Privileged position?[edit]

The Background section talks about how Pepper quickly lost interest but that his wife "used her privileged position" to get him to continue answering her questions for seven years. This sounds very weird, but I think it's just an odd way of saying that, since she was his wife, she was able to keep him on the project to completion, even though he wanted to quit. I guess technically being someone's spouse is a kind of "privileged position", but it's not usually called that and the term is not clarified in the article. It makes it sound like she had an illicit hold on him and forcibly interrogated him for seven years, possibly in some sort of hidden location where he was held captive or something. I'm fairly certain that's not the case, which is why I think that sentence needs a rewrite or at least a clarification. This is the same book that talks about his time at Synanon, which could well have included some form of kidnapping, so all the more reason to make clear what actually happened with his wife. --Cromwellt|talk|contribs 17:38, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Yennta and Cromwellt: Good points, Cromwellt. The text was added in this edit by Yennta, but that person's editing lasted 10 minutes, so we might not get a response. EddieHugh (talk) 19:13, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
