777 New Cabins

on air India 777s, add “All to be refitted to latest generation cabins by 2022”.

VT ALW and ALX are the late gen cabin 777s.

Please change $840 to $180,000 in the "As Tata Air Services" section

In its first year of operation, the airline flew 160,000 miles (260,000 km), carrying 155 passengers and 9.72 tonnes (10.71 tons) of mail and made a profit of ₹60,000 (US$840).

₹60,000 in 2020 is about $840 but ₹60,000 in 1932 was approximately $160,000. The Rupee back then was pegged to the Pound @ 1 GBP = 13.33 INR. The USD to GBP exchange rate in 1932 was ~ 1 USD = 0.2 GBP (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tables_of_historical_exchange_rates_to_the_United_States_dollar).

So ₹60,000 in 1932 would be 60,000 ÷ 13.33 x 0.2 = $159,960 which we can round off to $160,000 (roughly $3 million in 2020 dollars).

The info box says "Commenced operations 29 July 1946; 76 years ago". This is incorrect as per the original source cited.

Operations began on October 15, 1932 (as Tata Air Services). It was renamed Tata Airlines in 1938 and later Air India in 1946.

Source (B) is most comprehensive. Be sure to click 'Keep Reading' at the bottom of the page for the entire article. The video on the page, provided by Government of India also highlights the above information.

Hi Dhruv1710. The infobox already says when the group was founded above the "commenced operations" line. From what I can tell, in 1932, Air India did not yet exist, but the company that would become Air India did, therefore the company was founded, yet the operations of Air India had not yet started.
The article does go into the history of the company – in fact, the second paragraph of the article says the airline was founded by J. R. D. Tata as Tata Airlines in 1932, and that Tata himself flew its first single-engine de Havilland Puss Moth, carrying air mail. The 1932 date refers to when the company was founded (which had many different names), and the 1946 date refers to when the airline named "Air India" started operations.

"Urination and Other Incidents" sounds extremely stupid to read by itself considering the entire page lacks content in the first place. Please change it to something more professional for an open-source page like "Civil Incidents" instead, and add more if you have to, otherwise, its existence seems really out of place considering there is always news about Air India and somehow only this was added; portrays the admins of this page in a feeble light after discussing it with multiple people. The images of the new Air India logo unveiled on August 10, 2023 have been added hastily in recent edits to this article and in an incomplete manner. Hence these edits must be reverted until the whole article is updated in a comprehensive manner. For example, under the heading 'Corporate affairs and identity', the text below the new logo still reads 'Current logo (since 2007)'. Similarly, the first paragraph under 'Logo and livery' describes the current branding, due to which the hasty addition of the new logo looks out of place and presents the article in poor light. It is also noteworthy that Air India is yet to apply the new branding in its official website and would start appearing in its aircraft fleet only starting December 2023. Fleet Numbers

The Air India fleet article says that Air India has 130 aircraft with a given source, which is regularly updated. It is clear that Air India's own website is not. We can't have 2 articles on the wiki contradicting each other. Arnav Bhate (talk) 09:00, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

Normally, yes, there should be one fleet number. Air India website used to list the seat configuration and count, but alas, now the same is not available. In this case, the website which is the official source states the number as 128 whereas does not list the aircraft type with count. Because, that is the official version, I believe that should be the number listed. Other sources are self-proclaimed sources which vary across e.g. 1, 2. Even the source (1) which has been used for updating count in the Air India fleet article does not reflect the correct future orders. As the article mentions the discrepancy as a footnote, we should stick with the official number for the count (which is mentioned in the lead of the fleet article as well) unless we have a better uniform source which gives the correct number.Magentic Manifestations (talk) 10:06, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

Even though Air India was praised for hiring liberal, modern women as air hostesses in the early 1950s, it was accused of only hiring women of a certain caste and class.[1]
