Sport uniform colors (light and dark)

Can somebody please give me a rudimentary tutorial about editing light and dark uniforms (incl. light and dark color application)? I'm new to this stuff and getting confused how to edit one especially the blank uniforms in basketball. TruPepitoMTalk To Me 00:27, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

ancestry website

I guess you refer to the feature at Wikipedia:Books. Such books can only display Wikipedia pages. You cannot import data from an external site. If you save your book in a file you download to your own computer then maybe you can find software to edit that file. This is not a service Wikipedia offers. Wikimarkup in edits

When I edited a page a list of wikimarkups used to appear at the bottom so as whenever I clicked on, for example, "default sort" the default sort template for categories would automatically appear on the page. This has now disappeared without me altering my preferences. Is there any way I can get this to return as it was very useful and it's removal will mean wasting a lot of time looking for the formula for the markup I want? Apologies if this is the wrong place for this query as I haven't required technical help in all my years on Wikipedia before. Keresaspa (talk) 01:10, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

There is a lot of discussion at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). I haven't followed it closely and am not sure when or if the old edittools box comes back. Some users say it's there if they disable "Enable enhanced editing toolbar" at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:25, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Judging from the comments at WP:Village pump (technical), it looks like poor management that this essential set of tools went away without warning, inconveniencing massive numbers of editors. Indef-blocked user status

What happens when:

• A user is indef-blocked, comes back with several puppets over the next month and they are all indef-blocked.
• The user stays quiet for 6 months, then starts again with similar edits.
• WP:SPI says the situation is "stale".

What determines stale? Is an indef-block by definition for a given period of time and after that the user can start again with a new account or two, dance the same dance, add the same outdated references and questionable sources again and again?

Generally people try to avoid discussing the specifics so as to avoid giving sockpuppeteers information that would aid them in avoiding detection. Stale's time limit is the length of time the servers retain the data necessary to run a checkuser search, though I'm not sure if the exact time is widely known. You can still make a sock case using behavioral evidence even if the technical data is stale. Monty₈₄₅ 16:51, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Stale could also mean that the most recent ip socking is old enough that the reviewer does not feel an IP block would be productive. Monty₈₄₅ 16:54, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Troubles with inflation

OK— you are using 1,200 rubles (${{Inflation|US|38.46|1837}} as of {{CURRENTYEAR}}) to show 1,200 rubles ($1036 as of 2024), thus you are using a conversion of 1.5 rubles to the dollar in 1837. Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (Moscow) is comparing rubles in 1895 or 1901-1911 to US$ in 2012. So there is both conversion and inflation included in the comparison. Rubles in 2012 are worth much less than US$ in 2012. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:20, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

I would like to know why the aforementioned has such a huge difference between these two currencies. Why is rubles less than dollars in the sandbox article while in the Cathedral article it is vice versa. I answered your second post. Regarding your first post, you didn't say from which converter you got 38.46 in "1,200 rubles (${{Inflation|US|38.46|1837}} as of {{CURRENTYEAR}})". It looks like the current exchange rate: 1,200 rubles in 2012 are worth around $38.46 in 2012. (${{Inflation|US|38.46|1837}} computes something else: What $38.46 in 1837 would be worth today in US$. That's not what you want, because the exchange rate was different in 1837. We either need the 1837 exchange rate, or we need the rubles inflation from 1837 until today, and then we can convert it to US$ today. I don't know where to find the needed info. Swinton and counties

The article on Swinton seems to claim it as being in "Greater Manchester" when it is in Lancashire.

How do I correct this please?

I typed "Swinton, England, United Kingdom" into Google maps and it showed up in Manchester. Try asking here anyway. History2007 (talk) 13:40, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Huggle

Hi. I'm trying to use Huggle, but it says "Huggle is not enabled for your account" every time I try to log in. I already have the coding for it in User:TBrandley/huggle.css, and am a rollbacker here. TBrandley 15:24, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Try enable:true in User:TBrandley/huggle.css. I think enable-all:true is a global setting at Wikipedia:Huggle/Config to say that Huggle is allowed on this wiki. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:36, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Can't find my article draft that I just made

I am logged in as username = Davellan

I went ahead and made an article draft called "Kimura Trap System"

I saved the file, and was trying to find out how to publish it, when wikipedia wiped out the article for me. I couldn't go back to it, and I can't find it anywhere. I have a few hours working on it just now, so I am pretty pissed that it can't access the article even though I have been saving it on the editor.

It's not listed in your contributions and it hasn't been deleted. Could you have received an error message, perhaps that it contained a blocked link? RJFJR (talk) 16:47, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Special:Contributions/Davellan shows no saved edits since April. I see you uploaded File:Head Scissors off the Kimura Trap.jpg to Wikimedia Commons but that is your only recorded activity. Maybe you clicked "Show preview" instead of "Save page", or maybe the page you saw after clicking "Save page" included a message about a problem. For example, if your page contained external links then you should (due to not being autoconfirmed yet) have been asked to enter a CAPTCHA before it was saved. If you were logged in to this account and you cannot retrieve the edit box with your contents by using your browser back button then I'm afraid it's lost. If you may have been logged out when you saved then try logging out now and clicking Special:MyContributions to see edits saved under your IP address. I understand your frustration and sorry if I sound condescending but reports like this always seem to come from very new users. If there isn't an odd bug which only affects new users then they are probably misunderstanding something in the interface. I suggest copying your non-trivial edits to a text editor on your own computer until you are certain they have been saved. Logged in users can see their saved edits by clicking the "My contributions" link they have at the top of all pages. The "View history" tab at top of pages will show saved edits to that page. Renaming an image

Editing tools disappeared

I would like to have my tools again, and I actually see them for an instant, before it's overlaid by this new editing screen, which is fine, but it's missing some of the Wiki-markup codes that I frequently use. R.M. Engelhardt Article On Author

Hello,

I am doing an article on an author named "R.M. Engelhardt" and yesterday attempted to politely get answers from one of the editorial staff upon her talk page( Mdann52). What happened was that I received no feedback whatsoever from her & my talk was deleted from her page in asking specifics and for help with my first article. I searched her archives but it looks as though the talk was deleted. Could someone please, another editor get back to me here on Wikipedia who can please give me practical & helpful advice on my article. This is quite frustrating and would like to create more articles in the future. Thank you.

I would say it was not at all surprising, for your post made no reference to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/R.M. Engelhardt, and even if he had somehow found it, you had removed his decline. The instructions above the edit box on this help desk say "Please give the exact title or URL of any page you want help with." In addition, you claimed Mdann52 deleted the article. Only administrators can delete pages and Mdann52 is not one. The page is still there and was merely declined as an article. And please don't remove declines from the page. I have restored the code which displays the decline. Among other things, the box it produces contains a link you can click to make a resubmission. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:43, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

As general feedback on your draft: Mdann52 declined your submission because it was “not written from a neutral point of view”. Reasons for that may have included your characterizing the Saint Poem Reading Series as “popular” and writing about the “mission” of the Albany Poets. Another serious problem with your draft article is that it doesn’t establish the “notability” of the subject: most poets are not notable enough for an article in Wikipedia. —teb728 t c 23:48, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

I would just like to say that in the paragraph below the subject line it says that ivan velazquez caballero(known as el taliban)was captured on the 26th of september 2012 bringing the total to 24 out of the 37 most wanted captured or killed so far,which is infact not correct as it should be 25 out of the 37 as Jorge eduardo Costilla Sanchez(known as El Coss)was captured on the 12th of september 2012(it was definately him as he was in a photo being paraded in handcuffs in front of the mexican press/media after his capture)just thought I should let you know about this as it needs to be put in words(added to)before and in front of the words that mention the capture of ivan Velazquez caballero on 26th september 201286.159.153.146 (talk) 22:08, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
