Overhaul

[edit]

Would anyone object to the adding of Spider-Man spin-offs (such as Venom, Scarlet Spider, Cloak and Dagger, etc) to this list. I feel it'd make it more comprehensive and more in line with the X-Men article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.96.18.133 (talk) 17:22, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have mixed feelings about this. I'm ok with adding Scarlet Spider, but feel Venom, and to a larger degree, Cloak and Dagger, have become much more independent from the Spider-Man brand, so I vote against adding them. However, if we're adding other characters, I vote for having sections per character and keeping the sections in roughly chronological order as now instead of the alphabetical order of the X-Men list Csrgamboa (talk) 23:28, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Merger

[edit]

Disagree As creator of the List of Spider-Man comics I have to disagree with the merger of List of Spider-Man comics with Bibliography of Spider-Man titles because both pages serve different purposes. The list serves as a definitive guide for all trade paperbacks ever released while the Bibliography seems a bit more detailed with information which includes information as to who wrote and drew the comic books. Dark88 01:12, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge If I understand the difference in purpose that Dark88 puts forward, I don't believe it justifies maintenance of two different lists: it does not result in different membership criteria for the two lists, only different details that are included with each item. Whitejay251 05:16, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merge I agree that the two articles seem to have basically the same information, and that they should be consolidated into one article. Fortdj33 (talk) 20:20, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merge I agree with Whitejay and Fortdj33 that Dark88's justification for two separate articles is insufficient. I would propose that the articles be merged under the List of Spider-Man comics article, because I believe that to be the title readers will find in a search. Clean-up

[edit]

- Added ISBNs to Amazing Spider-Man section. Began clean-up of formatting by breaking section up into Essentials and trades. Need subsections on Marvel Masterworks, Omnibus, etc. DC (talk) 21:37, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Added Marvel Masterworks books and more trades to Amazing Spider-Man section. DC (talk) 17:13, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Added, updated & cleaned-up remaining trades for ongoing series. DC (talk) 21:25, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Collected editions

[edit]

I've started the process of updating the collected editions, in order to eventually merge the content of List of Spider-Man comics into this article. The initial switchover for each section will be time-consuming, but when done the format will be similar to the collected edition sections of Bibliography of Avengers titles or List of The Punisher comics, and much more user friendly. Please check out the trade paperbacks section of Amazing Spider-Man reprints for an example, and I welcome any suggestions for improvement. Fortdj33 (talk) 18:57, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Split

[edit]

The collected editions list is gigantic. I think it would be good to split it.★Trekker (talk) 15:54, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No objections or other input? I think I'll go ahead and do it soon.★Trekker (talk) 18:02, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Just saw this. Not sure splitting would be good. Don't think there's any precedence for splitting into a collected editions stand-alone list. Matt14451 (talk) 18:11, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Doing it mostly because it risks becoming overly big otherwise. Like how they had to split List of The Simpsons episodes eventually.★Trekker (talk) 18:35, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I was involved in a similar example to that, it was only done because it was technical necessary, the episode tables wouldn't show on one page. This page is different as it doesn't completely consist of templates. Matt14451 (talk) 19:56, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fair, but it's still going to get hard to navigate the article eventually. I would prefer it if we would avoid that. I don't see why it would be against Wikipedia standards to have a list of collected volumes, manga series have them all the time.★Trekker (talk) 20:39, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Should wait for a consensus, especially without a policy, guideline or MoS. Matt14451 (talk) 20:53, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well I hope more people give input then.★Trekker (talk) 20:55, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, maybe link to this discussion on the talk page of the comics project? Matt14451 (talk) 21:05, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Will do that when I have the time over. Thanks for the talk.★Trekker (talk) 21:17, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Other Spider-Men

[edit]

Related to the Overhaul discussion above (but going the opposite direction), in the past few years Spider-Man 2099 (Miguel O'Hara) and Miles Morales (which appeared under alternate versions) moved to the 616 universe, but kept the "Spider-Man" name and already have some titles listed under Mainstream Continuity (though there doesn't seem to be much consistency for now). I took the liberty of grouping these for ease of reading (and added some missing titles). Do we want to keep these here? I'm for keeping their titles in this list but keeping a division between which Spider-Man each title is about Csrgamboa (talk) 23:31, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Additional Info

[edit]

I would love to see a list of Annuals as well, particularly since they have been released erratically, sometime share a title with another book, and at one point marvel stopped numbering them and just put the year on them such as Spider-man '98. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:48F8:4022:3CF:3827:9CF8:4287:DCA6 (talk) 17:19, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Title change

[edit]

Could this article be changed to List of Spider-Man comics due to its similarity to List of Superman comics and List of Batman comics?Malcolmlucascollins (talk) 01:54, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Other continuities designation

[edit]

I think there needs to be more quality control with the Other continuity titles. For one thing Spider-Verse 2014 #1-2 is listed twice in the regular 616 titles and here, and the spin-off titles are split between the two sections.

Also, I don't think Chapter One #1-12 belongs here- it was intended to be in continuity at the time it came out, and terrible though it is, it doesn't contradict anything and in fact the new origin was used in the titles. It's like saying Byrne's Man of Steel is OOC for Superman because it was overwritten later, or that Spider-Man pre-One More Day all belongs in the other continuity titles because it clearly didn't happen that way anymore. 2600:1702:820:7410:A0E7:8E91:46DE:D45E (talk) 18:34, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Spin-off titles

[edit]

What about a list for spin-off series? Things like Slingers, Green Goblin, Black Cat etc etc. A lot of these not only tie directly into continuity and are part of crossovers, but they have appearances by 616 Spider-Man. I would argue these are far more relevant than listing reprints or Spider-Ham or children's comics.

I would suggest a list for X-Men as well, which badly needs a place to see how many titles and teams there have been. 2600:1702:820:7410:A0E7:8E91:46DE:D45E (talk) 18:36, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
