WLBSA[edit]

Hi. There was no Wikipedia (WP) reference to the Ladies' equivalent - the WLBSA - despite WLBSA being referred to in 8 separate WP articles.

So, I've added this line: "There is also a Ladies association - the World Ladies Billiards and Snooker Association (WLBSA) - with its own tournaments and rankings."[1]

I've left the full title in red (for now), expecting that, in time, the independent WP article will emerge. Please do feel free to expand on this first line or - better still - create the independent article.

Thanks, Trafford09 (talk) 12:33, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Barry Hearn[edit]

The article is seriously out of date, could anyone add something about what has happened after Barry Hearn took over? MathHisSci (talk) 17:48, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WPBSA and World Snooker Ltd[edit]

An anon radically changed the article, allegedly to clear up confusion between the commercial entity World Snooker Ltd, and the WPBSA organization, but also deleting all controversy-related information and sources, and making other undiscussed changes. I've reverted that [7]. However, the anon may have a point worth looking into.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  07:45, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict[edit]

The WPBSA and IBSF are having a quarell once again as WPBSA is trying to build an amateur division with the 2017 newly founded World Snooker Federation (WSF) that aims to take away all the (usually amateur) national associations from the amateur IBSF; the European EBSA already joined WSF and left IBSF in October 2017. The original 2013 aggreement within the World Confederation of Billiards Sports had been that WPBSA and IBSF would revive the original WSF from 1992, which had failed and had to be dissolved in 2004, as a joint cooperation, but in the following years nothing happened, and in 2017 WPBSA decided for disruption and took matters in its own hands by forming a new WSF and ignoring the ISBF. The WSF is not recognized by the WCBS and thus also has no IOC recognition. Negotiations in 2018 obviously failed, and instead the WPBSA reacted by discarding the professional wildcards of ISBF players. See:

Lead[edit]

  • The percentage symbol should be spelt out per MOS:PERCENT
  • Done.
  • "which organises the professional Snooker" - the word in bold does not need to begin with a capital letter
  • Done.
  • "and English billiards through World Billiards" - a full stop is missing to end this sentence
  • Done.

Overview[edit]

  • "The governing body for the non-professional games" - aspect of snooker
  • amended to "aspect of snooker and billiards" (could delete the "and billiards" though)
  • "Barry Hearn's Matchroom Sport owns 51% of World Snooker, and the WPBSA is the next largest shareholder with 26%." - the two sources attached to this do not mention shareholders. ANother source is needed for this particular claim

  • Also, another violation of MOS:PERCENT in the sentence above
    Amended.
  • "In January 2020, World Snooker rebranded as World Snooker Tour." - World Snooker was rebranded
    Amended.
  • When was Archer president of the WPBSA?

  • Done.

  • "a major growth area for the sport[25] and in other territories including Germany." - a comma is between inbetween "sport" and the citation
  • Done.
  • "Amnesty International criticised the announcement, due to concerns about the human rights in the country." - the word in bold isn't needed
  • Done.

  • Done.
  • "the WPBSA announced the creation of an All-party parliamentary group for Snooker," - the words in bold don't need to begin with a capital letter
  • Done.
  • Explain who Conor Burns is to the uninitated
  • Amended; let me know if it needs further change.
  • Change made is acceptable. 17:08, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Criticism and controversy[edit]

  • "The body has received criticism in the late 2000s." - the word in bold is not needed
  • Amended.

Will put the review on hold to allow the nominator to respond or query the points raised above. MWright96 (talk) 11:35, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
