This is an article on a British web series dealing with Islamic topics which has received well in excess of 35 million YouTube hits. In my view its notability issues have stemmed from two problems: (1) Several media outlets refer to it as "Diary of a Badman" and (2) It had inline citations but no "References" section, a problem since corrected. Once one gets past that, one finds plenty of significant coverage from folks like the BBC, The Guardian, Sky News and others. Faustus37 (talk) 05:17, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

List of fictional elements that needs reception info. It's a bit harder to source than Star Trek or Star Wars equivalents because starships weren't the focus of SG-1 for the first few seasons. I've ordered half a dozen books on the topic, but they won't arrive before the AfD closes. Anyone got some good sci-fi sources that can help source the various entries to independent RS'es? It needs renaming to Ancestry of the British monarchy, not deleting. Please help keep this important information for family history. Paul Bedsontalk 00:21, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

This article is poorly focused, superficial, and arbitrary in its coverage. It was created as a way to get a single pedigree onto Wikipedia after it was deemed inappropriate on two other pages. It has since had material added with no particular plan or obvious organizational scheme to try to keep it from being deleted. What information it contains that is reliable is already provided in a more scholarly, more organized and more comprehensive fashion on other existing pages that would be reduced in their quality by merging this material into them. Nothing to save here. Agricolae (talk) 00:39, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

The Worldwide Independent Network/Gallup International Association (WIN/GIA) is a global association of independent market research and polling firms. The group was created in May 2010 when the Gallup International Association (GIA), created in 1947, and the Worldwide Independent Network of market research (WIN), created April 2007, merged. These two organizations were notable when formed, and remain notable when merged. When nominated for deletion, the article was undocumented, but it now has three inline citations. It needs more references, especially if an AfD is filed. --DThomsen8 (talk) 18:51, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

Band/producers that produce "walk out" music for MMA groups including the United States' UFC and the UK/European group UCMMA. Owing to the way the sport is regarded, much of the press that Coalition Fight Music has received is online and/or not from the usual sports press (no Sports Illustrated articles...), so sourcing can be an issue. Article received its first PROD in June 2011 and received a second PROD (against policy) November 1. Would appreciate some ARS folks taking a look. Shearonink (talk) 14:47, 12 November 2012 (UTC)

Anyone interested? I know that MMA is not some people's cup of tea, but it is a notable sport/form of entertainment. This is a good WP:LISTPURP with plenty of precedent on other election pages. Given its length I think it's appropriate to keep it separate rather than merge it. The aforementioned precedents are mainly in the election articles themselves, an exception being International reaction to the 2009 Iranian presidential election. I'm referring to "Reactions" sections in articles such as Greek legislative election, May 2012, Philippine general election, 2010, Russian legislative election, 2011, Turkish general election, 2011 and so forth. Under most circumstances I would prefer to have such information in the main election articles as well, but given its size I think it makes more sense to have a standalone article in this particular case. • Interestingly, there's actually some stuff out there that's more dated, although most appear to be passing mentions that are speculative or discuss the possibility of Star Wars Episode VII occurring. However, some of these sources could potentially be usable in the article to describe rumors, public perceptions, Lucas' reluctance to create more films, etc. Examples include: [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7]. Thanks Northamerica1000. A problem seem to have been that some of what was being put in the article was crystal. Also, near the end of the discussion Smetanahue, who previously iVoted "Delete and protect per WP:CRYSTAL. That there are many fanboys is just a reason to be extra observant of the guidelines" at the Star Wars Episode VII AfD discussion, moved the crystal plot information ahead of the 2002-2012 non-crystal source information in the article, claiming that Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Film specifies a defined order of sections (which it does not). In addition to adding content, ARS should help ensure that articles are not manipulated during AfD discussion in away that supports the delete arguments. As for Star Wars Episode VII, what could put in the article is listed at Template:Filmmaking. At the moment, the only info available is Development: Green-light history from 2002 to 2012 and some film treatment (potential plot). After the Episode VII announcement, what's currently poping up for the most part is people positioning themselves to be part of the cast (Pre-production) Harrison Ford ready to reprise Han Solo role. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 13:34, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

Very interesting AfD. This previously was at AFD last month (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Elephant House (2nd nomination)) and after two relistings and 21 days, only garnered one vote, which was a "delete" vote with what I would deem a very equivocating rationale. The admin (a new admin) closed as keep ostensibly based on a prior AfD in 2008 (a keep), though they might have argued it should be a no-consensus close due to lack of participation. In any event, the closing admin is also a public art scholar and could have opined keep herself (clearly her own opinion) and not closed the discussion, and it would have then clearly closed as no consensus. So then it went to DRV after the close rationale was challenged, which led to a decision to relist. And now its at AfD again as a procedural relisting. In the first seven days of the new AfD, it got one vote (a keep) which listed several additional sources. It then had to be relisted before more editors actually noticed it (notwithstanding all the folks who participated in the DRV and apparently were not interested in assessing the merits of the article). This is a textbook example of AfD going bad -- there are so many places where an article can fall thru the cracks and get wrongfully deleted in this scenario due to lack of participation.--Milowenthasspoken 12:38, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

  • Wrong forum: This is Article Rescue Squadron, not Template Rescue Squadron. Anyway, your old template was deleted and SALTed, and this is just a copy of that template, so it should be as well pbp 20:59, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
  • Comment: And one worth repeating. This seems terribly ham-handed to me. What's wrong with letting AfD participants know that a particular discussion is on the ARS radar? That doesn't hurt anything. Many articles get deleted despite it. For that matter, so what if you deleted and salted its predecessor? That decision may have been wrong, you know. Recall the Fifth Pillar of Wikipedia is WP:IGNORE. Faustus37 (talk) 09:37, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
  • pbp nominates it for deletion days ago and doesn't mention it to the Wikiproject, then tries this stunt. I restored what was placed at the top, since obviously, this affects this wikiproject and thus should be mentioned here, like it would for any wikiproject who had this going on. Also, what was deleted before was the banner that appeared on the articles themselves, not this list which was created immediately as a replacement. Dream Focus 15:59, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
    • The use of the rescue tag on the TfD of the rescue tag is highly inappropriate and amounts to canvassing. That's why this was placed under "Resolved: Wrong Forum", because of its inappropriateness. Also, WikiProjects do not need to be notify, and if they were, notification would not be in this section of a WikiProject pbp 19:14, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
      • You honestly believe that a Wikiproject would not need to be notified if something concerning it was up for deletion discussion somewhere? Uh huh. Not bothering to debate that with you. And those that use this particular template end up here, so its the obvious place to place it so those using it will know what's going on. Dream Focus 19:30, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
        • Um, this is a list of articles Lemme repeat that: articles. That should explain why this has no business being tagged with its own tag pbp 19:35, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

  • Its a borderline case, which is probably part of the reason why its been relisted *three* times at AfD with minimal participation. Does deletion really help the project in this case? Not really.--Milowenthasspoken 14:09, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
    • I agree that it is a borderline case, the notability of bands is always a difficult question, and Wikipedia probably has too many articles on bands, especially rock and other very popular music bands, but even so, I think this Scottish traditional music band article should be kept. --DThomsen8 (talk) 15:08, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

This article is currently undergoing an AfD. I believe it should be kept because the subject of the article has received significant coverage in reliable, secondary sources, thereby passing Wikipedia's general notability guideline. I have added ten sources to the article and there are plenty more available by a simple Google search. This is an important speech because it is the first time that Obama spoke publicly on the subject of human trafficking. Any help in saving this article from deletion would be greatly appreciated. Innovation Works is a Southwestern Pennsylvania company with the mission to foster the technology economy in Southwestern Pennsylvania through direct investment and business expertise. The company is supported by Pennsylvania's Department of Community and Economic Development. The AfD says the company is not notable, and does not have reliable sources. I am supplying sources:

Here are two articles from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the leading Pittsburgh daily newspaper:

Here are four articles from the Pittsburgh Business Times:

The nominator says the two Pittsburgh Post-Gazette are routine (WP:ROUTINE) and therefore are not reliable independent sources, all of the Pittsburgh Business Times articles depend on information from the company and therefore don't show notability, and the final business journal article is based on a company handout and is not reliable. This company has been successful for about twelve years, and there are more articles than those I provided, but how can the "not notable" and "not a reliable source" logic be refuted? --DThomsen8 (talk) 18:46, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

You may recall such programmes as Monty Python, Doctor Who, Sky at Night, Are You Being Served?, Fawlty Towers, &c. Warden (talk) 20:22, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

I just proposed this in the AfD, wanted to make sure you noticed it. This list is of all programs "broadcast" by the BBC, which includes plenty of programming that the BBC had nothing to do with producing, originating, etc. (including The Flintstones, Flight of the Conchords, etc....that was just me scanning what's under the letter 'F', and they're perfectly valid under the list's current scope). The examples you list above are excellent examples of programming original to the BBC, and as such I've proposed altering the list's scope to limit it to BBC originals. Otherwise, this is in practice a list that includes in its scope almost every TV show ever aired in the UK, including reruns of American-originated programming. This seems the definition of indiscriminate to me. ɠǀɳ̩ςεΝɡbomb 00:41, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

This is an article that was created via the WP:AFC process and has been subsequently nominated for deletion. The claim is that it does not meet GNG, but one of the references indicate that it was covered by CBS, among other reliable sources. I have too many commitments, both in real life and on articles that I am already working on, to be able to do the research needed on this article. If anyone here can do some research it would be appreciated. As a side matter, is there any policy or guideline on AFC articles being immediately nominated for deletion? I can't find anything, so if anyone knows of one, if you could drop a note on my talk page, it would also be appreciated. GregJackP Boomer! 02:38, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

  • A new article nominated for deletion. Is it notable, and sourceable from sources other than YouTube? Northamerica1000(talk) 11:18, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
That's only shows what music videos were watched each week, it not including all YouTube videos. The media does mention certain notable bands and their current views of their YouTube videos at times though. Dream Focus 11:31, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
  • The nomination doesn't focus on notability. There's a general problem with careful chart tracking, in that charts, at their core, serve as advertisements. They aren't simple numeric measures: they are carefully weighted, with eligibility requirements, timing requirements, rules about reentry, etc., in an effort to market and promote different genres and artists. That puts tracking any of them close to running afoul of WP:NOTADVERTISING. It would be impossible to cover the music industry without mention of charts, though. Even though it's marketing, it's the foundation of the way the business operates. The compromise we've come up with over the years is WP:SINGLEVENDOR: we cover charts that cross multiple channels and outlets because, despite all their faults, they provide meaningful information about the success of the individual songs on the charts. Charts that cover only a single outlet really serve to promote the outlet, not the things on the chart itself, so carefully tracking them in this manner serves no purpose except to promote the outlet.—Kww(talk) 15:27, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
  • Sure, but WP:SINGLEVENDOR, which states, "Charts which rank material from a single vendor or network are generally unsuitable for inclusion in articles", may be somewhat outdated, and should be considered on a case-by-case basis. Significant numbers of people use YouTube all over the planet. That said, I appreciate the detailed reply delineating your rationale. Northamerica1000(talk) 15:36, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

An NGO (as far as I can tell) that works with Unicef,[1] the WHO and the like – so, I would say, notable – but their article here currently reads like an advert. Trying to rescue an unreferenced BLP

(copied here from WP:RSN) Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 17:40, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

The unreferenced BLP Sarah Blacker is currently at risk of WP:BLPPROD. The bio makes mention of references in the The Boston Globe and Performer Magazine, but provides no citations to back up these claims. I searched around and found this link to the latter source [11]. However, I noticed this in the page footer:

WHO WE ARE Performer has been in print for over 20 years. We are a nationally distributed musician’s trade publication, with a focus on independent musicians, those unsigned and on small labels, and their success in a DIY environment. We’re dedicated to promoting lesser-known talent and being the first to introduce you to artists you should know about.

So would this trade publication be considered a reliable source? If not, then I may have no choice but to nominate the article for deletion. Tgghanks.--Drm310 (talk) 06:19, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

  • Are enough reliable sources available to qualify a Wikipedia article for this topic? Maybe people here can help to find some. See also: Eating crow. Northamerica1000(talk) 13:16, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
  • The article was initially nominated for deletion because I created it after the topic (crow stew) was mentioned on the television talk-show Conan. At that time, it was a stub. Since then, I’ve spent hours researching the subject, and I think I’ve pretty much exhausted the effort. I’m not sure how much more information can be dug up on this, or if it’s even worth the work. There may be more worthy articles on Wikipedia to spend time on.
Having said that, I think this is still an informative, useful, and well-substantiated article. (For example, I was able to trace the modern crow stew recipe to its origins in the Midwest US during the time of the Great Depression). The sources are absolutely reliable; the research is solid and the article should be saved.--Jvanek01 (talk) 15:50, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Measure R is similar to many ballot propositions that meet GNG. It was voted for by over 2 million people and effects a county of nearly 10 million. It helped pay for two of the largest construction projects in American history (the expansion of Los Angeles mass transit and the California High-Speed Rail) and represents a generational shift in attitudes about transit and urbanism.--Jkfp2004 (talk) 02:14, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

I rewrote the article and the AFD has been withdrawn now. Warden (talk) 14:30, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
The page now seems to have a discret topic that can grow (the Newton's apple falling upon his head makes the myth gist of the article clear). From the article title, I thought about pseudoscience being a scientific myth. I think the title needs another word or two, something like Myths of scientific knowledge (from Sociology of scientific knowledge) or Myths of scientific theory, Myths of scientific principles, etc. You may want to take a look at intitle:scientific and intitle:myth and see if you can come up with the right wording that is consistent with how those two words are used in other titles. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 15:04, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
  • Origin myths of scientific principles? The very-russian-minded prior version of this article is hard to decipher but seemed to be about something different, more like what is at List of popular misconceptions about the history of science. Like that blow jobs are good for women's health, to mention one "science myth" I just saw mentioned again today.--Milowenthasspoken 16:29, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
  • It's possible that the scientific myth article is a coat rack just waiting for coats such as blow jobs are good for women's health to be hung on it. The translation of the Russian says ". As an example, Mr. Bondi leads "field myth" when the high efficiency of Maxwell's theory gave rise to the myth that all good physical theory must be field." Sounds closer to an opinionated complaint than something that links the myth of Newton's apple falling on his head with the gravity scientific principle. Hopefully, the Colonel's efforts will keep the article from going south in the future. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 11:27, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

Yet another topic which is rich in dramatic irony. Warden (talk) 12:31, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

The likelihood that writers are going to write enough source material about something that originated in the 16th century and is still around today is strong. Looks like the AfD is going to be a keeper, thanks to Colonel Warden's efforts. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 12:54, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

The book has a significant number reviews that are available via google: [14], however, I don't have the time to significantly improve the article, 01:55, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Looks like it is going to be kept. Books are a tougher AfD topic. Other than review of the book and cites by others to passages in the book, what else is there? For films and music, people can have a jointly shared experience which reliable sources can write about. Books are different in that reactions are individual, and reliable sources are not going to write about any one individual reaction to a book. Books probably should have a lower notability threshold than other topics. A few reviews from when the book is first published and some other reliable source coverage of the book a year or several years later about something other than a review of the book (award, turned into a movie, started a riot, etc.) might be all that is needed. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 10:53, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

We need a better shortcut for WP:CLN. How about WP:LISTHATE or WP:NOCONTEST? Warden (talk) 20:39, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

I stand (possibly) corrected, per more sources added to the article by other editor(s), (unless the sources were from GNews/Books!) Northamerica1000(talk) 12:10, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

The result of the AfD discussion was "no consensus leaning towards deletion." Northamerica1000(talk) 03:54, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

  • Currently at AfD. Not sure how to respond since its already very well-sourced (and ironically, being well-sourced is being held against the article as being a 'link farm'). A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 23:44, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
Odd that it got nominated again, seeing how many references were found in the first AFD months ago. Dream Focus 00:38, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

  • Anyone study this in any history classes in college? Got any books about it? Seems quite encyclopedic to list the nations that were considered great powers at some point in history. Dream Focus 07:30, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
  • The AFD ended in KEEP. Dream Focus 20:00, 1 April 2013 (UTC)
The article was renamed to List of pre-modern great powers. Northamerica1000(talk) 10:53, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

Worthy of rescue. Indeed, the nom's real complaint is about quality, and its worth improving. Best selling hardcover novel from a new novelist in UK in 2012[16] among other claims to notability. Almost reached nytimes bestseller list (Was on extended list for a number of weeks [17]), also got much attention from critics.--Milowenthasspoken 02:55, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
The article was retained. Northamerica1000(talk) 10:50, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

  • Nominated for deletion as a content fork, but a significant amount of information in the article is not present in other articles. It's also nominated for being essay-like and for having parts that are "poorly written/unnecessary." Perhaps copy editing would be in order. Furthermore, several of the sources in the article are primary; finding and adding additional secondary sources to better-establish topic notability would be in order. Northamerica1000(talk) 23:43, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
  • It's good to see Fram pitching in to rescue this article. Per the parable of the Lost Sheep, "there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance." :) Warden (talk) 15:48, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
Withdrawn by nominator, so it ended as keep. Dream Focus 15:51, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

The AFD has facile criticisms such as "too slight" so more bulk might help. Warden (talk) 12:40, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

Reviewers at the AfD suggest that "white jazz" is not commonly understood to be a standalone music genre, but "white jazz" is a concept discussed in several reliable sources and not simply as a qualifier for "white jazz musicians". I would be glad to see the article expanded or merged into the "Race" section I created on the Jazz article, which also needs expanding. Neelix (talk) 11:14, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Strange that I should find myself here, or anywhere, arguing for an article's deletion, especially since I am theoretically still a member of this squadron...but please read the AfD discussion carefully before coming to this article's rescue. There are good reasons to suggest that it is misplaced, or misguided. Chubbles (talk) 15:35, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Here's an article that was proposed for deletion, which I declined, because per the topic's source availability and the depth of coverage in many of the sources, it is notable per English Wikipedia's standards. I've improved it and added sources. Additional improvements are appreciated; many sources are available. Northamerica1000(talk) 10:59, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
