WikiProject NJ work

I had a wonderful family with the Name of Monks that lived on Grant Avenue in Pompton Lakes NJ. Coit, Mabel, and an adopted daughter Mary Ann. They were friends of my Cauchon family right across the street from 71 Grant Ave. Coit actually lived in what was called the main area of the Wanaque Resivour and was very tall when young too so he was a wire brusher to clean the fittings on the pipes to be welded going to the Newark Watershed pipes that delivered water to such places as Newark NJ. He also worked at Dupont De Nemours plant on Cannonball Road in Pompton Lakes as well. He had told me as a young boy after we became close and mentioned much about the area called Monksville. I believe he had stated his family had been the people who gave the area the name Monks. He was a fine man and his wife was very gracious and the daughter became a highly respected nurse and was a great friend of mine as well. I Raymond was the son of his friends Louis & Gladys Cauchon. We moved from the area in 1990 as I knew of the poisoning going on from the Dupont Plant as a plumber who had constructed the pipes moving the poisons from the plant to the area hidden under a damn in a local river. It was even named the ACID BROOK! Boy was it ever a good name for that.Coit knew of all the events that had led to this sham that destroyed the water and ground in our old town of Pompton Lakes. RC

I have been working on cleaning up the WP:NJ pages a bit. I added a section to the templates page to include the Eduction by County templates you made. I have left space for all of the counties, but wondered if you had any intention to make the rest of the templates? Also, as the founder of WPNJ, I would like to hear your opinion on the proposed new layout I have made at User:JimMillerJr/Sandbox/WPNJ redesign. Thanks. Proposed deletion of Charles Patrick Garcia

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Charles Patrick Garcia, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Mayuresh 07:10, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi, the prod was not added because the article was lacking material or anything, but because the subject of the article has requested this. Please lets discuss this further on the article talk page -Mayuresh 09:43, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Donovan McNabb

Hi Alansohn: The only references in the Donovan McNabb article are the ones I added—and there are precious few of those. There are no references, for example, for any of the details of his professional career. Just because it's "better than most of the articles on Wikipedia" doesn't mean there isn't a lot of room for improvement! : ) I'll continue to work on adding references; with the "needs references" tag, the article would also show up on the cleanup list of the appropriate wikiprojects, which means other editors might also help to improve it. That was my reason for restoring it (though I didn't add it in the first place). MeegsC | Talk 04:59, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Bridge rename

Actually, there was a reference posted. Looks like the law was signed on Friday. Best move it back. We can be updated before the regular NYS websites. - Denimadept (talk) 05:07, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Please watch your step at the above article talk page: this edit was out of order, and was made for no purpose but to fan the flames. I'm not sure what your problem is with Rlevse is, but your conduct towards him is out of order. Once again, please consider your words before you write them: future disruption will be met with a block. Anthøny 02:23, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your interest in this article. I can assure you that there was no "disruption" in any edit I have made to this article or its talk page, and there will be none in the future. While you, and other editors, are more than entitled to disagree with my statements, my goal is to ensure that the article is neutrally and objectively written, as required by WP:NPOV, and to address the current bias in the article. I will allow ample time for the editor in question to remedy the situation before I will consider adding material that appropriately satisfies WP:NPOV in describing reviews of the film in question. Alansohn (talk) 02:45, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Your repeated assertions that Rlevse is deliberately violating WP:NPOV, despite the fact that he's actively encouraging you and others to add balancing material to the article, is a violation of your well-earned and well-deserved ArbCom restriction, on the grounds of personal attack and assumption of bad faith. RedSpruce (talk) 12:02, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for your concern on this matter. I think that you may want to review WP:NPOV policy and the edits in question. Alansohn (talk) 12:11, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Valkenvania

Hello. I don't know if you read the comment I left on the page for Nothing but Trouble (1991 film) before you altered the article, so I'll repost it here:

The town is actually supposed to be in Pennsylvania. I remember thinking, "if they're going from NYC to AC, how would they end up in PA?" Nonetheless, they clearly enter PA. Moreover, at the end after the big explosion, the newscaster says that the blast could be heard in several neighboring states and lists New Jersey among them.

It doesn't make any geographic sense in the real world, nonetheless, in this work of fiction, Valkenvania is described as being in Pennsylvania. Chevy Chase even says something on the lines of "oh we're crossing the Delaware River, now we're in Pennsylvania," as unrealistic as that is. A critic for the New York Times isn't necessarily a reliable source, as he may have overlooked this attribute of the film since it seems so bizarre (i.e. in reality, going from NYC to AC takes one no where near PA). Now, I won't change it until I rent the film and watch it again to confirm, but I'm positive the town was in Pennsylvania as unrealistic as that seems. By any chance, have you seen the film in its entirety recently?

Also, the defunct municipalities of New Jersey page has been ruined by NE2, as I've mentioned to you before. I'm sure he meant well, but it's a mess. Can it be restored to its former glory? 98.221.133.96 (talk) 00:44, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Ahh yeah that's better. Dumb templates. Thanks! -Jrcla2 (talk)(contribs)

Please do not revert this entry. If User:AzureFury wants to write on the subject matter, he should write everything by himself. I disallow this User using any part of my text. If this is not good enough, please delete the entry from Wikipedia altogether, after which User:AzureFury can write whatever he deems appropriate on the subject matter. I warn you, that should any part of my text be used by User:AzureFury, I will sue Wikipedia for acting against my wish, that is that of the copyright holder of the original text. This user has no permission from me to use any part of my text. The details on the talk page of the above-mentioned entry clearly show that User:AzureFury is just an adventurer who actively seeks conflict with me; by his own admission, he has not seen the film and has no qualification for writing an encyclopaedic entry on this film. --BF 02:42, 25 August 2008 (UTC).

You may be right in principle, but not in the particular case at hand. As the discussions on the talk page of the entry at issue show, for one whole week User:AzureFury has been a rather passive contributor on this page (by his own admission, he knows nothing of the film, of the artists playing in it, etc. - there being no review of the film besides that on the English Wikipedia, he cannot even claim to have his information from an external source). When I rebutted his plainly racist attacks on me (just out of the blue, he conflated Iran with Usama Bin Laden and my arguments as suggestive of condoning terrorism and ramming planes into buildings - these are all there for all to see), he suddenly came to the idea of taking the entry at issue as hostage, thus using his manipulations of my original text as a means of bringing me to my knees. This is an utterly despicable act on the part of User:AzureFury. Given this extraordinary circumstance, I indicated that should User:AzureFury interfere with my text, I would sue Wikipedia for exposing my text against my wish. This is not because I had something against Wikipedia. No, the conflict is between me and User:AzureFury, but it appears that User:AzureFury is intent on abuse; admittedly, I have no other legal possibility for stopping User:AzureFury from abusing the circumstance but the instrument of suing Wikipedia for allowing User:AzureFury to blackmail me. --BF 04:10, 25 August 2008 (UTC).

The Grand Ole Opry's New Star

Regarding your comments in the afd -- There seems to be no way to verify the track listing. The link provided by Wasted Time R may be inaccurate, as it says the album was released in 2000, not 1950-something. Also, notability isn't inherited. It may be Jones's first album and on a notable label, but since there seems to be nothing to say about it (it might have had his first chart singles; I'm not sure since I can't verify the #*!%& track listing), but since it's been out of print so long, do you think it might at least be worth redirecting? fair lawn sports

HI Alamshon in response to your talk to me regarding my posting of street hockey dekhockey information on the Fair Lawn page - again the names I listed are fact - I was the originator of the league in the 1970's....the people are mentioning helped develop the league - which is the oldest of its kind in the state of New Jersey. I have read the wikipedia rules governing content - and I take issue with your deletion..... Obviously your much more knowledgably than I on wikipedia…. So maybe I am looking for you to assist me? Either way – since I am the source of the material – the originator – or I am looking for the New York Times article from the early 1970’s to help confirm…why are you so persistent in deleting the information? Please feel free to contact me at douglas.emond@gmail.com. —Preceding unsigned comment added by trust2deal (talkcontribs)

follow up - should i consider developing a new page on this topic? as for the source - the New York Times is in the middle of assisting me in obtaining the original article (plus picture) from 1972...FYI. as for the record - nothing was ever posted to my knowledge. I do have additinal questions - such as since i was the originator of the program - what if I get 2-3 people to confirm in writing? also - what do people in these situations when they are the original source and no written word confirms? I am also getting reference material form the CANAM assoication governing DEKHOCKEY...FYI. lastly - my personal comment to you is I find your reposne to be aggressive - clearly i am new to this so senistivity would help Trust2deal (talk) 15:03, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Why thank you ... my dad grew up in Flemington, so I'll have to send him a link to the article. I wish the picture could have been better ... it was the afternoon and the sun was not on the front of the building, hence that contrived angle. But it works.

I've always been surprised that the state hasn't pushed to get it (or the Union Hotel) listed on the National Register of Historic Places for their connection with the trial. I read on one trip to see my mother that NJ spends a lot less on historic preservation than NY or PA despite almost as rich a past. Daniel Case (talk) 20:23, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

As I say if you "watch" the dyk templates then you will see the admins at work (and their helpers). If the article is notable, why not add some sources, hmm? You've had five years at least, and the article is still a list-y, unsourced mess. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 04:24, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

I did technically create the article, largely by hiving off material that had been added to some other article, and I am perfectly willing to take responsibility for its present state. I will be happy to add sources, per your demands, at my earliest convenience. I will point out that your tone, as best exemplified by the arrogant and smarmy "why not add some sources, hmm?" is distinctly uncalled for, completely uncivil and entirely inappropriate. Leaving "What did I screw up now?" in your signature as a link to your talk page doesn't help matters. Adopting a more collegial attitude, both in your communication style and your signature, will be far more likely to help you achieve your goals. Alansohn (talk) 04:36, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

Straightening out the Chatham articles

Hi there -- I finally have taken the time to finish straightening out the three articles on Chatham, Chatham Township, and The Chathams. At one time you stated that you would help me make the changes needed to make them more understandable to our readers. Please look at them. I have been working on them off and on and think that now a change would make sense. What I propose is that the article, "Chatham Borough, New Jersey", be changed to merely "Chatham, New Jersey" and that the article now bearing that title be changed to read, "The Chathams". The article for Chatham Township is okay. I think you stated that you would discuss this with the group that concerns itself with New Jersey governments and municipalities... not sure of your exact words... Although I would prefer the simplicity of using "Chatham, New Jersey" as its title for the borough, I would have no objection to using "Chatham (borough), New Jersey" as the title if someone insisted, so long as inquiries for Chatham, New Jersey would be directed to the article as well. Let me know what I can do to facilitate this, I'd be glad to do the editing, I just do not want to charge into it without consensus about doing it. _ _ _ _83d40m (talk) 02:46, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

The overall problem is how to distinguish between Chatham Township, Chatham Borough and the agglomeration of "Chatham" that includes both the borough and the township, sharing many common historical characteristics and governmental / community functions. I agree that there is no ambiguity regarding Chatham Township. The problem is that "Chatham" could either mean the borough alone or the combination of the borough and the township. Given this ambiguity, I strongly prefer retaining the title of Chatham Borough, New Jersey. The borough's website is http://www.chathamborough.org/, which includes "borough" in its title, and the Living in Chatham page on the borough's website refers to itself as "Chatham Borough" six times, in addition to repeated references to the "Borough of Chatham". I would stick with Chatham, New Jersey to reference the borough / township pair, though I could also support The Chathams, in the same way that the article for The Oranges is used to refer to the set of four paired municipalities in Essex County or The Ridgefields for the pair of Bergen County places. Alansohn (talk) 17:18, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Well, please let me know whether you would support changing the title of the article on the shared school and library systems to address their subject. That is the one that I find most irrational. Using The Chathams for this article which discusses the shared systems by the two communities would, at least, be halfway accurate.

I see no reason why an article solely about the recently shared library and school system should be the anchor article for the community that dates back to 1710. That is our current weird organization of this information. I strongly believe that the article that discusses the community that dates back to 1710 should be the anchor for these articles and be led to by inquiries for "Chatham, New Jersey". After all, it is the oldest and most historically significant. All else is derived from it.

There are disambiguation statements at the beginning of the articles for Chatham and Chatham Township that easily lead readers to the other.

Both Chatham and Chatham Township articles discuss the shared school system and library systems that have recently been developed and have a link to the article on that topic.

Historical documents, post cards, maps, and such do not support the use of "Chatham Borough" as the name of the place that has been known as Chatham, New Jersey since the American revolution and before. An Internet address certainly can not qualify as a historical precedent for a legal name. The name of the government form being used currently is not the name of a place. I would suggest that if you feel that it is essential to bring the form of government into the title for a palce, that Chatham (borough), New Jersey would suffice. I must note, however, that its government is named "Borough of Chatham" as one can see clearly on the image we present of the building housing the government. I also would point out that on the front of the building of the (borough) fire station is the name, Chatham Fire Department, on the historic post card is the name Chatham, New Jersey, on the newspapers from the revolutionary times the publication location is Chatham, New Jersey. No map indicates, Chatham Borough.

I would like to see a parallel to Rockaway, New Jersey and Rockaway Township, New Jersey -- the same format should be followed throughout our articles on New Jersey communities.

Please let me know whether you understand the basis of my argument, so I do not belabor it. _ _ _ _ 83d40m (talk) 03:03, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Plainsboro Township

I saw your edit to Andrew Bynum. Admittedly, I know little about NJ, so this is probably more an education for me. Could "Plainsboro Township" be the official name and "Plainsboro" be the common name? I am only asking because most sources list Bynum as being from "Plainsboro", and Google News has significantly more hits for the term Plainsboro, New Jersey over Plainsboro Township, New Jersey. Thanks in advance.—Bagumba (talk) 19:15, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

I blame the United States Postal Service. There are about 150 townships in New Jersey (Plainsboro included), but per this source, the USPS uses the word "Township" in only four of them (Plainsboro not included), even in places where there are pairs of municipalities sharing the same name, one of them a township and the other not. People believe that they live in their ZIP code, not necessarily in the municipality that they pay taxes to. After all, they get their mail every day but may only deal directly with their local government a few times a year. On the official website, the township refers to itself as the Township of Plainsboro or Plainsboro Township, but it is no surprise at all that you would find more references on Google to "Plainsboro" than to "Plainsboro Township". Alansohn (talk) 20:52, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
While the official name should be listed in the lead, maybe the article should be named "Plainsboro, New Jersey" per WP:COMMONNAME? Another way to look at it, I don't know anything about the place, and I would use the article name to determine the common name I should use so locals wouldn't look at me funny.—Bagumba (talk) 21:03, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 January newsletter

Signups are now closed; we have our final 127 contestants for this year's competition. 64 contestants will make it to the next round at the end of February, but we're already seeing strong scoring compared to previous years. Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) currently leads, with 358 points. At this stage in 2012, the leader (Irish Citizen Army Grapple X (submissions)) had 342 points, while in 2011, the leader had 228 points. We also have a large number of scorers when compared with this stage in previous years. Florida 12george1 (submissions) was the first competitor to score this year, as he was last year, with a detailed good article review. Some other firsts:

Featured articles, portals and topics, as well as good topics, are yet to feature in the competition.

This year, the bonus points system has been reworked, with bonus points on offer for old articles prepared for did you know, and "multiplier" points reworked to become more linear. For details, please see Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. There have been some teething problems as the bot has worked its way around the new system, but issues should mostly be ironed out- please report any problems to the WikiCup talk page. Here are some participants worthy of note with regards to the bonus points:

  • United States Ed! (submissions) was the first to score bonus points, with Portland-class cruiser, a good article.
  • Australia Hawkeye7 (submissions) has the highest overall bonus points, as well as the highest scoring article, thanks to his work on Enrico Fermi, now a good article. The biography of such a significant figure to the history of science warrants nearly five times the normal score.
  • Chicago HueSatLum (submissions) claimed bonus points for René Vautier and Nicolas de Fer, articles that did not exist on the English Wikipedia at the start of the year; a first for the WikiCup. The articles were eligible for bonus points because of fact they were both covered on a number of other Wikipedias.

Also, a quick mention of British Empire The C of E (submissions), who may well have already written the oddest article of the WikiCup this year: did you know that the Fucking mayor objected to Fucking Hell on the grounds that there was no Fucking brewery? The gauntlet has been thrown down; can anyone beat it?

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Lou Brutus Improvements

Some notes...

We've further cleaned up the quotes and made a few other modifications to better streamline the article with an especial eye toward making the article neutral. Combed thru 76 pages of Google links on the subject and found nothing outside of the previously mentioned chat boards etc. to add. If there is anything left on the page that should be further trimmed to "neutralize" it, please feel free to make suggestions. While this article lists many accomplishments it also makes mention of several firings, channel cancellations and programming failures. We do plan on making expansions on the music area of Mr. Brutus' career. Certainly, the Dead Schembechlers received a ton of press of all kinds which, once that is reflected in the article, will bring it up standard. Thanks again for the help. MusicMediaMatters (talk) 12:59, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

A bit more cleaning and pruning. It seems much drier in tone but far more neutral. Still plan on adding further expansions on the music side of things including warts and all press. Merging fire department articles

I noticed in Category:Fire departments in New Jersey that you merged 2 of the articles. I suspect the same problem applies to most of the other fire departments.Curb Chain (talk) 00:00, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

Big city fire departments probably can merit notable articles, but there are lots of smaller places in New Jersey with departments that won't stand on their own. I've merged these articles when I see them, and that's usually the better choice than deletion as there is always a well-defined target article to merge the content and then use as a redirect. Alansohn (talk) 01:04, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
Big city fire departments will only merit articles if there is 2ndary mention of them. I've done a search for a few of the articles and I don't see any mention.Curb Chain (talk) 04:16, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

Re; Regional high schools

It does't make a difference. They are by classification public high schools. The fact that they have regional in their name since they serve mroe than one local community or municipality is just to identify it as such. It doesn't need to be int he infobox. Also there are no articles for regional schools so we shoudl identify them as their funding type, public and level of education: secondary or high school. Also I'm the one who initially made those regional edits in the first place. Banan14kab (talk) 02:39, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

Changing references for Leanna Brown in Chatham Borough Article

I have tried to change cited references for Leanna Brown since they had better, more recent, and more complete information than current cited Record article. My changes have been undone even after I indicated the reasons for these changes. I then provided a full explanation for these changes in the talk section. I have not received any response as to why these changes cannot be made in order to improve available information about Leanna Brown.

Please advise if you agree with my proposed changes. I would like to replace the cited Record article with 2 references that have better, more recent, and more complete information.

If you do not agree with the proposed changes, please explain why.Wondering55 (talk) 06:33, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

BEGINNING OF SECTION 1

In looking through your edits, there seems to be a rather strong focus on deleting references sourced from The Record. In some cases, the sources are different, in some cases they're more recent, but in far too many cases the replacement sources are less complete and less reliable than the original material. Wherever possible, I have tried to retain all of the relevant sources to the best of my ability and as reasonable, including the sources you have added, and I will review some of the other removals to see if the material can be reinserted into the article. Can you explain why you have been systematically removing sources from The Record and edit warring with those who have tried to reinsert those sources? Alansohn (talk) 14:45, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Alansohn, All of the replacement referenced sources are more complete, more up-to-date, and more accurate and they are also reliable.

Since you seem to disagree with this statement, please provide specific details that contradicts this statement in regards to the Chatham Borough article.

You seemed to be focused on an unsubstantiated charge of edit warring rather than looking at the bigger picture to see if my cited replacement references improve the Chatham Borough and other articles. One other minor benefit of my cited references is that they are accessible to anyone. The Record cited reference in the Chatham Borough article is accessible on a regular basis if you have a paid subscription to that source. When somebody replaces something with better, more up-to-date, more accurate, more complete information, their efforts should be welcomed and not reprimanded since it is not edit warring. Wondering55 (talk) 15:11, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

END OF SECTION 1

Alansohn, Thanks for your response to my original comments that I saw on my Talk page. I edited my Talk page with a follow-up response. However, when I came to your Talk page, I did not see your original comment to me or my follow-up response. I have cut and pasted your original comments and my follow-up response into your Talk pages as SECTION 1.

I apologize since I am a Wikipedia novice and am trying to work with anyone who has any concerns about my editing efforts. I hope that we can work together to improve Wikipedia articles and cited references.

Rather than continuing to go back and forth with responses, I would hope that you would accept that my changes are made in good faith. I believe I have responded with sufficient details and reasons that show my changes are made in good faith and they should be accepted in accordance with Wikipedia's policy about allowed changes. Thanks for your consideration. I look forward to your response about accepting my changes.Wondering55 (talk) 15:59, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

BEGINNING OF SECTION 2

I've gone through every one of your edits to date and every single edit to an article removed a source from The Record (Bergen County), specifically ones written by John Cichowski. Whether it was a highway-related article or one about a high school, or a legislative district or a politician, every edit removed a source by Cichowski in The Record and replaced it. Some of the sources are better or more recent, but many of the sources are from user-updated content or material from websites and publications with questionable reliability. If you feel that the sources from The Record are out-of-date or that the articles would benefit from other sources, I suggest adding to the existing references as in many cases the articles are worse off with the sources you've removed. It does seem rather strange to me that this removing sources by John Cichowski in The Record is what you'd be doing on a systematic basis, and I'm wondering why. You seem rather knowledgeable about Wikipedia for a brand new editor. Have you edited before using another ID or IP address, as it might help to gain a broader picture of your edit history. Any explanation would help understand what's going on here, which I think you might realize appears rather odd. Alansohn (talk) 17:08, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

END OF SECTION 2 ______________________

Alansohn, You continue to make unsubstantiated charges about me and my cited references without any supporting details, as I have requested. So far, you have not provided any supporting details to question the specifics of any information that I cited.

I would hope that we can work together without having to ask for a dispute resolution with you.

I am a brand new editor and have NEVER edited under another ID or IP address. I believe I have adequately addressed all of your concerns.

Most of my cited references are from previous sources that have been accepted without question in Wikipedia articles that were written before I even started using Wikipedia, from official sources, or other news articles, which had more accurate information, which I cross checked with other sources.

Let me remind you that Wikipedia's policy for long time users in responding to new editors is 1. Be polite, and welcoming to new users 2. Assume good faith 3. Avoid personal attacks

I'm not sure whether you are adhering to these policies in your responses to me.

I also find it rather odd you are spending so much time on doing a comprehensive investigation of all my posts to try and denigrate my efforts. You are the only person on Wikipedia that has carried on this repeated negative campaign against me in response to my posts.

I have explained myself to one other person, who had questions, since I am a relative novice and did not know that changing cited references with better, more accurate references and correcting minor details would require me to provide so much supporting details.

The Record is not a completely reliable source since it only reports what it may find out, which may or may not necessarily be the latest or most accurate information. I suggest you check out the Eye on the Record blog on the Internet that points out many mistakes and lack of reliability in The Record reporting.

The cited reference sources, which I provided in the Chatham borough article, have more up-to-date and more complete information than the original Record article. In fact, you have kept them in as cited references so you must believe they are satisfactory.

In my experience, the proper thing to do when preparing reports and finding a more complete reference that also has updated details that supersedes the details of the old cited reference is to remove the old reference and replace it with the new reference. Keeping in the old cited reference confuses people with information that has been superseded and wastes peoples time in trying to verify that old information, which is superseded by the new references.

In addition, if I had a choice of putting in a reference, which would require someone to pay money to read, vs. a reference that is free; publicly available; and superscedes the other reference, I would include the publicly available reference and NOT the other reference.

The proper thing to do with the Chatham Borough article is to keep my 2 new cited references, which are publicly accessible which you have done, and remove the old outdated reference, which is normally only available through a paid subscription.

I have provided sufficient reasons and details for this change. Let us agree to make the change and move on to better opportunities. Wondering55 (talk) 18:31, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

____________________ BEGINNING OF SECTION 3 By definition, newspaper's gather material from their sources, and like all newspapers, The Record makes mistakes. I subscribe to The Record and read it every day and I agree that there are errors, but I also see mistakes all too often in The New York Times and The Star-Ledger. I had never heard of Eye on the Record, and when I took a look, lo and behold, there was an extensive criticism in the current post of Road Warrior John Cichowski, noting how he "shamelessly plugs [a] limo service by name" in a recent piece and goes to describe him as "the supremely lazy Cichowski" before moving on to an extensive quotation from an email sent to the paper by a "concerned reader" criticizing Cichowski's reporting. I have no connection to The Record, other than as a subscriber, and I have no bias for or against it. Please understand how strange it seems that you appear to have some sort of issue with The Record in general and Road Warrior John Cichowski in particular, as evidenced by the fact that you have made no update to an article that did not involve removing a source that had appeared in The Record and that had been written by John Cichowski, whether in his role as the paper's Road Warrior or in general reporting. I agree that some of your edits are productive, but this lack of neutrality regarding the paper and its reporter is a matter of concern. Your contributions are more than welcome, but excessive negative focus on one newspaper and one report appears both unjustified and inappropriate. Alansohn (talk) 18:58, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

END OF SECTION 3 _______________________

As Ronald Reagan used to say, "There you go again."

You continue to go and question my intentions and my neutrality without any substantiation.

You continue to go and ignore my requests for specific details that contradict anything that I have stated.

You continue to go and ignore good editing practice, which is not to keep adding everything that is put into an article when streamlining it with better and more accurate info is the correct practice.

If multiple articles from a source have multiple mistakes or outdated info, removing them and replacing them with better sources is NOT a lack of neutrality, but an adherence to common sense and ethics and reputable investigation.

I also subscribe to The Record so that is the source that I start with when checking information. I then compare it to other official sources and news reports to see if the information is accurate or inaccurate. That does not demonstrate any lack of neutrality.

I do not have time or interest to investigate every single item in a Wikipedia article and all of the multiple sources.

In my Wikipedia reviews and edits of articles, I have also checked out other Record articles, which correctly referenced the cited information, so I have not removed them.

In the future, I would not remove articles without a substantiated reason that I would put in the Edit Summary.

You seemed to be oddly focused on preventing me from making needed changes based on unsubstantiated reasons.

I am concerned that you will pass along your biased concerns about me to others.

Unless you rescind your unsubstantiated published concerns about me, I will ask for a dispute resolution with you. This is not what I expected when I started making changes in Wikipedia in good faith.

Why would you continues to cite Record articles in Wikipedia that have mistakes or outdated info when there are better, more accurate references? That is a question that I will raise if this matter goes to dispute resolution with you.

Let us agree to make the change to remove the cited Record article, which will be superseded by the 2 articles that you have already agreed to, and move on to better opportunities.

I would appreciate if you would also agree that based on my responses, I have made all of my changes based on good faith, common sense, and proper investigations, and have not demonstrated any bias or lack of neutrality. Thanks for your considerationWondering55 (talk) 19:59, 1 March 2013 (UTC) ________________________

BEGINNING OF SECTION 4

Let's use the article for Chatham Borough, New Jersey as an example, where the issue is a source for Leanna Brown. All that's necessary is to show that she lives / lived in Chatham Borough. The source that had been in the article -- "MORRIS VOTERS REELECT 3 GOP LEGISLATORS", written by John Cichowski in The Record (Bergen County) -- states that "Brown of Chatham Borough led Democrat Drew Britcher of Parsippany-Troy Hills, 27,381 to 7,563 to win her third term.", which would seem to address the issue, over and done with. The first source you added -- "Trailblazer Leanna Brown Honored by Chatham GOP", by Cara Townsend in TheAlternativePress.com -- states that "Longtime Chatham resident Leanna Brown had many firsts in politics. She was the first woman to serve on the Borough Council, the first woman to win a seat in the New Jersey Assembly, and the first woman elected to the State Senate." which covers the point but no better than the source from The Record. The other source -- “Our Campaigns – Senate 26th Legislative District – History” at OurCampaigns.com -- is quoted as saying that "Republican Leanna Brown of Chatham Borough defeated Democrat Drew Britcher by 34,063 to 9,514 votes to win her third Senate term." The problems are that OurCampaigns.com is user updated and doesn't include the sentence shown here anywhere on that page or on the entire website. Nor does the OurCampaigns page for Leanna Brown pin her down to Chatham Borough, as it provides an address in the Chatham ZIP code. I'm unsure what was wrong with the source for Leanna Brown in Chatham Borough, New Jersey from The Record and maybe if you could explain why it should be removed there we might be able to achieve some sort of understanding. I would also appreciate any explanation of why every reference sourced by an article written by John Cichowski should be removed? Alansohn (talk) 20:30, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

END OF SECTION 4 ___________________________

Let's answer you point-by-point on the required relevant citation source(s) for Leanna Brown in the Chatham Borough article.

It is not correct that "All that's necessary is to show that she lives / lived in Chatham Borough." in the cited reference. If that were the case, you could simply put in a Whitepages.com, Zabasearch.com, or other irrelevant reference for many of the cited people.

It is primarily necessary to show HOW any listed person was/is actually a "NOTABLE" person AND also lives or lived in Chatham Borough.

In reviewing the cited Record article, the issue was NOT "over and done with" since every cited reference that I originally accessed in this article had an extensive profile over a notable portion of that person's lifetime, except for The Record cited reference for Leanna Brown that mentioned she won a third term as NJ state senator in 1991. I found the AlternativePress.com article that had an extensive lifetime profile of Leanna Brown of Chatham Borough that also included her 3 terms as senator, plus extensive info about significant accomplishments in her life before & after.

I disagree with your contention about any supposed equality between the 2 cited articles since the presented facts in The AlternativePress article clearly covers BOTH points (1. What are their notable accomplishments? 2. Do they live in Chatham Borough?) much better than the source from The Record.

Based on comparing the clearly more extensive lifetime information about Leanna Brown in the AlternativePress.com article, which is fully publicly accessible, vs. the much more limited information in the cited Record article, which only has a shortened version of the article, it was clear that the AlternativePress.com article was better as a cited reference for Leanna Brown. So I replaced The Record article with the Alternativepress.com article and with Our Campaign website with a brief explanation for why I used these sources, which have more complete and more up-to-date info than The Record article.

There is nothing wrong with “Our Campaigns – Senate 26th Legislative District – History” at OurCampaigns.com, as noted below.

1. You had a problem that the site was quoted as saying that "Republican Leanna Brown of Chatham Borough defeated Democrat Drew Britcher by 34,063 to 9,514 votes to win her third Senate term." and indicated the problems are that OurCampaigns.com is user updated and doesn't include the sentence shown here anywhere on that page or on the entire website.

The intent of my personally inserted quote for the cited reference was to summarize the actual posted facts on the Our Campaigns site, which showed 1) Leanna Brown was a Republican. 2) She defeated Democrat Drew Britcher by 34,063 to 9,514 votes. 3)It was her 3rd term as State senator. 4) She lived in Chatham Borough based on her listed Chatham street address.

The OurCampaigns page for Leanna Brown CLEARLY pinned her down to Chatham Borough, as it provides her street address, which is clearly in Chatham Borough.

Any problems with the Our Campaigns citation can be over how I presented the Our Campaigns site information in the cited reference rather than the actual relevant facts on that site, which updated what was presented in the cited Record article. I would be more than happy for you to change the way the Our Campaigns site citation is presented.

As I have explained, the reasons should be clear by now that the AlternativePress.com cited reference should replace The Record cited reference because it provided an extensively more complete profile of her notable accomplishments similar to the way other cited references, which I originally checked, did for some of the other notable people that I checked, while also indicating more details on how she lived in Chatham Borough.

I also believe the Our Campaigns site provides additional and more complete information, which is publicly accessible, than the shortened version of the Record article about each of the 3 senate elections that Leanna Brown won and exactly where she lived in Chatham Borough. This cited reference should supersede The Record article. If you want to edit how the cited reference is presented, please feel free to do so.

I want to avoid the practice of simply adding more and more info to an article without consideration to deleting outdated, incomplete info that is superseded & became superfluous.

Any other cited articles by John Cichowski that I removed in other Wikipedia articles were replaced for the very same basic valid reasons. Replacement citations had better, more complete, more accurate, more relevant, or more up-to-date info that superseded the cited article by John Cichowski.

Let us agree to make the change to remove the cited outdated Record article, which will be superseded by the 2 articles that you have already agreed to, and move on to better opportunities.

I hope that you will respect my intentions, my integrity, and my contributions. So far, everyone else has.

I would appreciate if you would also agree that based on my responses, I have made all of my changes based on good faith, common sense, and proper investigations, and have not demonstrated any bias or lack of neutrality. Thanks for your consideration.Wondering55 (talk) 02:05, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 February newsletter

Round 1 is now over. The top 64 scorers have progressed to round 2, where they have been randomly split into eight pools of eight. At the end of April, the top two from each pool, as well as the 16 highest scorers from those remaining, will progress to round 3. Commiserations to those eliminated; if you're interested in still being involved in the WikiCup, able and willing reviewers will always be needed, and if you're interested in getting involved with other collaborative projects, take a look at the WikiWomen's Month discussed below.

Round 1 saw 21 competitors with over 100 points, which is fantastic; that suggests that this year's competition is going to be highly competative. Our lower scores indicate this, too: A score of 19 was required to reach round 2, which was significantly higher than the 11 points required in 2012 and 8 points required in 2011. The score needed to reach round 3 will be higher, and may depend on pool groupings. In 2011, 41 points secured a round 3 place, while in 2012, 65 was needed. Our top three scorers in round 1 were:

  1. Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), primarily for an array of warship GAs.
  2. London Miyagawa (submissions), primarily for an array of did you knows and good articles, some of which were awarded bonus points.
  3. New South Wales Casliber (submissions), due in no small part to Canis Minor, a featured article awarded a total of 340 points. A joint submission with Alaska Keilana (submissions), this is the highest scoring single article yet submitted in this year's competition.

Other contributors of note include:

Featured topics have still played no part in this year's competition, but once again, a curious contribution has been offered by British Empire The C of E (submissions): did you know that there is a Shit Brook in Shropshire? With April Fools' Day during the next round, there will probably be a good chance of more unusual articles...

March sees the WikiWomen's History Month, a series of collaborative efforts to aid the women's history WikiProject to coincide with Women's History Month and International Women's Day. A number of WikiCup participants have already started to take part. The project has a to-do list of articles needing work on the topic of women's history. Those interested in helping out with the project can find articles in need of attention there, or, alternatively, add articles to the list. Those interested in collaborating on articles on women's history are also welcome to use the WikiCup talk page to find others willing to lend a helping hand. Another collaboration currently running is an an effort from WikiCup participants to coordinate a number of Easter-themed did you know articles. Contributions are welcome!

A few final administrative issues. From now on, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Ilegitimate edit warring

You have gone in and reversed multiple updates by me and reinserted cited references for articles by John Cichowski, even though all of those articles have absolutely nothing to do with the cited statements or in one case have multiple factual errors about Pulaski Skyway.

I previously notified you that all of these sources by Cichowski were illegitimate references and yet you still went ahead and reversed all of my previous legitimate corrections.

If you reverse any further of my updates prior to communicating to me about any issues that you have or reinstate any references to articles by John Cichowski in any Wikipedia article that I have previously edited, I will cite you for EDIT WARRING in order to STOP your harassment and illegitimate efforts.Wondering55 (talk) 18:36, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

Seems to me like Alansohn is right about the validity of the reference in Pulaski Skyway.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 23:25, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Alansohn's cited Record article is filled with information, which contradicts many facts in the Wikipedia article and would confuse readers and contaminate the validity of those facts. The cited Record article also summarizes the exact same info that is now cited for reference from an official NJ DOT press release. Alanson's cited Record article should NOT be used as a reputable citation.Wondering55 (talk) 04:00, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Alansohn, It would be more helpful if you spent more time in correcting the mistaken link, which makes no reference to David Shipler, and all of the outdated links, which can NO longer be found on the Internet or are no longer available on a referenced website, for "Notable People" for the Chatham Borough article rather than continuing to spend more time undoing my legitimate revisions, even after I warned you and asked you to communicate with me prior to any further undoing of my work.Wondering55 (talk) 04:00, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi take a look at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Richard_Arthur_Norton_(1958-_)#Final_decision. Seems like the vast majority of arbcomm don't share your views. LibStar (talk) 13:17, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

No I hadn't seen it, but you're sure one f'ed up dude to be celebrating a non-event; But don't worry, you'll have your day in the sun too. What relevance does this have to any of my views? Alansohn (talk) 15:27, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
you are one of the very very few who thinks his history of editing and no compliance is not a problem and strongly opposed blocking (and the arb com decidion says he will be blocked for further infringements) despite numerous WP established editors, admin, arb com members thinking otherwise. Maybe it's time to see the truth rather than defend on friendship? LibStar (talk) 16:13, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
He wasn't blocked, either at ANI or by Arbcom. The administrators at ANI all agreed with me -- despite the bloviating and threats -- that there was no legitimate justification for a block and not one of them were willing to violate policy to impose a punitive block; I'd say that my argument carried the day there, and the Arbcom judgment basically restates existing policy, again with no block. You're already 100 times more of a WP:DICK of any other typical WP:DICKy editor I've seen, and the ratio is rapidly rising well above those ratios as we speak, yet I'd defend you the same way under the circumstances. You'll thank me when you're in the same boat. Alansohn (talk) 16:27, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

No because it was moved to arbcomm as a serious matter deserving expert attention . If you read the decision, further infringements will be blocked effectively as a punishment for not adhering to rules. I thank arb comm not your obvious bias towards Richard. LibStar (talk) 16:35, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

you need to seriously acknowledge that Richard was a problematic editor who deliberately liked to flaunt the rules. Not pretend he is your brother. LibStar (talk) 16:39, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
It's disturbing and pathetic that you would take so much glee from what amounts to a slap on the wrist, one that was far, far less than the punitive block demanded -- and refused -- at ANI. Even your presence here -- remember, I am not a party nor am I mentioned in this Arbcom decision -- is indicative of your efforts to provoke confrontations. You need to take a long hard look in the mirror and acknowledge that you are the problematic editor. Alansohn (talk) 18:38, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
Yes, wondering why LibStar is here continuing a battle that looks to have been decided elsewhere. And my advice to both of you is to end this thread here for seven and a half weeks, and then resume if there is really more to be said. But isn't this stuff over. Let it be.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 20:26, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

If I am a problematic editor then raise an ANI against me. Going to arb comm is the highest level of looking at long standing problems in WP. I am only here to notify alansohn as someone previously involved with Richard. LibStar (talk) 03:22, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

You're just here to be a WP:DICK. If you have a problem with me, go to ANI. Otherwise, get lost and harass someone else. Alansohn (talk) 03:26, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
I've never said you're a problematic editor but now you think I am one without going to ANI.. In any case arb comm agrees that Richard has been problematic and has reinforced topic bans. Happy editing. LibStar (talk) 04:25, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
There's a video of this thread in case you'd like to watch yourselves battling. I know Alansohn is an excellent contributor who has done marvels for New Jersey articles; I assume in good faith that LibStar is too. My suggestion for both of you is to delete this thread and return to what's best in Wikipedia.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 11:29, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Given my adherence to the idea of improving Wikipedia by the "combat of fully engaged intellects" and our past moments of mutual antagonism (trust me, i enjoy it and don't take it too personally...it's like a cattle prod to action), if you have the time over the next few days I'd like you to give a close, scrutinizing eye to Sussex County, New Jersey. I don't mean one of deletionism, but tag the shit out of it so I know objectively what should be cited/cleaned-up/repaired/clarified/etc. that I've missed, policy concerns, review its flaws, it's strengths, ideas for improvement, photos ideas to add, etc. I aim to make it comprehensive enough for an FAC. I expect to add a little more meat and organization to the recreation section (which I admit I've neglected), and add a 3-4 paragraph history summary (since I amputated the huge never-stops-growing 30Kb history section). The geology/geography section and economics/social stats section are rather large, but I can't find what to sever and I don't know exactly whether the geo section should be spun off. As the article is approaching 90Kb, I wonder what else can be shortened, spun off, etc. Thanks in advance.--ColonelHenry (talk) 18:10, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

I just made a pass through all 21 county articles to add 2012 census estimates. Sussex County has a lot of material that should be more than adequate to serve as the clay for a potential FA. I agree that sourcing and restructuring are more the focus, rather than any desperate need to add material. There are many county-level articles with FA status and this should serve as a model for the state's 20 other counties, all of which need expansion and improvement. I will go through the Sussex County article based on my previous FAC efforts and wherever possible add sources on my own and tag for citations as a last resort. I appreciate your efforts at expanding the scope and rigor of so many New Jersey articles, as best exemplified by your work on those related to Sussex County, which has too often been overlooked and under-improved by other editors. Alansohn (talk) 18:22, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for your compliments and for taking the time to assist. I was surprised, according to the US Counties Project there aren't as many FA county articles as either of us might have thought...they note only two: San Francisco Co. and Warren County, Indiana.--ColonelHenry (talk) 21:31, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Took several photos in Newton, Stillwater, Hampton, Fredon, Hardwick, and Green today.--ColonelHenry (talk) 02:28, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Constructive?

How was that not constructive, there are things written on that page that are simply not true and I felt balance needed to be redressed — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.66.70.254 (talk) 17:14, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

  • After reviewing this edit, I am confident that "not constructive" is an understatement. Alansohn (talk) 17:21, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Own it much? Toddst1 (talk) 20:23, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

No. I'm an editor who improves articles. What are you? Get off your ass and start editing. Figure out what the article needs, do the research and add the material. Adding "recentism" tags is the lazy approach from those who demand that other people do the work for them. Alansohn (talk) 20:27, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
Geez have a bad day or what? "Get off my ass"? Really? Time for you to do something else, dude. Adjust your bad attitude! Toddst1 (talk) 20:33, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
I've added multiple sources to address your concerns and removed other tags that were applied in sloppy and lazy fashion. You have carte blanche to improve the article, adding whatever material you deem necessary to address concerns that are yours alone. If you ever want to be an admin, you're going to have to learn how to edit and improve articles; You're never going to get there at this rate with this kind of careless tag tossing. Alansohn (talk) 20:39, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
Oh, you're right. Could you teach me how to be an admin? I might want to be one when I grow up. Toddst1 (talk) 20:40, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
It seems that the ideal path is to contribute as a little as possible towards building an encyclopedia. Act like a complete and total a-hole, complain about the attitude of others and apply tags to articles without explanation. Studying your edit history it looks like your well on your way! Best of luck, and make sure to do as little positive work as possible. Maybe think about bitching and moaning on article talk page, but try not to strain yourself by actually doing anything constructive to improve any articles in this encyclopedia. Alansohn (talk) 20:51, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
So I have some questions:
  • We shouldn't tag articles that have problems unless we fix them? Why would we need the tags then?
  • When is it ok to edit war to remove templates?
  • Isn't calling someone an "a-hole" considered a personal attack? I think I've seen folks blocked for less than that. Are you exempt from that since you have one of those fancy userboxes above?
Toddst1 (talk) 21:13, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
1) Improve first, and tag only as a last resort. 1) The only person edit warring is you and only you. I had no issues with the content you removed, I've added sources where justified and removed other tags that add no value. Note that it took several iterations of edit warring on your part before you started explaining their need on the article's talk page as required by policy. 3) I used the same template you used when you started your provocations. I've seen admins de-sysopped for less, and you don't even have one of those fancy userboxes, not that I have any idea about what you're talking about. 4) If you have something to add to the encyclopedia, do it. It seems you're only here to show who's boss and I'm rather underwhelmed. Notice that while I have been editing and improving other articles you have been only harassing me here on my talk page. I think it's well past time that you moved on and did whatever it is you people do somewhere else. Alansohn (talk) 21:24, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
Hey both of you, cut it out; be nice; be respectful; please be polite. Otherwise I'll have to whip out my handyman jokes which will have both your eyeballs rolling out of their sockets.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 21:30, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

TWS, thanks for cutting in. I'm done here and the last thing I need is a handyman joke. Alansohn (talk) 21:37, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

HCRHS

Hello,

I corrected my revisions, I hope that they're at standards now. I am an employee, social studies department and information systems department and some of the material I took from the district website are things that I actually wrote. I can authoritatively contribute content to that page as a member of the faculty, and will continue to do so. Keithdennison (talk) 11:51, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Okay please be careful about original research -- as a member of the faculty and employee, you may know things are true, and add them, but what Wikipedia ideally likes is secondary research, that is, what a newspaper reporter says, or some other source once removed. Alansohn is knowledgeable about this kind of stuff. As a teacher there, you're a primary source; the school newspaper (if online) could possibly be used for sources, as well as the school website (but please be careful here too). How come there are no photos? If you take some with your camera, I can help you upload them and put them on the page.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 13:28, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 March newsletter

We are halfway through round two. Pool A sees the strongest competition, with five out of eight of its competitors scoring over 100, and Pool H is lagging, with half of its competitors yet to score. WikiCup veterans lead overall; Pool A's Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) (2010's winner) leads overall, with poolmate London Miyagawa (submissions) (a finalist in 2011 and 2012) not far behind. Pool F's New South Wales Casliber (submissions) (a finalist in 2010, 2011 and 2012) is in third. The top two scorers in each pool, as well as the next highest 16 scorers overall, will progress to round three at the end of April.

Today has seen a number of Easter-themed did you knows from WikiCup participants, and March has seen collaboration from contestants with WikiWomen's History Month. It's great to see the WikiCup being used as a locus of collaboration; if you know of any collaborative efforts going on, or want to start anything up, please feel free to use the WikiCup talk page to help find interested editors. As well as fostering collaboration, we're also seeing the Cup encouraging the improvement of high-importance articles through the bonus point system. Highlights from the last month include GAs on physicist Niels Bohr (Australia Hawkeye7 (submissions)), on the European hare (Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions)), on the constellation Circinus (Alaska Keilana (submissions) and New South Wales Casliber (submissions)) and on the Third Epistle of John (Indiana Cerebellum (submissions)). All of these subjects were covered on at least 50 Wikipedias at the beginning of the year and, subsequently, each contribution was awarded at least three times as many points as normal.

Wikipedians who enjoy friendly competition may be interested in participating in April's wikification drive. While wikifying an article is typically not considered "significant work" such that it can be claimed for WikiCup points, such gnomish work is often invaluable in keeping articles in shape, and is typically very helpful for new writers who may not be familiar with formatting norms.

A quick reminder: now, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Could you take a look at my FACs

My friend, User:DavidinNJ and I nominated Alcohol laws of New Jersey for Featured Article Status back in February. The nomination has been slow. As I esteem your opinions and work in the past, would it be possible for you to take a look at the article and perhaps consider offering support to its FA candidacy, located here: Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Alcohol laws of New Jersey/archive1? I appreciate your time and attention to this cause.--ColonelHenry (talk) 16:14, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for April 13

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Freehold Borough, New Jersey, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page National Research Council (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Inadequate lead tag for Salem, New Jersey

With all due respect, but I fail to see how placing a tag on an article - especially when it has been duly done, such as in this case - makes an article "worse." Denying a problem doesn't make it go away; therefore tagging article is definitely not a last resort. It's a legitimate increment towards improvement.
Additionaly and sadly, I lack both the time and (in this case) the expertise to start editing any faulty article I come across on Wikipedia. What I could see, though, was that there is a line about population censi just bluntly put in the introduction without any kind of context. That's improper and inadequate, no other way to put it.
Next time, please address the indicated problem on the tag instead of going after the tag itself and the placer of it. I provided additional comments in the edit summary, so someone who knows something about Salem could work with that. —♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 21:12, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
The work you claim to have done is admirable, but you must understand that removing a tag with a comment like "you should have fixed it, instead of placing a tag" on it is flawed reasoning. By that standard, the problem remains and the intention of the tag (finding a person who is capable of fixing it) is lost to darkness. Tags should be removed when the problem is solved, not when you dislike somebody's attitude.
Furthermore, I do wholeheartedly agree editing an encyclopedia is fun, but I try to stick to subjects I know a thing or two about. Salem is not one of them, I just so happened to come across it as I was checking a fellow Wikipedian's edits and noticed this problem.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 21:33, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

FYI

Just to let you know that Wondering55 is finally using actual article talkpages; maybe you can pick up on the discussion here after all (he basically posted the same stuff onto every talkpage he used so keeping responses in one place might be an idea). Choyoołʼįįhí:Seb az86556 > haneʼ 00:10, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the update. I'm trying to avoid needlessly creating any conflicts, but there is potential for legitimate editing here. Alansohn (talk) 00:40, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

I have opened up 3 Talk pages for Talk:Route 55 in New Jersey, Talk:International High School (New Jersey), and Talk:Reversible lane. While each mentions reinsertion of a different cited Record article, there are different reasons that I give why each Record article should be deleted and referenced by another existing source within the article.

There are also other different revisions that I made in each article, which have absolutely nothing to do with the cited Record articles, that you and I never addressed. I have provided justification for all of these other revisions.

I would appreciate if you would respond separately to each of these 3 Talk pages. I hope that we can work together to address these matters.

I noticed that Choyoołʼįįhí:Seb az86556 User_talk:Seb_az86556 haneʼ was the one that went in and reverted changes that I made in over 15 articles that I made contributions to. Please advise if you requested that he should proceed to make these changes or if he simply decided on his own to make these changes.

Unfortunately, by making these revisions, it has ended up throwing out constructive revisions, which have absolutely nothing to do with the cited Record articles that you and I addressed. It unnecessarily wasted a lot of my effort on constructive changes.

I hope that once you see the reasons that I presented for deleting cited Record articles, which I found made absolutely NO mention of any details in regards to a referenced statement or that had incorrect information in regards to a referenced statement, that we can come to a mutual agreement for replacing them with better cited sources.

I look forward to your responses on each of the 3 Talk pages. Thanks for your consideration.Wondering55 (talk) 05:27, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

I will review all of the changes when I have the opportunity. Alansohn (talk) 05:32, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
I am waiting for you to respond to 4 Talk pages for Talk:New Jersey Route 55, Talk:International High School (New Jersey), Talk:Reversible lane, and Talk:Spanish Transportation for you to address why irrelevant or incorrect Record articles should be cited rather than alternate existing, relevant/correct, cited sources within each designated article or in other cited Wikipedia articles. There are different reasons that I give why each Record article should be deleted and referenced by another existing source. Please also explain on those Talk pages why the value added information that I also provided was deleted. If you now agree with my reasons, which are straight forward and based on the facts, for making the original changes, please confirm that on those Talk pages. No one else has objected to the changes that I want to make. Thanks for your assistance.Wondering55 (talk) 21:37, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
I was trying to give the articles an opportunity to ripen a bit and I will try to get back to each of these talk pages to address your explanations. Sorry for the delay. Alansohn (talk) 21:42, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Please confirm your concerns for preventing any of the proposed constructive changes or agreement with allowing the proposed changes on those 4 Talk pages. It is getting time to move on to accept the proposed changes, unless you have some thoughts otherwise. It is getting close to a month now that these issues are still open. Thanks for your consideration.Wondering55 (talk) 15:04, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Please confirm if you have any concerns for preventing any of the proposed constructive changes or your agreement with allowing the proposed changes on those 4 Talk pages. It would be helpful to move on these proposed changes, unless you have some thoughts otherwise. Thanks for your consideration. I look forward to your response.Wondering55 (talk) 03:47, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
Please let me know when you will address these issues. I would very much like to work with you. However, you have not been responding to any of my recent requests, which is concerning. You should have had sufficient time by now to address these issues. I believe my proposed changes are constructive and reflect a neutral point of view. Thanks for your consideration.Wondering55 (talk) 18:12, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
While I still have many concerns about the focus of editing changes and the manner in which many of these articles have been edited, the overall direction appears to be improving. I will continue to monitor these articles and I plan to participate more actively in editing and discussion of these articles in the future. Alansohn (talk) 18:22, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
Why can't you address this week the very specific corrections and updates, which are constructive and neutral, based on the clear reasons, which I thought would be helpful for you, that I outlined in the 4 Talk pages that I opened up since you were the one that originally reverted them? Indicate if you will allow the changes or identify any specific concerns for specific changes, if any. No one else has raised any concerns.Wondering55 (talk) 04:04, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

I would like to reach a consensus with you on the proposed changes without further delays in order to avoid any future questions regarding these changes.

Each of the changes involved replacing a cited source from The Record newspaper that either did NOT have any relevant details or had details in contradiction to what was referenced in the Wikipedia article. I replaced those cited sources with already existing reliable sources that confirmed the referenced info in the articles.

I also highlighted any additional constructive changes to an article that I made based on verifiable sources.

No one else has indicated any objections to these changes.

You should be able to consider the justification for these edits in a short period of time since these changes and my explanations on the 4 Talk pages are simple and straight forward and sufficient time has passed since I first raised these issues with you.

I have made good faith efforts to try and work with you.

Please advise when you will confirm this week in the 4 Talk pages if you will allow the changes or identify any specific concerns, if any. I would appreciate the courtesy of a response.

Let's move forward on this so we can bring this to a quick conclusion.Wondering55 (talk) 21:33, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your work on Steven Blane. I agree with you about the redirect; it's just that when I searched Wikipedia for other people by that name Steven Blane, I found a past president of some university, and just anticipated that that page might be posted some day. Regarding the DYK nomination, I'm not sure how to work in the cyber-synagogue; I thought that what I wrote was short and to the point. Perhaps you'd like to add a suggestion to the DYK page? Thanks again, Yoninah (talk) 08:14, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

County government

Greetings,

I responded to your most recent questions on my talk page, but I wanted to bring some additional discussion over here to you. I have had my fill of Orlady, and would prefer to carry on a discussion without him or her.

I have given your concerns some additional thought, and I have even consulted my handy copy of a county charter I happen to have. It is not a simple matter. There has already been a discussion at WikiProject United States about whether or not county government is an arm of the state government or not. It is, in fact, an arm of the state government, but the Wikipedia consensus is that it's local government. So as I constructed these categories, I did so with the consensus in mind.

So I think your concern may be with this idea that a government can't be an agency of itself. How can a county board of supervisors be an agency of county government? Right? Well, upon further investigation the way it works in reality is that a county governing board is a state agency and the various agencies like the sheriff, the clerk, the library, etcetera, are county agencies. So I would certainly be open to placing the governing board under state agencies, and the other under county agencies. This is the type of thing I had in mind originally, but there was objection to it that would not be put aside. So any help would be appreciated. Greg Bard (talk) 06:31, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

I would join in on the conversation at Gregbard's talk page, except that he has banned me from his talk page, basically because I disagree with him. (Holding content discussions in user space and barring certain people from posting in your user space is one strategy for getting your way at Wikipedia, at least temporarily -- yes, Gregbard inspirted my very first Wikipedia essay.) As for his evidence that counties are actually state agencies, I may be able to save you some time looking into his evidence, as I've looked into several of his URLs and documented my findings at User:Orlady/County by state. It actually has been almost fun to investigate his evidence, as I found that most of his interpretations were profoundly wrong. --Orlady (talk) 19:51, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

There was a recent request at the Third Opinion project involving you. Though that request has been (so far) removed, the reason for removal is lack of talk page discussion, which it appears that you said you would provide in the User talk:Alansohn#FYI section, above. Just letting you know. Regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 17:01, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

Wilcox County Segregated Prom

You deleted a statement of fact - that Wilcox County still has a segregated prom for white students only. It is not "constructive" of you to delete a fact that, while inconvenient, is 100% true. http://www.policymic.com/articles/33623/wilcox-county-high-school-segregated-prom-proves-racism-will-never-fully-die — Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.105.244.2 (talk) 19:28, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

The statement as worded that "Wilcox County is proud of its racist history" is inconsistent with the sourced material found at the Wilcox County High School article. Opinion of this nature will be removed. Alansohn (talk) 21:29, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Link spam issue

Alan, I am responding to your reversion of the article about Dr. James Crisfield, the Superintendent of Millburn Short Hills School System. I don't know your background, or your interest in Short Hills, but if you have read the interview, you will find it is among the very best interviews conducted of Dr. Crisfield. I am not aware of any other interview with this important town official. In the article, he outlines his thoughts on local schools - perhaps one of the most important considerations to those interested in the town. If the purpose of Wikipedia is to provide helpful information, this is a very helpful article. Frankly just because an article isn't published by the NY Times, doesn't mean it is not valuable. And, by the way, the NY Times, the Item and other traditional media sources are not shy about including commercial ads. I would suggest you read the article, understand its importance to the community, before you summarily dismiss it. Caadogan (talk) 14:40, 1 May 2013 (UTC)Caadogan (John Navin)

  • See my reply on user's talk page. Alansohn (talk) 14:46, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Alan, I am a journalist, and the piece reflects my interview with the head of our town's school system. There is nothing in the article which is commercial. Not one line. It is all about the school system and Dr. Crisfield. If this is Wiki's policy, it will result in poor information. Many of the other Millburn Short HIlls Wiki sites, for example, state that the school superintendent is the prior individual. He has not held the position for three years. And in fact, this Wiki page also reflected the bad info, before I edited the page. Wiki should be encouraging local individuals to refresh information - especially on a topic key to all residents such as the school system - rather than chastising them for updating this open source with good, accurate information.Caadogan (talk) 15:16, 1 May 2013 (UTC)caadogan (john Navin)

I was wondering if you could take a few pictures--from five to ten--of the main buildings and attractions, for example the city hall, the main churches, main high schools, main houses in different neighborhoods, etc...Is that possible? WikiCup 2013 April newsletter

We are a week into Round 3, but it is off to a flying start, with Republic of Rose Island Sven Manguard (submissions) claiming for the high-importance Portal:Sports and Portal:Geography (which are the first portals ever awarded bonus points in the WikiCup) and Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) claiming for a did you know of sea, the highest scoring individual did you know article ever submitted for the WikiCup. Round 2 saw very impressive scores at close; first place New South Wales Casliber (submissions) and second place Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) both scored over 1000 points; a feat not seen in Round 2 since 2010. This, in part, has been made possible by the change in the bonus points rules, but is also testament to the quality of the competition this year. Pool C and Pool G were most competitive, with three quarters of participants making it to Round 3, while Pool D was the least, with only the top two scorers making it through. The lowest qualifying score was 123, significantly higher than last year's 65, 2011's 41 or even 2010's 100.

The next issue of The Signpost is due to include a brief update on the current WikiCup, comparing it to previous years' competitions. This may be of interest to current WikiCup followers, and may help bring some more new faces into the community. We would also like to note that this round includes an extra competitor to the 32 advertised, who has been added to a random pool. This extra inclusion seems to have been the fairest way to deal with a small mistake made before the beginning of this round, but should not affect the competition in a large way. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please feel free to contact one of the judges.

A rules clarification: content promoted between rounds can be claimed in the round after the break, but not the round before. The case in point is content promoted on 29/30 April, which may be claimed in this round. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. You know Alan, those course chart flowcharts you removed took me a long time to do -- hours -- and you wiped it out in a mouseclick. I've supported your decisions in the past but please consider how other contributors, such as moi, might respond to your deletions.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 23:49, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

If you're convinced that they are encyclopedic, then feel free to revert as appropriate. Alansohn (talk) 00:49, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
For me, it was fun learning to use the "clade" tool. I am not certain how encyclopedic the flowcharts were, but they did impart information that (most likely) some students and parents used; like, an 8th grader, trying to compare SHS with private schools, might want to see that information; plus I thought they were cool to look at, so I will leave it up to your judgment here, but I hope you decide to keep them in.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 01:17, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

  • At this point it probably serves no purpose. Alansohn (talk) 14:19, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Your edits to Galloway Township, NJ

To kindly inform you, I have reverted your edits on the above mentioned article. For the mayor's position, you inserted the wrong term expiration date, it is December 2013, not 2014, I have included the link below to confirm that.

http://www.gallowaytwp-nj.gov/index.php?id=0&view=council

I have also re-added the deputy mayor's position. I thought we mutually agreed awhile back to keep this in the infobox. As I mentioned, the deputy mayor in this particular township has numerous responsibilities. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Djbutala93 (talkcontribs) 00:44, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Your Edit of Lyle Goodhue, Moorestown

  • The problem with the source from this journal is that is only states that he worked there, not that he lived in Moorestown. You provided an address at 459 Camden Avenue. If you have a source for that, then add it to the article. But in the absence of a source showing that Goodhue lived in Moorestown the entry will be removed again t should not be reinserted without reliable and verifiable sourcing demonstrating RESIDENCE in Moorestown. Alansohn (talk) 17:59, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Alan: I have a notarized document from the State of New Jersey (a birth certificate for his son's birth in nearby Riverton, New Jersey) which gives Dr. Lyle Goodhue's home address in Moorestown on March 31, 1935. Would you like a copy? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jackson Goodhue (talkcontribs) 18:30, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

  • You could upload the image, though that might present privacy issues. You can also contact Wikipedia:Volunteer Response Team to provide documentation. Also understand that the intention is not to list every person who lived in every place. The bio states that he lived in Moorestown briefly while awaiting an opening elsewhere. Is it appropriate to include this brief residency in the article for Moorestown? Alansohn (talk) 18:41, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Alan: As I'm sure you know, jobs were hard to find in 1935 and 1936, in the middle of the Great Depression. A job at Beltsville, Maryland was promised by the USDA, but it was given at the last minute to a World War I veteran under a government preference program. So my father, Dr. Lyle D. Goodhue, accepted a position at the USDA's Japanese Beetle Laboratory in Moorestown. As a result, my father, my mother, my older sister, my older brother and I all lived for several years at 459 Camden Avenue, Moorestown. I'm sure it will be a surprise to my brother, when I tell him this, that we were not really residents of Moorestown at all. Jack Goodhue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jackson Goodhue (talkcontribs)

  • I can't prove that you and your family didn't live in Moorestown, nor am I making that claim. In you making the claim you need to establish it by using reliable and verifiable sources -- from such references as books, newspapers or magazines -- as required by Wikipedia policy. No individual constitutes a reliable source. I suggest that you review these policies to gain a better understanding of policies related to sourcing in Wikipedia and feel free to contact me here with any questions. Frantic City

I agree that the cultural references could use some more work here but I undid your deletion of "Frantic City , due to verifying some facts which you can see by visiting a short youtube clip which I also added for citation. Bathing beauties, a boardwalk-(AC had the 1st boardwalk, so if the Flintstones visited a boardwalk???), convention hall, the ocean...more than enough to convince anyone that Frantic City is Atlantic City.24.0.133.234 (talk) 01:54, 22 May 2013 (UTC) OOps I thought that I was logged in-that was meTeeVeeed (talk) 02:06, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

  • The other mentions in the section are for series that were filmed or set in Atlantic City, and this is what this section should be including. This is a fleeting schtick in a single episode that may well be one of the worst parody names ever used in a Flintstones episode, requiring a bit more of a stretch to connect Frantic City to Atlantic City than the billionth of a second that it takes in figuring out what New Rock City and Hollyrock refer to. Even with a source, this is a rather trivial cultural allusion that seems hardly worth retaining. Alansohn (talk) 02:10, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

You situation with Nightscream

Invitation to look at edits on IQ reference chart

I see the article IQ reference chart has been tagged for expert review since October 2012. As part of a process of drafting a revision of that article in my user sandbox, I am contacting all Wikipedians who have edited that article since early 2009 for whom I can find a user talk page.

I have read all the diffs of all the edits committed to the article since the beginning of 2009 (since before I started editing Wikipedia). I see the great majority of edits over that span have been vandalism (often by I.P. editors, presumably teenagers, inserting the names of their classmates in charts of IQ classifications) and reversions of vandalism (sometimes automatically by ClueBot). Just a few editors have referred to and cited published reliable sources on the topic of IQ classification. It is dismaying to see that the number of reliable sources cited in the article has actually declined over the last few years. To help the process of finding reliable sources for articles on psychology and related topics, I have been compiling a source list on intelligence since I became a Wikipedian in 2010, and I invite you to make use of those sources as you revise articles on Wikipedia and to suggest further sources for the source on the talk pages of the source list and its subpages. Because the IQ reference chart article has been tagged as needing expert attention for more than half a year, I have opened discussion on the article's talk page about how to fix the article, and I welcome you to join the discussion. The draft I have in my user sandbox shows my current thinking about a reader-friendly, well sourced way to update and improve the article. I invite your comments and especially your suggestions of reliable sources as the updating process proceeds. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk, how I edit) 20:12, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

Your violation of WP:AGF and WP:NPA

I have reported your violation violation of WP:AGF and WP:NPA at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. Nightscream (talk) 00:59, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

I have responded to the most recent comments.
LOL. Further issues? All you did was repeat the exact same ad hominem and tu quoque arguments you did further up in the same discussion. Nightscream (talk) 14:59, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
LOL! You still have never addressed the evidence that you habitually , baselessly and maliciously call people liars in a staggering display of bad faith in what you call "criticism". It's astounding that you are still allowed here as an editor, let alone entrusted by the community as an administrator. I look forward to your ArbCom efforts, where it will be a pleasure to see you hoisted by your own petard. And will you be following through on your threats to bring up every Wikipedia administrator for review for failing to accede to your demands? Alansohn (talk) 18:28, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Tiffany source

I posted the reference you need for Tiffany and Red Bank so you can trash that publicity statement! Good luck, Crtew (talk) 22:42, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the time to update the article. Bizarrely, Nightscream has agreed that the source was reliable all along, as it has been for the six years it's been in the article. If he had only tagged the sentence / paragraph as needing better sourcing, there are plenty of sources out there in addition to the one you added that might have addressed any concerns, legitimate or otherwise. After all, it's amazing what can be accomplished when your goal is to improve the encyclopedia by making articles better, rather than calling people liars. Sadly, he's done the same with you, and we're far from the only people he's attacked by calling them dishonest liars for disagreeing with his positions. This ANI seems to have triggered a wave of more collegial behavior by Nightscream, but let's see how long that lasts. Alansohn (talk) 14:30, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for June 6

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Mount Ephraim, New Jersey, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page WABC (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Populated places in the New York metropolitan area

I thought of an alternative, would it be alright if I put individual cities in Category:New York metropolitan area cities, Category:New York metropolitan area towns, etc.? And don't worry, those categories will be a sub-category of the existing Category:Populated places in the New York metropolitan area. Dwscomet (talk) 01:15, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

But they already are in Category:Populated places in the New York metropolitan area. As all of the counties are in the category, all of the populated places within those counties are already included. Alansohn (talk) 01:19, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

Little Italys in New Jersey

In response to your question of " In what way are any of these communities Italian or Little Italys, and what references support these claims?" Here is my answer [1], [2], [3]. Hold down Ctrl and press F and type in "Ancestries:". You'll see that people of Italian descent make up the largest proportion of the populations in each of these settlements except for Hammonton, New Jersey where Italian-Americans make up the majority of over 54% of the population. Peadar Ó Croidheáin (talk) 22:39, 7 June 2013, (GMT).

  • The question is what makes a place a "Little Italy"? If it's based solely on percentage of the population with Italian ancestry -- and I certainly know the ancestry data for places in New Jersey -- then I'd certainly agree in terms of Hammonton and some of the other places in New Jersey, such as Nutley. But if it's based on the existence of a cohesive Italian community with specific and identifiable districts that contain distinctively Italian institutions, restaurants, shops, religious / cultural organizations and other such indications to the extent that the area is called a "Little Italy" in reliable and verifiable sources describing the area, then I don't see it. If you take a look at the article for Little Italy, the only place listed in New Jersey is Little Italy, Paterson, while there are other distinctively Italian neighborhoods across the Northeast and the United States that do meet that standard. By contrast, if you look at the articles for Koreatown, Fort Lee and Koreatown, Palisades Park you'll see details for communities that satisfy these criteria. As none of the communities in question (Hammonton, Nutley or Dover Beaches South) have independent articles for their Little Italy or descriptions of the existence of communities that might meet a "Little Italy" standard within the municipality / place, I removed the categories in question. Alansohn (talk) 23:06, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

Removing "NJ" in lead

I noticed your edits to Buckshutem, New Jersey and Bridgeboro, New Jersey, just to name a few, where you have (I assume unintentionally) removed "New Jersey" to the lead of each paragraph. You inserted the country to many pages recently, left in the township or borough, and the county, but missing the state. Please go through your edits again and be more careful about this for the future. I have fixed the two examples I gave. Tinton5 (talk) 16:58, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip and for correcting the errors. Alansohn (talk) 02:54, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Charles Mainor

In regards to your edit about New Jersey Assemblyman Charles Mainor and the need for sourcing allegations of wrongdoing, to which I did so in the original edit. Apparently Wikipedia does not appreciate links to videos referenced from Youtube, so a .mp4 format video is here: http://dirtydeedsdonedirtcheap.net/video/CharlesMainor.mp4. The video originates from the New Jersey Assembly and is shows the complete context.Kafir 1776 (talk) 17:38, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

See reply on user's talk page. Alansohn (talk) 17:40, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
What more do you want for a source than a video taken from WITHIN the assembly DURING the proceedings? Is A/V footage that of someone that shows the entire context no longer considered a legitimate source?Kafir 1776 (talk) 17:50, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
Looks like it has been reported to the Star-Ledger http://www.nj.com/politics/index.ssf/2013/06/sweeneys_gun_bill_stalls_in_co.html. Kafir 1776 (talk) 18:23, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

What do you have against {{cite news}}? —Anomalocaris (talk) 21:48, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Both formats are supported in Wikipedia and I find the free-form version far easier to build, especially as I have added thousands upon thousands of references. Once it becomes easier to use i will be happy to convert to the dark cite. Alansohn (talk) 04:46, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

Categories for NJ municipalities

I really feel that the municipality categories need to be done differently. Hopefully, over time, most municipalities will have their own category, like in CT and MA. This should warrant putting the municipalities in the appropriate larger categories of Cities, Towns, Villages, so that all of the named categories in a state can be seen together by size. By putting them in Populated places in XX county, you can also find all the named categories in each county. Please see examples like Category:Populated places in Barnstable County, Massachusetts. Jllm06 (talk) 16:29, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

The problem I've had is that the municipalities belong in the categories for populated places, while the categories for the municipalities don't. To pick a recent example, Hope Township, New Jersey belongs in Category:Populated places in Warren County, New Jersey; the Category:Hope Township, New Jersey doesn't because the category is not a populated place. The Hope Township category includes an amusement park, a church, a school district and a winery, but none of those are populated places in Warren County, though all are within the structure of Warren County. I will take a look at the Barnstable model and see how this fits with the intended purpose of the category system and to see if there is any alternative way to achieve your goals within that intended structure. Area data -- for both sqmi and km2 -- are supplied by the United States Census Bureau, with no need to perform a conversion

I see where Guerrilla of the Renmin has simply ignored our suggestions and has not waited to resolve this issue with us on their Talk page. Guerrilla has simply proceeded to make these unnecessary changes. I see where you are going separately after each of these changes and reverting them to show the correct information. I'm sure you have better things to do than correct Guerilla's unnecessary changes.

Unfortunately, even if somehow there was a consensus to allow Guerrilla to make the changes, the way the changes are being made are wrong and would conflict with the same info in the Info Boxes, which are manually entered and not converted using a Template. In addition, the percentage or area covered by water would be based on the manually entered English and metric units and not the converted units. This would cause further confusion and possible revisions.

In addition, Guerrilla's convert Template is using the abbreviated form of English unit rather than the fully spelled out units, which is preferred and regularly used in these articles. That also should be corrected.

On Guerrila's Talk page, you mentioned that you had already discussed this issue extensively. Is there any Talk page, where an authoritative consensus was reached, that you can refer me to?

How can Guerrilla be quickly stopped from making all these changes until there is some type of consensus resolution? Isn't there some Wikipedia protocol that prevents someone from making changes, even though others have indicated that the changes should not be made?

Is there a Wikipedia page for a team that handles New Jersey articles where this issue can be addressed?

This issue needs to be elevated higher than addressing it on Guerrilla's talk page below.

User talk:Guerrilla of the Renmin#Area data -- for both sqmi and km2 -- are supplied by the United States Census Bureau, with no need to perform a conversion

I look forward to giving you any assistance that you need.Wondering55 (talk) 15:49, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

  • I agree with you 100%, but it seems that GotR has stopped making these unnecessary conversion changes as part of his other edits. Assuming that there are no further changes by GotR, I think that this issue can be put to bed, for now, though I agree that we should keep an eye out for any further changes. Thanks again for all of your assistance with improving New Jersey articles. Alansohn (talk) 15:54, 26 June 2013 (UTC)
