[edit]

When I moved to this the namespace, it cut off, my FULL comment. So here's what I meant to say in the edit summary:

Moving to mainspace. I've been working on this page since March 3, 2023, even mentioning it here. For this page, I primarily used information from the History of LGBTQ characters in animation, History of LGBTQ characters in animation: 1990s, History of LGBT characters in animation: 2000s, History of LGBT characters in animation: 2010s, and History of LGBT characters in animation: 2020s pages. I loosely based the format/organization of LGBTQ themes in anime and manga page, with some changes on my own. As always, I welcome discussion on the talk page on this topic. Although this page isn't perfect, its better than the current array of pages, which have, sadly, become dumping grounds for LGBTQ characters.

Basically, IP addresses, primarily, had turned it into a dumping ground. Some other pages are like that too, but doing this huge merge was the first step. There was a lot of unnecessary stuff on those other pages which just needed to go. I spent a long time going through sources and writing this page, choosing some of the best sources I could. Surely, some shows are missed, but this is definitely a better place to start off from. I'd be completely open to splitting this page as well, and/or cutting it down. But, again, this is better than the mess which, I, unfortunately created some years ago. I created the pages in good faith, but they became such a mess, partially based on my own bad editorial decisions, that I didn't want to deal with them for a while. But, now I decided to take action BEFORE all the celebrations next month.Historyday01 (talk) 18:24, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Update#1. @User:Trystan, back in March 2023 you said "the focus on themes rather than characters seems more in line with the available sources, and would suggest an article that describes the evolution of the depiction of LGBT themes, rather than simply a roster of characters." I believe I followed your advice with this new page. Do you have any suggestions for improvement in this page I've put together? I'd like to make the page better but I want to proceed in the right way this time. Your suggestions would be helpful. I'd mention other people I pinged back then, but... none of them replied to my comment, so I'm not sure if I should ping them or not.Historyday01 (talk) 18:45, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Update #2: Looking through all the pages I merged into this one boldly, there were few discussions of note. The talk page for the main article had a comment by @User:Ufolaulu back in 2021 on improving the article and adding fictional animals to the article (that has been incorporated here, but does NOT need to be a separate section), On the talk page of the 1990s article, one person raised the issue of a database by Insider on LGBTQ characters in children's animation as a source, to which I said, in part, I personally think the database is a bit shaky as a source because the database doesn't cite any sources, but the stories...are generally better sources." There was little of note on the talk page for the 2000s or on the talk page for the 2010s page. On the talk page of the 2020s page, it was only asked if Amphibia should be included (the consensus was no). That's it. I'd be willing to a history merge from those pages if people think that would help, but personally, I'm not sure that is a good idea.Historyday01 (talk) 18:45, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
