Page previews when hover over links?[edit]

Trout me if you need to.

I don't know whether I should put this in technical or misc or here, but I haven't been seeing the page preview when I'm hovering over links. Like, maybe twice randomly today I've seen it, but not much. Just me? and if it is, any way I can fix it? Quantum684 (My talk page) 00:21, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@684pika: If you are logged in when it fails then is "Enable page previews" selected at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering? If you are logged out when it fails then do you have "Edit preview settings" at the bottom of pages? PrimeHunter (talk) 10:12, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Logged in, and yes I have that on. Quantum684 (My talk page) 14:22, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How to make my user name stylish?[edit]

My current one looks so classic, I want my name personalized. What can I do for that? Thanks for taking your valuable time to assist me. Whoop whoop beep beep (talk) 02:00, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Whoop whoop beep beep: You're going to want to take a look at WP:CUSTOMSIG. Make sure to read the relevant guidelines and policies beforehand. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 04:01, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Making userboxes on my Userpage[edit]

I need help to create the list of userboxes down the right hand side of my userpage. I have been following the instructions to create a number of userboxes down the right hand side of my Userpage. I have inserted the Userboxtop then tried putting in a userbox template beneath it. I have done this in both Visual editor and Source. The problem is that the userboxtop seems to take all the existing content on my user page and include it in its template so there is now a new "frame" around my text on the userpage and the heading Userbox top is at the top, centred. Also, when I insert a user box underneath, it does not justify to the right margin but sits on the left. The instructions to insert userboxes do not seem to suit my userpage. It may be because there are a lot of tables on my userpage? Maybe the cursor needs to be in a certain place? Can an experienced editor who uses userboxes please start the userbox list going for me on my userpage by adding in userboxtop then one or two of the stats boxes on right side to get me started? I would like to have Active edits and Active articles on english wikipedia to start then I will look at how it was done and continue to add userboxes myself. See Wikipedia:Userboxes/Wikipedia/Stats and tools/edit count.LPascal (talk) 02:18, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@LPascal: I don't see any userboxes on your userpage, but you mention {{Userboxtop}}. You need to pair that with a corresponding {{Userboxbottom}} that follows your userboxes, maybe that will help you. RudolfRed (talk) 02:32, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally, Userboxtop has several options, including alignment (although the docs say right is the default, I haven't tried it)edited for clarity. RudolfRed (talk) 02:35, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Another editor went into my user page and started off the userbox list. It may have worked because they added userboxbottom underneath userboxtop and then the user boxes in between. The WP instructions say to put userboxbottom only after I have added in the userboxes, not at first. LPascal (talk) 03:01, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What was your purpose in removing Mechelle McCain's page?[edit]

Please put Mechelle McCain's wikipedia page back, if you have no REAL REASON for taking it down. Thank you. 2603:6011:853A:4469:3142:627D:F58C:F590 (talk) 03:42, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

...we never had a page on Mechelle McCain. ltbdl (talk) 03:44, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like Draft:Mechelle McCain has a history of being deleted and then 'refunded' the last 3 years... --Onorem (talk) 03:47, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As an administrator, I am able to read the deleted draft. That draft says she is the ex-wife of Mike Epps, which is confirmed in his biography. Having once been married to a notable person does not make the ex-wife notable. The draft said she was an actress in a film called The Fighting Temptations but the article about that 2003 film has a very long cast list and she does not appear on it. IMDb lists her as #34 in the cast as "Girl in Nightclub". That looks like a bit part. Based on what I know at this point, I do not see any evidence that she is a notable actress, and much of the coverage of her online is because her divorce from Epps was contentious. In my view, the deletion of the draft was correct. Cullen328 (talk) 06:20, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Weird issue with transparent images outside of infobox[edit]

I've seen this on multiple articles, such as Malroth, where the second image is not actually transparent. I think it might be because of the theme I use on Wikipedia, but for me, the transparent background is a white background. Is this a known issue? - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 07:08, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Are you using a dark theme? vghfr (✉ Talk) (✏ Contribs) 13:37, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am, yes. Does that affect how the transparency is displayed? - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 19:53, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. vghfr (✉ Talk) (✏ Contribs) 23:55, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Another article written weirdly… this time… it’s too many links.[edit]

 Courtesy link: Missed connection

I often write posts on the help desk. When I talked about Leros written weirdly in early March, these 2 helpers, @Martin of Sheffield and @Deor came to help. Thank you both for these edits! Send them both a WikiLove or a barnstar that says “For your contributions to Leros.” or other titles of your choice.

Hello. When I saw an article called Missed connections there was too much links. Everywhere. Does it contain original research or multiple issues? Also contains a quote box template from a California magazine. Can someone tidy up the article? Let me know if you done it. Then, check the edit history page and also ask who added those links and the quote box. (I’ve tried using Wikiblame, but it always asks for the start date.)2.103.231.248 (talk) 16:10, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Any answers? No one’s replied in a while. 2.103.231.248 (talk) 16:59, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It seems as though your concerns would be better raised and perhaps addressed at the article's Talk page, or at the relevant WikiProjects (which can be found at the top of the article's Talk page? I'm not sure why you're asking for assistance here? DonIago (talk) 17:09, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding Wikiblame, the documentation says "The search works backward from the Start date." In other words, just leave it at the default (today's date) if you want to search all edits. If you only want to search for edits before a certain date, then enter that date. CodeTalker (talk) 21:48, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But why does it have too many links? 2.103.231.248 (talk) 16:07, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can I get info on where I can request other users to check a page?[edit]

 Courtesy link: Daniel Kahneman

I've been asked recently to check over the page Daniel Kahneman to make sure it's good and has a NPOV, but I'm much too busy to check over it at this moment. Is there anywhere I can go to ask someone else to check over it? Muffin(talk page ain't working) 18:13, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox advice[edit]

Help finding and fixing a bunch of broken interwiki (wikisource) links[edit]

Hi,

we need some advice and/or help with the issue discussed in more detail at User talk:Dave souza § Wikisource links broken. In summary, the situation is this:

  • Wikisource pages for the Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District decision were created in 2006 and then cited likely hundreds of times across dozens of articles.
  • In 2019, these pages were merged in a way that broke all (?) of those refs. Some have been manually repaired since then.
  • How best to go about tracking down and repairing the rest?

Surely, such a situation is far from unprecedented, and there are more or less systematic methods to deal with it?

Cheers,

- 2A02:560:5829:B000:DC1D:983B:97AD:DA85 (talk) 21:12, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
