"so why try?"

There are two obvious answers to this question from your userpage:

  1. First, it is an extremely common feature of many human endeavors to strive towards a goal that is unobtainable; this includes both e.g. the scientific effort to strive to understand the laws that govern the universe even though a comprehensive understanding will never be achieved, and the Christian effort to strive to live a holy life even though sin is inevitable.
  2. Second, it is the essence of not being an asshole to try to not offend the people one comes in contact with, and to understand their perspectives. Presumably you accept that it is proper to try not to be an asshole to some of the people you interact with in your life, and there is no good reason to tightly restrict this group.

I grew up in a very politically incorrect family, and I feel that it'll take more than calling people like me freaks of God and assholes to shake us. But we aren't evil people, just misunderstood, but don't believe me, talk to any of us and you will find out. - ZLEA (Talk,Contribs) 13:22, 23 May 2017 (UTC)
Your page contains a question; my post contains an answer (actually, two). Obviously you are under no obligation to read or agree with my answer, but since you responded I would like to suggest that you read it again -- your response has almost nothing to do with what I have written, except for sharing a couple of words. (For example, it should be obvious that I have no opinion about whether your family are assholes -- you are a complete stranger on the internet.) --JBL (talk) 14:24, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. For the co-ordinators, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:35, 8 December 2017 (UTC)
