So what about albums released as PENTATONE? Are you saying they should be listed as Pentatone, not PENTATONE or Pentatone Classics?

  • Hello, while the bot may not have identified the actual source, (it found a mirror of the source), there is still some close paraphrasing of the source [1]. The inscriptions themselves are ok to include since they're fairly central to the article, but other content such as the descriptions of the engravings can be re-written without changing the meaning or significance. If you wouldn't mind, can you have a look at the source linked and the article content and rephrase the closely paraphrased bits? WikiCup 2014 September newsletter

In one month's time, we will know our WikiCup 2014 champion. Newcomer Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) has taken a strong lead with a featured list (historical coats of arms of the U.S. states from 1876) and a raft of featured pictures. Reigning champion Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) is in second place with a number of high-importance biology articles, including new FA Isopoda and new GA least weasel. Scotland Casliber (submissions), who is in his fifth WikiCup final, is in third, with featured articles Pictor and Epacris impressa.

Signups for the 2015 WikiCup are open. All Wikipedians, new and experienced, are warmly invited to sign up for the competition. Wikipedians interested in friendly competition may also like to sign up for the GA Cup, a new WikiCup-inspired competition which revolves around completing good article reviews. @Harej: James, this is so great! Close to what I was imagining for this idea. If you have time, would you mind sharing your work on the idea lab project page, perhaps including relevant information such as your process, what this "toy" can and cannot do, etc? I think, ideally, this tool could go one step further and possibly create categories automatically, feature a popup which allows users to insert template parameters, etc. But this is a solid tool already, and something I could not have come up with on my own, so THANK YOU for your work. @IndianBio: I would say that yes, it deserves an article. That being said, I still think some of the Artpop songs also deserve articles, so perhaps my threshold for separate articles is lower than other people. I went ahead and created the page Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga: Cheek to Cheek Live!, which follows WP's manual of style. Wikipedia Monument

Would you please aks the Foundation? They only allowed the use of the ball - tjere is no plan to send a person to the ceremony. Same with Wikimedia Deutschland. There will be the Vice president Sebastian Wallroth - but not as official, he will be there in private. Wikimedia Poland actually knows also not much about it - it all was made without any chapters. Please take it away. It is not correct. By the way - how you can write in an encyclopedia (!!!) about things that will come? Enyclopedias are there for Knowledge - not for things that could happen. WikiCup 2014: The results

The 2014 WikiCup champion is Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions), who flew the flag of the Smithsonian Institution. This was Godot13's first WikiCup competition and, over the 10 months of the competition, he has produced (among other contributions) two featured lists and an incredible 292 featured pictures, including architectural photographs and scans of historical documents. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), 2012 and 2013 WikiCup champion, came in second, having written a large number of biology-related articles. Scotland Casliber (submissions), WikiCup finalist every year since 2010, finished in third.

A full list of our prize-winners follows:

Congratulations to everyone who has been successful in this year's WikiCup, whether you made it to the final rounds or not, and a particular congratulations to the newcomers to the WikiCup who have participated this year. Washington statue

Hi. I did a delete on the Washington template of the Portland statue because it doesn't seem like a major monument or very well known artwork of Washington, and is already listed on his 'List of Memorials' page. There are dozens of statues of Washington, and it seems it might be better to just list the very major ones on the template (I've removed two others and added one). That's my reasoning on it, and wanted to come by to let you know the "why". Thanks, and if you really think it's worth putting back at least let's move it further down in the section past the more major tributes and monuments. Thanks, and I feel bad about removing artwork from a template (but there are so many tributes to Washington, they multiplied like rabbits for a time there). I haven't done a item-by-item look at the memorials. Is there a main Coppini statue, the one you did the page on? Maybe I was wrong, and if it is the main memorial to Washington in the State of Washington then that is surely worth a listing. Because of your edit I put some attention on the template again, and found two brothers and one sister that were missed (see multiplying like rabbits reference above). You should not feel bad. I was not offended. I wonder if it would be worth having a navbox dedicated specifically to sculptures of Washington? The Coppini article I created is for the sculpture in Portland, Oregon, but I would not consider it a "main" sculpture or think it is any more important than the other two statues he created of Washington. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:28, 9 November 2014 (UTC)

Chess Players

Do you have a source for the assertion that the sculpture The Chess Players in John Marshall Park is "based on the 1876 Eakins painting of the same name"? The men are younger and do not resemble those in the painting, they are seated facing forward (rather than opposite each other), and their dress is not Victorian.   • @BoringHistoryGuy: I must have added it for a reason, but since the inline citation does not confirm the claim and I can't find a source after a quick Internet search, I removed "based on the 1876 Eakins painting of the same name" from the article. Your photo on front page of The Oregonian

You should buy a copy of today's Oregonian, because one of your photos of Montgomery Park is on the front page, with credit to "Another Believer/Wikimedia Commons". It's in a sidebar to this article (Nov. 19 online, Nov. 20 in print), which appears to have been included only in the print edition. I learned of it from the "Newseum" website, where a low-res jpeg of the cover appears, but the Nov. 20 one will disappear about 20 hours from now (and not be archived), replaced by the Nov. 21 edition. Top Level Design

You should have contacted me about the bot moving the period. I've added the article to Check Wikipedia's whitelist. This will stop the detection of an error, thus the bot won't arrive there. WikiCup 2015 is just around the corner...

Hello everyone, and may we wish you all a happy holiday season. As you will probably already know, the 2015 WikiCup begins in the new year; there is still time to sign up. We have a few important announcements concerning the future of the WikiCup.

  • We would like to announce that Josh (J Milburn) and Ed (The ed17), who have been WikiCup judges since 2009 and 2010 respectively, are stepping down. This decision has been made for a number of reasons, but the main one is time. Both Josh and Ed have found that, over the previous year, they have been unable to devote the time necessary to the WikiCup, and it is not likely that they will be able to do this in the near future. Furthermore, new people at the helm can only help to invigorate the WikiCup and keep it dynamic. Josh and Ed will still be around, and will likely be participating in the Cup this following year as competitors, which is where both started out.
  • In a similar vein, we hope you will all join us in welcoming Jason (Sturmvogel 66) and Christine (Figureskatingfan), who are joining Brian (Miyagawa) to form the 2015 WikiCup judging team. Jason is a WikiCup veteran, having won in 2010 and finishing in fifth this year. Christine has participated in two WikiCups, reaching the semi-finals in both, and is responsible for the GA Cup, which she now co-runs.
  • The discussions/polls concerning the next competition's rules will be closed soon, and rules changes will be made clear on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring and talk pages. While it may be impossible to please everyone, the judges will make every effort to ensure that the new rules are both fair and in the best interests of the competition, which is, first and foremost, about improving Wikipedia.

  • Would have profound reservations about a general genealogical project, given accuracy, BLP and data protection concerns. To my mind what would be better is to have a project that was more like a continually updated wiki based version of the Dictionary of National Biography, (English Wikisource has a long term project to transcribe the 1900 DNB, and that could form the basis of a new project.) A Biographical Dictionary is different from the scope of Wikipedia, and some items that are notable for it would not be on Wikipedia. (academics with a small publication record for example.) WikiCup 2015 launch newsletter

Round one of the 2015 WikiCup has begun! So far we've had around 80 signups, which close on February 5. If you have not already signed up and want to do so, then you can add your name here. There have been changes to to several of the points scores for various categories, and the addition of Peer Reviews for the first time. These will work in the same manner as Good Article Reviews, and all of the changes are summarised here.

Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round, and one of the new changes this year is that all scores must be claimed within two weeks of an article's promotion or appearance, so don't forget to add them to your submissions pages! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. Hotels navbox

I hope the new navbox you created, Hotels in Portland, Oregon, doesn't encourage people to create articles on every hotel in Portland, because the vast majority are not notable, and articles on subjects like that tend to require a lot of monitoring to keep them free of promotional info. The hotels (and ex-hotels) formerly included in the Architecture in Portland navbox were originally supposed to be only the architecturally notable ones, and it's regrettable that that people started adding every building of each type to that navbox (which is why it became too large). I'm not convinced that we need a navbox for Hotels in Portland, but that doesn't mean I'm proposing its deletion. SJ Morg (talk) 07:48, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

@SJ Morg: My goal was to begin taking steps to eliminate the Architecture in Portland, Oregon template, which I think is subjective and not particularly helpful. So, I created separate templates for Hotels and Theatres. I agree that most hotels are not notable, but the ones that are should be grouped together. The template might be more helpful, though, if it separated current hotels from former hotels (either because they are ex-hotels or were demolished). ---Another Believer (Talk) 07:55, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
I agree with you about the Architecture navbox, but why do we need a Hotels navbox at all? We have Category:Hotels in Portland, Oregon, and in my opinion, categories are much less likely to encourage people to create articles on non-notable entities than navboxes are. There's a lot navbox abuse on Wikipedia, and my feelings about this navbox really extend to many other navboxes – including both certain others created by you and also ones that have nothing to do you with you or Oregon. Navigation boxes that simply include all items in a (single) category and nothing else usually serve no valid purpose, unless they include red links for articles which really do warrant being created – often they instead include red links for articles that I don't believe should be created – and they do have a drawback: They often make it difficult or impossible to use "What links here" to determine for an article such as, say, Hillsdale how many other articles have 'legitimate' links to it. I suspect that a lot of editors create navboxes solely for the purpose of filling up "what links here" for articles that otherwise might be orphans, and I don't believe that's helpful. I'm not a deletionist, but there are enough inclusionists around here that I'm concerned that my taking up this argument might, in the end, turn out not to be a productive use of my limited Wikipedia time.
I realize this is something that should be discussed in a broader forum, not on your talk page, but I need to avoid taking time to initiate and participate in any such discussion for now, because I have too many obligations in real life until at least February. (I had to spend several hours fixing a major error in William Spencer Newbury, which I'd intended to nominate for DYK, a delay which caused me to miss the DYK deadline, and now I'm even further behind in non-Wikipedia 'work'!) But I wanted to at least reply to your comments above. For now, I'd prefer that you avoid creating navigation boxes which simply duplicate categories, but you are free to disagree. @SJ Morg: Thanks for your feedback. Well, filling up the "what links here" for articles is certainly not my reason for creating navboxes. Though I do use "what links here" often, I never thought about navigation boxes affecting "what links here" in an illegitimate manner. I do not share the same observation re: red links in navboxes. By definition, navboxes are intended to include only existing articles and not red links. I remove red links or plain-text (non-linked) entries from navboxes at any opportunity. I will continue creating navboxes for Portland's neighborhoods, as I believe it is helpful to group together articles related to specific geographic jurisdictions, but I will probably hold off on the Architecture navbox until a wider discussion can be had. Besides, I am spreading myself too thin right now, between the Portland neighborhoods project, offline Wikimedia work, and "real life" work. Fair enough, but I maintain that categories (e.g. Category:Hillsdale, Portland, Oregon) already "group together articles related to specific geographic jurisdictions" sufficiently in cases like the neighborhoods of Portland, and I see no good reason to create navboxes for most of them. @SJ Morg: Why some and not others? Is it about the number of entries? Template:Buckman, Portland, Oregon has many entries, for example. And having re-read the definition of a navbox, I am inclined to think that they are justified, but I could also see how someone could argue the opposite. I think that ideally the neighborhood articles would be more fleshed out and mention the navbox entries throughout the prose, and entries within a particular navbox would references one another (either in the prose or via See also sections). The problem is, many of the articles are underdeveloped. So perhaps I am skipping ahead of the work it takes to flesh out many of the articles and show how the navbox entries are related, but I still think the navboxes create a good foundation for grouping together sites specific to particular neighborhoods. I do see your point about duplicating the purpose of a category. Maybe I am just more of a navbox person than a category person? Also, keep in mind the navboxes can be formatted to further separate houses, hotels, restaurants, events, MAX stations, etc., as appropriate. ----Another Believer (Talk) 21:30, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
I don't feel strongly about any of this, and you have some valid points, but to answer your question "why some and not others?" – I again go back to my point about duplicating categories. Every single entry in that Buckman navbox is in the Buckman category, and (I assume) vice versa, so they duplicate one another. That Buckman navbox really should be divided into sections, grouping different types of subjects/buildings into sections within the box, and then it will do something that the Buckman category does not. Then, even I would consider it a helpful navbox (but I think it should have been divided up before it was created), but for neighborhoods whose navboxes have very few entries and which are 100% the same as the entries in the corresponding category, I would say those shouldn't have been created in the first place – for example, the Template:Hillsdale, Portland, Oregon (only three entries!), Template:Arbor Lodge, Portland, Oregon (four entries) and Template:Richmond, Portland, Oregon (only 11). @SJ Morg: I appreciate your explanation. I do agree that some of the navboxes would be more helpful if they had sections separating different types of buildings, etc., and I am not against someone making those changes. It is something I might get around to doing myself, but right now I am spending time identifying and grouping sites by city quadrant, then by neighborhood, and creating many new Wikipedia and Commons categories, add interlinks, categorizing Commons images, etc. I've been finding neighborhood boundaries, inspecting maps, tagging Oregon articles without coordinates, associating nonexistent both possibly notable sites as future Wikipedia articles, etc. In other words, doing a lot of time-consuming work, but not perfectly. I am not sure we will agree about the value of the naxboxes, but at the same time I would not be offended if this topic in general, or specific templates, were put up for discussion. In the end, I want what is best for the wiki and not my personal preferences, but in the meantime, I am adding what I believe are constructive edits to the project. ----Another Believer (Talk) 00:17, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

List of sculptures in Central Park

Hello, A.B.
I'm suggesting that a table be added to the List of sculptures in Central Park. This would make the list much easier to use – alphabetical, complete, no arbitrary groupings – and the GPS coordinates would (eventually) generate a map of all the works. You've started articles on a number of the sculptures in Central Park. I hope you'll be interested in putting in your 2-cents at Talk:List of sculptures in Central Park#Table?

@BoringHistoryGuy: Glad to hear! Sometimes I get negative feedback when I create many stubs or articles about such specific topics, but I think it helps the encyclopedia. I can't wait to see what the Central Park sculptures list will look like once "complete".

I'm in Philadelphia, and though I recognize a few of these, I know next to nothing about them.
I think the best way to handle Central Park is to follow the introduction with a "Selected sculptures" section with the pieces already written, then the table with a list of all the works. That way we get both detail and completeness. == BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 18:21, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

How to delete?

Sorry to bug you Another Believer. There is this article called Debut Box Set – The CD Singles Collection from Debut which I just find out that refers to an unofficial release. Mozambique

Hi, I saw your edit on the Mozambique poisoning, and was curious if you are any good with map templates. We were discussing on talk whether the map could go inside the template, rather than below it, but my hamfisted attempts at copy-pasting from other articles with maps in their templates isn't working.

BTW, re the pixels, my goal was to get the widths aligned at whatever width.
