The "early life" and "collegiate career" sections aren't very long; maybe merge them, making "collegiate career" a subsection of the "early life".

"Cincinnati ultimately defeated the Pirates and moved on to the World Series, where they would play the Oakland Athletics for the league championship." This sentence ends a paragraph, but there's no citation.

[1] - some details from this. That he went 3-for-34 before being sent down with the Brewers. That he hit .280 with Nashville in '90. That he made 8 regular season appearances with the Reds. There's also a nice quote by Bates about his baseball career in the article that could be included

- I see in the article where it says Bates went 3 for 34 before being sent down with the Brewers, but Baseball-Reference has him going 3 for 29 with the Brewers. I checked the game logs, and all appear with the Brewers continuously. I believe the author just looked at the overall line on Baseball Reference, which is 3 for 34, but that includes Cincinnati statistics as well. I already mention he batted .103 over 29 at bats so I think I'm covered. Therapyisgood (talk) 15:30, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This NYT piece has an interesting bit about him hitting a key double after switching from batting left handed to right handed for an at bat in a game against Arizona on the way to the CWS (I was able to sneak around the paywall. If you can't, ask at WP:RSX and somebody can probably add it to the article for you.

I think this is looking better. I'd recommend making another run to make sure you've gotten everything out of the sources. The college career is the part that looks the thinnest (mainly 1984), but tbh I'm not finding a terribly large amount of coverage for it. Hog Farm _Talk 03:40, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
