Disamb.

[edit]

There needs to be a Borderlands disamb. page, and the individual game infoboxes need to link to this series page. -2601:640:C400:BAA0:A8A9:B95B:6801:6B4C (talk) 23:31, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Borderlands (series)Borderlands (video game series) – There exist other series of things, including Borderland (book series) and a series of short story anthologies edited by Thomas F. Monteleone called Borderlands. Cnilep (talk) 04:07, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As I read SMALLDETAILS, that relates to disambiguating titles without commas or parentheses (such as Airplane! versus Airplane). For titles with parenthetical disambiguators, I don't think there is any profit in having a small detail outside the parentheses plus an ambiguous parenthetical. Cnilep (talk) 03:46, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Zxcvbnm how is (series) a correct disambiguator for a video game series? In ictu oculi (talk) 15:00, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
"Series" works for any kind of series. Per WP:CONCISE, we don't need to say what type of series it is unless there are multiple series that share the same name, in which case I absolutely think it makes sense to further disambiguate.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 01:36, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 8 July 2023

The result of the move request was: no consensus. Participants were split over whether the existing spinoffs were significant enough to justify the proposed move, preventing a consensus from forming in either direction. If and when Borderlands (film) is released, this topic should probably be revisited, as several participants based their !votes on the film's unreleased status. Borderlands (series)Borderlands (franchise) – Safe to call it a media franchise when there are numerous comics, books and other spin-off material. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 14:15, 8 July 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. CLYDE TALK TO ME/STUFF DONE (I will not see your reply if you don't mention me) 02:52, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Wait The current set of spinoff material is not notable on its own, more incidental to the video games, but when (if?) the film comes out, then the move makes sense. --Masem (t) 14:22, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support regardless of the notability of the spin-off material, the fact that such official spin-off material exists shows that it is a franchise, where such spin-offs are not direct novelizations or soundtracks. The origins comics shows such, as not a comic novelization. -- 67.70.25.80 (talk) 23:51, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wait - while the spin-offs exist, they are not notable alone. Per Masem, wait until the movie is released - and receives RS coverage - before such a move. The games are still (by far) the primary topic, so for now series is acceptable. Couruu (talk) 14:17, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Pull the bandaid off. Even if the comics, novels and table top game aren't independently notable from Wikipedia view for WP:GNG, they very much exist, and the film is already seen as notable regardless of its release (is that really in question?). There's no question this is a franchise, and the film's release doesn't make it "more so". -- ferret (talk) 14:26, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Re the film, yes, it is in post production hell and thus its release is not assured. See [1]. Masem (t) 23:13, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Notability is not based on release status (Wikipedia does not generally give WP:CRYSTALBALL assumptions of notability to things that aren't notable yet). The film has a page, therefore I would assume it's notable regardless of whether or not it ever releases, and is proof of a franchise. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 04:02, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support if the move is in conjunction with restructuring the article to place the video game series under its own section and retargeting incoming links which refer primarily to the video game series there (for example see template {{Take-Two Interactive}}) and the ledes for Borderlands (video game) and Borderlands 3). I'm imagining a layout similar to Final fantasy or Pokémon. ― Synpath 22:33, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support because that is what it is. I am not sure why the other media spin-offs not being notable on their own makes it not a franchise. ~Cheers, TenTonParasol 05:31, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - (series) is an incredibly vague disambiguator. -- Netoholic @ 08:57, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Indifferent. It's both a game series and a franchise, and what we call the article matters little, although frankly apart from the games there is very little of substance to the franchise. Sandstein 14:27, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - Series and franchise effectively mean the same thing but the word franchise feels bad in the mouth. Axem Titanium (talk) 22:52, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Maybe when / if a movie comes out, but the non-game spinoffs are so minor and obscure that they don't feel relevant. A few low-print run comics hardly makes a "franchise." SnowFire (talk) 15:47, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - Given how prevalent product licensing has been for the past several decades, and how much more commonly the term "series" is used than "franchise" in general, it seems clear to me that it takes more than the simple existence of licensed products for a property to meet the generally understood definition of a "franchise". And since what we're discussing here is a proposed change of disambiguation, whether or not the general public thinks of Borderlands as a franchise is what counts. The notability of the film does not matter if it's not released, since I can't imagine anyone thinking that a property becomes a franchise because of an unfinished product.--Martin IIIa (talk) 02:47, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
