Key is an unincorporated community in Dawson County, Texas, United States.[1] According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had an estimated population of 20 in 2000.
History
[edit]Key had 10 residents and three businesses in 1930. The local Baptist church joined with the Pioneer Bethany and Mount Olive churches in 1914. It burned to the ground in 1923, causing some members to move three miles south to establish a new Baptist Church in Midway, while the rest of them stayed in the community and built a new church, which was expanded in 1948. The year prior, the community had 75 residents served by the church and five businesses. The population stayed at 75 in 1950, then went down to 40 in 1980, before ending at 20 from 1990 through 2000.[2]
