South Manchuria Railway

[edit]

The trouble at South Manchuria Railway is that the article lead is written to say that the title refers to the lines, as opposed to the company. Checking sources I find that you are right, the company is often referred to this way, and also often with company, and that few mentions are about the lines. So we should fix that, yes? Dicklyon (talk) 19:00, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

OK, try that. The point is, if we represent a title as being a proper name, the article, and most especially the lead paragraph, should be about the thing named, not, in this case, about the lines. Dicklyon (talk) 19:12, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User group for Military Historians

[edit]

Greetings,

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

Additions to Korean Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi, I'm working on translating Bottega Veneta from English into Korean and was wondering if you have time to help me out. I found your username on wikiproject:Korean and saw that you're fluent in both English and Korean. I have a paid COI regarding Bottega Veneta, but my main concern here is ensuring that the information available in English is available and up to date in Korean as well. I have a translated version of the article on Sandbox. Would you mind reviewing it for accuracy as well as its compliance with Wikipedia guidelines? Again, how do we know which of the goals in the infobox relates to the goal on YouTube? What if there are missing games/goals etc. We don't. GiantSnowman 10:09, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No, we use reliable stats sources such as Soccerway to verify the stats. GiantSnowman 10:15, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've found plenty of issue with Soccerway, too, when it comes to "less-important" countries... they rarely bother with league stats... also, there's frequently accuracy issues with their club names/locations, player nationalities, etc etc... they're great for the bigger countries/leagues, but not really better than anything else for any other leagues/countries. Even though one could scour things together for stats in not very much time looking at news media reports from the given countries, they rarely do... I *would*, but where to put the couple dozen links to post-match reports in this or that mainstream media source in Cambodia or whatever country?... is it better to have a blank page? I don't think so... 2Q (talk) 10:30, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, it's always better to have no stats than incorrect stats. GiantSnowman 10:36, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

[edit]

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Replaceable fair use File:Sokchon Bay Bridge opening ceremony.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Sokchon Bay Bridge opening ceremony.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 15:07, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Hello. Per WP:OR you can only write what the sources say, and the source you provided does not say that the Asia Express was "comparable to the fastest express trains in Europe and the USA", only that it, in the manufacturer's opinion, was a "world class train". And trains can be world class in many ways, for example in amenities onboard (the Orient Express was a world class train during its entire existence, but it was never a fast train...). The speed of the Asia Express (maximum speed 75mph and average speed 50mph) also isn't even close to the fastest express trains in Europe and the United States during that time period (the fastest steam trains in Europe reached speeds of over 120mph during the mid 1930s, pulling a rake of carriages, and speeds in excess of 100mph, pulling a long string of carriages, were common in both Europe and the US at that time). A tag has been placed on Category:Locomotive manufacturers of Korea requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. A tag has been placed on Category:Engineering companies of Korea requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Caps

[edit]

It's weird that you created so many station articles with Station capped in the title, but the same term lowercase in the infobox photo caption. Are you familiar with WP:NCCAPS? Dicklyon (talk) 03:05, 23 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Ost316. I noticed that you recently removed content from Yellowstone Park Railroad without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Please nominate pages for deletion or discussion rather than blanking them. Ost (talk) 16:46, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Trolleybus

[edit]

I am interested, have you looked into trolleybuses in north Korea elsewhere? As far as I can read and see, there never was a trolleybus network in Haeju, at least not after 1991, when the Institute for Peace Affairs did their survey. Similarly, the network in Kowon is actually in Sudong district and is confirmed to exist. Most importantly, do you know anything else in particular to the network in Haeju? thanks. Correction to previous election announcement

The voting will occur here; sorry about the need for a second message and the inadvertent omission from the prior one. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 17:40, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
