LATIN jazz?

[edit]

Does it not place him in a ghetto to call his only genre Latin Jazz? He was elected "Best Percussionist" 8 times by Down Beat--not "Best Latin Jazz Percussionist." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 179.210.88.32 (talk) 13:38, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I would agree. Suggest just "percussionist" seeing as Vasconcelos played many styles with various artists. Jusdafax 04:54, 10 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Grammy awards

[edit]

Can we verify (beyond the dubious reference currently therein) that this individual actually won "eight Grammy Awards" please? The Grammy database begs to differ. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:13, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disputing the accuracy of the Bjork reference

[edit]

I’d like to dispute the accuracy of the mention of Naná Vasconcelos playing with Bjork, but I’m not sure how to proceed because I haven’t edited wikipedia before.

The idea seems to stem from a blog post by Ethan Sawyer where he claims that he saw Naná playing with Bjork in a youtube video. I contacted Sawyer and he sent me the links to the videos he wrote about. The links he sent were all from Bjork’s “Post” era in the mid-1990s. In one, where Bjork is on the Jools Holland show, some of the youtube comments also claim that Naná is playing. However, it is clear, as another youtube commenter also mentions, that it is not actually Naná, but rather Trevor Morais, a British drummer who looks a bit like Naná from a distance.

I wrote a biography of Naná (Naná Vasconcelos’s Saudades, Bloomsbury) and never found any other evidence of them collaborating during my 5 years of research. It is documented, however, That Trevor Morais was Bjork’s drummer in the 1990s. Here is his wikipedia page:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trevor_Morais

How should I proceed to properly request this change? Umbuzada (talk) 22:22, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
