Template Coding
If there's someone better than me at coding, which I highly suspect there is, I'd like to get assessment criteria included in our template. The code can be copied and modified as necessary from the WikiProject France template; I'm just not sure exactly what parts to use and don't want to mess up the template we already have. matt91486 17:36, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
OK, this is actually a more urgent problem than I thought. All of the article's I have tagged only have their talk pages appear in the Wikiproject category. How can I make the parent articles appear? I'll hold off on tagging more articles until we can get this code problem resolved. I wish I were better at it!

Collaboration of the Month
Do we want to do a collaboration of the month? I would propose that our first collaboration be European microstates, the parent article; it needs some work and I think it would be good to increase the quality of the article. Any thoughts from anyone? matt91486 17:39, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

European Microstates discussion from Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals
Description The European Microstates largely fall outside the bounds of existing WikiProjects. This WikiProject would be designed to increase the quantity and quality of articles about Andorra, Liechtenstein, Malta, Monaco, San Marino, and the Vatican City. Coverage could also be used on the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and other ambiguous sovereignty situations. Small countries need some more support. The scope of these countries is so small that it could be difficult to get large scale projects for each to maintain necessary activity, but there are similar issues for these countries and coordination between Wikipedians would be helpful.

Seborga
A template for this project was just added to the talk page for Seborga. As Seborga (see also Principality of Seborga is not recognized as a state by anyone of note, and "micronations" are distinguished from "microstates" in Micronation, is this appropriate? Same question regarding Principality of Sealand, which also had the template added. PubliusFL 20:36, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'd say that they can loosely fall under the scope, failing in falling under the scope of any other projects. Any other thoughts?
- Seborga and Sealand are definitely not sovereign states, and as a consequence cannot possibly be microstates. They're already covered under the micronations Wikiproject. Inclusion here is potentially misleading. --Gene_poole (talk) 05:03, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Activity
Does anyone have any ideas for how we can boost activity in this WikiProject? It's all well in good that we were created, but we haven't been able to get much done since then, myself included. Any suggestions? matt91486 18:08, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
- A few:
- Many users have infoboxes to indicate their nation of origin.
- User:CKnight16 indicates s/he is from Andorra.
- User:Gregoron is from Monaco
- User:Samuel J. Howard would like to live in Vatican City.
- You might contact them about possibly joining the project.
- The project is now listed on the Community Portal, which should draw a little more attention to it.
- Portals are a nice way to draw attention, if you wanted to create one on the various states.
- Maybe getting a bot to place the banner on all the relevant pages would be a good idea too.
- Creation of a barnstar, or, maybe, in this case, several barnstars, one for each state, might help too.

Proposal: WikiProject Europe
I was noting down the related projects for Wikipedia:WikiProject European Union and number of small European projects as I was going round. How do you guys feel about a parent "WIkiProject Europe" to link together as many European projects at the top (not merge, unless some fell the need to)? It could help discussion and cooperation between projects and possibly reduce overheads for the smaller ones. In addition for areas with no project of their own. Where a project has few members or is inactive, a common peer-assessment could help them move forward.

Sealand

Historical microstates

Luxembourg not included?

- Definitions of microstates are nebulous at best, but the biggest reason it's not included is that I approached WikiProject Luxembourg to see if they were interested in affiliating like WikiProjectMalta has, but they were not. WikiProject Sealand
In the past there has been many disputes as to whether Sealand is a micronation or a microstate. For NPOV, all Sealand articles should have both POVs. To solve this dispute, I have created this. Sealand needs a WikiProject so that this dispute won't continue and all Sealand articles will represent both Sealandic micronation status and Sealandic microstate status. The constant dispute has meant that the article has been changed significantly. Sealand is part of both WikiProject European Microstates and WikiProject Micronations, and the creation of a project would require about 10 Wikipedia users, 5 for a sub-project. Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme
As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.
- The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
- The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
- A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.
Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.
Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. Coordinators' working group

GA Sweeps invitation
This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.
We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.
If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. There's been BLP issues with this, and OTRS complaint, and a lot of rather shoddy editorialising. It would be good to get some eyes from this project on it (watchlist and re-writing). She's certainly notable and there's material we can use. But do remember she's a minor, so her "legitimacy" needs carefully handled and any personal information needs to have clear relevance. Hi. As you may know this template is used in articles for large countries as well as for microstates and overseas territories, some of which comprise of a single city (i.e. Monaco or Gibraltar). I therefore believe that there is scope for an additional parameter to be added to this template in order to allow a skyline image in the case of city-states as is used in Template:Infobox settlement. I proposed this at the template's talk page some time ago but was simply ignored. So I thought this would be the appropriate place to rekindle this... Would you guys support this? Micronations WikiProject tagging
I am not a member of this project, so I do not think it is appropriate for me to remove this project's templates from possibly out-of-scope pages, but should Category talk:Micronations be removed from the aegis of this project? Micronations are not real countries, and I suspect that the editor who added the template is one of the more enthusiastic proponents of equating micronations and microstates in an effort to legitimize the former (at least on Wikipedia). If one of the members of this project decides to remove the template from the catagory, I suspect that it would receive consensus that it was appropriate. WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

Women in Green's 5th Edit-a-thon
Hello WikiProject European Microstates:
WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2023!
Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
