Ameer, it's great to know you'll be coming regularly again. I've only been back from my own wiki-break for a couple of weeks myself, but hopefully this time it'll be a longer run. Yes, as I mentioned to Huldra, I am very much interested in working on the Umayyad Mosque. I've began gathering a few papers, and resources that we could use. There's a couple of books I'm waiting for from the Library (one is Ross Burns' Monuments of Syria), once I get them we could get to work. Welcome back ;) Yazan (talk) 18:15, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Nice to see you both around! As for article-cooperation: sorry, I do not know anything about Khayr al-Din al-Ramli...but I am interested on in working on Umayyad Mosque...sometime in the future. I will probably go on a wiki-break myself, in a week or two, for a couple of months. Until then, I´m basically cleaning up old stuff; however, I would *love* to expand Dayr al-Shaykh...it has a Mamluk shrine, still standing...lots about it in Petersen...and photos on commons! ..any takers? ;) Huldra (talk) 21:53, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Dayr al-Shaykh

Thanks for starting expanding Dayr al-Shaykh! I have continued, and according to my "DYK-checker", it qualified some time ago. Now, there is a LOT still to add....(I´m working on it..) ...but, could you please nominate it as a DYK now, when you feel like it? I wouldn´t like to see that it missed the date-line. Fadl ibn Salih

I couldn't find any English source on his death, but there seems to be an agreement between Arabic sources that it was 789. I added some information about his tenure in Egypt, but it might need some copyediting as I was in hurry (the ones I added to the Umayyad Mosque on Ayyubid and Mamluk as well). I'm still looking up some sources for the Umayyad mosque, but most of them about the architecture rather than the history. Will keep you posted. Best. Yazan (talk) 11:02, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

While searching for al-Fadl I also found a Ph.D. thesis about the Umayyad Mosque (uploaded to dropbox) that mentions that he also constructed the eastern dome (Dome of the Clock, in the mosque's courtyard). Yazan (talk) 11:16, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Ahlan beek ya Ameer! Thank you for your words ya sidi. It's amazing, spectacular, and still hard to believe! It's very surreal, you know: The Arab Spring at long last, انتفاضة الحرية. I'm a little worried the fighting in Libya might scare the rest of us from rising up, from fear of turning into similar Libyas. But this really is, exactly as you put it, our greatest victory in recent history, and I'm only so fortunate to have had the chance to witness and take part in it. The future looks bright, "!و قريب، كل واحد هيقدر يقول بكل فخر و اعتزاز "أنا عربي و عندي حقوق عربية Egypt's moving in the right way for the most, though the last 48 hours have been a bit worrying.. The old, infamous Muslim-Christian sectarianism has been flaring up again, and there's already proof that the old regime's hands are at play. Hopefully it'll only be some rough seas that we'll get out of soon.

Good point on America-vs-Gaddafi, I'll note that. I'm hoping something like a NATO no-fly zone, and Arab ground intervention can take place. At least, we should be training and arming the revolutionaries. But at least in Libya you know your enemy well and who you're shooting. Here, it's becoming more confusing, but there are so many positive signs, and the new Prime Minister is quite a change for good so far. We've got enormous obstacles ahead, but I know we have an even bigger spirit and will. I'm hopeful a stronger Arab bloc will arise of all this; our new shared sense of freedom is very powerful! --Sherif9282 (talk) 00:50, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Latakia’s Climate Classification

Greetings, Ameer. I’ve sourced the city’s climate classification. In short, basically Latakia has a Mediterranean Climate due to the fact that (A) it experiences wet winters and very dry summers and (B) it receives enough precipitation annually to not fall under the arid or semi-arid category. User:146.232.75.208,[1] appears to have difficulty understand original research and battleground mentality. He/she has introduced questionable sources from unpublished, highly nationalistic websites as "sources" for his/her anti-Turkic vendetta throughout Wikipedia.[2][3][4] I have had to restored references and referenced information from neutral published sources that User:146.232.75.208 finds unpalatable. I have also had to remove weasel words within referenced sentences, that User:146.232.75.208 has decided to subvert from their original meaning.[5] Could you take a look at this editor's actions? Excavations at Tel Jezreel has shown sign of habitation from the Chalcolithic period ("Some Notes on Early Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age Material from the Sites of 'En Jezreel and Tel Jezreel", Gophna, Ram; Shlomi, Varda, Tel Aviv: Journal of the Institute of Archaeology of Tel Aviv University, Volume 24, Number 1, March 1997 , pp. 73-82(10)), through the Bronze Age to the Iron Age and later. Nowhere, however, has the nature of the pre-Israelite settlement at the site been specified. It has not been characterized as a city, let alone a Canaanite one (Excavations in Tel Jezreel, note paragraph 4). We do not know when a city was founded at the site and by who.

What we do know, Jezreel's claim to fame and its name, come from the Bible and its role as the capital and residence of king Ahab of Israel. It is also this connection which has given it a prominent role in the archaeology of the region, especially the city and royal compound of the 9th century BCE. Prof. David Ussishkin, who led the dig at the sites, elaborates on this at Jezreel, Samaria and Megiddo: Royal Centres of Omri and Ahab. I do not know why Khalidi chooses to label it a "Canaanite city", but I suspect this has less to do with archaeology than with modern politics. Poliocretes (talk) 22:37, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Help, please

I was editing the Racism in Israel article. I wrote a paragraph on a poll produced by the Tel Aviv Univeristy on Israeli high schoolers attitude towards Israeli Arabs; I erased part of a paragraph that I deemed as being unbalanced in favour of Israeli Jews (the paragraph basically blamed "Arab aggression" for instances of Israeli Jewish street violence); and then I wrote on the Talk Page about what I regarded as pro-Israel bias in the article's style. A user, User:Cptnono, undid all of my edits. He left me a message on my Talk Page in which he asked me to provide further reasoning on my actions on that article. I did, and I agreed to discuss with him the paragraph I had removed and he later restored. But I informed him that I would restore the paragraph re the Tel Aviv University poll since it was properly sourced and worded. I would like a user and better yet an administrator to, please, observe further developments on that article and its talk page. I have received in my talk page a message by another user who accused User:Cptnono of being a biased, pro-Israel POV warrior who is skilled in scalating conflicts. He also issued me a warning due to the paragraph that I had removed before. He's no administrator. Can he really do that? I'm User:Guinsberg 186.212.104.16 (talk) 03:59, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

The full story would be appreciated if you are going to engage in canvassing. Guinsberg ha a history of removing sourced content. He violated 1/rr. He added the incorrect tags to line in a pointy fashion. Since you are an admin, Al Ameer son, you should take this opportunity to explain to Guinsberg why his editing is problematic and formally inform him of the arbitration case. Also, the removal of the poll information was because I misread the edit history. I thought he had actually removed that sourced information and did not object when he violated 1/rr to reinsert it.Cptnono (talk) 19:58, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Greetings Guinsberg. Just right off the back, if you feel you have due reason that an editor is being disruptive, you should post it on the Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents page. There, a range of admins could solve (or help solve) the issue. I don't think you are canvassing as Cptnono is alleging since you are not trying to enlist my support, but rather you want a non-involved editor too keep up with developments in the article. That being said, I scanned the discussion you two are having at Racism in Israel. Cptnono has acknowledged his mistake in removing the poll and it should be reinstated. As for tagging, you have the right to tag sections that you find unbalanced, but specific reasons should be listed on the talk page. It's better to discuss the problems and find a solution to them rather than tag every sentence in a passage(s). I encourage both of you to work together to improve the article and not accuse each other of bias ("pro-Israel POV warrior" being an example) since it will only lead to hostility. You guys seem to have been relatively civil on the talk page and this should be maintained. Also, as Cptnono pointed out, the article is subject to the arbitration and edit warring will result in a topic ban. Please see WP:1RR. --Al Ameer son (talk) 22:42, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
I don't have a history of removing articles. Anyone who has seen my Contribution history may notice that my contributions to many articles and topics far exceed instances where I have removed information. The instances in which I have done so is due to imabalances and opinionated edits. I have never engaged in edit warring, and whenever I've been told I'd acted wrong and against wikipedia protocol (of which I admitedly don't have much knowledge) I don't insist on the mistake. As for Cptnono apologizing for his vandalism, to say that his action was unintended is just impossible. The article's history shows that his edit was specifically directed to removing the sole paragraph I had written and that that edit of his, the one occurred in 07:20, 4 April 2011, he didn't do it by just clicking the edition reverting botton. please stop putting incorrect information

Thanks for your work on the article. Its much better. I am going to try to find english sources and replace them with the Arabic ones. I cant tell you honestly if copyediting that you have done is enough to remove the tag (I didnt add it) but I have placed a quest at the WP:GOCE Requests page to help clean up the page even more. Qur'an page rename

Al ameer son: recently some editors who are not Muslims overrode the Muslim voice to rename the Qur'an article. Insufficient time was given for the poll and many of the Muslim editors who maintain the page did not see what was happening. Abdullajh (talk) 04:09, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
