Platform→Platforms parm

Hello, I noticed your AWB edits include deleting a "platform" parameter, which I see is still in the template as "platforms". Apparently you are deleting encyclopedic information? Prhartcom (talk) 13:27, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for spotting it. Its because both Platform and Platforms are allowed in the infobox. I'll fix the AWB code so it checks for both. - X201 (talk) 13:32, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Well, you should now go back and restore that parameter to those articles which you have deleted this information. Will you do this? Prhartcom (talk) 13:34, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
It will only be articles that use platform, instead of platforms. I'll run a scan if the database and compile a list of articles that use platform and sort any affected. - X201 (talk) 13:43, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
@Prhartcom: I've checked all the edits of everyone taking part in this cleanup and only one other article was affected. - X201 (talk) 14:51, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Good news; glad nothing was lost. Cheers; going through what must be 20-30K articles even with AWB must be a job. Prhartcom (talk) 19:20, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

Edge Games COI

I might be misunderstanding the context here, but when you say "Now if I'm correct, and you are either Mr Langdell, a relative or an agent or employee of Edge Games, you do not have to declare your interest, but it would create a bucket load of goodwill and make this whole process easier if you are and did.", hasn't the user already gone beyond that? They haven't merely declined to comment on a possible conflict of interest, they've explicitly said that they are "not affiliated with the topic". If this is a lie on their part, they're in breach of Wikimedia's terms of use. --McGeddon (talk) 09:03, 24 June 2014 (UTC)

This has been going on so long I forgot about that bit, thank you for pointing it out, have edited my comments on the Edge page accordingly. I think its fairly obvious that the involved editors are having trouble believing that Vertisis is not a duck. Because of good faith and giving him/her/it a fair representation and a chance to voice their opinion of the article, I'm willing to suspend my disbelief and work with them on any sane suggestion for improvement, rather than have them blocked and them turn up in a range of accounts to nudge and hack the article to remove any critical comment. I think Czar's, PresN's and my comments were just three people needing to vent. - X201 (talk) 09:43, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
No problem. Might be easier just to delete your comments since nobody has replied to them yet. (And if you're going for full on grin-and-bear-it AGF in the hope that Vertisis will behave in response, the "I assume you are lying" Scooby Doo gag rather undermines that.) --McGeddon (talk) 09:57, 24 June 2014 (UTC
Isn't there some point where the duck test applies, or some such similar policy? The SPA has a clear agenda with this article. -- ferret (talk) 23:27, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

Dreamfall Chapters

Hey. Since you've recently edited the Dreamfall Chapters article, I was wondering whether you could provide a third opinion on the dispute I am currently having with another editor on that article's talk page. I am not asking you to support either side, just maybe give us a new perspective on the issue. Thanks in advance! --Koveras  17:22, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Subway Surfers

Hi, Mr.X201.I'm Ashacekar.Yesterday I edited the subway surfers page and u reverted it back.I'm sorry if u did not like my content.Your fellow competitors wikia have many information regarding Subway Surfers. In your page,we will find title of version but no version names avaliable and same is with characters section.I provided u many information. If u don't like it's presentation then just change tabular form into simple words.U just don't correct things but revert it back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ‎Ashacekar (talkcontribs) 08:53, 19 November 2014

Wikipedia has a policy on what types of information can be added to articles (WP:NOT), lists of game locations falls under that. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, there are many things that, whilst relevant for Wikia, are not relevant for an encyclopaedia, indiscriminate lists in video games is one of the things WP tries to avoid. WP articles exist to give a broad explanation of a video game, minute detail is usually left to other sources. - X201 (talk) 09:12, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Dreamcast is mighty close to being promoted to GA already, but do any of your Edge magazines have useful material you believe the article might benefit from? I'm asking in the interest of comprehensiveness. Thanks in advance,TheTimesAreAChanging (talk) 06:11, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

MotorStorm updates and servers shutdown

Hi, i noticed you rejected my edits for the MotorStorm page at least two times, but you also removed info not added by me, which also written in the page for the game sequel, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, and generally most PS3 exclusive titles which saw the closure of the multiplayer modes.

You said that forums are not reliable sources, however that's the only source available, as they discuss about the availability of the game updates, the attempts at getting in touch with the developers (there are links to Playstation Blog pages with people getting responses and updates about the server status) and the return of the game updates. The first reply is on page 2 of that "source". I can personally confirm that the game updates were still downloadable as of February/March 2014, and they're probably still available, as they're required for DLC compatibility, and DLC is available on Playstation Store, for a price. I just wanted to make the edit as the game used an old system to get the game updates. 99% of the games have the updates available on the main Playstation Network servers, while some of the earlier games, like that game, Resistance 1, and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, had the updates on separate servers, and when they went down, they took the patches away.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.180.0.228 (talkcontribs) 22:41, 2 January 2015‎

Edge 2002

Hi, can you help me with sourcing this claim from Edge found on two locations in Wikipedia for the Elite article?

Edge Retrospective awards In a December 2002 retro gaming special, Edge retrospectively awarded ten-out-of-ten ratings to two titles released before the magazine's launch:

 • Elite (originally released in 1984)

Elite (video game)#Reception The game was retrospectively awarded 10/10 by the multi-format magazine Edge—together with only 2 other games — Preceding unsigned comment added by SHOlafsson (talkcontribs) 16:43, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

No, its not acceptance. I've tried to help you make this article a good Wikipedia article, and I realise you don't want that help. I urge you to go to WT:VG and ask them to point out to you what is wrong with the article. They are the people who made the "stupid rules". Good luck with the article. - X201 (talk) 16:34, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Not sure what you mean by "more central", the image is in the centre of the infobox. - X201 (talk) 09:51, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

GTA 4

Why are you removing official system requirements from its article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sk2257682 (talkcontribs) 12:11, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Because the WikiProject Video games members have built a consensus agreement that System requirements should only be mentioned in articles if the requirements are especially notable - See point number 12 on the WP:VGSCOPE section of the guidelines. Also, please read WP:3RR, as you have already broken it and are liable to get your account blocked if you revert the GTA IV article again. - X201 (talk) 12:31, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

On calming waters

(This is just my reading of the situation and an attempt to calm the waters) Izno, I think what Soetermans is complaining about is that he was asking for people to express their interpretation of phrases like "Neutral and accurate", instead you've focussed on dismantling his comment, rather than just add your own opinion of what "Neutral and accurate" means. - X201 (talk) 06:55, 8 March 2015 (UTC)

Part of any discussion should be advancing a positive message ("I am for this") as well disagreeing with a disagree-ee's message ("I am not for that"). In defense of performing the second action, this is a tried-and-true style for any discussion (and is especially desired in a debate forum or competition). It helps to clarify predominantly where differences lie as well as to advance the most logical points in the discussion (which sometimes may be in the form of the positive message and sometimes the other). In both of his separate questions I advanced my own message and disagreed with his own. (In fact, I only disagreed with his w.r.t. "encyclopedic understanding".)

Lastly, Soertermans did not advance a neutral question, especially in respect to "encyclopedic understanding". I would be more agreeable to the notion that he was only looking for outside opinions if he had made his first question less pointed, as he did in the second section "neutral and accurate". --Izno (talk) 01:13, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

Remove all the templates you want, but it is your responsibility to keep the links, not others'. Richard75 (talk) 16:45, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

When used as an external link, the link as well as the template are to be removed @Martijn Hoekstra: makes it quite clear in his closing statement.
"The result of the discussion was remove external links using this template," and "the only reasonable action is to remove all external links that use this template". He said that where the template is used as a reference it needs to be substituted. That is what I've done, I've only removed it from articles where it was an external link. There are 24 articles where its used as a reference, these will be worked on, and find a more reliable alternative reference if possible. You seem to be suggesting that I've interpreted the closing discussion incorrectly, but I'm struggling to see how I have. - X201 (talk) 17:05, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

Closed London stations

Why are you making edits like this or this? --Redrose64 (talk) 13:10, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

Helping to clear the TFD backlog. This TFD decision in November 2014 was to merge the contents of Infobox closed London station into Infobox London station. Because some of the fields don't transfer over on a one to one basis, I need to check which fields are used and which are not, and also what they contain, so that I can then plan for which fields to map them to. The reason for avoiding the redirects is so that I can scan the affected articles easier. Running each scan three times and then collating the results is a massive pain. By avoiding the redirect I can scan all articles and all fields in one pass. And then put a plan of action forward for the appropriate WikiProjects to agree on. - X201 (talk) 14:23, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
OK, so long as it's being assessed on a parameter by param basis. I've seen TfDs merges go through with an assumption that since two templates have certain similarly-named params, they are necessarily used for the same purpose. --Redrose64 (talk) 15:28, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
I'm going to list all the proposed mappings on the template talk page and notify the WikiProjects that use it. That should hopefully avoid me making any wrong interpretations or assumptions. As it stands, some of the fields don't exist and they'll need to make a decision to either create a new field or move the field contents into the prose. - X201 (talk) 15:34, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
Regarding edits like this - the default width used by infobox closed London station is 240px, but the initial "x" in |imagesize=x240px indicates that the height is to be 240px. I've been doing this for upright images, so that the image occupies approximately the same physical area as a horizontal image; this in turn means that they don't dominate the infobox.
If infobox closed London station does get merged with infobox London station, one of them needs to change its default image size, since infobox closed London station uses 240px and infobox London station uses 280px (recently changed from 240px). These are both different from infobox GB station, infobox UK disused station and infobox UK heritage station which all use 265px. --Redrose64 (talk) 12:39, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
@Redrose64:I've undone any where I changed the image size. I've also spotted that imagesize is an undocumented feature of infobox London station, so it looks like there's a good chance that it can be copied over on a one-to-one basis. - X201 (talk) 13:14, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

In regards to the "notable" tag on Running with Rifles

Hello and thank you for your contribution on Running with Rifles. I'm confused why you added the notable tag on the page. There are plenty of sources there and it was recently created. I am still working on it, on and off. I don't see why it should be deleted. Anarchyte (talk) 08:30, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

It not saying its going to be deleted, its just a warning that in its present condition its references are not up to the standard required. There are only two references that are not Primary sources(people developing or marketing the game), articles need secondary sources to avoid bias, so that they present a neutral point of view. Notability is measured by the number of independent reports and reviews in independent sources like magazines and websites. - X201 (talk) 08:43, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

Keeping Wikipedia Expanding Not Shrinking

Hello User:X201 sorry for disturbing you. The reason I am writing you is we all love Wikipedia and we want it expanding. However there is a discussion going on to delete a notable game article because of biased opinions. I saw that you edited this article: Final_Fantasy_Record_Keeper and let it stay for further expansion, update and keep growing Wikipedia. But I am also totally agree with you to let articles stay for improvements and expand Wikipedia. So I believe you are a neutral, professional, objective and who believes in expanding Wikipedia not shrinking it type of person. So I would like you to check out this discussion Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/MonsterMMORPG_(2nd_nomination) and make your comment based on references it has. References are here Talk:MonsterMMORPG. Please feel free to delete my message to you after you read it. Thank you very much have a nice day.176.233.41.152 (talk) 14:29, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi! I would like to ask whether edits like this are correct or not, or they are similar to edits like this which need to be reverted. AdrianGamer (talk) 08:41, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

There was a discussion with the user and this discussion. It was one of those things that just drifted over Christmas. Personally, I don't think we need to sub-cat 2015 video games into genres, and even if we did DUPCAT should apply. - X201 (talk) 10:31, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
Regarding the Franchise thing, I'll have to take a look at that and make my mind up. - X201 (talk) 10:32, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

Deletions

X201, you seem not to be aware of the guidelines for content concerning the Bullet Time page. That image you keep removing does not have any trademarked text or graphics. If its okay to have Warner Bros in the text body that helps a reader understand the topic there is nothing wrong with an image that certainly is the only public domain example of the topic with no trademarked text or image inside it. Reference Wikipedia's Sony example. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.10.51.45 (talk) 00:32, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

I've answered on the article talk page. - X201 (talk) 08:41, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

How is 3SwitcheD not notable?

Hello, I realize the article is very short but it's still a notable topic. Doing a google search for the game will come up with the steam store and a very select amount of pages. Clicking on the "news" button on google will lead me to unrelated searches. Thanks, Anarchyte (talk) 10:21, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) @Anarchyte, article topics require significant coverage in multiple reliable, independent sources. (?) This does not include self-published sources (dev sites), user blogs, or Steam listings. The best way to make a case to keep an article on its own is to use the video game reliable sources custom Google search. It's also not a big deal to redirect an article to its dev and let it incubate there summary style. czar  11:00, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
What Czar said. - X201 (talk) 13:13, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

Infobox vg script

Why does the infobox vg script change Single-player, multiplayer to Single-player, multiplayer? The former is sufficient, especially per the guideline on redirects that are not broken. Also what do you think of the proposal to standardize that field? – czar 12:57, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

It was just an attempt to standardise the five different forms that are currently in use (Single-player, single player, Single player, Singleplayer, Single-player video game|Single-player) into one, to make sifting through the field data easier and, in turn, make cleaning up the field easier. If standardisation via a code change on the infobox is in the offing then I'll stop doing it. - X201 (talk) 13:16, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Bots

You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.

What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.

This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.

If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!

Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.

Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.

Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. AWB help on Special:LinkSearch task

I'm looking to use AWB to process articles (not talk or user pages) from a Special:LinkSearch search. On those pages, I'd like to find the refs that link to a certain web address and then replace those refs entirely (between tags) with citation needed templates. For example, removing dualshockers.com only mainspace links from Special:LinkSearch/*.dualshockers.com. Have any suggestions on how to set this up? You're my resident AWB guru. – czar 01:26, 5 July 2015 (UTC)

@Czar: Sorry. Have been snowed under with off-wiki stuff. I'll try and sort it tomorrow. - X201 (talk) 15:53, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
 • Also, would you have the review of Blast Corps from Edge #45? – czar 06:02, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

@Czar: Sorry for the long wait, lot of off-wiki stuff to deal with. This will remove DualShockers references that are formatted between ref tags, references that are in "Japanese" format and refs that have been given "Autogenerated names", you'll need to check the last ones carefully to make sure it doesn't remove the refrence but leave the named reference. Named references are a bit of a problem in AWB as you can't pass the reference name as a variable to another search. The code below will skip any named reference, they really need a module coding up for them to do them safely. Let me know how many you've got at the end and I'll either code a module or help you get through them manually. Have got Edge 45, Blast Corp review won't be as long a wait.

Copy and pastecode, same as before. - X201 (talk) 11:59, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

Thanks so much. Can I ask another favor? I'm tweaking the regex but I don't know what to do next: http://regexr.com/3be14. In the third example, I need the regex to abort if it hits the ref close tag before finding the right URL. Any easy fix from an expert? – czar 19:11, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
Nevermind—I think I got it with negative lookahead – czar 19:35, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
Expert is pushing it a bit far :-D Searching for refs is a pain in the backside. There's a breakdown of techniques to miss them on one of the AWB talk pages. I'll try to find the link. - X201 (talk) 09:42, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

Old Edge

I'm trying to verify a citation in Knight Lore (by Ultimate Play the Game) and you may hold the key. Do you have: "Edge File volume 1, page 257, Future Publishing, 2006. From an article originally published in Edge issue 12, 1994"? I'd prefer both the Edge File and issue #12 scans, if you happen to have both. – czar 05:15, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

Poor Niko =\

I wonder if the warring over his nationality will ever stop. –xenotalk 10:59, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

I wish I knew how to stop it. Have been pondering expanding the nationality section to fully cover the "we don't know" aspect. But it would probably end up having no effect, nationality and identity seems strong in Balkan Wikipedians. - X201 (talk) 13:50, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

Game Tycoon 2

Hi, Game Tycoon will get a sequel, starting on 30th October on Early Access on Steam. Final release should be February 2016. Should I create a new site for it? The first game can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Tycoon — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarcoCol74 (talkcontribs) 10:22, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

It needs to be well sourced and notable. Adding reviews from reliable sites will help notability. You could create the article in your user space first and then move when its reaches a good enough standard. - X201 (talk) 18:38, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
Ok. How can I add a box-image at the release? I've created a first try at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Tycoon_2

Help request

Hello, X201. I've been directed to you due to needing help with an issue of Edge Magazine UK. The issue I'm interested in is Edge UK #194, for its review of Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. I'm planning work on the article at some point in the near future. If you could provide a transcript of the review on my talk page (review title and page number would also be very handy), that would be ideal. You can take as long as you need on this. I'm a little busy at the moment with a few rewrites in my sandbox for Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. --ProtoDrake (talk) 09:49, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

User:ProtoDrake - I've got hold of the review, if X201 hasn't already provided you with it, you can email me for a phone cam scan of the review. - hahnchen 23:27, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
@Hahnchen: Thanks, but I should have said this before. If you check the page in question, you'll see I found a working archived version of the online version of that review. So thank you, but I've found a substitute. Sorry I forgot to tell you. --ProtoDrake (talk) 08:24, 25 October 2015 (UTC)

Hey X201,

I'm hoping to add OpenCritic to the list of video game review aggregators.

I have already added it to the sandbox on line 62 and it passed all tests.

Dick De Benedictis' production music used in Heavy Rain

Alright I actually have the evidence that the famed and overused production music of Dick De Benedictis (which I am pretty sure most people that have lived in the past 20 years have heard these production music tracks since many TV shows, commercials and video games have used Dick's production music) is sampled in the soundtrack of Heavy Rain. So the track "Fightin' Mad Jack" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAinRDw7PDs) contains samples of "Nervous Tension 2", "Coast Road (a)", "Vertigo Gang (a)", "Dark Action (a)" and one of 5 tracks labeled "The Shock" along with a strings only version of "Predators (a)" (Which itself is modeled after the Predator theme) and an orchestral version of "Vertigo Gang (a)". All of these tracks can be found on the album "SCD 709 Dramatic Workshop 26 - Moodsetters, Links & Stings" (it also contains tracks composed by Gregor F. Narholz) however although the album was released in 2006, the tracks themselves were most likely recorded between the mid 80s and early 90s (as several programs such as Eyewitness and commercials from the 90s did use them and it is from the Sonoton Music Library and the album can be found here https://www.apmmusic.com/albums/SCD-0709 (both the strings only version of "Predators (a)" and "Vertigo Gang (a) are not on the album and I believe they are private or something, however I have heard that all the tracks on the album including ones that are not in the album are in the public domain, however I do not know if this is true). I hope that clears up anything. --73.240.105.185 (talk) 23:00, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for explaining, but unfortunately none of that can be used. Wikipedia needs a reference from a reliable source and the source should state the claim being made. Youtube isn't a reliable source and the track listing doesn't state that the music was used in Heavy Rain. Also, having had time to think about it, I doubt production music like this is notable, but that's a question that needs to be raised at WP:VG - X201 (talk) 08:04, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
Alright thanks, also I wasn't trying to use Youtube as a source, I was trying to show the track in which the samples (that were composed by DeBenedictis) were used in and the track listing is just a track listing and I was, aw forget it, I don't want to get into an argument to be honest. Anyways I do appreciate you for telling me (also yeah I don't think the production music is THAT notable but the tracks themselves are pretty overused and they're more like a sound effect to be honest). --73.240.105.185 (talk) 12:38, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

I've seen him do such stuff on the GTA IV characters page; seems like he decided to shift his focus on the main article upon knowing that his pet article has been locked. I didn't look too closely at the actual actors listed, I just removed it because it was a cast list of minor parts. I once had a user who was obsessed with putting references to Liv and Maddie in the Driver 3 article :) - X201 (talk) 14:57, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I thought Joyce Reynolds was still alive. Do you have a source for her death? Thanks. -- (talk) 15:41, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

Typo on my part. Sorry. - X201 (talk) 15:43, 8 December 2016 (UTC)
Oh my, I'm glad I asked about it. Thanks for correcting. -- (talk) 15:49, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

Changing date formats

Per WP:DATERET, please do not change established date formats in articles without discussion, as you did in this edit. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 08:58, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

It was a WP:BOLD edit. Based on MOS:STRONGNAT i.e Game was created in UK, by a UK developer and published by a UK publisher. Seems a bit odd to retain US date format on it.- X201 (talk) 11:45, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
Strong national ties to a topic doesn't apply to games. The article in question has nothing to do with the UK czar 17:52, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

DK64

Hi X201, I'm looking for the Edge review of Donkey Kong 64 in issue 79 (end of 1999). Do you have that copy? czar 08:19, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

Yep, I've got it. Will dig it out. - X201 (talk) 16:12, 19 December 2016 (UTC)
Hey, just checking back on this, if you have a moment czar 05:02, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
Yes, sorry. It slipped off the list in the Christmas chaos. Will do it now - X201 (talk) 08:57, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
