Moving this article into Educational inequalities[edit]

I'm proposing that we merge this article into Educational inequalities. It is a specific subset of that article, and while it is somewhat poorly written (and possibly over specific) in its current state, I think that with some condensing and editing it could make a good addition to that article. It also includes some information outside the scope suggested by its title, which is already covered in Educational inequalities.

Discussion about this will occur in Talk:Educational inequality#Moving Inequalities in rural and inner city education into this article to keep discussion centeralized. LittlePuppers (talk) 01:03, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Section Clean-up[edit]

Hello, I am planning to try and clean up this page's section on academic achievement. I have been looking at articles to pull information from and wanted to share my potential sources.[1][2][3][4][5][6] Rachelrichardson01 (talk) 01:56, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Rachelrichardson01,
As you can see, I've been considering merging this article into Educational inequalities; however, if you're willing to improve this I'm fine with it staying. There are a few issues with this article as it stands right now (as you can see at the top of the article), and I'd like to emphasize a few of these to hopefully help you in your efforts on Wikipedia. I've provided some links in case you want more specific information about any of this.
  • Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, a tertiary source - so we try to take information from and reliable, secondary sources to cite (to ensure our information is verifiable)and summarize it, and not make original research (some paragraphs and sections in the article are currently unreferenced).
  • This should follow the tone of an encyclopedia article, not a college essay or journal.
  • We try to provide global coverage of our subjects - currently this article is focused around schools and research about schools in the US.
Those are just some suggestions of things that can be significantly improved in the article right now. I'd also appreciate it if you'd insert a short section summarizing this in Educational inequalities (using the template {{main|Inequalities in rural and inner city education}} to show this is a more specific article covering the topic) - although you are not obligated to do so. Please let me know here (I'm watching this page), on my talk page, or anywhere with {{Ping|LittlePuppers}} or {{U|LittlePuppers}} if you have any questions, and I'll be more than happy to help.
