Aircraft placeholder stubs[edit]

Hi, I know it seems like a good idea, but unless you are going to write an actual article it is better to leave them as red-links, as reminders that a FULL article still needs to be written. If we filled all the red-links (see any List of aircraft page), it is highly likely that articles might not get written. So, on balance, if you aren't going to write a full article then leave the red-link alone.--Petebutt (talk) 00:42, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Petebutt Thanks for the advice, but I do intend on expanding the articles in the near future. I don't have the sources required for anything but stubs at the moment, but I'm actively looking for sources to expand them and I expect that I will be able to do more digging near the end of the year once I'm finished with my classes. Don't worry, the articles won't remain stubs for long, not if I can help it. - ZLEA T\C 02:12, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Great, no problems, but still better to leave them as red-links till you are ready.--Petebutt (talk) 03:52, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Editing news 2020 #3[edit]

On 16 March 2020, the 50 millionth edit was made using the visual editor on desktop.

Seven years ago this week, the Editing team made the visual editor available by default to all logged-in editors using the desktop site at the English Wikipedia. Here's what happened since its introduction:

  • The 50 millionth edit using the visual editor on desktop was made this year. More than 10 million edits have been made here at the English Wikipedia.
  • More than 2 million new articles have been created in the visual editor. More than 600,000 of these new articles were created during 2019.
  • Almost 5 million edits on the mobile site have been made with the visual editor. Most of these edits have been made since the Editing team started improving the mobile visual editor in 2018.
  • The proportion of all edits made using the visual editor has been increasing every year.
  • Editors have made more than 7 million edits in the 2017 wikitext editor, including starting 600,000 new articles in it. The 2017 wikitext editor is VisualEditor's built-in wikitext mode. You can enable it in your preferences.
  • On 17 November 2019, the first edit from outer space was made in the mobile visual editor.
  • In 2019, 35% of the edits by newcomers, and half of their first edits, were made using the visual editor. This percentage has been increasing every year since the tool became available.

Squared.Circle.Boxing I think we need to go to WP:ANI about this. I don't think salting the titles will do much to prevent paid users from recreating the article. - ZLEA T\C 21:32, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That may be worth a shot as the deletion clearly isn’t getting the point across. I’ll leave the ANI process to you though, I’ve never had much luck round those parts lol – 2.O.Boxing 22:32, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Squared.Circle.Boxing I've brought it up at ANI here. If you know of any evidence I missed, feel free to bring it up. - ZLEA T\C 23:49, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like you nailed it, good effort. Didn’t take long for action to be taken either. Case closed :) – 2.O.Boxing 00:07, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Zeppelin-Messerschmitt ZMe 423[edit]

Hi, do you have more sources for Zeppelin-Messerschmitt ZMe 423? A list of designations isn't enough to establish notability per WP:GNG. - BilCat (talk) 04:04, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

BilCat Unfortunately, I haven't found anything other than that one source. I've gone ahead and merged it into Messerschmitt Me 323, which is probably the best option until more sources can be found. - ZLEA T\C 13:45, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea! Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 19:27, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Specifications for Tejas MK1[edit]

Hi ZLEA,

Apologies if I came across as rude, but it seems some of the specs sourced from HAL website are old. For example how can 9,800 kg of gross weight and 13,500 kg of MTOW result in 5300 kg payload ? The specs in HAL states old payload was 5.3Tn = 4800kg approx, so clearly it cant be 5300 kg. The Engine specifications for GE404-IN20 generating 90KN wet thrust is also false, latest GEAviation website https://www.geaviation.com/sites/default/files/datasheet-F404-Family.pdf clearly says max wet thrust for the engine can be 84-85KN max. The blog post has interviews from retired Mirage pilots, HAL data is way outdated since 2013. Let me know what you think. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sags1991 (talkcontribs) 02:08, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sags1991 That's understandable, but you have to realize that bloggers can claim whatever they want. Yes, the blog claims to have interviewed retired Mirage pilots, but there is no track record that shows that they are telling the truth. HAL, as the builder of the aircraft, should be able to keep their website up to date with specs. Most other sources will either restate what the manufacturer says or make up specs. The only way for a source to state accurate specs when the manufacturer's specs are inaccurate would be to examine the aircraft themselves, which would not likely happen as the Tejas is a modern military aircraft. - ZLEA T\C 02:20, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Zeppelin-Messerschmitt aircraft requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Vandalism?[edit]

I fixed a typo in HAL Tejas and you call it "Vandalism"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by User070510 (talkcontribs) 17:34, 11 July 2020 (UTC) User070510 (talk) 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

User070510 That's because it's not a typo. You've been told that before but you changed it again anyway. "Comptroller" is a real title that is separate from "controller". - ZLEA T\C 17:53, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Republic XP-69[edit]

On 24 July 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Republic XP-69, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that development of the Republic XP-69 aircraft was canceled due to problems with its liquid-cooled radial engine? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Republic XP-69. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Republic XP-69), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Reply tool[edit]

The number of comments posted with the Reply Tool from March through June 2020. People used the Reply Tool to post over 7,400 comments with the tool.

The Reply tool has been available as a Beta Feature at the Arabic, Dutch, French and Hungarian Wikipedias since 31 March 2020. The first analysis showed positive results.

  • More than 300 editors used the Reply tool at these four Wikipedias. They posted more than 7,400 replies during the study period.
  • Of the people who posted a comment with the Reply tool, about 70% of them used the tool multiple times. About 60% of them used it on multiple days.
  • Comments from Wikipedia editors are positive. ("I think the tool has a significant impact; it saves time to reply while the classic way is to move with a mouse to the Edit link to edit the section or the page which is generally far away from the comment. And the user reaches to the edit box so quickly to use the Reply tool.")[74]

The Editing team released the Reply tool as a Beta Feature at eight other Wikipedias in early August. Those Wikipedias are in the Chinese, Czech, Georgian, Serbian, Sorani Kurdish, Swedish, Catalan, and Korean languages. If you would like to use the Reply tool at your wiki, please tell User talk:Whatamidoing (WMF).

The Reply tool is still in active development. Per request from the Dutch Wikipedia and other editors, you will be able to customize the edit summary. (The default edit summary is "Reply".) A "ping" feature is available in the Reply tool's visual editing mode. This feature searches for usernames. Per request from the Arabic Wikipedia, each wiki will be able to set its own preferred symbol for pinging editors. Per request from editors at the Japanese and Hungarian Wikipedias, each wiki can define a preferred signature prefix in the page MediaWiki:Discussiontools-signature-prefix. For example, some languages omit spaces before signatures. Other communities want to add a dash or a non-breaking space.

New requirements for user signatures[edit]

  • The new requirements for custom user signatures began on 6 July 2020. If you try to create a custom signature that does not meet the requirements, you will get an error message.
  • Existing custom signatures that do not meet the new requirements will be unaffected temporarily. Eventually, all custom signatures will need to meet the new requirements. You can check your signature and see lists of active editors whose custom signatures need to be corrected. Volunteers have been contacting editors who need to change their custom signatures. If you need to change your custom signature, then please read the help page.

Next: New discussion tool[edit]

Next, the team will be working on a tool for quickly and easily starting a new discussion section to a talk page. To follow the development of this new tool, please put the New Discussion Tool project page on your watchlist.
