What is Wikipedia's "Teahouse" for? (or meant to do?)[edit]

Thanks! Ramister (talk) 02:09, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Can I create an article with hardly information?[edit]

I am trying to create an article about a book named "Divinity," but the problem is, I lost the book in my house, and the only thing I can remember about it other than the story is that it had an orange and brown cover and was published by a publisher named "Jacob's Ladder." I looked this info on the internet, but I could not find it online. Could you please help? Ramister (talk) 03:00, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Ramister: Well, no, the article has to contain some actual information about the book other than the cover and publisher. However, considering you could not find info online, the book probably lacks notabliity Pppery 03:02, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Notability does not depend on information being online, the internet is a very recent invention. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 06:15, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There is or was a Jacobs Ladder Publications, active in the 1980s. Thing is though you don't even need to find the book - title, author, publisher and date would be enough - but for your article to be accepted you would need to find significant commentaries about it in respected publications, on- or off-line, or evidence that it had won major awards or been a best-seller. If you haven't already, please read Your first article and this page about "notability" in books: Noyster (talk), 11:09, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Why is the Page Curation tool shown on Donald Trump's article.[edit]

The Page Curation tool appears on the right side of the Donald Trump article. This is weird for it is not newly created or unreviewed, I have inquired about this on that article's talk page, but have gotten no response. It was not the case in the past few days, it just suddenly appeared. Don't know if I'm the only one. - CHAMPION (talk) (contributions) (logs) 05:51, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It was moved to draftspace by a compromised admin account and subsequently moved back to mainspace. Moves from draftspace are considered "new" by the article curation tool. Reach Out to the Truth 06:07, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Reach Out to the Truth: Is there a bug report about this, now I have no idea on how to file bug reports, or how to search for them. - CHAMPION (talk) (contributions) (logs) 06:10, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I would imagine that's desirable behavior most of the time. Drafts aren't subject to the same scrutiny, so if they become an article they should be reviewed like any other. The compromised admin accounts are being discussed at the administrators' noticeboard. Reach Out to the Truth 06:39, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Individual day stats at Pageviews Analysis[edit]

When you're viewing an individual article's daily hit counts at Pageviews Analysis (the basic link from an article's history page, e.g. [1]), is it possible to cause the software to display each day's hits numerically on the page? This was easy to do with the old service (example), and presumably one can get it by downloading a CSV report, so I'm guessing that they wouldn't have removed such a simple feature, but I can't figure out how to do it. Nyttend (talk) 12:52, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I guess you refer to the "toggle labels" link at http://stats.grok.se/en/201502/Asia. https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews does not appear to have that feature. I can see the number for a specific column by hovering over it. Downloading as CSV shows all the numbers. The two tools are developed independently by different people. I wouldn't say the newer tool "removed" a feature the older tool had. It just didn't make the same feature. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:40, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
MusikAnimal may be open to adding the feature though :) Sam Walton (talk) 00:48, 14 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Someone else just requested the same feature, so that's that... I'll make it happen! I did some quick research and there are some plugins to make this work with the Chart.js library we're using. Best MusikAnimal talk 00:53, 14 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Nyttend and PrimeHunter: Done! Use the "Show values" option shown at the top-right above the chart. I just deployed it, so if you don't see it give it a little time or manually clear your cache. Best MusikAnimal talk 05:29, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Thanks a lot! Since it was such a basic element of Hendrik's server (what could be more basic than "How many hits did this get yesterday", especially with DYK's template, I had guessed that it was actively removed for some reason. Nyttend (talk) 13:46, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A Vandalism on Meesha Shafi[edit]

Hi! Please see Talk:Meesha Shafi#Page Search. An abusive word "kh****" is being displayed on searching "Meesha Shafi". Please note it and update it, so that Wiki shows her name as "Pakistani singer/actress/model" instead of "Pakistani kh****". Thanks! M.Billoo2000 (talk) 15:49, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have changed the Wikidata description and replied at Talk:Meesha Shafi#Page Search. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Tool for making same edit again and again and...[edit]

Hi! I am looking for a tool that can save me from making the same edit to a long list of pages manually. It would have to work not only in en-wiki, but also in other wikis. What possible tools are available for this kind of tasks. Regards! --T*U (talk) 16:46, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello TU-nor, you could consider AWB as a possible solution for what you're looking. Thanks. Lourdes 17:01, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Quick answer! Thx! --T*U (talk) 17:06, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Piping in categories[edit]

I ran across 2011 Christchurch earthquake that uses piping in the Categories. I've never seen this before and and am wondering if there is a reason to do this. The effect I see is that the "piped" text is displayed when hovering over the category name. Is this useful. It strikes me as misleading. MB 17:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No, that's how categories are supposed to be formatted; the text after the pipe is the sort key which ensures that within the category the articles are listed in the correct order. ‑ Iridescent 17:37, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It's especially important with biographies, because we don't normally sort by first name. For example, if you put John Doe into Category:Men, you should use [[Category:Men|Doe, John]] so that he gets sorted as "D" instead of as "J". See also the DEFAULTSORT part of Help:Magic words; with {{DEFAULTSORT:Doe, John}}, we sort the article as "D" in all of its categories, without having to use a pipe in any of them. Here, [[Category:2011 earthquakes|Christchurch 2011]] is used because in a category of 2011 earthquakes, it isn't particularly helpful to sort by "2011", and "Christchurch" makes a lot more sense as the basis of the sorting, just as sorting by "2011" would make a lot more sense in a category for the history of Christchurch. Trouble logging in via Safari[edit]

Out of the blue I can no longer logg on via Safari/iPAD. Works still fine using Chrome/iPAD. No settings changed on the pad. Message say something about hacking. Attented to reset password, never received any email, but registered email address seems ok. KjellG (talk) 19:01, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What is the exact message? Ruslik_Zero 20:08, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for offering assistance. I reset all I could dream of, and now it works again. Had no problems for three years with pad. Made no adjustments to settings, then it suddenly failed? Anyway, it works, thank you. KjellG (talk) 20:32, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
