Lead issue[edit]

Per MOS:LEADBIO, the first paragraph of this article's lead should summarize the key events of Comey's life with "due weight." Does Comey's political affiliation deserve half of the "due weight" granted in the first paragraph? I don't think so. Comey was not a politician whose party affiliation played an important role in his actions, and it seems that many other things are deserving of mention in this paragraph while his party affiliation is not. Should this sentence be removed and replaced by two sentences that summarize his tenure of Director of the FBI and the events surrounding his firing?Personnongratia (talk) 21:43, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

IG report[edit]

DarrellWinkler, as reported by the NYT journalist who has been covering the story from the start, the IG report contains ambiguities that remain to be resolved through further examination.

He's covering his because his original reporting turned out to not be as salacious as he first stated. Continuing to wight so heavily on the unfounded and now largely debunked July reporting from Schmidt gives the reader the impression that the original reporting may still be accurate. his original reporting was straightforward, not salacious, and as the reporter who broke the story, he is following it closer than others and can see nuances that elude others, which is exemplified by the IG saying they're still examining it, so it's not a closed matter soibangla (talk) 21:26, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Let's not print ad hominems against respected journalists. SPECIFICO talk 21:28, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Involvement in Purdue Pharma Case[edit]

In 2005, acting in his role as Deputy Attorney, Comey shielded the investigation of John Brownlee into Purdue Pharma and the opioid crisis it precipitated with the sale of its drug OxyContin. Purdue lawyers called Comey to question the investigation. After a four-hour meeting with Brownlee, Comey told him, "Brownlee, you are fine. Go back to Virginia and do your case." While the felony charges Brownlee was pursuing were eventually dropped, this was one of the first successful prosecutions of Purdue Pharma, resulting in a plea agreement with Purdue Frederick, Purdue Pharma's holding company.
