you're making a good start. I'm going to remove the neutrality tag, as those issues have been addressed. However, I still get an advertise-y sense from the article. Don't misunderstand me, it's not anything overt, it's just a sense of . . . well . . . brochure-dom? I can't really put my finger on it. One good thing to do is include more coverage from independent reliable sources. I'm sorry I couldn't be more specific, but I'd be happy to help you out with any issues you may run across. Cheers! Felidae Conservation Fund Edits/Decline continued

The fact is is that it isn't an advertisement: There is no "Support Us" or anything like that. Cheetah Conservation Fund has a similar page, so the declination I really can't agree with. The article states the Mission, the History/how was founded, the projects involved in, and external sources which included legitimate outside magazine articles.

An advertisement encourages people to directly support. This does NOT do that. I have to disagree with your declination of the article.

I would like you to cite something specific that sounds like an advertisement, because I do not see where you are talking about.

I think where we disagree is the idea of advertising. When I read the article, it reads to me like it was copied directly from a press release or official website. Advertising doesn't have to directly ask for support. Advertising can also promote a product or organization by painting it in the best possible light. Again, I encourage you to read this guide to a neutral point of view. Also, if you make a claims like "innovative education and outreach" or "(fostering) global cooperation among scientists, conservationists, governments, and environmental NGOs", cite independent reliable sources to back it up. Edit Errors

An article submitted and approved earlier this week (biography of Christopher Jargocki) looks like it may have been altered. I did some minor edits to it; specifically the external links no longer worked and I have fixed them. My only connection to the article Engraved (band) is from taking content that another editor had tried to add to the article engraving, deleting the content of that article. You put a hold on an a suggested AfC (Mildred Persinger) for the reason that you wanted the article rewritten more like an encyclopedia article. I did this, as this can be difficult for new users of Wikipedia, especially with the addition of a COI. --KP Botany (talk) 10:54, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Kudos for your work, the article looks very good. I've added a few minor things (categories, persondata, etc.). When I reviewed the article, it came across as very promotional, but that has been addressed. Now that the article is live, anyone can work on expanding it. TNX-Man 15:27, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Truthfully I couldn't even read it as was, but she did seem to be interesting and notable, and I didn't think the author would be able to put together an encyclopedia-appropriate article from what was offered. It's just that from the information about etiquette that I got the impression you should only post to a talk page if you want to suggest edits. I don't want to do that -- I only need more info.

I think the best suggestion I can make concerns the tone of the article. The article reads very much like a promotion/brochure. Look at this guide for suggestions on how to correct that. Also, you've cited sources (which is good), but you need to integrate citations in to the article. This guide can help you there. Best, TNXMan 14:19, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

No problem. It wasn't going to be created through AfC without major improvements. As an aside, the reason AfC uses talk pages is so that anonymous users can contribute articles. IP addresses can create new talk pages, but not new article/project pages. Sometimes you get contributions like the one you saw and sometimes you get very good articles. AfC challenge

Hi Tnxman, I'm just back from holidays and I notice that it's 12 Feb when we decided to close the competition. (Also there's an outstanding review needed). It's looking better (good job!). I guess the question I have now is this: can you point me to (not self-published) sources that describe the company? I see (first-party references to the weight studies and references that support the science, but I don't see any independent third-party references that cover the company. Okay! I looked at the site. It's a good reference, but only for the "Comment" section where they review the program. If you wanted to say something like "Acoording to bestdietforme.com, HMR ranks as one of the top two fasting programs in the country" or some other quote from the Comment section, that would be a great reference (independent, third-party, etc.). In order to move a page, click the "move" tab at the top of the page. This will allow you to move the article from your user space to the main Wikipedia area. In order to add categories, you'll need to find which ones apply to your article first. Check out this guide to find them. Once you have, add [[Category:desired category]] to the bottom of the page. Hmm. I can see the article at the link I provided above. If you mean seeing the page on a search engine (Google, etc.), pages usually take a few days before they are indexed. When you say "you're the only one who can see it", to what are you referring? TNX-Man 20:35, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

I can only see it on my computer. If someone else goes on their computer to search for HMR on Wikipedia it comes up that no such page exists. If I search for HMR on my computer I can find the article. Weightdoc (talk) 20:42, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

I am not sure about the printing. There could be a variety of issues that cause that, from your computer to your browser to your printer. Sorry. :( I have moved your article to the less clumsily titled Health Management Resources. Not only does it sound better, it should provide a more natural search term. Hi again. Just wondering if you can help me out with something. I looked at other sites - such as Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig - and noticed that they have a much more in-depth description of the actual program (and not referenced with outside sources). Hmm. It appears that User:Strikeout Sister has done some copyediting to the page. Since she is the one who made the edits, she is probably the best person with whom to discuss your concerns. My guess would be that she is concerned about an appearance of advertising. I have no intention of SPAMMING Wikipedia. If I made a mistake let me know and I will fix it ASAP. I read the guides already and to my knowledge have followed it precisely.

This comes right out of Wikipedia's policies.

My UserPage is writen from a factual and neatral point of view. No where in there do I say "I'm the best" or any other promotional language.

it could appear that this article is an advertising because it contains mostly facts, which are very colorful and unusual for the median type of living. However this is part of an Artist's life and ONLY proof of his/her/their reputation and artistic achievements.
Under the Press Release center could be found hundreds of independant press sources like newspapers, magazines, radio and TV staions from all over the world; The Library of Congress Sound Reference Center shuld also serve as a quite independant information source, couldn't it?; or may be the Hannover State University of Music and Drama website; or the 8 released CDs and the critics on them... I'm not sure what you mean. I didn't see where you were ever warned for vandalism. I would recommend, however, that you read the guide on reliable sources and the info on a neutral point of view. It seems that the articles to which you have recently contributed could be written in a more encyclopedia tone, which is a great way for a new contributor to learn how Wikipedia works. Hi and a little help.

Hi Tnxman307, I was wondering what I should do to fix the Daily Jolt Wiki page so that it is less "promotional" so that it isn't speedy deleted. Obviously the format of the current entry needs work (ok a lot of work), but in terms of content could you possibly explain what is so promotional about it so that I can fix it. I would appreciate it as this is my first attempt at making an entry and I wouldn't want to keep making the same mistakes.

I'm glad to hear you're interested in improving the article. There are couple of great places to get started. First of all, check out the your-first-article guide. Also read the notability guideline. Basically, articles have to be written from a neutral point of view and must be backed up by independent, reliable sources. A good example is the article about the webcomic Ctrl+Alt+Del. It doesn't promote the website, but simply describes it. It also demonstrates that other people/organizations have covered it (see the reference section at the bottom).
So where can you go from here? You can work on the article in a sandbox, which is a place where you can work without worrying about the article being deleted. There are only a few corrections I would make. Instead of <references/>, I would use {{reflist}} in your Notes section. It produces the same result, but it makes the text smaller and doesn't take up as much room. I would also remove the paragraph right above the Notes section, as it seems to have little to do with ProScan and may be a little advert-ish. You may also want to include an infobox to provide details. Finally, you can remove header at the very top of the page, as Wikipedia automatically provides one for you. I respectfully disagree. I saw the edit as a sarcastic comment, possibly by a disgruntled customer. The edit summary I used did say "vandalism", but the template I left on the user's talk page was a reminder to properly cite any claims inserted into articles. I would contend that comments like that are unclear with regards to their intent. Again, the message I left on the user's talk page did not mention vandalism, rather a reminder to properly source claims like the one made. The message is much more visible than the edit summary and was not intended to assume bad faith. If I had assumed bad faith, I would have posted to ANI in big, bold letters with a blink tag: if you're going to go, go all out!

Well, there are a couple of things to point out. First of all, it appears that User:Nouse4aname has redirected the page. Clicking on Alex Gaskarth now takes you to the article on the band All Time Low. This is usually done when there is not enough info to support a full article about someone who is related to/involved with a group/subject that already has an article. For example, Malia Obama redirects to Barack Obama. If you feel there is enough info in independent reliable sources to support an article, I would suggest creating an account so you can work on it. There are also several other benefits.

Need help with an article

Hi, Tnxman307, You recently reviewed an article on ProtoShare and I'm having trouble trying to make the appropriate edits for approval. I have read the reliable resources and verifiability several times now and I thought I was in compliance, but even after I made some minor adjustments, another reviewer said I didn't make any improvements. I'm seeing other software pages (like Visio, OmiGraffle, and Axure) that only reference themselves (granted Microsoft is a story all in its own) when I have referenced other sources. I'm just a bit lost. I want to create an informative page on an online software tool that is established in the industry. Please help!

Are there any independent reviews of the software? The Wikinomics interview is a great example of what's needed. One or two more sources like that and you'll be good to go. The article looks very good. Eu looks like it is in the correct place. Here are the suggestions I would make otherwise.
I don't believe there are enough people on the list to warrant subsections by letter. As long as they are in alphabetical order by first name, it should be OK.
I would move the link to March (disambiguation) to the top of the page. Otherwise, the See Also looks good.
Finally, I would remove the redlinks until an article exists. The link can be readded after the article is crea. All in all, this looks like a very good disambig page. On Demand Analysis

Your argument that adding On Demand Analysis doesn't make too much sense to me. All of the tools that you have listed are, essentially, advertisements for that particular product. You go to their wiki page, and they have a link to their website. Plus, by not adding On Demand Analysis to your list, you are not creating a more complete list of business intelligence tools. You would, therefore, be only listing the "bigger" companies, which is subjective in by itself. If you'll notice, each link on the Business intelligence tools has an associated article, which is why I've removed the link to OnDemand Analysis. Wikipedia is not a link repository or a directory. Actually, the orphan tag simply means that few, if any, other articles link to Alix Pryde. You can see which articles do link to the article by clicking the "What links here" link on the left hand side of the article. To remove the tag, find related articles and integrate a link to Alix Pryde. However, don't simply put links everywhere willy-nilly. It's best to work them in to existing articles. Articles for creation KHIT-FM

Hi, I'm not sure if you created an article for this station per aFc (your username shows up as creating the talk page). The problem with that creation is that the station already had an article. When the call sign was changed from KXOB to KHIT-FM a new user requested a new page when he didn't know the WP:WPRS naming convention policy which is to move the existing article to the new call sign (so KXOB should have been edited to reflect the new call sign and then moved to KHIT-FM). And since the 2 articles have concurrent edit histories a history merge could not be done by the administrator. I had no choice but to move the page you created to "KHIT (FM)" and make it a redirect and move the existing page to "KHIT-FM" so now the edit histories are split (noted on the talk page). So if somebody nominates the creation of another radio or TV station page could you please make sure there isn't already an article that hasn't been moved. I understand and agree with you that we cannot be posting information verbatim from websites but this site is owned by me and the article is written by me. Well, there are a couple of things to mention here. First of all, Wikipedia does not republish material. If you would like to write an article that uses your website as a source, that would be great. One of things Wikipedia needs is multiple independent reliable sources, so your website can't be the only source used, even if it is the jumping-off point. I would suggest (since you have now created an account) working on the article in a private sandbox. That way you can integrate other sources into the article and get outside opinions before moving the article to the mainspace. If you have questions, I'd be happy to help you out. The best place for quotations is on our sister project, wikiquote. There really isn't a place for general quotations in articles here, unless they can be supported by independent reliable sources. Well, can't YOU tell I'm all at sea.....I cannot even put an answer to your reply in the newbie q&a section ( thanks very much for the fast response btw.! ), just don't know how, but then I'm ancient and not at all computer wise, not easy as an old dog to learn to jump through hoops with a triple somersault to finish off ;0). To the point: the article in question is on German author 'Else Ury', I read her books as a child, came accross something last night that prompted me to look her up and although perhaps more of interest to Germans I thought it was sad exactly how short the English entry was in comparison and was then informed by my 'Beloved' that I could do something about it if I so wished. I so wish and here I am but it's an uphill struggle, worse than Mount E.! So the best advice you can muster would be much appreciated and I shall respond - and thank you - here if that's ok unless it is preferred in the newbie q&a section although, unless I start a new question which would be inappropriate, I still don't know how. Well, first of all, Wikipedia discourages people from writing about themselves because there is an inherent conflict of interest. This page on autobiographies has more info on the subject. Secondly, Wikipedia depends on independent reliable sources to support its info. If you can point out some of those to support your AFC request, it would go a long way. There are a few points to remember. First of all, all articles on Wikipedia must be written neutrally and cannot promote or advertise. Secondly, all articles must be supported by independent reliable sources. And finally, I would encourage you to read the tips on biographies and writing your first article. It's not a problem. If you're doing new page patrol, it's always best to take a moment to review the criteria for speedy deletion if you're not sure. Also, be sure to check the related articles to see if there any other options besides deletion. I think the best idea here is to bring up the list on the talk page of The 39 Clues and see if there is any consensus to merge the info to the parent article. Please explain...

Please make the case to me that the following pages/organizations have enough notoriety to have acceptable pages, yet my organization does not:

How is it that they are not in violation of the blatant advertising guideline and yet we are? I am crying foul here. Please explain to me the difference because I don't see one and I feel my nonprofit is being unfairly pegged as advertising, when other pages that are like ours, such as the two above, do so and are not penalized.

Your article was deleted because it appeared to be advertising. Remember, all articles must be written from a neutral point of view and cannot promote any company or product. Also, all articles must be supported by reliable sources that provide in-depth coverage from (an) independent author(s). Finally, all articles are judged on their own merits. If another article has issues, those can be addressed. The state of those articles does not have bearing on yours. If you would like to work on improving your article, I suggest starting in a sandbox and moving the article to the mainspace when it's ready. That should prevent deletion. The Helga Project

I don't understand why this page was deleted. It provides information on an open source software project being worked on at Hampshire College in Massachusetts. I just heard about it today, when an artist acquaintance mentioned the page was gone. There is no advertising involved. People who are trying to find out about this software project have been inconvenienced as a result of this action. Did you object to the references to professional studios which might be using this software? Seems a bit rash to just delete the entire page. I can't seem to find any discussion of this action.

I believe you are referring to the (now deleted) article The Helga Project. The article was deleted because it was advertising or promoting a software product. Where is it written that speedy and afd can't overlap? I speedy articles that are at afd all the time and almost never get complaints. You mean to tell me you'd rather let Andolini's Pizzeria sit at afd for five days or even longer, when it's blatantly spammy and should be shot on sight? Actually, Andolini's Pizzeria does contain claims of importance (largest pizza size in Oklahoma, mentions in newspapers). Are they really borderline mentions? Yeah, probably. You could apply for the article to be undeleted, however, I think there is a better solution. First, you'll need to register an account or use an account you already have. Secondly, ask an admin (me or any other admin to restore the content to a sandbox where you can work on the article. There are several improvements that need to be made. I am editor at huWiki. Just used an image of Tenochtitlan from the enWiki MediaCommons. The picture is from someone named Dr. Atl, from 1930. According to the licensing info used on commons, the file is a painting. Since both the licensing info and the comment describe it as a painting, that would be the description I would use. Notability is one of the keys to having an article on Wikipedia. A subject (person, concept, entity, etc.) is considered notable if it has received significant coverage in independent reliable sources. Userspace is something like this talk page or my user page. It's not the main part of Wikipedia, but it can be edited in the same fashion. If you'd like, you work on improving your article in your userspace before moving it to the main part of Wikipedia. Americana Phonic and audio of Common Sense

Hi, I am pretty new to Wikipedia, and am still figuring it out.

I think the link to audio of Common Sense by Thomas Paine deserves consideration for inclusion on the page. It's a very high quality narration, and is provided free of charge. It has been available on Americana Phonic since 2007. I have kept adding it, not to be a troublemaker, but in the hopes of being able to contact the person who controls the page to make a case for including this link.

Family the web series - deletion

Hello! Thank you for taking time looking at my entry on Family: The Web Series.

Because of the Kinsey Institute's request to add it to a collection, and because the Seattle Times article was a recent, non-advertorial and extensive feature based on the series' examination of a notable sociological phenomenon and lifestyle, I believe that it meets notability (and verifiability) criteria.

I wonder if you have a moment to guide me on how -- given the series' attention by reliable sources and organizations such as these, and given the concise and factual nature of my Wikipedia submission -- I would begin to overcome the grounds on which it was deleted so quickly.

The easiest way to do that is to work on the article in a sandbox. For example, something like User:BWDP/Sandbox would be a place where you could work on creating/improving articles before moving them to the mainspace. novoseek page deleted

Hi,

Recently i figure that the page for novoseek was deleted based on G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion. However going through Wikki help to know further reason y saw that in this case it said "Note that simply having a company or product as its subject does not qualify an article for this criterion" and taking into account that GoPubMed or Hubmed has their own pages is not clear to me the reason to delete it.

However I will appreciate if you could let me know wether I should rewrite the page our I could edit the delated page (since as read on the wiki page the content has not been lost) to put a more neutral text.

No problem! Some userboxes automatically place a page in a category. For example, the user box {{User csuf}} automatically places your user page in the category "Wikipedians by alma mater: California State University, Fullerton". However, since that category didn't exist yet, I had to create it, which I did by copy/pasting from a related category and changing the names. Also, the link in the userbox code was wrong, but I fixed it. So now everything should be kosher. Let me know if there's anything else with which I can help. TNXMan 16:55, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Actually, you did a good job, and it helped me to see how my job was not so good. I was able to follow your changes, and so see where I erred. It is not so clear, from Wikipedia help documentation, how a UserBox should be created. So, I tried the copy and past that is suggested on the page which lists all the UserBoxes that have been created for US colleges and universities. I see that the {{EDUCAT}} is used, so now I know more about the process of creating a UserBox. Thank you very much for your kind assistance with this matter. William R. Do you have a personal grudge against Syed Ahmed? You seem relentless in your efforts to ensure a negative and defamatory slant on this article. Quite frankly I'm surprised. Perhaps this is just an automated response from twinkle and not your aim - however given your persistence in the matter I now have my doubts. I don't know Twinkle (yet), but I would like to know if you have set it up to watch Mr Ahmed's profile specifically and if so why.

Like I said in my edit summary, if you think a quote in the article is libellous, take it up with source. Wikipedia is only quoting what was already published in the source. I think I could turn your question around and ask you why you are bound and determined to remove any hint of a blemish from the article.
