Un café parisien[edit]

Dear Vami,

Thanks for the Parisian coffie! As you could see on my user page, I am a convinced Brucknerian since more than 50 years. Some years ago, only a biography page, pages on Bruckner's symphonies and a few other pages on his other works existed on both the English and French Wikipedias.

For this reason I updated the existing pages on both sites and created pages on the English Wikipedia for the other works of the composer. So, all his works have currently a dedicated page, except the small piano and organ works, which have a synoptic page.

The last three weeks I have indeed translated the 110 pages on Bruckner works, which did not yet exist on the French site, so that the Wikipedia of my native language has now also a dedicated page on all Bruckner's works, except (again) the small piano and organ works, which have a synoptic page.

Talk pages[edit]

I appreciate your clean-up of article talk pages. Having said that:

  • Why a talk-page header at all for articles not likely to be discussed controversely?
  • Why Translated before projects?
  • How do you arrive at stub for an article such as Lioba Braun? A stub - for me - is a one-liner, such as Theater Münster (going to be expanded, not an article that translates about all the model has to offer, + added references.

I will supply the infobox now ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:33, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

To my surprise, the infobox was there. - I changed the talk, to show BLP as very first thing, - revert if you think it doesn't work. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:45, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Danke.
  • The Talkheader is to give something to go before the banners for special projects so that other editors don't move them.
  • Knowing that an article is translated and may need to be looked over for authenticity is more important than knowing that it is associated and/or connected to a Wikipedia project like the 10k Challenge.
  • Primarily, under five citations for an article. My interpretation of what a stub is being different from that of other editors has previously led to dispute and I am considering amending it though I deeply disagree. IMO: Credibility > Length
Huh, I must've have just totally lost the wind from my sails and made a mistake there. To be honest, I've thought about discontinuing Killing Categories or this branch of it because I have lost a large amount of spirit for it, the momentum I had previously, and because I have come into conflict with several users, some Admins, in the course of the adventure. –Vami_IV✠ 15:58, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I now feel like I was part of killing your spirit, sorry, sorry, sorry. - Just to avoid disappointment:
  • I feel that talk page header is a waste of room, and of readers' attention, unless it's a contentious page. Most users know what an article talk page is without being told on every single one. I also feel that it talks to reader like to a child: please behave.
  • I feel that BLP needs to go on top, which speaks for the projects first.
  • "translated" tells me: notable subject in a different language, so induces more trust than an article from scratch.
  • I usually let the extra projects follow translation.
  • Stub: I agree with quality over quantity, so think two good sources are better than 10 not-so-good ones. Bayreuth Festival and Großes Sängerlexikon are as solid as you can get. I was asked to write an article on a historic opera singer which had only the latter source. So I did. One source, - the other broken as of this week, to the dismay of project opera, still start class and DYK. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:38, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

1511 Idrija earthquake[edit]

Hello, I have some comments about the changes that were made. First, I have reverted them because while a few sources were added and the death toll changed, there was not enough text added to the article to clearly state why the figures differ so drastically. I also have issues with your edit summaries. I don't think they sufficiently explained the changes. I hope you can see that it's quite a shocking difference to go from 15 to more than 10,000. I would say that in cases like this the discrepancy can be explained in the article, rather than just dumping one source for another with zero explanation. Dawnseeker2000 17:59, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Source misrepresentation[edit]

In support of my stance on this, I checked one of the sources that you added that was apparently supposed to support the claim of 12,000 deaths from the event ("Geophysical evidence of recent activity of the Idrija fault, Kanomlja, NW Slovenia"), but it does not say that. You really need to read the source prior to adding it any any text to the articles. There is far too much corruption of the articles going on in Wikipedia. We don't need to make ourselves look foolish. I hope you understand where I'm coming from. Dawnseeker2000 18:08, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Rating the article "Talk:Anneliese Brost Musikforum Ruhr" as low importance[edit]

You have rated the article Rating the article "Talk:Anneliese Brost Musikforum Ruhr" as low importance. Can you please explain why? I don't understand the Low/Medium/High importance at all. I think it depends on the reader if an article is High or low importance. Is this rating for the whole article or for only for the Talk page? But even for that: Talk pages are very important for authors/readers. And if it is empty: you can put it to an category empty. Same for quality – I see that this article is short and can be extended... but still it does not mean low importance. --GodeNehler (talk) 04:50, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The "Importance" of an article is relative to the WikiProject, according to how many people daily will see the page. Typically, "High" or "Top" importance articles are ones central to the topic, in this case the nation, peoples, and culture of Germany, while "Mid" to "Low" are less so. You don't really have to worry about this, however, because Importance is fairly unimportant on Wikipedia. The important part is the quality of the article. –Vami_IV✠ 05:55, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

WiR talk pages[edit]

Hallo, I see that you rearranged the banners at Talk:Heidi Mottram. There are a few points here:

  1. It's conventional to put the WiR banner below the other project banners: I'm not sure if it's written anywhere, but what the prolific @SusunW: does is good enough as a model - see Talk:Rhondalee Braithwaite-Knowles
  2. Heidi Mottram is not an artist. Please take more care when changing banners added by other editors
  3. I still think that as her major notability is as a water industry leader that's an appropriate Wikiproject to add. If you are going to remove banners added by other editors, please explain why in an edit summary, rather than the inaccurate and general "Talk page header changes " (they aren't headers).
  4. As the article went live 34 mins before midnight local time on 31st Oct I'm not sure whether it was justified to change the banner from "00" to "60": again, please explain when you are going against other editors' decisions. (If making several possibly controversial changes at once, split them into a series of separate edits so that you can explain each one in a separate edit summary)

Thanks for your work in contributing to the encyclopedia and to WiR. PamD 08:11, 2 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your contributions. I must note, however, that I agree with PamD. Please stop moving the WiR banner to the top of the page. It should be below the WikiProjects. In addition, placing "photo needed|y" after the WikiProject banner, simply means that someone else must come along and categorize the photo request as being one for a person. The designation {{Image requested|people}} prevents people from having to do the double task of recategorizing what type of photo is needed. If you have doubts, you can review the discussion archive on the topic on the WiR talk page. SusunW (talk) 19:05, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I use the |needs-photo=y parameter in Template:WikiProject Biography, which places the request in Category:Wikipedia requested images of people according to previous parameters in the Bio template (Here is evidence of this). I will cease moving Template:WIR-60 to the top of talk pages. –Vami_IV✠ 19:13, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please would you emphasise her authorship of the new species, Quesnelia alborosea (in J. Torrey Bot. Soc. 139(1): 37. 2012). If it hadn't been for the IPNI link I don't think she would meet the criteria for WP:ACADEMIC. My view is that any person who names a species new to science is as notable as the creature itself, as their name will forever be associated with it. However, that's not everyone's view, so the more you can add to show her notability above general professional teaching status, the better. I'm not convinced that the reference you cite as being a professor indicates anything more than she is a university teacher (ie a professor in the basic sense, not a distinguished 'Professor', as defined in WP:NACADEMIC.

Your dyk[edit]

What is a QPQ? –Vami_IV✠ 10:50, 20 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
qpq is short for qui pro quo, the Latin phrase meaning that you have to do a review for a subnission, unless you have no more than five DYK credits. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:02, 20 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm still lost here. –Vami_IV✠ 14:05, 20 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
At DYK, you get 5 'free' nominations, but after that you are required to review someone else's submission before submitting one yourself (to stop nominations piling up). I am pretty sure you haven't used up your 5 freebies though, based on your earlier comments to me in the section above, so I've ticked this one off. It is helpful to note on your DYK nomination under the QPQ section: "no QPQ nessessary: second nomination" or something similar. Cheers. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 19:31, 20 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You should have given the Europe merits award, which you kindly gave me, also to yourself, or do I have to do it? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:00, 20 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I thought it would be pretty shallow to award myself a barnstar. –Vami_IV✠ 14:01, 20 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Barnstar of European Merit

TWC: Prize claims[edit]

Vami, according to the contest rules to win the top prizes you need to have created a minimum of one article from each continent. I believe you missed three of them and I'm pretty sure you weren't aware of the ruling. As you've worked so hard I'll waiver it if you can create those three articles needed.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:25, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Do I need to do this for all my occupation prize claims? –Vami_IV✠ 08:39, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I can't find any mention of this rule in the rules or prizes page(s). Dr. Blofeld (talk), may I see this rule? –Vami_IV✠ 08:50, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's stated on the rules page and geo and general articles section of the prize claims page. The minimum requirement for diversity. Not for the occupation prizes, just for the general large prizes and you finished near the top on that.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:56, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm only in the running for Most Articles in South America, Caribbean, and Islands. I revoked my bid for most articles overall a couple weeks or so into the competition because I knew I could not win it. Check the Prize Claims page. –Vami_IV✠ 08:58, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Andra Whiteside: Oceania (needs 30 bytes more for 1000)
  2. Suzanne Landau: Asia
  3. Izza Génini: Africa (needs 230 bytes)

Not for regional prizes, the Main general prizes for the contest. You finished in the top 5 so to get your money on that...♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:53, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Loud and clear. Arican and an Asian coming right up. I'll try to make their articles as high quality as possible. –Vami_IV✠ 09:54, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that, I know you would have done them during the contest had you been aware of the ruling.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:21, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Give for the noblest of efforts your pow'rs;
Blest and be blest, is the law of love.
