Cool deal :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:55, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Couls you take a quick look at this?

For some reason, an IP address from China has moved the page King Abdullah Design and Development Bureau from it's previous and proper name; King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau. This is confirmed by the company's own website; kaddb.com The page can only be moved back to it's correct title by an admin. Thanks - theWOLFchild 18:31, 30 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi Thewolfchild! Sorry for the delay getting back to you. Looking at the history of what I'll call the "KA" and "KA II" articles for short, it appears that "KA" is what this article has always been titled. I see that 隐世高人 moved "KA" to "Wikipedia:KA" on July 7, 2017 by mistake (and promptly moved it back). I see that "KA II" was created as a redirect in 2011. 隐世高人 blanked the page (probably as an attempt to try and "move" the page by copying and pasting the article text"), but the blanking was reverted. Afterwards, I see that the IP you mentioned attempted a copy-and-paste move by changing "KA" into a redirect to "KA II" and then changing the redirect from "KA II" to the text copied from "KA". Both edits were rightfully reverted by PRehse, since his attempt was performed incorrectly by copying and pasting the text manually. Other than this, this appears to be the only move attempts I've seen. I'd say that if you believe that the main article text should be under the "KA II" title and the "KA" title become a redirect instead, we should file a page move request and make sure that others agree with it first. In the meantime, I see that a move have been attempted by the IP, but not actually completed - the articles are the way they originally were titled as. If I missed something, let me know and I'll take a look. Cheers -- ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:11, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

I'm still confused with why you removed the content and why you believe that it doesn't make sense exactly... Can you explain so I understand? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:14, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

What is the strangest thing you have ever seen while revering vandalism?

I forgot what page this was on, but the person copied and pasted the ENTIRE script of Shrek into the article. THE ENTIRE SCRIPT! The page had nothing to do with Shrek whatsoever. What about you? . Lakeside Out!-LakesideMinersClick Here To Talk To Me! 15:04, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

The strangest vandalism I've reverted? Oh, man... the one that instantly comes to mind is an edit an LTA made (either to my talk page or the article itself) that took all the content from Lady Gaga and replaced a bunch of text and my picture in the content. The guy took a bunch of time to re-write a bunch of sections and text so that it was fluent and made sense grammatically. That I'll admit was pretty damn funny... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:18, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Referencing a company quote on a third party news site

Hi Oshwah

RE. Olam International - is it acceptable for me to include in the section on the Mighty Earth deforestation section, some quotes from a third party news outlet? e.g something like this? Olam issued its response [1] which was reported by publications such as the Singapore Business Times:""...Olam said that Gabon has about 33 per cent of its people living at or below the poverty, and its longstanding reliance on oil-and-gas revenues is not viable over time. "The government therefore has a justifiable imperative to grow the agricultural economy beyond just subsistence farming," said Olam, noting that 90 per cent of its land area is forested..... "Getting high-yielding plantations up and running requires an appropriate initial land base. Given much of Gabon's non-forested land is infertile savannah or swamps, there simply isn't enough available non-forested land to start up such a development," Olam added." [2] thank you Nikki NikkiBarber (talk) 17:12, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

References

Hi NikkiBarber! Thanks for leaving me a message with your question. Your specific example here looks to take a statement that someone said or made (either in public or to the source that you're citing) and that you wish to quote the person's statement, such as "Bob told ZBNV News, 'I am happy to hear about the results!'". So long as you cite the source immediately after that quote and that the source meets Wikipedia's guidelines for being reliable, that's completely fine and you're absolutely okay to do this. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Best -- ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:22, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Revision deletion request

I found this user [3] adding content that may fall under RD2. The page in question is Jerry Maguire. Thanks! Felicia (talk) 19:24, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi Felicia, and thanks for leaving me a message and for letting me know about this. The particular edit you're referring to here does not meet the criteria in RD2. It's not grossly insulting, degrading, or offensive in nature, and it's not a serious BLP violation, since the edit was made to a section about the plot of a film and about a character that's based off a real person, but not the actual real person. However, if you notice or spot any edits made to Wikipedia that you believe should be redacted, let me know by emailing me the information (so that your report doesn't draw attention to the specific edit by other editors that read your message). Thanks again for the message, and please don't hesitate to email me other reports if you feel they're necessary - even if you're not completely sure. I'd rather you say something and have it turn out to be nothing, than for you to not say anything and have a potentially bad edit visible to the public that should not be :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:34, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

User:John Abraham Awwab

Hi Oshwah. Would you mind taking a peak at User:John Abraham Awwab? I've left a message on his user talk page, but the account is not even a day old so I don't think they might know what that is. Anyway, at first I though this might be a userspace draft because of Draft:John Abraham Awwab, but the type of content being added seems to suggest that this is another new editor mistaking their user page for a personal online profile page. The correct, but perhaps a bit bitey thing to do would be to tag it for speedy per WP:U5 or to blank it, but I'm wondering if you might have another suggestion. If by chance, this is really a draft, then I think it would be better for him to work on the one in the draft namespace and cleanup his own userpage accordingly. Thanks in advance. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:56, 7 December 2017 (UTC)

Never mind about this. It appears this editor has been socking to evade a block for previously trying to add content about himself to Wikipedia. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:33, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

This is (was?) a bit unusual because even though the editor has been blocked for continuously trying to add this content, they continue to try and submit in through AfC. This seems like an unusual path to take if you're trying to sneak something by others, so I'm not sure what to make of this editor. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:54, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
Marchjuly - It could be someone whose completely unaware that what they're doing is against policy - maybe a non-native English speaking person? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:12, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
I thought as much, but I think he is claiming to be a research scientist, so I am assuming a high level of education and a fair understanding of English. Or course, who he claims to be and who he really is might not be one and the same. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:18, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Request

Please add the word "Gaikwad" to the edit filter blacklist/disallow because there is persistant vandalism on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs 2017, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. Thank you. 116.74.62.50 (talk) 06:05, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

I don't think that your request would resolve the particular disruption on those articles. It also would have the potential to generate more false positives and issues than any disruption it would prevent. If disruption continues on these pages, report repeated vandalism to the Administrator intervention against vandalism noticeboard, and feel free to request page protection here if the disruption begins to occur at a high rate of speed (multiple edits per hour and by multiple people). Remember that we only protect pages in a reactive measure when a high amount of disruption is current in progress; we don't protect articles in advance or when we think that it'll be needed soon. If you have questions, feel free to respond here and ask me them. Cheers -- ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:56, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

advice for new editor

Hi Oshwah,

With your experience i wondered if you would help me understand how to correct a long standing problem. There is a clearly biased BLP article here on wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azad_Ali There were un-verifiable defamatory statements I noticed and every citation is from negative newspaper articles by well known islamophobic MS journalists. When I researched it I see they have been refuted by the person in question on his own blog http://azadali.blogspot.co.uk/2015/07/fyi-clarity-on-repeatedly-published.html?m=1 and published in the UKs Muslim online media https://5pillarsuk.com/2015/07/14/azad-ali-responds-to-the-media-slurs-against-him/ He has even tried to edit it himself by the look of the history page but it has been reverted back. If the article had started off neutral and then it had been changed to what it is now then no doubt it would be called vandalism, as it was biased from the start, to now make it neutral would be perhaps considered vandalism or there is needed some way to stop it being reverted back. As it is it feels like wikipedia is being used to further a biased agenda to smear some Muslims who are in the public eye which would be a terrible thing if true, especially with a BLP surely it is vital to give a balanced and accurate picture.

So what can be done about it? I have made some edits already, i would be grateful if you would have a look and give me some feedback. I will look up the other elements on the page and look for some more verifiable information to add about the person. I would be grateful for your feedback Aathomson (talk) 21:51, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

If you look at the history of that page it was created by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Indiasummer95 and the users sock puppet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:T%C3%A1t%C3%B3t%C3%A1t Looking at the contribs of the other sock puppets there are many contribs around the same time that suggest an agenda of playing down islamophobia and negatively portraying prominent Muslims including vandalism such as adding a picture of Jimmy Saville to the page of Mo Ansar https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mo_Ansar&diff=prev&oldid=590410605
The user appears to have done a web search for anything negative they could find being said about Mr Ali and has created an article summarising it with no more regard for facts than the newspaper writers. Considering such a low starting point its not surprising that it appears that just starting again would be the way to go. I'd really appreciate your input.Aathomson (talk) 00:25, 10 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi Aathomson! Sorry for the delay getting back to you about your message here. Life has kept me busy lately :-). I would start a discussion on the article's talk page with your concerns regarding the neutrality and wording of the article, which it appears that you've already done. You could also start a discussion on Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard and state your concerns there as well (make sure to link them to your discussion on the article's talk page). This will allow other editors to take a look at your concerns and provide input and consensus. I'll take some time and give the article a read-through and see what neutral point of view and biographies of living persons violations and concerns exist, and do what I can to resolve them. Regarding the other editors involved: have you left messages on their talk pages and voiced your concerns? Did you attempt to help educate them if there were policy violations or problems? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:09, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi Oshwah, thanks very much for the reply. After asking you I had a look at the BLP guidelines and it really seemed like most of what was there was in violation as it was all contentious and based entirely on tabloid journalism. It would be a tragedy if wikipedia was no more reliable than a summery of opinions of tabloid journalists! So I hunted down the original sources which the journalists were writing about and used those links for those issues and tried to give a neutral summary of the points. The subject of the article has been given a hell of a time by the media so it was quite a job to work through it but i think it's fair now at least. There aren't any previous editors around to talk with i think, the bulk was done by someone now banned, it looks like he had a phase of interest in islam and muslim personalities then moved on by the look of his edit history. Then it has just been touched up here and there over time. So i didn't try to contact anyone as didn't assume anyone was very interested. I'll keep looking for better sources of the information there and add it if i find it. If any kind of edit war breaks out i should take it up with the BLP noticeboard? Thanks again for your time! Aathomson (talk) 12:22, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi again, Aathomson! You sound like you're making good progress and that you're working hard to find reliable sources; that's really awesome to hear! To answer your question: No. You'll want to file a report at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring to have issues related to edit warring investigated. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be more than happy to answer them. I'm happy to hear of your progress, and I wish you well and hope that your time and progress comes to a desirable result :-). Cheers -- ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:51, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Template:Protection table

Hi Oshwah, I hate to bring you into a particular discussion, but since the user involved threatened to ask you to revoke my rollback permission I figured I'd ask what you think would be the best method of resolving this dispute. As the user involved says they "won't be responding further". Thanks! - Vanstrat ((🗼)) 22:53, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

You gotta be fucking kidding me. EEng 23:07, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi Vanstrat, EEng - I saw the ping and left a response to the discussion on the template talk page earlier today (before I realized that I received a message here as well). In a nutshell: a dispute and possible confusion with the exact application of MOS and citing a section of it regarding an edit to a table in the Wikipedia namespace isn't a cause for me to revoke anyone's user right here... you two just need to talk the dispute out. If it doesn't result in a compromise or other consensus between you two, just follow what's outlined in Wikipedia's dispute resolution policy and go from there. Just keep things peaceful between you two, don't do things to turn the discussion heated or anger the other person, don't edit war, and follow the protocol if you two hit any snags. It's okay to agree to disagree without being enemies or combative with one another. People disagree all the time; it happens. That's life. What's important is that we reach consensus with whatever may be in concern, and that what's ultimately decided is an improvement to the project. That's the number one priority and why we're here in the first place (or... should be here... lol). Please don't hesitate to come to me with any additional questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to help in any way that I can. I wish you both well, and that the dispute comes to a peaceful and successful close. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:22, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
It's not worth warring over a small edit like this (well.. more accurately it's not worth warring ever). If we don't come to a resolution ourselves, I'll probably ask for a third opinion. Thanks again for your time! There's always something new to learn about Wikipedia, and everyone has a different viewpoint! - Vanstrat ((🗼)) 02:34, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
Vanstrat - You're absolutely correct! Wikipedia has a lot of policies and guidelines, and it took me quite some time to nail them down. In fact, I still occasionally ask questions and learn new things about Wikipedia policy - and that's after being on Wikipedia for over ten years. So don't let that become daunting or discourage you; good editors will continuously make mistakes and learn from them - it's a normal part of growing and becoming experienced. Nobody is perfect. You're also correct on the edit warring; it's never worth it to edit war... if anything, it just ultimately makes things harder on the people involved with doing so, not easier. If you have any questions or need my assistance with anything, my talk page is always open to you and you are always welcome to message me here. Again, I wish you both well and I hope that everything gets worked out. Cheers :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:41, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
Another lesson you might want to inculcate is that judgment counts more than blind application of guidelines – and that goes double when the guideline itself says that it doesn't apply in the situation at hand. EEng 02:55, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
My final comment: You're assuming your judgement was/is more correct than mine. Regardless of the guideline's existence, my opinion would not change. I only used the guideline to help reinforce my opinion. None of this was about blindly applying it. - Vanstrat ((🗼)) 04:51, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
Then it was particularly unfortunate that you kept appealing to the guideline, which for the nth time doesn't apply outside article space. If it's just your bare opinion, it far better focuses the discussion for you to simply say so. EEng 17:56, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Blake Ricciardi ‎

Hi Oshwah. I thought I'd ask you about Blake Ricciardi while you're around. The article is full of puffery and entirely unsourced, and the little bit of cleanup I've done so far does nothing to change that. Everything I've seen online about this person seems to be primary sources (interviews, etc.) or trivia mentions, and not the significnt coverage typically required by GNG of WP:BIO. I am thinking about tagging this with BLP Prod, but if that's not appropriate then I taking it to AfD may be the only option. Any ideas on how to proceed here? FWIW, I think there's also probably some COI editing involved as well based upon this, the IP editing and the creator of the article (both which are SPAs). -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:28, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi Marchjuly! I'd say that BLP PROD would be a waste of time, since all it would take is the addition of some kind of reference to the article to have it removed. AFD appears to be the logical path to forego instead, as it appears that you've already done your part and that you believe that notability with this person doesn't yet meet the requirements. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them and lend you a hand. Cheers -- ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:44, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
I've added some maintenance templates and posted something on the article's talk page. I'll also try to do a little more WP:BEFORE and ask about this at some WikiProjects as well. If AfD can't be avoided, then at least noone will be able to claim that attempts were not made to save the article. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:50, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
(talk page stalker)I'd add to that, Marchjuly, that many editors hold that an external link, even one that does not speak to Notability in any way like the one on this article, satisfies the requirements of a BLP PROD. If your were to PROD it (and I agree with Oshwah that on a promo driven article like this that a PROD would probably be a waste of time), I'd just use a regular PROD. John from Idegon (talk) 02:54, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
@Oshwah and @John from Idegon: After looking at the article talk page, I noticed this was added via AfC. An AfC reviewer would not have approved this as unsourced, so after examing the page history it appears that all of the puffery, etc. was added by Special:Contributions/173.46.64.98 within the past week or so. The IP removed sources being cited in the article when the replaced the more neutrally worded content with the promotional fluff. This is the last stable version before the IP started editing things; it may still have some issues, but it was citing sources and was not nearly as puffery filled. What is the best way to revert back to that version? I am not a rollbacker, so all I can do is undo everything made from my last edit to the last stable version. Someone may still decide to AfD this, but that's something for a different discussion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:00, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
I rolled it back to the revision you suggested Marchjuly and cleaned up the refs. After I did it was apparent that what I suspected was the case. It has always been a common trait of paid editors to try to hide the nature of their crap sources, and that was the case here. There is not a single source that speaks to notability. Not one. If you don't find anything better, let me know. I'll take it to AfD. John from Idegon (talk) 05:35, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for doing that. I tagged the article once again with {{Notability}} so maybe someone will have some better luck then me in finding sources. Unfortunately, I think AfD is almost certain since I can't find anything at the moment which comes close to establishing notability. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:41, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi Dbirchjr, and welcome to Wikipedia! Wikipedia has guidelines in regards to articles and the personal conflict of interest with editors. It's a highly discouraged and controversial behavior for anyone to edit or even participate in discussions regarding articles where you have a personal conflict of interest with. Since you're employed by this company, this would definitely place you within that situation. I'd instead encourage you to make an edit request on the article's talk page with what should be changed or removed from the article, why, and your proof for any assertions you make in regards to why (if applicable). This will keep you within this guideline, and allow other editors to review and respond to your request. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to assist you further. Thanks again for the message, welcome to Wikipedia, and I appreciate your understanding :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:40, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
I've cleaned up the references on the article, added a connected contributor template to the talk page for Dbirchjr, and applied a PROD to the article as there is no indication of notability. John from Idegon (talk) 06:10, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi Ammy.sohal, and welcome to Wikipedia! I see that you created an account and joined us just a few days ago (on December 7) and have made quite a significant amount of editing and page creation attempts. I want to respond here and give you some input and guidance in order to help your experience as a new editor to be as smooth, easy, and frustration-free as possible. I definitely understand what you may be feeling right now - it takes A LOT of time to plan, find, draft, write, verify, link, and build articles and content, and it's very disheartening and can be understandably frustrating when you see that the huge amount of time and hard work you spent could potentially be for nothing. Looking at your user talk page, I see that you've received a good number of notices from other editors regarding the speedy deletion of the articles and content you've started... so I understand what level of frustration you may be at.
If you want your experience on Wikipedia to be easy and free from frustration, and if you want to make sure that none of the time that you spend writing articles and content are wasted and spent ultimately for nothing, you need to follow this advice: First, have you visited and completed Wikipedia's new user tutorial? If not, you should definitely start there and go through the entire thing before you do anything else. It will help by teaching you our core and fundamental policies, guidelines, and procedures, as well as teach you the basics and fundamentals of the website's layout, how to navigate and find important places, and how we collaborate and build the project. After you've done this, I highly recommend that you navigate and go through Wikipedia's tutorial on building your first article when you feel ready to start a new article. Instead of you creating an article all by yourself and with nothing to help guide you, this tutorial is a wizard that trains you through going through the important steps and checks that you should always complete before you build an article (these checks are there to prevent you from creating articles and wasting hours of time writing it only for it to wind up deleted). You should build new articles using this help tutorial until you become proficient with the important policies that involve creation.
I promise that if you take the advice I gave you above, and follow it completely and do exactly what it instructs (as well as following the instructions those tutorials instruct you to do), aside from some other basic things that you'll pick up on your own, your time and experience transitioning here as a brand new editor and user will be much much easier on you, and you'll find yourself avoiding very heartbreaking and frustrating pitfalls that waste hours of your time. If you have any questions about the tutorials I pointed you to or if you need help with understanding any of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, please don't hesitate to message me here and I'll be more than happy to help you. Again, I welcome you to Wikipedia and I hope that your time here is positive and that you enjoy your stay :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:23, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Ben Law - undue weight

On reading that section in Ben Law's article, I was concerned that it is of roughly equal length with his entire career, and given undue weight. As the original criticism of Law by the Oz was already documented, I felt that Christensen's response was too much. --122.108.141.214 (talk) 10:22, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Forest2017 - Thanks for leaving me a message here. I'm concerned with your edits here to ESDES School of Business and Management because they don't cite any references in-line. The external URL you provided above doesn't include any of the numbers in the facts and figures section that you modified. This is why I reverted the changes you made. Please review wikipedia's guideline on identifying reliable sources and let me know if you have any questions about anything on the page. I also see that your account is brand new - welcome to Wikipedia! I highly recommend that you navigate to Wikipedia's new user tutorial and go through it completely. It'll make your experience and first time here a much easier and smoother one if you do. Thanks again for the message, and again... welcome to Wikipedia! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:43, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

HELLO MR. OSHWAH PLEASE MODIFY THIS EXCERPT ACCORDINGLY IN YOUR WIKIPEDIA BASED ON FACTS IF YOU READ KJV JEREMIAH CHAPTER 22 VERSE 28-30 THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A 'CURSE PER SE..' I CANT FIND WHERE IT SAYS JEHOVAH CURSED OR GOD CURSED...ALL IT MENTIONS IS JECONIAH MISFORTUNES IN HIS GENERATIONS...USERS CAN TWIST TRUTHS TO THEIR ADVANTAGE OR TO HISTORY CAN BE BIASED AND MISINFORMATION TO SERVE POLITICAL RELIGIOUS CULTURAL BENEFITS AND ERASE RICH HERITAGE HISTORY OR INVALIDATE THE TRUTH. WIDELY SPREAD TRADITIONAL INTERPRETATIONS IS FAR FETCHED..PLEASE EDIT CONCISELY I TRIED BUT MY CONTRIBUTION CAN BE VIEWED AS BEING TO STERN AND VERY CRITICAL SPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO FACTS I AM VERY PASSIONATE BECAUSE I DEFEND THE TRUTH UNBIASED INSTEAD OF NEUTRALITY WIKIPEDIA MUST STRIVE FOR FACTUAL HISTORICAL CONTENTS INDEPENDENT OF BIASED TRUTHS WITHOUT VERIFICATION. WIKI SHOULD HAVE A VERIFICATION DEPARTMENT THAT INVESTIGATES ON CLAIMS AND EDITS TO AVOID MISINFORMATION OR BIASED TRUTHS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. THERE IS ALSO DISCRIMINATION OF THE TRUTH BASED ON RACE ETHNIC ORIGINS THAT PLAYS A ROLE IN DISSEMINATING WRONG INFORMATION OR MISLEADING INFORMATION..IT CAN BE VERY DISCREET TO HIDE ITS REAL INTENTION..FOR EXAMPLE HOLLYWOOD FOR YEARS WANTED TO MAKE THE GENERAL PUBLIC BELIEVE THAT PHARAOH AND EGYPTIAN WERE WHITE IN THEIR FILMS ALSO WHITE JESUS IN EVERY FILM ITS RARE TO FIND BLACK JESUS..SO IT CAN BE RACIAL BIASED SENDING A SUBLIMINAL MESSAGE TO THE MASSES THAT WHITE SUPREMACY IT CAN BE RACIAL,RELIGIOUS OR CULTURAL HISTORICAL BIASED...SOLOMON WAS A BLACK MAN BUT THE WHITE JEWISH WANT THE WORLD TO SEE JESUS AS A WHITE MAN..ITS RACIAL PROFILING AND RACISM..

A widely spread traditional Christian interpretation relates the non-continuation of the main Davidic line from Solomon as related the godlessness of Jehoiachin in the early 500s BC, where Jeremiah cursed the main branch of the Solomonic line, saying that no descendant of "[Je]Coniah" would ever again reign on the throne of Israel (Jer. 22:30).[1 — Preceding unsigned comment added by WR202531 (talkcontribs) 11:53, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Another one for you

Four Major Rivers Project - this thing is a train wreck. I started to try some clean up and then reverted myself. The whole thing needs a re-write and proper sourcing. It shouldn't be in article space, it should at least be moved to draft, if not deleted. It's largely WP:OR propaganda, some of it written in the first person (!). There also might be some translation issues (from Korean). Have a look... I dare ya. - theWOLFchild 15:59, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Thewolfchild - Yeah, I'd say that there are a number of issues with the article, sure. You might want to start by verifying that this article meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines and that it doesn't need to be nominated for AFD. Then you won't be wasting your time cleaning up and fixing the article just to find out that it shouldn't even be kept in the first place... ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:07, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
To be honest, I have no interest in this article. I just happen to come across it in the history of a (possible) IP vandal. I don't know a lot of what admins can and can't do (other than blocking the shit outta' some folks). I thought perhaps you could move it to draft or somewhere else, have the page creator (User:Finekim) take it to his sandbox, or tag it or... something. Like I said, I'm not sure what you can do, I just know there's a huge turd of an article sitting there. I have no interest in getting too involved with it myself and you could just take a pass as well. I have no expectations, I was just curious what abilities pro-active admins have with something like this. Thanks - theWOLFchild 19:06, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi Thewolfchild - Administrators have the technical ability to edit, move, and delete (almost) all pages and what-not... but we're bound by the exact same policies and guidelines as everybody else (if not more strictly so). We don't have higher "status" or "authority" than other editors and non-admins, and while we're given the technical ability to make major changes and edits that users cannot - that doesn't mean that we get to move what we want, delete what we want, and pull justifications from the abyss and go with it... lol. It would be inappropriate for me to move this page to the draft space or the creator's sandbox... especially when multiple users have contributed to it and given how long this article has existed for. I've moved newly-created articles in an "IAR manner" to the draft space multiple times before, but it was usually shortly after its creation and to keep the article creator from being bitten and disheartened. There are situations where moving an article to the draft space is okay in my opinion, but it's usually while helping the creator one-on-one and with messages on the user's talk page providing them assistance.
Anyways... so, in this situation, I have the same list of actions we can take as you do: We can edit and improve the article, add maintenance tags to help draw attention to it so other editors will improve it, tag it for speedy deletion, PROD, or AFD if we think it qualifies for such, etc. I was under the impression that you wanted to get action performed on this article (whether it be editing or improving it, or tagging it for whatever), which prompted the suggestion I made to you in response: Make sure that this article doesn't meet a criteria for deletion (check for notability, etc) first before you spend more time editing it... then you won't waste your time improving an article just to find out later that it instead needed deletion.
I hope I answered your questions and pointed you in the right direction... lol. Please let me know if you have any more questions or need anything else and I'll be happy to help. Cheers :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:33, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Regarding McGregor edits

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conor_McGregor

Hi Oshwah, thank you for the introduction! Why are these edits not considered constructive? McGregor's racially-charged remarks are discussed widely among fans, media, and MMA community at large. They are more widely known and probably more controversial than his incident at Bellator 187, but that remains on the page. Compare the Google trends: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=mcgregor%20racist,mcgregor%20bellator

I think these remarks are a large part of his story and his general trash-talking character. They are a huge factor in why he is so polarizing among MMA die-hards and casual fans. I have followed MMA and McGregor for many years so I have context to these remarks, and my edits were neutral.

Could you elaborate on why they are not constructive? Thank you.

My Royal Young

This 'My Royal Young' grief on Wikipedia has gone on far too long in my understanding, with the certain pages being affected. What I don't seem to understand is why does this user keep on doing that. And it also appears that a small amount of user talk pages have been affected by this vandalism including zzuuzz's, 99.109.85.105 and sometimes my own and a few others. I cannot think why the person only vandalises those talk pages with the same types of vandalism as what it did on certain articles.

It also appears that 99.109.85.105 has some great detective work on sock puppetry or is it that My Royal Young's vandalism easy to spot... Anyway, I shall thank you for the reverting of today's vandalism at 2:46 UTC with your magic of Huggle. Iggy (talk) 12:19, 13 December 2017 (UTC)

I see that you use {{BASEPAGENAME}} to fill in the user's username - good. I'm glad to see that you handled it that way; makes life easier for us all. My question for you: does this template take a parameter or handle the input of a user signature passed to it? How would I add my signature to it without manually adding ~~~~ to the message? Do you handle this parameter? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:47, 13 December 2017 (UTC)
No qualms:) Initially, I was going for a version that could be used by any user but choose to make it self-use-only.You are always free to edit and develop or customise the template!Winged BladesGodric 12:52, 13 December 2017 (UTC)

...it looks like you're hard-coding your signature into the template - we need to fix this. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:55, 13 December 2017 (UTC)
Winged Blades of Godric - Okay, I fixed it for you here. This will keep the text from accidentally converting into a signature in the template code itself, but when it's substituted out in the wild, the <includeonly> tags will disappear, the tildes will then be substituted into the page as raw text, and then the MediaWiki software will translate that code and convert it into your signature when the page changes are applied. And lord and behold.... IT WORKS! Now you can welcome people by simply adding {{subst:User:Winged Blades of Godric/Accwelcome}} to anybody's user talk page, and the template will do the rest for you ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:59, 13 December 2017 (UTC)

My addition to the page was based on my own experiences of Pat Roach and was submitted to give a broader view of the man. He was a good bloke; chatted with us (amateur boxers) and annoyed flat residents by stomping up and down their stairs!

Pattern vandalism on multiple school articles

Since you're much more tech savvy than myself (I learned how to program my VCR right about the time it became obsolete), I'm bringing this to you. I've been reverting the name of Lil Pump from many many school and school district articles all across the US. I don't know if the kiddies have been chatting on the Reddit or what, but it's becoming more than irritating. Frequently, he's added as an administrator of some sort and frequently there are references to his works, or to Xanex added concurrently. I'm wondering if it is technically feasible to set up a filter that looks for his name being added to an article under WP:WPSCH? John from Idegon (talk) 06:41, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

I'm such a technodweeb that I don't really understand the category tree but I'm guessing items in Category: Schools in the United States and Category:School districts in the United States should cover the range of articles. John from Idegon (talk) 06:45, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi John from Idegon! Edit filters apply at the namespace level, so we can't only apply them to trigger on specific articles (without listing each one in the code). But I definitely agree that I've been reverting quite an bit of vandalism lately with edits adding "Lil Pump" (and some other rapper) to articles. I'm gonna need to assess as to whether or not that using the edit filter tool is warranted in this situation, and what the probability of false positives could or would occur as a result of doing so. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:57, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
Oy.... guessing that would be a waste of time, as since the dude recently managed to off himself, I'm guessing there are at least a large number of articles his name could legit be added to. Perhaps (not gonna help the immediate situation, but...) category level filtering is something we should ask the programming gods at WMF to give us. John from Idegon (talk) 07:05, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

Please do not remove my edit

That's... not how Wikipedia works, sorry. You need to read Wikipedia's policies and guidelines on neutral point of view and identifying reliable sources before you continue editing. Why are you editing false information on my Wikipedia page ?

Hi.. This is Nikunj Malik. May I know, why are you Re-editing my age to 39 & adding ‘arrogant’ in my introduction line ? Do you have a personal grudge ? 182.70.66.71 (talk) 19:28, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

That "arrogant" was a bit of missed vandalism Oshwah inadvertently restored when he reverted your unsourced addition. All content in a biography must be accompanied by references to reliable sources. --NeilN talk to me 19:49, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
NeilN is correct - I didn't notice that part of the modification - you were of course absolutely correct in removing that vandalism. My concerns (and the reason for reverting the edits you made) were the changes you were making to the article subject's birthdate. After reading through the article content, I believed that no referenced at all in regards to birthdate, so I removed it entirely. I saw that your edit afterwards completely put it back, and at the date you had changed it to. This is when I decided that the back-and-fourth reverting was doing no good, and that it was time for me to step back and let others step in and try and resolve the issue. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:20, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
I looked for a source for the birth date. She confirms the day on her (unconfirmed) Twitter account but not the year. Nothing else decent I could find. --NeilN talk to me 20:25, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
NeilN - Thank you for taking a look at this in-depth and for attempting to verify the birthdate of this person, as well as for assisting me with the issues at-hand that I was (attempting... lol) to resolve. I really appreciate it :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:17, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi SA 13 Bro! It's good to talk to you again! I hope things have been going well for you. Good call on the 36 hours - it should be set to an indefinite block given the vandalism created. I thought that the vandalism made might have been related to patterns I've seen made by an LTA (I couldn't tell you which one), but I wasn't absolutely sure - hence why I added that it was possible block evasion alongside the main reason for blocking. I've changed the duration and blocking reason; if anything, this account is definitely a VOA. Thanks for the heads up and for the message. Hi

It seems that all my edits to William Scott, athlete, have been reverted. How can his date of death not be relevant?

Kind regards,

Cheshire Sandy Cheshiresandy (talk) 00:22, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi Cheshiresandy! Thanks for leaving me a message with your concerns. The issue isn't that the article subject's death isn't relevant - the death of the person obviously is relevant. The issue was in regards to the references and reliable sources cited to verify the changes you were making (in this case, you didn't provide any reference at all). Do you have any references to reliable sources that verify the content you're adding is true? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:26, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
It is not possible to "verify" the date of death as it does not appear anywhere online. This is why I am contributing it to Wikipedia. What reliable sources would you suggest? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cheshiresandy (talkcontribs) 00:33, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

Request for comment

I recently came upon a case of a user who had been blocked a few months ago, but his case seems to be unfair and kind of seems to not have been very well handled. I posted a comment in the user talk page under one of the warnings. The user is Silicone barbie (talk). Your input would be welcome, either there, or here if you don't find anything wrong. Thanks! Thinker78 (talk) 06:52, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

Thinker78 - That block was made for repeatedly adding referenced content to articles, and for 31 hours. That was over six months ago... why are we suddenly interested in having it reviewed? Where did you run into this at? I'll be happy to take a look if you feel that action was taken unfairly, but I need specific details - why do you think it was handled improperly? What happened exactly what gave you that impression? Can you give me a link to that diff? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:06, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
I was a union official, so I take at heart to defend others against injustices and take seriously due process. I came upon his case because I was doing my patrol at "recent changes"; from there, I went to investigate the article The Real Housewives of Orange County (season 12) and pondered whether it should be deleted, so I was going to try to contact the article creator to ask his reasoning why is the article notable before putting it in AfD because I saw that many people have put a lot of work in the article, although a superficial investigation on the notability of the article didn't convince me it meets WP:GNG, then I found out Silicone barbie is the creator of the article, I went to his talk page and I stumbled on the warnings and the block. The reason why I am suddenly interested in reviewing if he was treated fairly is because I have doubts that he was treated fairly, specially because a vandalism warning was used for good faith unsourced edits. I wrote a comment with my rationale under said warning in his talk page. This is the diff, and the subsequent ones in the same day. Thinker78 (talk) 21:07, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

Rev-del request

Can you please rev-del [REDACTED - OSHWAH] to Wikipedia:Edit filter/False positives/Reports that you just reverted? Thank you! Hastiness (talk) 20:07, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi Hastiness - I don't believe this edit is eligible for redaction. While it could be justified as purely disruptive, it's not to be used to redact ordinary incivility, and I believe this edit falls into that category. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:11, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
Ok. Thanks for letting me know. Hastiness (talk) 20:16, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
Hastiness - You bet! If you see any other edits that you feel should be redacted, please don't hesitate to let me know so that I can take a look. I'd much rather you message me and have us find out that it doesn't need redaction than for you not to say something and have it be something that does :-). If possible, you'll want to email them to me instead. This is preferred, as rev del requests made in public will result in unnecessary attention being drawn to the edit that wouldn't have otherwise :-) Cheer -- ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:20, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
Oshwah, Hastiness: I don't normally argue with administrators, especially on their own talk and especially one's I like, but... Shouldn't revdel requests be handled privately, either by emailing an administrator or emailing Oversight directly (that's what I do)? The reason edits are revdel'd is because it's something people shouldn't see, right? I don't think calling attention to it by sending a talk message serves that end at all. Most administrators have a lot of people watching their talk. John from Idegon (talk) 23:27, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
John from Idegon - Yes. Revision deletion requests should be emailed to me in private and for this exact reason. This is what I explained in my response above, and is what is stated on my user talk page's edit notice when you go to edit this page or create a new section. I mentioned it in my response in the casual way that I did because I didn't want my response to appear to be scolding the user... especially knowing that they came to me for help. I want to maintain a completely open and welcome talk page environment and where anyone and everyone knows that they are welcome to be here; I hate scolding, and people message me here because they know that I'm not going to do that. Is it important that people email me revision delete requests instead of posting them here? Yeah, it is. Because (like you said), it will certainly cause a "Streisand effect-like" phenomenon because of our natural instincts to be curious. I mean, shit, I do it. Who doesn't? lol. But am I going to run at someone here and say, "Heyyyyy!!! You're supposed to email me that!!! BAD EDITOR!!!! BAD!!"? No. I am not. If anything, I usually take care if it quick enough to where the revision posted is already redacted before anybody goes to take a peek. Or I'll just redact the diff from here and strike out that. So while it's definitely encouraged for people to email me these requests (please, pretty please), it's not the absolute end of the world if it happens; just keep it in mind for next time. No biggie ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:09, 16 December 2017 (UTC)

Re Rob Moore (property investor) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) This guy, per sources, hates cats and painted graffiti on his property walls about killing them. Jim1138 - I took a look at the edits made to the article for December, and I see that the IP 213.205.252.0/23 has been making changes to it. I grabbed the contributions for this range, and there's unfortunately a large potential for collateral damage, so I can't block it.... I'll need to either block sub-ranges or individual IPs. As far as the article goes: It is not eligible for A7 as it makes a credible claim of significance, and it's not eligible for PROD. Either this article subject meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines, or it doesn't and an AFD is created. Either way, we'll point people in the right direction if they ask for help, and we'll revert and take action against those that disrupt the article. If people from a town are going to make sure it gets deleted, they'll do so by going through the proper process to do it. Anything else will be treated like we treat all others and with the same consequences for repeated incidents and issues. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:17, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. I suspect that the subject or one of his henchmen is removing the graffiti info. I was attempting to ascertain if it was DUE. Wrecking his Ferrari, record holder for longest speech, graffiti on killing cats. Seems rather notable. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 08:33, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
Jim1138 - You bet. You know where to find me if you need help with anything else. Cheers -- ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:34, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

Check it yourself

I'm not experimenting and you don't know what you're talking about. I'm an alumnus of Northwest Nazarene University and they changed their nickname and mascot to Nighthawks. Look at their athletics website and see for yourself. It even say's Nighthawks sports in the top left corner. And read the article about it from the University and on Wikipedia's page about the university. (I added the links for them as well).

Since I see you editing

Could you have a word with Wisdomtooth32 and let them know what's going to happen if they can't drop a stick when there's an overwhelming consensus opposing their efforts? You can read more about it at ANI and the thread that started it all. Normally I wouldn't ask you to deal with an editor this intractable (because you're such a nice guy), but I honestly think a good talking to might work in place of the block that's been suggested at ANI. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 00:14, 16 December 2017 (UTC)

Nevermind, JzG beat you to it. My own crotchetiness notwithstanding, I'd have preferred a more gentle approach, but the issue is settled, either way. Yeah, great way to settle issues… Block me and then block the discussion before my block expires. An abundance of integrity… — Wisdomtooth32 (talk) 04:18, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
Wisdomtooth32 - If you want to discuss the block with me and talk about it, you're more than welcome to respond with your questions and concerns. I'll be happy to go over it with you if you'd like me to do so. I obviously didn't get a chance to look into this case when it came here. I was told that another administrator was taking a look already, so I moved on without looking at it further (as you can obviously see in my follow-up responses). But you're welcome to respond and ask me questions, and I'll be happy to answer them and help you with anything if you need it. It's your call; just let me know. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:37, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
  • @Wisdomtooth32: If you read this thread carefully, you will see that this was my attempt to get a resolution to the issue a few days ago that didn't involve you being blocked. Unfortunately, an admin with a less gentle approach decided to handle things before Oshwah got the chance. Please bear that in mind before you decide to attack Oshwah for your blocks(s). Oshwah is not responsible for anything that's happened to you.
Oshwah, you should know that WT has been blocked again for pretty much the same sort of behavior at Anti-Defamation League, this time for 72 hours. So it'll be a bit before they respond. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 13:46, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

Muhammad Iqbal

Dear Oshwah,

Last para of background on Muhammad Iqbal writes :-

Iqbal was bayt in the Sufi Qadri order as he declared it in his speech at Mochidarwaza, Lahore in 1965:" I hereby take oath of being a strict follower of Imam Abu Hanifa and that me and my family has love and admiration towards the Sultan of Arab and Ajam (non-arab) Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani Ghouse Azam. (added on Auth of monthly magazine,Zia E Haram. Razai Mustafa, Gujranwala. 1975)

This complete para is doubtful due following reasons

1. Iqbal died in 1938 as per Wikipedia, so he cannot make this declaration in 1965Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad_Iqbal 2. Auth of monthly magazine,Zia E Haram. Razai Mustafa, Gujranwala may have sectarian/ sub sectarian bias, as it is religion based magazine, not a history journal.Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).http://www.ziaulummahfoundation.org.uk/projects/zia-e-haram-magazine/

3. Iqbals overall message on religion was one Ummah (nation) and avoid sectarianism by following QuraanCite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page). http://www.iqbal.com.pk/2011-10-24-05-45-35/924-poetical-works/kuliyat-e-iqbal-urdu/armaghan-e-hijaz-urdu/ibtada/305-iblees-ki-majlis-e-shura5.108.139.211 (talk) 16:45, 17 December 2017 (UTC) 5.108.139.211 (talk) 16:45, 17 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi there! Thanks for leaving me a message. I definitely understand your concerns... a dead person definitely cannot make speeches later after their apparent "death date" in the article. So long as your changes are accurate and reference reliable sources in the article, that's perfectly fine. When I see changes made to the death date of people after it's been on the article for some time and without any source with the change, I typically will ask the user what the change was about and inquire for references to support it. Thanks for the message and the explanation; if you have any more questions or concerns, please let me know and I'll be happy to assist you. Gary Mull

I added two notable yachts to Gary Mull. Hard to site references as there is little documentation left from Palmer Johnson and no Records left fro Bob Derecktor. I crewed on Safari (ex Dora III) for a number of races in 1975, often competing against the other yacht I referred to, the Derecktor built La Forza del Destino. Oldsalt45 (talk) 20:44, 17 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi Oldsalt45, and thank you for leaving me a message with your explanation. According to the summary you left with your edit, you cite personal experience - this is considered original research, which is not allowed on Wikipedia. You can't cite your own experience, relationships, or even your own writings, research, or work here. Sources that are reliable are peer-reviewed and assert an acceptable level of verification that the information is real and true; original research does not. This is why we do not allow this. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know and I'll be happy to assist you further. Thanks again for the message, and welcome to Wikipedia! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:55, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

Aghachi7 - Thanks for leaving me a message with this information. I see that you've updated the article with the reference you were referring to here - thanks for doing that. Although it's certainly not required, you may want to consider adding your references and your content changes within the same edit together and not in separate ones. It will reduce confusion with other users who see this edit without a reference alongside it. If you have any more questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks again for the message. Best -- ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:32, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

American Cooperative School of Tunis article edit

Hey, So, you rejected my edit to ACST's article because it was less than neutral. I actually happen to attend ACST and have full knowledge of the facts that I added and their objectivity. Could you please explain to me why you rejected my edits? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.224.143.64 (talk) 21:49, 17 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi there! Your edit here has multiple issues. It introduces many spelling errors and grammatical problems, and it updates and changes content without any references cited in order to verify the information you're changing. This is probably what I should have expressed on your talk page instead of any "neutral point of view issues". I also should remind you that your attendance with this school can be seen as a conflict of interest, which is a highly discouraged behavior. I recommend that you edit and expand other articles and topics that you don't have this issue with. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. These references you provided aren't considered reliable to be used on this article - especially knowing that this is a biography of a living person. I highly recommend that you review and understand Wikipedia's policies on biographies of living people by referring to the link in this response. It's a policy that we take very seriously, and violating it repeatedly is disruptive and can result in being blocked - which I don't want to see happen to you. Please let me know if you have any questions about the policy, and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks for leaving me a message - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:40, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

Your latest comment

I just received this from you:

"Please stop adding unreferenced or poorly referenced biographical content, especially if controversial, to articles or any other Wikipedia page, as you did at Amity Shlaes. Content of this nature could be regarded as defamatory and is in violation of Wikipedia policy. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia."

which I greatly appreciate. As I have pointed out elsewhere, in WikiSpeak "controversial" merely serves as a synonym for "stupid". As for the general quality of contributions provided by anglophone Wikipedians, they tend to be representative of the myths to which final-year high-schoolers and college sophomores are beholden. Or what we nowadays refer to as "alternative facts."

Rest assured that I have no desire to edit WP articles. I just follow them so that I know what my students might surprise me with ... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.0.189.131 (talk) 22:42, 17 December 2017 (UTC)

He do what I did to you today on one word, that you reverted, but on whole a dozen of additions and corrections.[1]
Massive revert with no justification is asymmetrical edition war.
You can see on my talkpage that I was leading him to edit and correct rather than brutally revert dozens of additions. Yug (talk) 01:46, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
[1]: ps, life come at me fast. #wikipedia --Yug (talk) 01:46, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
I watched Colossal yesterday and came to correct the plot section, as I watched Last Jedi and came to edit the plot. The current Colossal's plot has some mistakes. Oscar is not jealous of Joel, by example, but get jealous with Tim, later on. I added details about the powerdynamic, links to psychology articles, why Gloria and Oscar are linked to the robot, monster and Seoul. Reverting the whole doesn't makes sense. Yug (talk) 01:58, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
Yug - Thanks for the response. I was able to read that conversation on your talk page earlier. Indeed, the user definitely felt that the original revision of the article had issues and that his/her changes were correct. However, I don't see any policy violations with the article content as it is now, nor do I see any policy violations with the content the IP was repeatedly modifying and changing. I have to be fair to everyone involved; once I fully protect an article for a content-related dispute, I don't edit or change it's current revision unless there's an edit request filed that everyone involved agrees with, or if it violates any important policies (such as containing copyright violations or BLP violations). It keeps my actions fair and justified, and it makes sure that I help handle this issue in a completely neutral and impartial manner. If there's content that needs to be changed, you have to request it. It's so we handle things properly and make sure that any action that follows is the right thing to do. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Good luck - I hope that you two discuss and resolve everything :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:03, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
Ok for me. It could be good to notice the said IP that the protection is mechanic and procedure is ongoing. So he doesn't get encouraged to unfairly play with the "undo" button. Showing him that Wikipedia has "due process" may also display the quality of the community. Yug (talk) 02:09, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
Not a bad idea at all. If you're discussing this issue with the user, it could be something you mention. If the edit warring continues after the block expires (by anyone, in general) - then perhaps blocking the offenders rather than protecting the page would help resolve it. I hope it doesn't come down to that ... I don't like playing the "bad guy"... but if that becomes the logical next step in stopping the disruption, it's what I'll have to do. Again, you're definitely correct with that statement, and it's something this user should definitely be informed about. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:15, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

You have deleted some information and I don't understand why

I have been editing a page with my name that someone else created. The existing page was full of inaccuracies and misinterpreted my work. The reverted version loses some of the information I had gathered (and don't have on paper), and I don't understand what your exception to my work is. The Quixotic Potato - Dammit... you caught me. lol. I use a MacBook Pro and I'm remoted into my Windows PC via RDP, and I have Linux Mint on VNC. My fingers are constantly going back-and-forth between using Control to do hotkeys in Windows (which is mapped to my control key on my Mac), and my Command hotkeys on my Mac OS (and I switch between the two every few minutes). Hi there! I didn't recognize what you were doing with the template at the time - I perhaps thought you may have been testing it. If this is not the case, then please accept my sincere apologies for the confusion. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:17, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
That's no problem, the template is a subset of a standard ship formatting and linking template - my edit fixed a link to a WP:SETINDEX page to the specific article on the ship referred to - the USS North Carolina (SSN-777). I'd politely request a self revert both on the Anchors Aweigh article, and the templated message on my talkpage. Thanks! 82.39.49.182 (talk) 13:20, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi DRCSNOBLE - Your edit here adds content stating where she currently lives, that she still paints to this day, and other content about this person - yet you didn't provide a reference to a reliable source with this content. This is why I reverted the edit and inquired about it with you. You may want to review Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living people, as it will explain this concern in-depth and what you need to provide with these changes. We scrutinize articles that are biographies of living people to a much higher standard and much more closely and seriously than other articles, so it's important that you review this policy before you add more content to these kinds of articles. If you have questions about this policy or anything stated on the policy page, please let me know and I'll be happy to assist you. Thanks for leaving me a message here. Please help the University of Paris article

Hello there,

I have seen that you are aware that there is an user that is constantly making changes in the University of Paris article. He is erasing well-referenced pieces of the article that use several official sources, of all the universities concerned with the subject as well as the official page of the Academy of Paris, to defend his own agenda. He recently undid your revision of it. He is also erasing parts of the article that explicitly use references that seem to be against his POV. I beg you to have a closer look at this page and make it neutral as it should be.

Thank you, --Canyouhearmemajortom? (talk) 20:15, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

Canyouhearmemajortom? - I reverted an edit on this article believing that JeanBirkin was removing content without a valid explanation when, in fact, the user did. He added this content, and then removed it to put it in a different place. I reverted myself after realizing what had actually occurred, and I have no other direct involvement with the article itself. If you look at the combined edits made by the user here, he did add references to the content. Whether or not they're reliable is another discussion; I'd need to look. This is what I believe started a chain of reverting and restoring by multiple users and over the last few days, which resulted in the article being fully protected as it is now. You (and all of the other editors involved here) need to straighten this all out on the article's talk page, agree on a revision to save, and then let the protecting administrator know so he can remove it and you can save the agreed upon revision. This is outlined in Wikipedia's guide on proper dispute resolution practices and it's what you need to do in order to ultimately resolve this. If you have any questions about this, or if you need assistance with anything else, please let me know and I'll be happy to help you out. I wish you well, that the issue is sorted out peacefully, and I thank you for the message here :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:39, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for your help in this matter. As you might have noticed, I am not an experienced user. That's why I have looked for help and guidance. I and other users have tried to expose our view on the matter, but the user who is reverting the article (is it possible that he is the same person?) has not answered to our arguments with clarity, choose instead to cherry pick on some parts of the discussion. The article that he is using to base his point is already very biased and, by saying that the fusion of two of the universities that constitute the university of Paris would be the rebirth of the same, overlooks the fact that there are other 11 universities that are part of the university of Paris even exist and/or inherent several faculties of these universities. In order to defend his agenda, he erased the official references from 6 different universities official webpages plus the one from the Academy of Paris. I have tried to argue with him, but he does seem willing to solve the problem, instead choosing to make false statements such as I and other users making a confusion between "the building of la Sorbonne and the university" (which is not the case). As I can see, he has an advantage on the matter as the official sources are in French. Could you please have a deeper look in the matter and help us to achieve a consensus here. Thank you so much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Canyouhearmemajortom? (talkcontribs) 23:05, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi again, Canyouhearmemajortom?, and no worries! We were all new to Wikipedia at one point. Making mistakes, and not understanding or being aware of every single policy and guideline on Wikipedia is completely normal and understandable; we don't expect or demand perfection, nor do we demand that you learn all the rules and norms right now. Just make sure to take feedback that other editors leave you as them trying to help you. Some editors are better at assisting new people than others; it's how the world turns...
First, let me stop you at "I and other users have tried to expose our view on the matter" - are you referring to your view on the article subject in reflection to the content? Or are you referring to your thoughts on the issue at-hand? You want to make sure that every edit you make on any article is written in a neutral point of view. This is required, and content that reflects an editor's viewpoint should be fixed so that it no longer does so. If you're referring to your view on the dispute, make sure that you cite relevant Wikipedia policies or guidelines with your statements - this is probably the best argument you can make in a dispute if the relevant policy pages you're referring to agree with your argument. If the other users are not responding on the article's talk page, leave them a message on their user or IP talk page and let them know about the discussion. If they still don't respond but continue to revert the article, do not repeatedly change it back. Reverting an article in a back-and-fourth manner like that with other editors is problematic, as it can be considered edit warring (which is not allowed) and can result in your account being temporarily blocked from editing. Typically, you'll be warned first, then blocked if you continue doing it despite the warning, but you definitely do not want to get into that habit. If it starts to go back-and-fourth like that, stop and ask for someone to step in. Take a look at Wikipedia's three-revert rule for a general guideline on when back-and-fourth reverting will almost always be considered edit warring.
Responding to your statement, "In order to defend his agenda, he erased the official references from 6 different universities official webpages plus the one from the Academy of Paris." - are you saying that this person has control of the University's actual official websites or web pages outside of Wikipedia and has modified it to remove information that you're using as a reference here? If this is true, there's nothing I can do about that. Someone updating a reference located outside of Wikipedia to remove information or change it is seen as just that... someone updating a reference. If the information you're arguing isn't stated on the references you were using to support the argument, you can't use the argument in the article. That's the policy when it comes down to the bread and butter of it all. Just look for a different reference that's reliable if you need to.
I'm not sure how I could help in regards to the dispute if the matter is over information that is either true or false, or referenced on the official website (or elsewhere) or not. You need to find a reliable source that supports the information you believe to be correct, discuss the dispute, and update the article only when this is found. If the information isn't on a reliable source (or if it's now removed), then we can't use that reference to argue that the content is correct. Please let me know if you have any more questions. I'll be happy to answer them. Best -- ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:13, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Hello. Thank you again for your answer. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. He is erasing the text on the article of Wikipedia. This text is supported by the webpages of the universities and still there to be seen and checked by whoever goes there to check them (and can understand French). In other words, he is erasing the links to the pages because they all go against his version of the facts that, according to him, the University of Paris is being reestablished. In stating that, he is disregarding all the other 11 universities that have been created in 1970 from the split of the original university of Paris and still carry its name. The history of the split of the university of Paris is well known in the French speaking world. The other user is trying to rewrite history 50 years later among the Anglophone community. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Canyouhearmemajortom? (talkcontribs) 00:55, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Ps: the references are in the talk page and were in the version of the text that was erased. Could you have a look on them and come with your opinion on the matter. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Canyouhearmemajortom? (talkcontribs) 00:59, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi ~Oshwah~, you can see that the discussion has been going on here too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Sorbonne_University . Basically, Canyouhearmemajortom? is arguing that Sorbonne University is not the re-establishment University of Paris, despite very clear sources[21][22]

His misktake comes from the fact : 1. he thinks there are "official sources" (webpage of the universities) and them only count 2. he does not know that Wikipedia is not a place for original research, so he draws his own conclusions based on these sources (even these "official sources" are not well understood by him: the other universities are inheritors because they were built by Sorbonne University professors, they are not the faculties themselves). If you could explain that to him, because RaphaelQS, JeanBirkin and me have not succeeded yet.

--SummertimeinCrocodilopolis (talk) 07:51, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

The official sources clearly state that these universities inherited both the faculties and the buildings of the old University of Paris. Anyone can go there and check (please, do) [23][24][25] [26]. . I am trying to reach consensus in the University of Paris webpage. Please do not revert the references in the article nor the text backed up by these references. Let's try to be reasonable and constructive here. Thank you. --Canyouhearmemajortom? (talk) 12:57, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Dear Canyouhearmemajortom?,

You are obviously editing in good faith but without knowing about the WP rules. Please read WP:NOR. There is no source saying "the THE says… but", so you cannot include such a text in an article. Please avoid editing before understang WP rules.

By the way, the is no "official" history, so no "official source".

--SummertimeinCrocodilopolis (talk) 13:48, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

SummertimeinCrocodilopolis - If you say that you have references to support your assertions, what is this user's argument in rebuttal? Is the user providing references as well? Why exactly does this user disagree with you? How does he support his arguments exactly? You say here that this user stated that the "official sources" (what sounds to me to be the official homepage/web page of the college) are only what matters and that other sources are irrelevant, and that he's adding original research - can you provide me with the diff where the users states this? And where the user is introducing or arguing based off of original research? I'm reading through the discussion at Talk:Sorbonne University and I don't see where this is said... maybe I'm just not seeing it. This will help me if you can provide these diffs. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:09, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Dear Oswah, most of our relevant discussion regarding the subject is taking place at talk page of the University of Paris article, not at the talk page of Sorbonne university. We have both made some efforts to achieve a consensus in certain aspects of the article, however I believe that, when it comes to the main reason of our dispute, a real consensus is unlikely to happen. There are some users that believe that the fusion between two of the thirteen inheritors of the University of Paris would mean a reestablishment of the University of Paris. They based their views on recent articles that appearead on the media. There are others, like me, that believe that all the thirteen inheritors of the University of Paris should be treated equally and that a reestablished University of Paris would necessarily have to include all its inheritors, not just a fraction of it, to be considered as such. We use the official websites of, at least, five different inheritors of such university as well as the one of the Academy of Paris (which is the governmental body above all the universities in the Parisian region) as the ground of our criticism towards the above mentioned view. I have also recently found a official reference that states all the thirteen universities of Paris are inheritors of the latter and should be treated equally in respect to that (such reference can be found at the bottom of the talk page of University of Paris. I am using my phone and didn't manage to copy and paste it here, sorry for that). I am very thankful for your guidance in this matter, I hope you can help us all to sort this out. If you happen to agree that the page needs revision, get back to the way it was or be more like the version of French wikipedia, I hope that you can help us with a decision and, perhaps, with your editing skills to revert the article. Canyouhearmemajortom? (talk) 19:51, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Dear Oswah,

I have written a version of the article trying to get to a middle ground between the two versions. However, the user SummerTimeInCrocodipolis has reverted the article stating that it was based on original research. I don't understand where I have used such original research (the references were those from the official websites of the universities of Paris and his own material). Could you please have a look on such revision and tell us if it can be used (it is, now, a previous version, as the above mentioned user reverted it). Thank you so much. Canyouhearmemajortom? (talk) 14:17, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi, to answer your question, it was this version that was original research. But it is not there anymore. --SummertimeinCrocodilopolis (talk) 18:57, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you once again, but I've found a further reference that the Sorbonne University is not the "rebirth" of the University of Paris that may rest our case once for all.

The article brings the view of the very president of the Sorbonne University over the subject[1].

In this interview he clearly says that the Sorbonne University is NOT the rebirth of the the old University of Paris :

"So will the pre-1968 Sorbonne re-emerge? No, Pelletier said. “Our aim isn’t to recreate the old [unified] Sorbonne. The Sorbonne has a considerable weight internationally, so we couldn’t give it to one university; what would happen to the 13 others?”

What next?

Thank you so much for your help and guidance

Invitation to Blocking tools consultation

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation's Anti-Harassment Tools team is inviting all Wikimedians to discuss new blocking tools and improvements to existing blocking tools in December 2017 for development work in early 2018.

We are specifically contacting you for your ideas because you are one of the top users of the blocking tool on en Wikipedia. We think that your comments will help us make better improvements. You can post to the discussion in the language that you are most comfortable expressing your ideas.

Other ways that you can help

  • Spread the word that the consultation is happening; this is an important discussion for making decisions about improving the blocking tools.
  • If you know of current or previous discussions about blocking tools that happened on your wiki, share the links.

If you have questions you can contact me on wiki or send an email to the Anti-Harassment Tools team.

For the Anti-Harassment Tools team, SPoore (WMF), Community Advocate, Community health initiative (talk) 21:17, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

  • Please let us know if you wish to opt-out of all massmessage mailings from the Anti-harassment tools team.
    • Ha, you're one of the top blockers too. How does it feel? Drmies (talk) 22:33, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
Drmies - lol is that what this means? I haven't looked up my counts in at least... it's been a long time lol. How do I feel? Same as always I guess... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:38, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
"We are specifically contacting you for your ideas because you are one of the top users of the blocking tool on en Wikipedia", AKA - "Hey, we know you're here like 24/7... so you got time.... right? Course you do..." lol ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:40, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
Maybe the first idea that you can offer to this blocking tools consultation is that you're not supposed to call them tools. --NeilN talk to me 22:46, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
SPoore (WMF) - Thank you for the message, the information, and the invitation! I left a discussion on the page's talk page with a suggestion that I feel would be extremely helpful to administrators and the blocking page. I hope that it's reviewed and considered, as this is an area that's both unclear, lacking, and not a simple task to execute properly and completely if not experienced with doing so (plus, it takes a long time to do manually - at least in my opinion it does). Thanks again! Much appreciated! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:43, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

IP 82....

Hi, the person behind this ip, who reverted the Church of St Edward the Confessor, Romford edit, is the same locates to the same part of England as the other 82... ips who have reverted me on a whole host of other articles. Coincidence, not. CassiantoTalk 22:54, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

Cassianto - Good to see you again. Oh, most definitely not :-P. Cool I'll take a look. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:56, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
You too. Thanks, I expect there's some fancy bit of software which enables someone to search how many tines I've had the misfortune to be reverted by an 82 ip. I suspect it's a banned or blocked user, somewhere, or someone who is logging out in order to bait me. But since I struggle with such technology, I thought I'd leave it to someone who's in the know with such things. CassiantoTalk 23:02, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
Another day, another batch of reverts by the same user using different ip addresses: here, here and here. CassiantoTalk 19:23, 23 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi Cassianto - thanks for the follow-up and for the diffs. I ran a WHOIS for those IPs, and they come back as being from various Telefonica networks in the UK. Piecing together the information from the WHOIS information, I see that this ISP splits their IP ranges between their different hubs and what is reflected on the WHOIS. NinjaRobotPirate has correctly blocked the range (which is 82.132.192.0/18), so I think this IP range is taken care of. The 82.24.168.158 IP hasn't edited for quite some time, so I'll leave this one be for now. Let me know if you need anything else and I'll be happy to take a look. Hope you had a good holiday. Hi Oshwah, you blocked an IP from editing Perfect (Ed Sheeran song) but they've basically said they will come back and do it again. Can you maybe protect the page? There's enough disruptive/unhelpful recent IP edits to justify protection I believe. Ss112 03:22, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

No, but you can. You need to discuss the issue on the article's talk page. Follow Wikipedia's dispute resolution protocol and resolve it properly. If you continue to edit and revert each other on the article, it can result in being blocked. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:30, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

ok, I guess I don't care, but did you even check the link?

So you deleted an edit, and it wasn't a real edit, I probably should have just fixed the page myself, but why do I think that wouldn't fly either? So, "to insure neutrality," whatever that means, you leave the absurd link and the fake town of "Rack City?" There is no Rack City, in California or otherwise. It is the name of a hip-hop album. The link (I didn't link it) opens the Rack City album page. What's my beef with you? It isn't that you took out my dumb edit, it's that you only care enough to delete it, you can't use common sense and realize that the link doesn't make sense and that the town doesn't exist. Some editor. My edit was intended to lead someone who cares to fix it. The claim of a residence in Mexico also looks like a vandalism entry. Please forgive my snide tone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.29.59.220 (talk) 04:44, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

I believe that you're referring to this edit, which I reverted for having issues in regards to Wikipedia's policy on wording articles in a neutral point of view. This edit does not do this; it implies opinion and commentary, which is not the manner in which we add content to articles. What link are you referring to exactly? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:01, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

About changes of LA Lakers' Page

Hi, Oshwah The content I removed only makes sense before today. The content is about Lakers will retire Kobe's two jersey numbers on 19 Dec, 2017. Just now, the ceremony has finished and his two numbers have been officially retired. Thus, the content is out of date and irrelevant to that section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ezrastan (talkcontribs) 05:08, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Regarding Melon Music Awards

Hello sir/madam.

Please remove Global Artist from Main awards. I moved it because it is NOT a main award.

In Korea, main awards are given out yearly, while special awards can be given out 1 year and then next year not. So that is why I moved it to special awards, where it was from start. You can even check judging criteria, where it is written as a special award. Thank you

Hi there, and thanks for leaving me a message with your explanation. This looks like a major removal - might I recommend that you start a talk page discussion and explain this removal first? This way, you can provide additional information and sources to support your assertions, and other editors will be able to read and respond to your concerns. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Best -- ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:15, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

Hello

You just banned an account Vunutu for using multiple accounts. How does one see which accounts are using more than one account? I mean which tool is used? I was unable to find anything in the Twinkle dropdown on the page of the user. Elektricity (talk) 05:16, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi Elektricity, and thanks for leaving me a message with your questions. I apologize for the delay responding to you; I was taking a break for the holiday and I'm just now catching up with my Wikipedia messages and emails. There are many ways to identify and assert that multiple accounts are being abused by the same person to disrupt Wikipedia. The typical behavior that most editors notice and suspect this are seeing more than one account editing the same article or discussion, pretending to be two different people, and having the same exact behaviors that both accounts share in common. Examples of such similar behaviors are things such as editing the exact same area of the article, using the exact same source, using the same words, punctuation, grammar, anything that's not a common practice that both accounts demonstrate (like if you saw someone who has a habit of adding a space before the use a comma, then seeing a "new account" do the same thing). Thins such as this. Spotting and identifying these accounts isn't a simple task, and making an accusation requires proof that's satisfactory and justifiable; never make an accusation based off of "suspicions" you cannot prove, or because more than one person just happens to disagree with you "so they must be the same person". You can check out Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations and Wikipedia:Sock puppetry for in-depth information regarding this policy. If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask me them and I'll be more than happy to answer them and help you further :-). Best regards -- ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:30, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

Joe Jackson's public image section

The information that I added is not intended to defy Wikipedia's neutrality policy, since I did provide sources to prove that Michael did in fact regret his choice of words to describe his childhood discipline, as the source I provided verified it and according to J. Randy Taraborelli, he bought Joseph a car.

It is well-documented that Michael was acquitted of child molestation while Randy was jailed for assaulting his wife and daughter, but released, but if there was any source that contained potentially libellous claims or statements, I would never add it to Wikipedia, let alone as a source, so perhaps you sent me this BLP message by mistake, because as I said earlier, the source provided did confirm what I had added.

61.69.217.3 (talk) 05:46, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi there, and thanks for leaving me a message here. Regarding your edit to Joe Jackson (manager): The content you added included "Joseph was clearly hurt and even went on TV to say he was unaware of Michael regurgitating while Michael himself later regretted his choice of words to describe Joseph's discipline, so he bought him a new automobile." You state that he was "clearly hurt"; this seems like a matter of opinion to me than content that's impartial and not a user observation or viewpoint. This was the concern I had; it had nothing to do with the other content (and the ABC news source) you added in your previous edit. It looks like I reverted both changes, and I apologize for that. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. I apologize for the delay responding to you; I was taking a break for the holiday and I'm just now catching up with my Wikipedia messages and emails. Vinayak Damodar Savarkar - Gauri a11 (talk) 06:05, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Hello ,

I made some edits to the "religious views" section of Savarkar's webpage but it was rejected due to neutrality issues as I understand it. Please let me know what I need to do or what type of reference material I need to provide to incorporate this change. Gauri a11 (talk) 06:05, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi Gauri a11, and thanks for leaving me a message here. I felt that your edit here to Vinayak Damodar Savarkar had issues with neutral point of view because you added this sentence: "His respect for scientific and logical thinking, his in-depth knowledge of Hindu scriptures and philosophy, and his practice of karma-yoga are indicators of his inherent spirituality rooted in Hindu Dharma." I believe that this adds commentary and speaks positively to the subject by you, which is why I reverted your edit. The link in my response here will take you to the policy page, and give you information on how to modify the content to eliminate this concern. I highly recommend that you read through it. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to help you. Thanks again for the message, and I apologize for the delay responding to your message here. Hello Oshwah,

I am not great at navigating through Wikipedia's edit system. I don't even know how to use the little curvy signs for signing my name but I will try. The source I used was the website that I put in the explanation of edit line. I haven't learned how to use the reference icon either. So I will simply not edit the article until I learn how. Mind going a little easy on this IP? He's trying to update the article (I also suspect English is not his first language). Since it's a radio station, he's also trying to eliminate the old logo (and say the ownership of the station has changed when a concession transfer has not hit the IFT yet). But the info he has is generally correct. Raymie (tc) 08:08, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Hindenburg disaster

At Hindenburg disaster it looks to me like you reverted way too much. Only the most recent edit before yours, by 116.48.27.131 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), was vandalism. Kendall-K1 (talk) 13:55, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Kendall-K1 - I don't see much of a major difference. Is there something I'm missing? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:59, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
Below in the diff more changes are there. You also reverted GreenC bot's edits and some other edits. Galobtter (pingó mió) 14:02, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
I'm not sure I would say it's a major difference, but every bit helps. "Despite this, the skin alone to burn too slowly" doesn't make sense. It's certainly possible to figure out what's meant, but it makes the reader stop and try to figure out the intended meaning. "while Chu's photographs were shown New York Daily News" again makes no sense, and is even harder to read. Why would you show a newspaper to a bunch of inanimate photos? And "spectator's" is just wrong, as the area accommodates more than one person.
I don't mean to complain, and I certainly appreciate your efforts to fight vandalism. The only reason I bring this up at all is to explain my own action in reverting you, so that you won't think I'm a vandal. Kendall-K1 (talk) 14:07, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
Kendall-K1 - Or.... or..... you could..... be trying to explain this in order to trick me, because you actually ARE THE VANDAL!!!! I knew it! It was you the entire time!!! :-P ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:11, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

West Wratting wiki page.

Hi,

I made a change to this page as it is inaccurate when it says that West Wratting is the highest village in Cambridgeshire. There was a discussion in the Cambridge News, where a contributor stated that to resolve the issue of which village is the highest, he asked Ordnance Survey to comment. They said that it was Great Chishill. Hence my amendment.

I did want to edit the top headline in this page but I can't see how to do that.

Hope you are happy with this explanation and that you will edit the initial text to reflect the facts.

Thank you,

Hi there! And thanks for leaving me a message here. When you refer to "a discussion in the Cambridge News", I assume you have a link to this discussion? Was it a news release? Or just a discussion between users in comments? This information is important when it comes to determining whether or not your source is reliable or not. Fixed a spelling error which got reverted

Hi, I'm a native Dutch speaker and this edit I made just got reverted, even though I had only corrected the spelling of the word. In Dutch, compound words are normally written without spaces and it is considered incorrect when the space is included. It wouldn't make sense to include the space (as if it were following English rules for compound words) since the word isn't in English—this is probably exactly why there's an English translation right beside it. 92.109.227.50 (talk) 15:51, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

ANI follow-up

Hello Oshwah.

You recently gave a quick 24-hour preemptive block to @Rìgh: for personal attacks and other disruption at Stephan Molyneux talk page. The user came right back to pick up where he left off after the block expired. Things went quiet after the block, but now I'm concerned this is going to lead to pile-on of further attacks and disruption. FYI @Malinaccier: closed the ANI thread and I didn't know whether it was OK to post this concern there or to re-open the matter at ANI. SPECIFICO talk 16:37, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

It looks like Seraphimblade has blocked Righ for another week. If he comes back and repeats the personal attacks I would support an indefinite block. Malinaccier (talk) 16:48, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Reverted sugar maple categorization?

Hi!

You reverted my change listing sugar maple as a hardwood forest plant. I'm not sure why - it is a tree known to grow in North American temperate broadleaf forests. Why?

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.230.192.138 (talkcontribs)

Kilt and Clover Edits

To Whom it May Concern

Hello,

I just added some text to the Kilt and Clover restaurant page concerning their display of pro-Trump campaign materials (i.e. propaganda). The Trump-Pence flag is on display, including custom "Make Port Dalhousie Great Again" hats on display in multiple cases. The restaurant, while of course known for its other events listed on the page, has become identifiable locally given its display of said propaganda.

My edit was removed for not being 'constructive', while it is objectively true that the restaurant displayed this propaganda. I make no normative statements about the quality or desirability of displaying this particular type of political material, I was just stating a fact. I would be happy to re-word it or include it in a separate section if that would be desirable.

There's a link to the article here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilt_and_Clover

Thanks,

Iraq conflict (2003–present)

Hello, I saw that recently you changed the protection level of Iraqi Civil War (2014–present) due to the ongoing vandalism. The article itself is in the midst of a dispute over the end date of the war and it is prohibited to make changes to that date until a consensus is reached on the talk page over the issue. Although at the moment it would seem an overwhelming consensus is that the war is still ongoing. I would like to point out that a closely-linked problem has arisen at another closely-linked article. As you know, the article you protected is about the current phase of the overall Iraq conflict (2003–present). Any discussion at the civil war article closely affects the overall article as well. A newly created account, which would seem to be mostly focused on changing the end date of the conflict (a single-purpose account?), is constantly inserting an unsourced end date for the overall Iraq conflict. The user has been constantly reverted by me and I have asked him three times (both in edit summaries and on his talk page) to join in on the discussion at the talk page for the current phase of the conflict and I pointed out to him that at the moment overwhelming consensus is that the phase and thus the general conflict are still ongoing. The user has ignored me, made no form of communication, and continued to make the unsourced edits. He has also constantly inserted the unsourced end date to the also closely-linked American-led intervention in Iraq (2014–present) and Operation Inherent Resolve. I feel a measure of protection (possibly semi) is required for the Iraq conflict (2003–present) article, as well as maybe but not necessarily the other two ones. Thanks in advance! EkoGraf (talk) 22:43, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi EkoGraf! I apologize for the delay getting back to you about this message here. I was on break for the holiday and I'm now just getting caught up with all of my messages and emails here. Yes it is D7oom021, but he has now apparently stopped changing the date (end-date) for the conflict. After I left him a message asking him to stop a few days later he thanked on my edit to his talk page and he hasn't made any new attempts since then to change the date. User RickyRolling

Hi Oshwah. I contacted Doug Weller about this, looked into writing up and ArbEnf request, balked, and thought it worth bringing up with you as the last admin to block him:

I was cleaning up some articles when I came across these edits by RickyRolling (talk · contribs). I didn't think much of them until I saw all the messages on his talk page including a discretionary sanctions notice.

Looking over every edit since the last block of June 18, all his edits appear to violate sanctions. Basically, he's been going around blanking information such as [28] [29]. I've cleaned up what others hadn't already. --Ronz (talk) 22:51, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi Ronz! I apologize for the delay getting back to you; I was away for the holiday and I'm getting caught up with my messages here. It looks like this account has only edited once in December (on the 10th) - which was quite awhile ago. Taking action at this time would be against policy. However, if you see that issues and disruption continue with this user, do let me know and I'll be happy to take a look. Hope you had a good holiday! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:06, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

List of fashion events

Hi Oshwah, I had to correct the page List of fashion events according to relevant resources such as Forbes. There are no major 6 fashion weeks around the world. According to fashion experts, and media there are only 5 major fashion events. The information is supported by forbes. Someone who is connected to the other fashion weeks have tried to push their events by changing this info without reliable citation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robschnell (talkcontribs) 23:22, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Unreliable source?

Hi. Just curious about this edit, the effect of which was to remove "the Police Overseas Service Medal" from the purportedly cited content. I cannot relate your clearly careful edit summary "rv - not a reliable source per WP:BLP (HG) (3.3.3))". I got as far as BLP 3.3 but don't twig the other 3 or the meaning of HG. Personally, I would have used [failed verification], but I've a feeling I must have missed something here. There can be no question about ABC News being a reliable source, but that doesn't seem to be your point. Regards, Bjenks (talk) 02:15, 20 December 2017 (UTC)i

Hi Bjenks - Nope, there's no question that ABC News is reliable :-). I was looking at only one of the diffs this user made to the article (whichever one was next on the queue); I didn't make sure to look for other edits first so that I combine and view them all put together..... which is my problem here. Had I so, I would have understood the edit to be just one of a larger group of edits that were good, and obviously wouldn't have reverted it. It was one of those small changes he made... I'll need to find it. Either way, I should have seen that, and the changes he made shouldn't have reverted... I need to resolve that..... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:27, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

James Spader

Hi! I've noticed that you put James Spader's Birthday as Feb 7 1966, but he was in this movie in 1978 where his character turns 17, so if his birthday was in 1966, he would have been 12 years old acting in that film. Also if you go on IMDb, it states that he was born in 1960. It also says on Wikipedia that he dropped out of high school to go pursue an acting career in New York, so if he was born in 1966, he would have dropped out of high school in 1984, and it says that he has been an active actor since 1978.

If you could change is back to 1960, that would be great

Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:387:5:80D:0:0:0:A6 (talk) 02:18, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

Risotto

My edit simply omitted the word "edible" from the phrase "edible mushrooms" in a sentence describing a cooked dish (while retaining the wikilink to the article "edible mushrooms". What was the reasoning behind undoing the edit? Tgoodwil (talk) 02:24, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

Ugh, same situation I described earlier... Tgoodwil, I apologize. I made some changes to my filtering rules on my RC Patrolling tool, and I'm starting to suspect that I've messed it up somewhere... I rolled back the revert I made. Thanks for letting me know about this.... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:36, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
Oshwah, I really admire your friendliness and enthusiasm, so please don't take this the wrong way, but you need to SLOW.DOWN. And possibly take a break from Huggle, since you seem to be having lots of problems with it lately for a while now. Storytime: when I first joined Wikipedia, I would forget to log in often. The only RC patroller I had problems with as an IP was you. To be fair, I wasn't using edit summaries or being very communicative, but I was also new and inexperienced. One day you mass reverted I think my most recent 50 contributions because you "thought it looked like vandalism", or something to that extent. When I finally confronted you about this, I got this half-hearted apology, and I had to manually undo your reverts of my edits. I know you meant well, but that incident kind of soured my experience here as an unregistered editor. Sro23 (talk) 02:52, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
Sro23 - Sigh... I agree with you. And thank you for voicing your concerns. I let myself experiment with filter rule changes in my Huggle config these past few days, and I wasn't doing my part in being careful afterwards and with analyzing how my queue would change as a result. And now I've made a lot of errors because I didn't go slow enough to make sure that my changes weren't going to start screwing with things.... which obviously brings the concerns with my speed into play as well. The conversations I had with others that I screwed up with today (including this one) have pushed me off of my comfortable and fluffy "Huggle chair" and I'm definitely awake and I am listening. I need to fix my custom options so that good hits are enqueued, but I also just need to put this feedback onto my radar regarding my speed. I just need to use Huggle with a few steps between myself and the screen, and take everything down a couple notches and chill....... I guess I've also let myself get wound up lately, which obviously doesn't help with things ;-). I'm sorry that I allowed this to happen. I just don't want to start worrying anyone or to get myself put onto the "keep eyes on him" Wikipedia no-fly list because, "Oh oh! Oshwah's going off the fritz now! I gotta keep my eye on his shit.... he's gonna keep screwing things up worse and worse and its gonna doom us!" I appreciate your feedback, and I will honor it. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:46, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for listening. :) I would be lying if I said I never catch myself going way too fast at times either. In my opinion, accuracy is more important than speed. Sro23 (talk) 04:02, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
  • Although some messages just aren't reply-able here in any constructive sense (like the one I answered), there's some that are worth a reply, and don't get one; above is someone who has posted twice in order to get your attention about something you reverted in a religious views section of some BLP. In the nicest possible way, if you want CU/OS rights next year or in the future, start answering your talk page, and as Ritchie333 noted, it might be a violation of WP:ADMINACCT. I don't use Huggle anymore because it is too easy to make mistakes; it is like trying to deal with changes at arms length, so if you're with reverting on-wiki it makes things much more easier in this sense. I'd say go and turn on the new recent changes, and try to fiddle around with some of the filters it has. There's live updates, a highlighting system -- it is probably the least shittiest thing that the WMF has tried to dish out to us. You won't be able to catch every single edit anymore, but you'll be able to slow down and take things more carefully. Regards !dave 09:22, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
My name is not dave - Thanks for following up as well. I'm taking a break from Huggle for awhile - I think it's something I should do nonetheless. I try to keep caught up with my talk page messages as much as possible; I receive a lot of messages, so it's not always possible. Rest assured, I try to respond to all sincere messages as best I can. Sometimes I miss some, however. I see that you've responded to some messages below while I was on break for Christmas - I appreciate it very much. Hello, I know that this is very late, especially considering that these messages were sent in March 2016 however you messaged me stating that I was editing and vandalising an article for North Liverpool Academy. I can safely say that I have never visited that page before nor have I edited anything for the past few years (and I would do so with my username) so it was not me who did this and I suspect that you may have made a mistake. Happy Holidays
From Stave one of Dickens A Christmas Carol

Old Marley was as dead as a door-nail. Mind! I don’t mean to say that I know, of my own knowledge, what there is particularly dead about a door-nail. I might have been inclined, myself, to regard a coffin-nail as the deadest piece of ironmongery in the trade. But the wisdom of our ancestors is in the simile; and my unhallowed hands shall not disturb it, or the Country’s done for. You will therefore permit me to repeat, emphatically, that Marley was as dead as a door-nail.

Hello Oshwah; merry Christmas!

Hi Oshwah, how are you doing? Hope all is well at your end. Merry Christmas and happy holidays.

I also wanted to request you for something. At my last Rfa, you had provided exhaustive feedback on the areas you would wish to see me improve (esp. the responses to vandalism and to vandals). Since then, I've worked on my orientation quite a bit and have personally experienced the benefit of the remodeled approach. At the same time, I'd want to request you to give a quick look to my edits and give me feedback if required. It would be wonderful if you could take some time out for that. Look forward to hearing from you. Again, happy new year. And as always, love and wishes, Lourdes 08:41, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

SVKM's NMIMS

Hi there. I'm contacting you as the administrator who protected SVKM's NMIMS. It seems like the same minute the protection was lifted (maybe by coincidence) the same editor has returned with pretty much the same disruptive edits, introducing unsourced accreditation and other material. Best regards. --Muhandes (talk) 23:35, 25 December 2017 (UTC)

Your page seemed familiar, so I searched a bit... Actually, I already discussed this one with you. --Muhandes (talk) 23:38, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
Muhandes - No problem. Did you still need help with this? Or are things still good to go? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:18, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
Sorry I wasn't clear. User:Nirvana dreamer which you blocked based on his edits at SVKM's NMIMS, then came back as multiple IPs which you blocked, extended the block on the user and protected the article. As the protection was lifted, he came back as User:Blr80. So yes please, help is needed, he keeps the same edit pattern, trying to introduced unsourced accreditation. --Muhandes (talk) 07:38, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
Muhandes - I've left a message on the user's talk page. Let me know how things go... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:24, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Blr80 - See the message I left on your user talk page. I really need you to read it, follow the advice I left, and let me know if you have any questions. Don't continue editing the article and adding content that's in dispute; review these policies and discuss your changes before you make any more. The repeated addition of unreferenced content is becoming disruptive, and if it continues, you might be temporarily blocked for that. Please don't make me be the bad guy :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:26, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
I'm afraid this didn't work, here is the same edit again. --Muhandes (talk) 06:57, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
I'm sorry to bother you with this, but again, a primary source is used and the editor continues with the disruptive editing, refusing to discuss things. If you rather that I take this elsewhere please let me know. --Muhandes (talk) 18:53, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
Was blocked indef by someone else, so I guess for now the issue is closed. --Muhandes (talk) 07:56, 7 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Oshwah. I came across User:Getaway Car/2017 in Vincent's life while doing some non-free image cleanup. It appears to be some kind of blog/diary and there is also a similar page for each year going back to 2012. Looking at the recent contributions of this editor, it appears that most of them for the past year have been to the editor's userpages, including creating things such as User:Getaway Car/vinceroyalty. Not sure what if anything needs be done here, but it does seem to be a case of WP:NOTWEBHOST. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:24, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Defender of the Wiki Barnstar
Others may disagree, but I think you made the right call with your initial block. If anything, the unblock was too hasty. Only a fool uses the term 'legal' while making a threat and then throws a tantrum when his threat is interpreted as a legal threat. Don't pay any attention to the insults; you're doing a fine job. Lepricavark (talk) 03:37, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
Hi Lepricavark - I appreciate the barnstar and for your kind words. I stand behind the interpretation that the message would constitute a legal threat to most typical readers, and I don't think the unblock was too hasty :-). He clarified the statement and what "legal" referred to, and hence I unblocked him. That was the center of the issue of the discussion, and since it was clarified, immediate unblocking was the right action to take :-). It's never fun to be "the bad guy", but it comes with the responsibility. Thanks again, Lepricavark. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:45, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
Good block. Handled swiftly. There are some senior editors whose opinions I respect who seem to think the block was hasty, but given the response of the blocked party afterwards, it appears that Tony was angry (and hasty himself) before the block and is still angry after he did the (bare) minimum to get it lifted. Something going on which has little to do with Wikipedia, I'd infer from Tony's misspelling in the OP's link. When I invest trust in an admin candidate, I'm hoping that admin will act in the moment on their best judgment. I believe that's what I saw. Easy to second guess, but I thank you for your service. BusterD (talk) 03:52, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
Everyone is good at second guessing, hindsight is 20/20, but it was a good block at the time. I'm happy if an admin who is quick to block is also quick to listen and unblock -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 03:55, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Okay this is too much. It was an honest and forgivable mistake undone with admirable swiftness but we shouldn't be giving out barnstars for mistakes, especially ones that involve blocking a 12 year contributor and one of the best writers on the encyclopedia without even having a word with him first. So here's a trout instead. Gamaliel (talk) 03:54, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Trouts are unhelpful as a general rule, but this one is ridiculous. With Tony1 continuing to vent his spleen without consequences, there is no need for anyone else to yell at Oshwah, especially since he was completely right in the first place. Lepricavark (talk) 03:58, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
I have no intention of yelling at anyone. I have no issue with Oshwah, only with those who think that bad blocks are cause for celebration. Gamaliel (talk) 04:00, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
'Yell' was a poor choice of words on my part. You are misrepresenting my opinion. I am not celebrating a bad block, as I obviously believe it was a good block. Tony1's vitriolic, bigoted reaction to being told 'Merry Christmas' was grounds in and of itself for him to be blocked for much longer than the mere half hour he actually spent blocked. Lepricavark (talk) 04:04, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
The trouting is fine :-). He's free to whack me with a slippery nasty one, just as you are free to leave the barnstar that you did - Gamaliel is stating his opinion, and he's entitled to it as you are with yours. No big deal :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:05, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
I admire your unflappable demeanor throughout this situation and you are right about it not being a big deal, so I'll stop arguing. Lepricavark (talk) 04:11, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
Lepricavark - Nothing on Wikipedia is worth getting worked up over... especially silly things like this :-). I appreciate your kind words. To end with a quote I have on my user page: "Raise your words, not your voice. It is the rain that grows flowers, not thunder." - Rumi ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:16, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
That's a good quote. I should write that one down somewhere. Lepricavark (talk) 04:25, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

You're earning your hefty admin pay today! --NeilN talk to me 04:05, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

NeilN - No kidding :-). I appreciated your input on the ANI, NeilN. It was fair and neutral and I appreciated it greatly - thank you. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:06, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
  • I don't give out barnstars when someone does their job; it was a good block. There was no way you could have known that something else was intended, if that's what it was. You also don't deserve to get trouted, so I'm taking that thing with me. Take it easy Oshwah, Drmies (talk) 04:16, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
To clarify, I also usually wouldn't give out barnstars for someone simply doing their job. In this case, I was partly motivated by the flak Oshwah was catching; flak that I felt was unfair. I hope that makes sense. Lepricavark (talk) 04:25, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
It's the thought that counts, right? ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:26, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
That's what I keep telling my parents, but they still aren't happy with the box of toothpicks I gave them for Christmas. I'm kidding. They were delighted. Lepricavark (talk) 04:31, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
  • As a matter of principle, I think the block was too quick (7 minutes after the report); in hindsight, the wording was not really clear cut, since the opinions on the "impression" in the AN/I thread appears to be split (I share the same initial impression with NeilN, SlimVirgin, Newyorkbrad and Casliber). Given that Tony1 was active at the time, personally I think an immediate clarification/redaction request/warning would have sufficed (especially given that Tony1 was still editing 20 minutes ago prior to the block). I am not saying we should treat experienced editors differently, but I think it's necessary to read over the contribution history and backgrounds to avoid potential backlash (creating unnecessary drama), and that's my rationale for "too quick". The subsequent response by Tony1 however does prove that the editor was not really willing to interact collegially, in which I think the block was fine and justified given the context. Thank you for your work, Oshwah! Alex Shih (talk) 05:24, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
Alex Shih - I appreciated your input very much, and I will take it to heart moving forward. Thank you :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:26, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
I'd agree that I'd probably have gone "Are you sure you want to do this, Tony?" first, but it certainly wasn't a bad block, and I'm still utterly baffled at his explosion that led to the whole mess - I agree with both Lepricavark there (perhaps not to the point of an immediate block for that, but certainly a 'Last And Final'), and Alex's assessment of the aftermath. And I remain completely flummoxed how anyone could consider "a legal matter" to refer to ANI. Anyway, hopefully the morning will help Tony look at things soberly and reconsider his flounce, and we can all move on with defending the encyclopedia. - The Bushranger One ping only 06:14, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

I know you acted with good intent, Oshwah, as I said on Tony's talk page, but I also suggest you apologize to him there. You aren't required to, of course, but it might help mend things. Jonathunder (talk) 06:32, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Designated Drivers edit

Designated Driver services have been available in Singapore since 2011 and have gain much more awareness through the years. Service providers links up with many clubs and popular night spots to actively promote their Drive-Home services for intoxicated drivers. The Singapore Police Force too have been promoting #dontdrive2drink advise to drivers. Don’t Drive to Drink, and You’d Never Drink and Drive.

It’s a fact. Edited and removed any businesses link.

External link to our website removal acceptable. This is a fact. Why omit Singapore?

Course of action

Hello there Oshwah. I just read the summary of my report at ANI. The sanctions against him were lifted almost immediately (he was not sanctioned for the insults and the attack against me—just because I wished him Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year—) and the editor went back to the article and reverted for the third time (he even restored the incoherent phrase in the introduction). Should I file a 3RR? Is there a point in doing that against someone who says that he retired from wiki? Thank you, take care. I would like to wish you a Happy New Year and I sincerely hope you won't be insulted by it. Gtrbolivar (talk) 12:41, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Gtrbolivar - Why would I be insulted if you wished me a happy new year? lol :-). No; filing a 3RR report isn't needed. The situation since then has changed (due to the events at the ANI) and the editing on the article has obviously stopped, so blocking this user for edit warring (aside from making the user much more angrier and becoming more uncivil with their comments) would be inappropriate and not made in a preventative measure given the events and timeline. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks for the message, and I wish you well :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:48, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
The world has changed dramatically Oshwah. As I learned yesterday, even inside an online encyclopedic project, people could actually attack you just because you wished them Merry Christmas and a happy new year. Anyway, as I explained in my last post, after you lifted the sanctions against him, he went back to the article and reverted, reinstating his intial version [30] which contains the following incoherent phrase in the introduction: "Olympiacos Water Polo Team is the men's water polo team of the major Greek s Olympiacos CFP, based in Piraeus". The article is now left with his version after a clear 3RR. Should I revert it since I'm not allowed to file a 3RR? I would appreciate it if you could give me your advice. Gtrbolivar (talk) 13:04, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
Gtrbolivar - I think we need to expand the discussion and ask for the input of uninvolved users on the talk page first if possible, and have uninvolved input on the revision that should be published. I've fully protected the article; given the dispute as a whole, the reverts made to the article, and the fact that the entire issue (as well as the events that followed on the ANI) have resulted in very heated messages and different input from others, I think that fully protecting the article and making sure that we take the time to examine and discuss the dispute first is the right thing to do. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:15, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
I agree 100% that a discussion is the right way to proceed. Where should I state my arguments? I've already done so in the article's talk page. The article in now left with the sentence "Olympiacos Water Polo Club is the men's water polo team of the major Greek s Olympiacos CFP, based in Piraeus." which is incoherent and means nothing. Tony1 said that there was a "fault" with a script. Despite the fact that he admitted that this sentence is a "fault" he finally ended up reinstating it to the article just before retiring. Go figure. What should I do to change it now with the page fully protected? Gtrbolivar (talk) 13:26, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
Gtrbolivar - File an edit request for the change. Lets get your request documented for sake of process and policy, and go from there. If this is already being discussed on the article's talk page, are there other involved users that you can get to weigh in if Tony1 isn't going to respond further? If the edit warring and discussion doesn't continue and nobody objects to what's proposed on the article's talk page, the page can be unprotected at that point. The protection was applied to the article simply to stop the back-and-fourth reverting and get everyone to discuss it; if there's no danger of that continuing, the full protection isn't needed and can be removed... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:48, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Bhaswarchat - Your edits here to Bhaswar Chattopadhyay contain multiple issues, one of which being that some of the content doesn't appear to be worded in a neutral point of view. There were also references missing that I felt needed to be present. Please review Wikipedia's policies on neutral point of view, identifying reliable sources, and how to cite them in-line. A tag has been placed on User talk:Ugesh.saxena, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Richard Prior

So as Richard Prior, if I’ve changed my career and no longer wish to have that particular history reflected on this site, I can’t do that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gorecki3 (talkcontribs) 01:40, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) @Gorecki3: No, the article is a complete biography of a person's life. If reliable sources cover a career change we can add that in. Oshwah, I've reverted to an earlier version and revdeleted the copyright violations. --NeilN talk to me 02:05, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Gorecki3, allow me to offer you some advice. First, if you are Richard Prior, please declare your conflict of interest with respect to this article with a note on your user page. I would also mention it anytime you or your article are the subject of discussion.
NeilN and Osh: This article is sourced entirely to two primary sources, and 20 seconds of google turns up nothing to indicate much notability. I would be (after a bit of a more thorough check tomorrow) willing to nominate it at AfD. That's not exactly what Gorecki asked for, but it would remove the information they don't like being on WP. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 02:26, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Most of the information in the article is now incorrect. It’s not a PhD - it’s an AMusD. There is no PhD in those fields from Nottingham at from that time. I am no longer the conductor at Rome and haven’t been for the past several years. That is not my correct (and now former) position at Emory University. I am also American. This all needs to be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gorecki3 (talkcontribs) 03:39, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

@Gorecki3: Part of what you copied was this: "His musical training began in his native England..." and "Richard Prior is Senior Lecturer in Composition and Director of Orchestral Studies at Emory University where he holds the Edward Goodwin Scruggs Chair." Please explain. --NeilN talk to me 03:47, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Sure. I gave up U.K. citizenship when I got U.S. citizenship. I am not legally British.

As of 12/17, I am no longer at Emory University since assuming a position in the FinTech industry. What else would you like to know? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gorecki3 (talkcontribs) 04:11, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

@Gorecki3: As MjolnirPants said above, he will probably nominate the article for deletion. Do you want that? If not, do you have any sources that you can point to that show you meet our notability guidelines for academics or musicians? I see you held the Edward Goodwin Scruggs Conducting Chair but I'm not sure if that meets the "The person holds or has held a named chair appointment or distinguished professor appointment at a major institution of higher education and research (or an equivalent position in countries where named chairs are uncommon)" requirement. If the article is kept and there are no sources that cover the changes in your life we can walk you through the process of verifying your identity and getting corrections made. --NeilN talk to me 04:32, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Please nominate the article for deletion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gorecki3 (talkcontribs) 11:26, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Whoops - About the Joe the Plumber article

Hello. Sorry about that. I was trying to revert the last edit by the IP user, not yours. Quickfingers (talk) 01:53, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Quickfingers - I figured it was ;-). No problem - it happens and it's no big deal at all. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:56, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Kimberly Elise page edits

I am responding to your message to me at MNSOTACHICKY. Unfortunately I was unable to find your message to me on your talk page though I looked all over so I am responding here. You wrote: December 2017[edit]

Hello, I'm Oshwah. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Kimberly Elise seemed less than neutral to me, so I removed it for now. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:11, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

The changes that were made included updates to her career and all were cited by unbiased major news publications. It was straight factual information with no opinion attached to the information. That would seem neutral to me.

Updates were made to add that she is an entrepreneur. Currently her wikipage only lists her as an actress. This is incomplete information. If the goal of Wiki is to info people who an individual is, then it incomplete to only list her profession as an actress and exclude that she is an entrepreneur who owns and runs her own corporation - this was also sited with a new article on her most current entrepreneurial activity.

Her picture was updated because the one currently posted is very old and is not representative of the way she looks now. The picture that is currently up, because it is on wiki, is the first photo that shows up of her on google and other searches. As such, the photo should be an accurate portrayal and current. The picture was loaded according to wiki procedures and is owned by me who uploaded it.

Please, if there are specific items that you would like me to change or remove, please tell me and I am happy to do it. Otherwise I am just not clear on what violations or non-neutral items you are referring to. Mnsotachicky (talk) 18:16, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

FitzWilly

A movie from my childhood which I liked because of Dick Van Dyke, whom I had already seen on his eponymous show, in Mary Poppins and Robin Crusoe, USN so I wanted to see the Wikipedia article. I noticed that St. Dismas is just a redirect to the penitent thief article and decided to cut out the middleman, so to speak, but if you like it better in there, feel free, I guess.
