Citing sources

[edit]

Hello again. In reviewing your edits, including those at Thrombin and Protein S, I see that you are not adding sources for your contributions. Anything that is not common knowledge (like "the sky is blue") should be cited to a reliable source (like a newspaper or journal article or a book), which is also described in the links in the welcome message above. The source should preferably, but not necessarily, be online-accessible. Please have a look. Cheers! —[AlanM1(talk)]— 10:31, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, if you want to go back and add the sources to your contributions, you can see your history at Special:Contributions/Angunnu. —[AlanM1(talk)]—
Try this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources
I favour the inline citation style, using <ref> tags. But there's several ways of citing. MrDemeanour (talk) 12:01, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the help. I think it will take some time for me to get adapted to the methods here .Well will keep trying. Angunnu (talk) 12:15, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry; if you screw it up, eventually someone will come along and repair it. The main (only?) asset of Wikipedia is its legion of editors, and you are one of them.
And to be sure, it takes time to learn how to do things like citing - I've been editing since about 2004, and I have much to learn. There are tools you can use to make citations easier, but I haven't learned to use them! MrDemeanour (talk) 15:42, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. You seem to have gotten the hang of it at Protein S, presumably looking at the coding of the other refs in the article, which is always a great way to learn here. Good job! One thing you may not have run across is the re-use of cites. If you need to use a cite more than once in the same article, in the leading <ref> tag, you can add a name, like <ref name="PMID123456">{{Cite journal ...}}</ref>. Later, if you want to use that ref again, just use <ref name="PMID123456" /> (note the extra " /") instead of repeating the whole reference. Cheers! —[AlanM1(talk)]— 19:15, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi.Yes,kind of. Now,if I am adding PMID1234...does it have to be any particular number,or will any random number be enough? Angunnu (talk) 01:28, 29 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You can call it whatever you like, within reason. To be safe, stick to letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores and surround it with "quotes". I usually use an abbreviation of the source name/author+hyphen+date, e.g., name="NYT-20191029" —[AlanM1(talk)]— 09:05, 29 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Okay.Got it.

Names

[edit]

Hi. In edits like this one to Factor VIII, when you introduce a new name to the article, like Tuddenham, it's best to include their given name as well. You should also try to find that person's wikipedia article if it exists to provide the reader with a convenient link to read more about them. Subsequent mentions by surname are fine. In this case, I changed Tuddenham to [[Edward Tuddenham]], producing Edward Tuddenham (after verifying that link was to the correct person). There may sometimes be other words, too, that could benefit from linking, though see WP:OVERLINK. Cheers, and keep up the good work! —[AlanM1(talk)]— 23:40, 29 October 2019 (UTC) Got it![reply]

Hi,when we are using names which appear in red color on the Wikipedia page should we link them- like when a page is not yet created but still it is appearing in red letters. If yes please tell me how to do that too. Thank you. Angunnu (talk) 15:37, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

linking to a page that does not exist is saying that you think the page should and eventually will exist, it is inviting other editors to create the page. If the person nor topic you are linking to seems to be clearly notable is is relavant to the article you are editing, feel free. See WP:REDLINK. However, if in doublt, it is better to avoid a redlink -- make one only when it seems rather clear cut. Make a redlink by enclosing the name of the topic in double square brackets, like this: [[New topic]], which renders as: New topic. I hope that is clear. I noticed your post on the talk page at MAN, and have looked up a little of the controversy about the picture on the internet. After reading some commentary, not being Indian, I have no understanding. Could you explain why the picture is controversial? Thanks! Jacona (talk) 13:35, 8 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi [[User:Jacona|Jacona],Regarding the photo onMAN, I wouldn’t say that the picture is controversial..The discussions are more likely due to the fact the guy in the picture looks like a person from Kerala, which is a state in India. The local media and FM channels are discussing it as to find out who the guy is.That’s all.It was amusing for all of us here that Wikipedia selected a local guy for its page on MAN(Angunnu (talk) 04:08, 9 November 2019 (UTC))[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Whole blood clotting test (WBCT)

[edit]

Hello Angunnu,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Whole blood clotting test (WBCT) for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Control copyright icon Hello Angunnu, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to Ciraparantag have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 11:14, 23 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]
Just follow the steps 1, 2 and 3 as shown and fill in the details

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. Remember that when adding content about health, please only use high-quality reliable sources as references. We typically use review articles, major textbooks and position statements of national or international organizations. (There are several kinds of sources that discuss health: here is how the community classifies them and uses them.) WP:MEDHOW walks you through editing step by step. A list of resources to help edit health content can be found here. The edit box has a built-in citation tool to easily format references based on the PMID or ISBN.

  1. While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which has a button "Cite" click on it
  2. Then click on "Automatic" or "Manual"
  3. For Manual: Choose the most appropriate template and fill in the details, then click "Insert"
  4. For Automatic: Paste the URL or PMID/PMC and click "Generate" and if the article is available on PubMed Central, Citoid will populate a citation which can be inserted by clicking "Insert"

We also provide style advice about the structure and content of medicine-related encyclopedia articles. The welcome page is another good place to learn about editing the encyclopedia. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a note. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 01:44, 24 November 2019 (UTC) Okay.Thank you (Angunnu (talk) 01:59, 24 November 2019 (UTC))[reply]
