Preston Ridlehuber And UGA

Hi there! Are you referring to List of Georgia Bulldogs starting quarterbacks? Whatever the article is, the best place to ask your question is on the article's talk page (e.g. Talk:List of Georgia Bulldogs starting quarterbacks). It appears that Lynn Hughes was the starter at least most of the time in 1964. While Ridlehuber did play in some games that season, I can't tell from the current sources if Ridlehuber ever started or came in to replace Hughes from time to time. 1965 is similar, with Kirby Moore rather than Hughes. The newspaper articles do sound like Ridlehuber started a number of games, but nowhere do they flat out say so. Clarityfiend (talk) 02:13, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

How to cite a letter published as a separate file on a newspaper's Web site?

In the second para of Two-state solution § Non-governmental supporters of a two-state solution, I've written a sentence referring to a letter which has been published by the Washington Post on their Web site. I've cited both the Washington Post page which refers to the letter and the letter itself. Is that the correct way to do it? Misha Wolf (talk) 00:14, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

Yes, I think so, Misha Wolf. If the letter had received no coverage in reliable sources independent of the authors, then it would not be worth mentioning on Wikipedia. Please add a disambiguation widget

I've come across a pair of Wikipedia articles needing disambiguation widgets and am not sufficiently confident an editor to create them. Please could someone else do it. The articles are A Land for All and A Land for All (organization). Thanks

A site named "Wikiwand.com" has essentially republished my Wikipedia entry into their advertising supported site, is this legit?

I find my Wikipedia entries such as Earley Lake - Wikipedia has been totally copied with no attribution to https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Earley_Lake with tacky advertising imbedded. Is this legal/acceptable use? DannyBill7 (talk) 06:50, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello, DannyBill7. Yes, this is both legal and acceptable. When you contribute content to Wikipedia, you release that content under a free Creative Commons license that allows anyone to re-use that content anywhere at any time for any purpose, including adding it to profit making advertiser supported websites. That includes overpriced books, posters, t-shirts and coffee mugs. Attribution is the only restriction, and Wikiwand attributes their content to Wikipedia and its editors. @DannyBill7: They say "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" and have a "W" icon at top of the page with a link to Earley Lake and its page history. That counts as attribution. MediaWiki:Wikimedia-copyrightwarning is displayed when you edit. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:32, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

I'd put a *small* asterisk on this. It is possible within wikipedia's rules for someone to be paid to write an article by someone/something and then to submit it through the Articles for Creation process. Creating a blank talk page simply to turn the red link into a blue link doesn't seem like a great thing to go around doing. Adding a WikiProject banner to the top would probably be useful, though - you could do that. Worse, someone from your company in 2021 rewrote the article about LimeLife, a women-oriented digital media company, replacing all the information on that page with information about your company. Such behavior is not appreciated on Wikipedia. StarryGrandma (talk) 19:16, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

In any case, you should be aware of Wikipedia's stance on paid editors, which may explain the brusqueness you've experienced. [Edit Conflict] Thing is, Anna, you're not the first, or the hundredth, or the thousandth, or probably the ten thousandth company publicist to want to, bluntly, misuse Wikipedia to present your company in the best possible light. Quite simply, doing so is completely against Wikipedia's core principles, which amongst other things demand strict neutrality and forbid promotion.

We editors, all unpaid volunteers, have become very tired of battling against this attempted subversion of the project, and as a professional "Digital Coordinator", you could and maybe should have found out about all this before even posting here. Sadly, you have committed not one, but two "offenses". First, you are an undisclosed paid editor, as my colleagues have mentioned, and we have developed combat fatigue on this issue. Your second "offence" is far more grave: you hijacked an article about a different subject. If you choose to try to create an article about your company, please start afresh, and we may be able to help you. Start by declaring your paid status (WP:PAID). Next, make sure your company is notable by our definition (WP:NCORP). Notability is mandatory and we cannot retain an article on a non-notable subject. It doesn't matter how their text originated; when used within a specific article, they are interacting only inside that article, so if they are named, that name has to be defined within the same article – nothing in the software will search the other 6.7 million articles in Wikipedia to see if there is an identically-named reference somewhere else: if that were so we would have to be impossibly creative with reference names. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.205.111.170 (talk) 02:45, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

@JackkBrown: Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia is a guideline that encourages us to document where we've copied text from in the edit summary for attribution purposes. This search shows 8 articles with <ref name=bradt/>. Maybe you copied from the Cuisine of Abruzzo article? You can go to the article where you copied <ref name=bradt/>, copy the full reference, paste it into List of Italian dishes, and document the copy in your edit summary. Cannot archive posts from talk page due to blacklist warning

On 18 December 2023, I deleted the 50 oldest posts on my talk page and tried to put them in my‎ Archive number 55, I was prevented doing so and got "Your edit was not saved because it contains a new external link to a site registered on Wikipedia's blacklist or Wikimedia's global blacklist." I'm not sure what this issue is. Could someone take a look and put it in archive 55 for me? Thank you, Thriley (talk) 22:46, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

Thriley, I could do it, but I'd have to do as much work as you would, so no. What I'd do would be to attempt to add the first half. If the attempt brought an error message, then I'd try to move just the first quarter. If that brought no error message, I'd know that the problem was in the second quarter. The problematic link would probably be conspicuous by this point; but if it wasn't, then I'd try to move the third eighth ... you get the idea. Anyway, once you've found the rogue link, you can space it into unusability: "racistfrothingatthemouth . com" or whatever. Or of course just delete it. -- Hoary (talk) 22:57, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

How to get in touch with reviewer of a rejected draft?

Hi Wikipedia,

I tried submitting an article on a subject I feel confident writing about: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:SAP_Sailing_Analytics. The submission got rejected, also after two rounds of updates trying to comply with the reviewers' suggestions. I don't think that a Ctrl-F search through the text body of a reference is a good way of finding out whether that reference actually confirms or supports the article's statements. I would like to discuss this with the author. However, being new to authoring a Wikipedia article, I don't know how to get in touch. Please assist.

Axeluhl, I see you posted on Johannes Maximilian's talk page today, but they haven't edited since yesterday, so hopefully they will respond in due course. Art Venegas

submitted a page about Art Venegas, the track and field coach. When I checked in today, I learned the page does not exist. Does this mean that the page is under review, or does it mean that you didn't receive my submission? Please let me know, as I believe Coach Venegas is very worthy of an article on your site.

Looking at your contributions, the only edit you made prior to your post here is to a sandbox of yours, which is a sample page. @Eric-Dieter, did you click "Publish changes"? ayakanaa ( t · c ) 00:35, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

I can find no trace of such a page in any of our logs. I guess you never saved it. I admit it's a bit confusing but you have to click "Publish page" to save a new draft page, and "Publish changes" to save changes to an existing draft. The buttons have the same labels in live articles and drafts. "Publish" means it becomes visible to everybody. Private drafts don't exist. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:44, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
