Anwoth Old Church

  • ... that since it was built in 1626, Anwoth Old Church has been home to both a leading Presbyterian theologian and a gang of murderous pagan cultists? Source: The date is from Canmore, "The church was built c.1626". Samuel Rutherford's ministry there is well-established, sourced in the article to this Church magazine. I'm taking a bit of a liberty with the pagan cultists - that's a reference to the churchyard's use as a location for the shooting of The Wicker Man, which is referenced to The Guardian ("The village of Anwoth, in Dumfries and Galloway, is the home of the church ruins featured in the film..."). The plot summary comes from Empire, I believe that 'murderous pagan cultists' is a reasonable summary.
    • ALT1:... that Anwoth Old Church, the church where Samuel Rutherford preached in the early 17th century, was used as a location in the shooting of the classic horror film The Wicker Man? Source: Same sources, bit more boring but more accurate from a strictly factual perspective.
    • ALT2:... that scenes from the classic horror film The Wicker Man were shot in the churchyard of Anwoth Old Church, where Samuel Rutherford preached in the early 17th century? Source: Same sources again, moved the information around a bit.

  • Good work...New enough, long enough, no copyvio issues, QPQ provided. Proposed hook (difficult)...would prefer if the hook can be seen in the article. ALT1 ok. Can I suggest something along the Wicker Man being shot there, but still including Rutherford? Whispyhistory (talk) 16:15, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for reviewing Whispyhistory, I've moved things around a bit in Alt2, how do you like that? GirthSummit (blether) 16:46, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
  • Both ALT1 and ALT2 good, thanks. A thought to shorten (removed a few words from alt2) further below, but not sure if that would need someone else to approve it. Whispyhistory (talk) 06:40, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for reviewing, Whispyhistory, I'm happy for whoever promotes it to choose whichever of the alts they think best. I'm not quite sure about your ALT2a though, because it suggests to me that the whole film was shot there, whereas it was just a few of the scenes. I can't find reliable enough sources to list them unfortunately - there are fan blogs out there that got through the film scene by scene and tell you where they were shot, and I personally recognise most of the locations, but I can't find anything reliable that wouldn't require an element of OR so I've left it out. Thanks for the clarification. Maybe ALT1 is best as you originally proposed and ALT2 as back-up. Whispyhistory (talk) 10:13, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
