to find english speaking translator"Andershus (talk) 07:22, 10 March 2018 (UTC)"[reply]

See WP:Translators available if you're looking for French-to-English translators. Please note that machine translations without manual improvements are not considered beneficial on the English Wikipedia. Huon (talk) 11:34, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it looks like it was translated from English to French, at least in the early days (2007): see Talk:Indian painting#Translated from French?. It's possible, of course, that some translation in the other direction (fr -> en) happened subsequently. Andershus, I believe you were responsible for adding the article page banner about translation from French. Do you have evidence of MT in the fr -> en direction? Can you please review the situation, and check if a translation banner is still required? If not, please remove it. And if it is, the {{expert needed}} template is not the right one; please see {{rough translation}}, {{cleanup translation}}, and {{proofreader needed}}. Pinging Huon. I have turned that page into a draft at Draft:Indian tribal painting. It clearly wasn't ready to be a live article yet. It included editorial comments. Significant parts were unreferenced. It will need to be improved before turning it into a live article. Huon (talk) 11:41, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
and the images were (as in the French) not "thumb" formatted, & other very basic format stuff was not done. PLEASE STOP ADDING THIS SORT OF STUFF! Johnbod (talk) 17:18, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

MT and disruptive editing at Indian painting

[edit]

Hello, Andershus, and welcome to Wikipedia. I'm aware that you've edited a handful of articles sporadically since 2014, and two articles very intensively since Feb 9, however your pattern of editing indicates that you are still a beginning editor and unfamiliar with some very basic rules of Wikipedia, including such fundamental points as placing comments and discussion at the Talk page and not in the article itself.

Another important point, is that this is English Wikipedia, and articles are written in English. The community opinion is that adding unedited machine-translated text is worse than nothing. By my browser's tally, you have 562 edits to Indian painting since February 9, and they appear to be all, or mostly, dumps of machine-translated text from the French article fr:Peinture en Inde into the English article. This is not helpful.

Please stop adding MT text to Indian painting immediately.

I appreciate that you are acting in good faith, but in reality, your edits require other editors to come in after you and try to fix what you have done. This amounts to disruptive editing as it is not helpful to the project. Translations into English from other languages are best done by those with native or near-native competence. There is no objection to your discussing on the article talk page at Talk:Indian painting any changes or additions you think are necessary, and requesting assistance in adding them. I will be opening a Talk page section about a possible rollback of your edits at Indian painting, to see whether there's a consensus to remove them or not, so please be aware that further edits at Indian painting may be a waste of your time, at least until there is consensus on how best to move forward.

Finally, I've seen your edits on French Wikipedia and that may be the best venue for your obvious talents, interests, and energy. Thanks again for your contributions to Wikipedia. If you'd like to comment about this post, please do so below, so the discussion is kept all in one place. Cordially, Mathglot (talk) 00:34, 11 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Est-ce que vous avez du mal à comprendre l'anglais écrite ici? Utilisez-vous parfois la traduction automatique pour lire les messages ici sur votre PdD, et pour répondre aux messages? En principe, on devrait répondre en anglais ici sur en-wiki, mais si vous preferez, vous pouvez bien me répondre en français, si cela encouragerait une meilleure échange entre nous. Bien Cordialement, Mathglot (talk) 00:49, 11 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Follow-up about your machine translations

[edit]

Information icon Just a follow-up to let you know that according to a consensus of users at Talk:Indian painting, several hundred of your edits at Indian painting subsequent to version 824774041 of 11:55, February 9, 2018 have been removed as unconstructive machine translations.

Please refrain from adding any more machine translations. Any further edits of yours at Indian painting, or at other articles on English Wikipedia which involve machine translation are likely to be reverted expeditiously, and may be viewed as disruptive. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. N'hesitez pas de me contacter pour toute renseignement complémentaire. Cordially, Mathglot (talk) 05:38, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Indian tribal painting

[edit]

Hello, Andershus. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Indian tribal painting".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Abelmoschus Esculentus 10:35, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Samikshavad and multiple other articles into Indian painting. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 12:21, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
