Descent[edit]

He is of Madagascan and American Indian descent. Maybe it's mentionable. http://www.local802afm.org/2012/12/bob-cranshaws-heart-and-soul/ 88.134.37.130 (talk) 19:06, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Death[edit]

Cranshaw has reportedly died, according to unreliable sources such as Facebook. There have been several edits to this article asserting that he has died, but not citing any sources at all. I've yet to see it mentioned in a reliable source; this French-language article only mentions that he died on Nov. 2, but no mention of how, where, who reported it etc. which one would expect from a reliable news source. More to the point, Wikipedia policy regarding living persons says that "anyone born within the past 115 years is covered by this policy unless a reliable source has confirmed their death" (see WP:BDP). -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:10, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Sonny Rollins' official Facebook page reports that Cranshaw has died. In my opinion, the news is likely to be true, but I don't think we should cite it as a source based on WP:SOCIALMEDIA: "Self-published and questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves, usually in articles about themselves or their activities, without the self-published source requirement that they be published experts in the field, so long as . . . it does not involve claims about third parties" (Cranshaw would be a third-party in this case). I strongly suggest we wait for a news article that provides details. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:21, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've found a source: Billboard, 2016-11-03. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 20:41, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
