Talkback

Hello, BuickCenturyDriver. You have new messages at Salvio giuliano's talk page.
Message added 16:52, 29 May 2011 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

your report at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names has been closed

[edit]

I've closed your report there and will probably be removing it shortly. The reason is that both the directions at the top of the page and the edit notice that pops up when adding a report indicate that it is not a forum for reviewing blocks and that you must notify those being discussed. Re: Tonight

[edit]

Of all things, as the fates would have it, my lapto p caught a virus today! (I'm writing this on a cell phone.) Be my guest and add tonight's game (or someone else could do it, I just won't be able to); I can type this short message on a cell phone but this thing hates the huge window of the article page. My deepest apologies for simply adding to the confusion that I shouldn't have even stirred up in the first place! Just carry on with tonight's game as you normally would. Sorry for the mixup! List of admins

[edit]

You probably didn't know this, but the list of admins is run completely by a bot. It won't work to split up the list a different way without coordinating with the bot operator to have the bot understand the new layout. — Carl (CBM · talk) 11:46, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

I'll ask, though I don't know if they will approve the change being there are currently 4 users beginning with a number. –BuickCenturyDriver 14:03, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
No problem; the page isn't clearly marked as bot-driven, so how could you have known? Sometimes people who have been here too long (like me) take things for granted. — Carl (CBM · talk) 14:19, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

2012 season

I would like to bring to your attention the creation of 2012 Boston Red Sox season. Thank you. :) RedSoxFan274 (leave a message~contribs) 00:46, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

I was afraid of making the page too early, as last year it wasn't made until the 27th; little did I know some teams pages' were created significantly before the schedules were released. RedSoxFan274 (leave a message~contribs) 01:05, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

Today was bad enough a day when I woke up to find my grandmother had passed away (which is a totally different story) and then... well, you know.

Just wanted to thank you and gros hx4 and all the other folks who worked on the Red Sox' season page this year and for all the diligence that was put into it. I look forward to working with you again in that strange element so painfully familiar to Sox fans in the autumn months—"next year".

Have a great winter. :) RedSoxFan274 (leave a message~contribs) 05:46, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Edit Summary comments

[edit]

I'm referring to this: [1]

First, I doubt this is really the right place to make such editorial-ish comments, especially in lieu of a summary which should've mentionned it was just some minor wikilinking. :)

Secondly, Link, Zelda and the like, despite being overly popular Nintendo Characters, do not appear in Mario Kart because the characters in that game (just like Mario Party, and just about every Mario sports title) are ones in the Mario expanded universe, which is not the case for Link & co. I do think a "Nintendo Kart" or other misc. sport title including such iconic characters would be a valid commercial idea, but that's another debate. :p (PS: If any, reply here, I've watched.) Salvidrim (talk) 04:44, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Well it's very strange that the Smash Bros series which has almost all the Nintendo characters has Link and Zelda in it (and Samus too) but I think it would be silly to see Samus in a kart. but Link and Zelda should get a Mario Kart appearance. Also the cloud guy does appear in other Mario Kart game as the guy that holds the traffic light, so it';s rather strange to pick him to become the next playable character. . –BuickCenturyDriver 09:13, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
Nonetheless, edit summaries (or any article talk pages) aren't the place to express your opinion on who should or shouldn't appear in Mario Kart and why. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 11:29, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
I apologize. Unfortunately, edit summaries are etched in stone and the only way to remove them is to delete the page and restore it without the particular edit. –BuickCenturyDriver 11:48, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
Hey, it's no big deal in this case, really.. But Super Smash Bros. is a series that includes characters from the entire library of Nintendo games (Mario, Zelda, but also Earthbound, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Metroid, and numerous others), while Mario Kart/Party/Sports stick to characters from the Mario universe. That's just how it is, and any other way would just not make sense. It's Mario Kart, not Nintendo Kart. :) Salvidrim (talk) 18:08, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
BuickCenturyDriver, do it again and you'll be blocked. I've already warned you above for the same behavior. Eagles 24/7 (C) 19:28, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
Unless I am mistaken, the warning above was for a null edit, which was not this case (which was an actual edit). The content of the edit simply was not referenced in the edit summary, and the summary used for commentary. Salvidrim (talk) 19:37, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
The intent is still the same. The Mario Kart edit was basically a null edit for BCD to add commentary in his edit summary. Eagles 24/7 (C) 19:42, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
At this point I'd probably want the edit removed, given the confict it has caused. –BuickCenturyDriver 00:30, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
Blocking for that Eagles? Really? I agree it's not needed (and I'm happy to say clearly here - Buick, don't put your editorials into edit summaries - this isn't a forum) but let's not make a mountain of a molehill. I think Buick's learnt his lesson and threats of blocks seem unreasonable over such a trivial matter. WormTT · (talk) 09:40, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

File:New York License Plate.png missing description details

[edit]
Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as File:New York License Plate.png is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors to make better use of the image, and it will be more informative for readers.

If the information is not provided, the image may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:38, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

The article Sophie Clarke has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Per WP:BLP1E. Clarke is not notable outside of Survivor, and the article consists of information that can be found in Survivor: South Pacific.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed a file deletion tag from File:New York Empire License Plate.jpg. When removing deletion tags, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Userspace subpages

[edit]

Please don't create userspace subpages consisting of fake articles detailing your fantasy seasons of "Survivor", your fantasy episodes of "The Simpsons", or any other such stuff that I may have missed. This is not what Wikipedia is for, not even userspace.

I politely request that you add {{db-u1}} to these pages, so as to tag them for deletion by an administrator.

I also request that you do the same for your subpage endorsing William Thompson's 2009 Mayoral campaign. It wasn't appropriate in the first place, and it's certainly not appropriate three years after the election.

Thank you. DS (talk) 14:57, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

Dealt with; thank you for being so understanding. DS (talk) 14:46, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited John Carter (character), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Jim Hill (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 10:26, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Buick, you might have noticed that I reverted your recent edit to this list. The edit summary says it all: just because Bob McGrath plays a character named "Bob", it doesn't necessarily mean that he's playing himself. McGrath is an actor who toured Japan and sang for Mitch Miller; the character on Sesame Street is a music teacher who used to date a Deaf girl. Big difference, see? ;) Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 04:10, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

I figured it would be reverted, but at least he gets to be called "Bob" on and off the street. –BuickCenturyDriver 23:48, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
Yah, I guess it is. Although I hafta ask--if you knew that it would be reverted, why'd you add it in the first place? I'm old and don't have as much time left; I certainly don't need anyone to be wasting my time! ;) I'm being partly serious here, though. Please, if you think that an edit will probably be reverted, it's a good idea not to make it. If you have a question, ask it on the talk page, and if it's a reasonable edit that will improve the article, it will probably be okay. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 21:37, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

You added Super Mario RPG & Paper Mario to the list of games in the Super Mario (series), which is incorrect. In addition, both games are already linked to through Mario role-playing games. Salvidrim! 21:14, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

Red Sox log

[edit]

Do you think the stadium/attendance columns should be reversed in the game logs? I could see the support for such an argument, but when I made the log I was simply repeating what I did last season, and now I can't even remember why I put attendance before stadium last year. Do you know what other game logs with stadiums do?

License tagging for File:NewYorkYankeesLicensePlate.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:NewYorkYankeesLicensePlate.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. Non-free rationale for File:NewYorkYankeesLicensePlate.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:NewYorkYankeesLicensePlate.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — ξxplicit 22:14, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

Sorry your template was not used, I placed it in a note for the new season on the talk page for possible future use and okay. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 03:24, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
According to Survivor: Philippines's editing history, the template was used. the template was used on a misspelled article: Survivor: The Philippenes. It has since been deleted and so the template may be used for future seasons if it gains favour. Meantime, feel free to try it in your sandbox. –BuickCenturyDriver 03:31, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Survivor: "The" Philippines

[edit]

Just wanted to let you know that there is no "The" in the name of the upcoming US Survivor season. According to the screencap, it is actually "Survivor: Philippines". Apologies if I'm coming off as rude, just trying to help. - Katanin (talk) 03:29, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

No problem, if the official site does not use "The" then I don't mind moving it back. –BuickCenturyDriver 03:31, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
I think we should go by the logo right now, as that's what we've been using to determine the names for the entire series' run. The logo, as revealed, states "Survivor: Philippines", with no "The". An article already exists at Survivor: Phillippines (the incorrect spelling is noted in the talk page). We can discuss the name of the page in the talk page of that article. - Katanin (talk) 03:34, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I just left a request at Talk:Givanildo Souza to move the article back to "Hulk (footballer)". Please keep in mind that article names should be common names, not necessarily "real" ones. Most people go by their given names, but folks like Edson Arantes do Nascimento and Stefani Germanotta are better known by other names, and in those cases, we go by the more commonly used names. --Mosmof (talk) 02:38, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

Your username

[edit]

I'm pretty sure it is in violation of the username policy; WP:PRODNAME. You are clearly promoting Buick. --GoHuskies990411 (talk) 15:00, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Any feedback before it's submitted for review? --GoHuskies990411 (talk) 21:36, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Hello, BuickCenturyDriver. Concerns have been raised that your username may be incompatible with policy. You can contribute to the discussion about it at the page for requests for comment on usernames. Alternatively, if you agree that your username may be problematic and are willing to change it, it is possible for you to keep your present contributions history under a new name. Simply request a new name at Wikipedia:Changing username following the guidelines on that page, rather than creating a whole new account. Thank you. Request for permissions

[edit]

I have removed your request for "researcher" from WP:PERM/C, that is not the right place for this request. Please try here: Research:Special_API_permissions. Good luck, Mlpearc (powwow) 04:30, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Cameron Powrie, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Gormenghast (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Aden Services

[edit]

I've seen you marked the Aden Services page as "being considered for deletion". Would you be kind enough to mention the reason? Content is not duplicated and there is no suspicious link. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shan Su (talkcontribs) 06:50, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

The notability of the article was in question. Please see WP:COMPANY for more information. –BuickCenturyDriver 06:53, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Re: Survivor Phillipines

[edit]

Re your message: It is next Sunday according to the article reference. Besides the reference, you can also tell by the preview at the end of last week's episode. It was the standard preview instead of the longer "Here is the final castaways" style preview where they give a little mini tease about everyone. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 17:09, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

File:2001 New York License Plate.jpg listed for deletion

[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:2001 New York License Plate.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. A tag has been placed on File:Happy blues.jpg, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Unused Redirect to Fair-use image

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:33, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

New Page Patrolling

[edit]

Just wondered why you marked Crime Opportunity theory as 'reviewed' when it is improperly titled, needs a significant amount of markup-cleanup and contains a misplaced AfC tag? And that's before I've actually read the contents... Pol430 talk to me 17:39, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

Your recent edits to 2013 New York Giants season

[edit]

Hi there. Regarding you recent edits to this article: Please note that in 2010, the NFL implemented the so-called "West Coast" modification, so now clubs have to travel to play only one team based on the west coast (either Oakland or San Diego) in years they play the teams in the AFC West. Thus, per the rotation in 2013, as listed in the official 2012 NFL Record and Fact Book, the Giants will play away games at Kansas City and San Diego, and will stay at home for Denver and Oakland. Please also notice that this is also stated in the disclaimer at the bottom of the web site that you cited in your edit summaries, but they only chose to display them in italics instead of an outright update because they state that the changes "have not yet been announced" for some reason. In either case, many others would consider the NFL Record and Fact Book more official, reliable, and more current than a web site whose primary purpose is to provide PSL information. Regards.
