I know Wikipedia recently had the Black-out day in response to America's SOPA/PIPA. I am sure you are aware of Canada's own Bill C-11. Which is Canada's version of SOPA/PIPA. Is there anyway you can help get the word out there? Just like America, the last thing Canada needs is a censored and policed internet. Anything is greatly appreciated by the entire population of Canada.

Artists Discography[edit]

Hello, my issue is that when I click on the single discography for certain artists, the RIAA certification no longer appears. For example, if you click on the song title "How you Remind me" by Nickelback, it says that the song was certified gold in the article. However this does not appear on the list of charting singles. Let me see if I understand you. How You Remind Me#Chart performances and awards says "The single was certified Gold by the RIAA". the india map[edit]

Re advetorial changes to article and need for monitoring[edit]

Guys, you may want to keep a close watch on the article Cabcharge. There seems to be targeted work underway by WideEyedBill to maintain the article as advertising and promotional material (he's probably one of the company's communications people). Another user, Ellen Fehls, had previously added some credible and well referenced material critical of the company and its activities. WideEyedBill, however, reversed or nullified most of these changes over several sessions while adding some further promotional material about the company. I would like to point out that none of this promotional material is appropriately referenced thus casting serious doubts about its credibility. MathML rendering[edit]

I have set the math appearance setting to "MathML if possible". Although Firefox 9.0.1 supports MathML, all equations in Integral are rendered as PNG images. The caption line at the settings page has no URLs as to where the feature is described or developed. Is this feature a part of mw:Texvc? Shanks Group image[edit]

The image on the Shanks Group page needs amending as this logo is now obsolete. How do I upload our new logo? I've uploaded it to Wiki Commons but unsure how to now transfer this over to the page? If you post the name of the new file, I'm sure someone here would be happy to walk you through the process. Or, find the filename of the old image in the article (usually near the top in the infobox) and replace that filename with the one from commons. There might be an factual error running through multiple articles[edit]

Dear help desk,

I am a busy research assistant and do not have the time to correct this error in all the articles it might be found in. Also, I am not sure, if it is an actual error. (I do think it is).

The problem is the following:

In the Article on the "United States Intelligence Community" it is stated that: "The United States Intelligence Community (IC) is a cooperative federation of 16 separate United States government agencies that work separately and together to conduct intelligence activities considered necessary for the conduct of foreign relations and the protection of the national security of the United States."

Now, at least according to the official website of the Intelligence Community, it "is a coalition of 17 agencies and organizations within the executive branch that work both independently and collaboratively to gather the intelligence necessary to conduct foreign relations and national security activities." http://www.intelligence.gov/about-the-intelligence-community/

Of course, you can argue, as the article does later on, that "The IC consists of 16 members (also called elements). The Central Intelligence Agency is an independent agency of the United States government. The other 15 elements are offices or bureaus within federal executive departments. The IC is led by the Director of National Intelligence, whose office, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), is not listed as a member of the IC."

But my problem here is the following: While the IC itself officially claims to have 17 agencies, including the ODNI (which they DO list on their website, too!), everyone in the world does not read the whole article apparently, nor the official website, because it gets distributed in all other wikipedia articles and most official media that the IC has really only 16 elements.(Which - as I would argue - is not the whole truth; it is more factually correct, I think, to officially say "There's 17, but one really doesn't count", than to say "There's really only 16, while officially there are 17; but because one doesn't really count, 16 is right")

I hope you can correct this. I am willing to help with my Wiki-account, but since my job is to research for a publication, I do not have much time and cannot correct such a major mistakes (if you want to count it as such, as I would do) all on my own.

Nope, I already explained it on the talk page of United States Intelligence Community. There they did not count the Office of the Director of National Intelligence as one of the members of the IC. But if you look close enough on their websites - http://www.dni.gov/faq_intel.htm and http://www.intelligence.gov/about-the-intelligence-community/ - you can see that officially the IC does have 17 elements. The section you added to the article isn't really appropriate for wikipedia, as it very clearly speaks from the perspective of the company. We are required to maintain a Neutral point of view, which precludes long passages and quotes such as this. Note also that, because you founded the company, you have a very clear Conflict of interest that almost certainly precludes you from editing the article. If you still feel that some portion of your proposed addition should be included, your best bet would be to discuss it at Talk:Messner Vetere Berger McNamee Schmetterer/Euro RSCG, but be aware that other editors may disagree. I don't know what I want to learn[edit]

Dear Wikipedia,

Could you add a "stumble" button to the top of your wikipedia pages that when clicked takes you to a random wiki page. Wikipedia has never let me down when I know what I am looking for, but sometimes I just want to learn about random things. Could be neat don't you think?

The Flowers of War article's rating box[edit]

That's very strange, but I have no idea how you would fix it. I'm also surprised that it was unanimously given the highest rating 5.0, for completeness by 50 editors. That looks odd. I don't know what the policies of Norwegian Wikipedia are, but if you did this on English Wikipedia the new text would not be acceptable unless it was supported by independent reliable sources, and you would be strongly discouraged from inserting it in the article because you have a conflict of interest. Was endash the right choice?[edit]

I just moved some articles with hyphens to similar ones with endashes. I also replaced hyphens in the articles as well. Upon reviewing the MOS, I'm now unsure if I made the correct decision. Here are the articles that were part of the moves:

The manufacturer and every source I have found use a hyphen so changing to en dash sounds like a poor idea. The product itself also has a symbol far too short for an en dash at for example File:OM-4T-1.jpg. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:28, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There is no "undo" link for page moves. You have to make a new page move back to the old title. This is possible for non-administrators as long as the old title has not been edited since the move. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:51, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disruptive editing[edit]

I tried reporting an IP to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism but this was edited by a bot because "User is in the category: Shared IP addresses from educational institutions." Where is the right place to report this? AnkhMorpork (talk) 16:42, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at the recent history of WP:AIV (link) and looked for your name to see which IP you reported, then scanned upwards to see what happened to that IP. Redirects showing out-of-date content[edit]

some days ago I changed and saved the Wikipedia article at

After that I noticed that there exists a second article at

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gluons

which is "redirected" to the first one. But as I see the "Gluons" article does not show my last changes ? So, what is the meaning of "redirection" ? I've moved your question to the foot of the page, because that is where new questions go (or should go if you want them answered!). The references section of an article is generally empty, apart from the tag which allows the references to be placed there. The detail, and the place where the correction needed to be made, is in the section where the reference is called up. See WP:Referencing for beginners. Spaces or TABs for indenting source code?[edit]

In the sample source code in A complete reentrant parser example (a section in a Wikipedia article) a mix of spaces and TABs are used for indenting the source code (in the C programming language in this example), and it works as long as TABs are equal to 8 spaces.

It doesn't specify how many spaces or how the indents should be achieved in the pseudocode, just that indenting should be used where appropriate. reference gone = citation no longer available[edit]

Deleting ref text from body gives error in ref list at 15. I can't understand how to fix, so I restored the incorrect ref 15. No answers in FAQ or archives. He said that there weren't any third-party sources. The credits themselves come from IMDB. What else do I need to do for verifiability? People's Action Party (Singapore) - Article[edit]

Hello,

I would like to bring to your attention a problem with Wikipedia as I see it.

I edited the People's Action Party wiki article a few years ago.

I put in reference to one of the co-founders of the party (Lim Chin Siong) that was persecuted by former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. This was documented in a book (Comet in our Sky) by British scholars/professors using declassified British Government documents that proved Lim was not a communist as was claimed and used to keep him in prison for many years so he could not compete with Lee.

Lee Kuan Yew and his son have maintained control of the Singapore government and courts since the 1960's using less than honorable methods and are now using their power to control what goes onto wikipedia, it has even been stated by the party that they started a new project to "clean up the internet" regarding the party and Singapore's image.

All information on the wiki article about Lim's persecution has been removed, attempts to put it back result in messages that an edit conflict with another user has happened, this may be the result of some kind of robot edit machine that has been set up.

Wikipedia has now become the tool of dictators. I think Jimmy Wales should be made aware of this issue.

People's Action Party has been edited thousands of times by dozens, perhaps hundreds of people. It is certainly possible that the material in question was removed by somebody wishing to slant the article. There are however many other possible reasons, including that somebody might have though the material was not adequately referenced.

What you have three times tried to add to the article is discussion about the article: this absolutely does not belong in the article, but it does belong on its talk page, where you can engage in discussion with others who are interested in the article - probably some of whom will agree with you about the matter, and some who won't. There is no user by that name. Can you please provide some context? Where did you see this? Was this a description someone used in relation to another user, etc. Without that context I am guessing this has something to do with testing the Article Feedback Tool ("AFT").--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:52, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
