April 10[edit]

Openings/Endings[edit]

Why do shows have openings and endings? --Taraborn 00:54, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Otherwise, all they'd have would be a middle, and who wants to hear only the middle of a show. Shows should have a beginning, a middle, and an end (although not necessarily in that order, according to Jean-Luc Godard). -- JackofOz 01:00, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I knew many would misunderstand. I mean those intros and endings with music and graphics about the show, don't know if there's a more specific name. In the fan culture, the exact name is that: opening and ending. Please, next time read more carefully in order to provide a useful answer. --Taraborn 02:01, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's not that easy, Taraborn. Please, next time provide a question that isn't capable of a multitude of interpretations. If you knew many would misunderstand, I suggest it was your responsibility to phrase your question clearly and unambiguously, rather than just asking what you asked and hoping for the best. JackofOz 03:11, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth, I initially also thought you were referring to dramatic structure, but now I don't know the answer to your question. I would like to point out, however, that if you "knew many would misunderstand" and, at the same time, you didn't "know if there's a more specific name" then perhaps it's not necessary to lecture editors trying to answer your question about how they should read it next time. ---Sluzzelin talk 02:45, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A catchy song does make a show easier to remember. bibliomaniac15 03:00, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Taraborn is right, though: theme songs and ending credits aren't a good idea for every show. NeonMerlin 04:01, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I believe they are called title sequences and closing credits. Certainly there is some basic info that just about everyone wants to know, like the name of the show and the major stars. The title sequences also often set up the story, as in The Brady Bunch theme song. There is also, unfortunately, info that almost nobody cares about, like the name of the catering company, in the closing credits. StuRat 04:16, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to all and my apologies for any misunderstanding, I actually couldn't do much better. --85.50.237.254 10:51, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Contractually, the shows have to credit the people working on them. That requires at least an ending credit sequence. The beginning sequence is primarily to differentiate from the programming which preceded it. IrishGuy talk 19:34, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You find some programs do not bother having titles. Curb Your Enthusiasm doesn't I think, Seinfeld had very short ones. I suspect that having titles helps make a 22minute (whatever epsiode lengths are) shows easier to make as 60 seconds are already used up before you even start. As others have noted it helps to 'introduce' the characters and give people an idea of the type of show. It always gets me that The Sopranos has such a long intro title. You would think they'd give it up (to be honest i've only seen to series 4 so far so maybe they have). ny156uk 20:38, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A bit of an aside but still on the general topic... Monty Python's Flying Circus would sometimes have the beginning or ending credits take place several minutes after the beginning or several minutes before the ending of the humor content of the show. Re: Eva Avila[edit]

What's with the pronunciation of her first name? Traditionally, this spelling has been pronounced "ee-va" or "ai-va." If this pronunciation was given her by her parents or culture prior to junior high or middle school, that's alright.

If the pronunciation does not predate puberty, I would suspect it to be high-maintenance, attention-seeking behaviour along the lines of misspelling "Michelle" as "Michele" or mispronouncing "Camilla" as though it rhymed with "Pamela." —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.36.172.163 (talk) 05:51, 10 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Name this song[edit]

Hello, can anyone please tell me which song is played during the Oger Telecom TV ad, which is regularly played on CNN International (Europe, Middle East and Africa).

Additional notes:

  • When I downloaded the ad from the company's website (It's not big, don't worry), and played it in iTunes, it said in the "Composer" field: Atallah. I have search for "Atallah" and have come up with some French male artist on MySpace who calls himself "Atallah". I've also found a Turkish female artist who goes by the name "Christine Atallah". Both of these artists make the type of music used in the TV ad, however I would rather think it was Christine because near the middle of the ad a female person begins to sing in opera style, which isn't unusual for Christine Atallah to do...
  • There is a YouTube video also available, in case it could help.

So, if anyone is up for a nice old challenge, or if you just feel like helping me (you can see I'm not lazy as I've already done some research, hey) then please take on this quest to help me finding the name and artist of the song they used in Oger Telecom's TV commercial/ad.

Thanks in advance :P Adriaan90 ( TalkContribs ) ♪♫ 10:23, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jack Bender - life - is there more than one person so named?[edit]

Yes. I've edited Alley Oop since its illustrator is not the guy who directs Lost (TV series). jnestorius(talk) 18:27, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vernon Greene[edit]

Check out that item. Note that he worked on 'The Shadow' with a Jack Bender. There is a Jack Bender in Wiki, but of considerable stature - but nothing I can find is about his early career and I would really like to know if he is the Bender that was a 'Shadow' artist. What is the best way to go? --Dumarest 11:16, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Given that the film/TV guy is probably in his 40s/50s now, and the guy referenced in the Vernon Greene page was doing comic books in the early 1940s, it's clearly not the same guy. So the link in the Greene page needs to be fixed (a redlink will be created). I'll do that now. --Richardrj talk email 12:04, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've subheaded this section within the preceding one. jnestorius(talk) 21:11, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Guys, I was looking at the matrix reloaded earlier today and noticed some interesting trivia. I then went to the Matrix and Matrix Revolutions there was none! Can you guys come up with some for me please?

Also can you tell me if there are any errors in any of the films, i.e. out of place objects, out of context objects, contradictoins etc.

Thanks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.13.132.232 (talk) 19:40, 10 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

IMDB has trivia and goofs for The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, and Matrix Revolutions. IrishGuy talk 19:48, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As well as IMDb, moviemistakes.com is a good place to check for stuff like this. --Mathew5000 07:23, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mars Volta Fan Suicide Video[edit]

a while back like 4 years ago i found a video of a fan commiting "suicide" to the song intertiatic esp and i found the video very interesting, the suicide from what i could tell was not real but i would like to have a copy of the video and i have looked everywhere for it but to no avail. does anyone have it or know where i can get it? it was a video of him walking around in the dark for a while and then one scene of him in a forest? seems like wintertime with no or little leaves on the trees in maybe a northern region of the US and him hanging himself, or at least that's what he was trying to make it look like. anyone know what keywords i can put into a p2p or anything of that sort in order to get this video? 200.35.168.129 22:28, 10 April 2007 (UTC) Ag for MemTech[reply]
