Happy New Year, Astros4477

Thanks, happy new year to you too!--Astros4477 (talk) 17:57, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Roller coaster names

Quick question for you ... you edited the article at Wild Eagle to remove the italics from the coaster name, and your edit summary said something to the effect that roller coaster names weren't normally italicized. When did that change? If you can link me to a discussion thread, I'd appreciate it. I'm not making any changes/edits to add them back until I see what happened and where consensus fell. Thanks. --McDoobAU93 18:33, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

There was never a discussion. I've never seen a roller coaster article on Wikipedia where the title is italicized. I've only been here for a year so did they used to be italicized?--Astros4477 (talk) 19:03, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
Yes, when Wikiproject Roller Coasters was a separate WikiProject, the group's Manual of Style (so to speak) stated that coaster names were to be italicized, like titles. I am gonna try and find that page as a reference. --McDoobAU93 21:35, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
I remember there were guidelines, but those haven't been updated in years. If you look at all the Good Articles in the project, barely anyone of them follow the old guidelines.--Astros4477 (talk) 22:51, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
I was curious about this too. Outside of Wiki it goes both ways: ACE and the European Coaster Club do italicize coaster names in their publications. IAAPA italicizes all ride names, not just coasters. Park World and Amusement Today don't italicize coasters or rides. I haven't italicized any coaster names in the articles I've edited online, because I didn't think we did that on Wiki. If there is an agreed upon preference or style sheet, let me know.JlACEer (talk) 23:07, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
McDoob, if you can find that reference, it would help us reassess the need. At this point, however, roller coasters are being treated as names of structures or landmarks similar to the Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Big Ben, etc. I've been editing a bit longer than Astros (since 2010), and haven't seen italics being used for coasters either. --GoneIn60 (talk) 05:26, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
I've been trying to locate it in the old WP Roller Coasters files, but they seem to have disappeared after WPRC was assimilated into WP Amusement Parks. For much of my time here (October 2006), coaster names have been italicized, but I'll go with whatever consensus desires. --McDoobAU93 17:16, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
Just to let you know, nothing was deleted from Wikipedia in the merger so it is probably still out there somewhere. This page might help along with the edit history of this page. Hope this helps. Themeparkgc  Talk  23:17, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Put a reference on the article Central Park Carousel

Will you please put a reference on the article Central Park Carousel becuase I dont know how to put a reference so can you please do it because I want it to stay on wikipedia. Please do leave a message on my talk page. Starship9000. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.131.177.233 (talk) 00:51, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

Operation B&M

Two things:

1. Did you forget to nominate Bizarro (Six Flags Great Adventure) for GA-status. I see that you re-wrote the whole thing (making it GA-ready) but you never nominated it. I don't want to nominate it because I did nothing to the article other then add a ref right now.

2. Just to keep my self busy, I created Operation B&M. If you wanna help out, your free to do so. :)

--Dom497 (talk) 20:05, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

I completely forgot so thanks for the reminder! The Operation B&M is a great idea! I noticed you're pretty much only working with B&M articles so I think it would be really cool to have all or most of the articles GA class. I'll be glad to help out where necessary. I plan to get GateKeeper to FAC but I don't see that happening until late this year cause it'll have to go through a copy edit, GAN and FAC. Also just a note, I think we should keep these article being reviewed by people outside of the project.--Astros4477 (talk) 21:17, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
Dom, have you ever thought of making operation B&M as part of the Amusement Parks WikiProject? Themeparkgc  Talk  22:52, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
@Astros, your gonna have to get rid of the Pointbuzz refs for any chance at FA! :p After reading your post I looked at the Levi article and I think it might stand a chance at FA after a copy-edit, what do you think? Also, I agree with the reviewing. @Themeparkgc, well my intention was to keep my self busy on Wikipedia for at least the next few months. To be honest, I was ready to retire (I know, again) just last month because it was sooo boring here but I was able to pick my self back up and this is a way to make sure that won't happen for a while. In the end, I guess we could bring it into the project and if we do, we should probably come up with another "operation".--Dom497 (talk) 03:06, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
Just a couple things about getting Leviathan to FA, I'd suggest removing the references in the lead per WP:LEDE. Also, I'm pretty sure image galleries are discouraged at GAN (I could be wrong on that). I'd suggest adding a reception section too. Besides that, I think it's pretty good. Btw, I hope you stay as long as possible. The project has been making great progress in the last year and it would be nice to see it continue.--Astros4477 (talk) 03:42, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
During the GAN review, we discussed how biased all the reviews out there are so we settled to leaving the section out. :P --Dom497 (talk) 03:55, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
Oh, and to Themeparkgc, give me a day or two to think about moving into the project.--Dom497 (talk) 03:58, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
O and it doesn't matter to me if its moved into the project. Honestly, I don't think anyone besides us will look at it anyway.--Astros4477 (talk) 04:02, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
That was exactly what I was thinking, in which just make it look better...why not move it? I just don't know where to move it in the project. ;) --Dom497 (talk) 04:19, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
So we all know my attempted revival of collaboration of the month was a flop, so I decided to make Operation B&M a replacement. Basically I have made it replace most of the existing content here with edit history still preserved here. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:22, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon and improve Batman: The Ride. If you have any thoughts on the discussion I started here it would be greatly appreciated. Themeparkgc  Talk  23:36, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, not trying to butt in. Just thought I'd offer some advice as well. Some of the images on the left in Leviathan will need to be moved right or removed. Per MOS:IMAGELOCATION, they should not be used at the beginning of a section. Thought I'd leave the decisions on how you want to modify that up to you. I'll go ahead and make other minor changes that are needed. --GoneIn60 (talk) 04:50, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
You're always welcome to butt in Goneln, the more help the better :).--Astros4477 (talk) 04:55, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Millennium Force

Hello! Your submission of Millennium Force at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Rlendog (talk) 02:56, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

 • I just want to clarify so that there is no confusion in the future that the requirement for DYK is for a 5x expansion (or a new article altogether), since DYK's main purpose is to highlight new articles. The exception is unsourced BLPs, where a 2x requirement is used. The DYK eligibility rules are here and here. I think you did an excellent job with the article, but there was already too much there before to make it a good DYK candidate. Rlendog (talk) 15:24, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

WP AP newsletter

I saw your post on WP: AP's talk page so I came up with a rough template of what the newsletter can look like, its the old WP: Good Articles template I used to use in October so I just changed it up a bit to fit with this WP (I haven't changed the text).--Dom497 (talk) 03:16, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Geez, I forget to post the link to the rough template. Let me know what you think.--Dom497 (talk) 17:07, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

It's obviously hard to read with the black background but from what I can read, it looks like a good format.--Astros4477 (talk) 17:11, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
How can the background be changed? It's hard to work on with it being black. Also when are we thinking about distributing the first release?-- Astros4477 (Talk) 22:17, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
Any thing that has the colour code #000000 is black. Change that code to what ever colour you want and it will get rid of the black. Also, I was thinking we could aim for March 1 (Q2) as that gives us a month but if we need longer June (Q3) would be fine. I only have one more exam tomorrow and the rest of the week off so I will have a lot of my time to be online where I can start working on the newsletter.--Dom497 (talk) 00:24, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Q1 would be from January 1 through to March 31. Q2 begins on April 1. etc Themeparkgc  Talk  01:03, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Article request

Hi. I'm not sure if you take article requests, but would you be able to tackle Geauga Lake? I don't have the time myself to tackle it but would like to see it become a GA. Wizardman 17:09, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

I've had it in the back of my head to get Geauga Lake to GA status someday. Last winter I was able to promote Cedar Point to GA status so I think I could do the same for Geauga Lake. I'll start looking into it soon.--Astros4477 (talk) 17:14, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

I started a discussion on User talk:GoneIn60 after he moved a ride logo from the infobox of Texas Giant with the explanation that using a photo was the current trend. I would be interested in your opinion.JlACEer (talk) 17:32, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

FLC

The FLC was getting close to the two-month mark, by which time we really need to see some evidence of community support to keep a candidate up. There was only one support and continuing source-related questions. Under the circumstances, I felt that a consensus to promote the list wasn't going to be reached at this FLC, and that's why I closed it. Hopefully this makes sense. Unlike FAC, we have no required waiting time before a renomination, although I'd suggest that you clear up the most recent source queries before nomming it again. So when you clear up the remaining issues, feel free to bring the list back for another try. Giants2008 (Talk) 02:50, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

There were only two references issues. I addressed one of them, the other shouldn't be a problem but I'll be glad to comment on it if it's brought up again.--Astros4477 (talk) 04:10, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

how to earn the Coaster Barnstar?

I wonder how I am supposed to earn the Coaster Barnstar becuase I have been improving and editing numerous roller coaster articles such as:Superman: Ultimate Flight , Manta (SeaWorld Orlando),Big Dipper (Geauga Lake), and Volcano, The Blast Coaster so how do I earn the Coaster Barnstar since I improved these 4 articles? Please do leave a message on my talk page if you have anything. --Starship9000 (talk) 14:27, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

Making more improvements to articles would help. Maybe once you get more familiar with Wikipedia, you could try to get an article to Good article criteria.-- Astros4477 (Talk) 20:25, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

roller coaster articles

Is there any roller coaster articles I should improve? --Starship9000 (talk) 21:40, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

Just look at Bolliger and Millard and tell me which roller coaster articles I can improve? --Starship9000 (talk) 22:54, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
For beginners, any article that is below B-Class. If you think your up to the challenge to get an article to GA-Class, then edit any article that you can find reliable sources for to get the article to Good Article status, though I suggest you first get used to the format of roller coaster articles and start of nice and easy (edit stub-class/start-class articles).--Dom497 (talk) 00:18, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
Would I earn the Coaster Barnstar if I get a article to good status? --Starship9000 (talk) 03:09, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
Barnstars are not something you should expect to get for doing something. They are given out by users who would like to share there thanks (in a way). Look at me, with all the articles I've improved/written, I've never gotten that barnstar.--Dom497 (talk) 13:32, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

Big Dipper (Geauga Lake)

Hello,

In regard to your comment to us about the Big Dipper at Geauga Lake - That was a first edit made to Wikipedia by my middle school age son, who is a roller coaster enthusiast. His and our knowledge of the Wikipedia collaboration process is definitely at a novice level. At any rate we discussed this and the necessity of finding multiple sources. My son's assertion was that the Big Dipper was demolished (rather than standing but not operating) but we subsequently found that the news stories supporting his assertion were all in the future tense and even found a TV news story that the Big Dipper had been saved from demolition. However we also see from that article that it is to be dismantled and put into storage. So on a surface inspection by my adult eye I see conflicting reports which would lead me to need either firsthand knowledge or a full chronology of the news stories to set them straight. Lacking the motivation to do this myself, I'm sure my son will research it and enter the Wikipedia collaboration process with a keener eye to verifying and researching sources as well as documenting edits to articles written by others.

We do appreciate your patience and your article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.98.242.201 (talk) 14:36, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

Hello, thank you for explaining everything. The situation of the Big Dipper is tricky. It has been set to be demolished several times but it has never happened. I visit Wildwater Kingdom often (the water park located adjacent to Geauga Lake) and I know for a fact that Big Dipper is standing but not operating. In a recent news article, it shows video of the Big Dipper still standing. Many of us on Wikipedia would love to help him and get him a better understanding of how Wikipedia works.-- Astros4477 (Talk) 14:54, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
I actually added in the article "It is currently Standing but not operating". --Starship9000 (talk) 16:45, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

File Finding

Hey, can you try to find this photo on flickr? It is likely copyright infragment and it needs to be deleted. I tried looking for it but couldn't find it. Also, if you don't mind, try to find the other 2 images that Starship uploaded as those need to be deleted to.--Dom497 (talk) 03:25, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

I actually brought this up with an administrator a couple weeks ago. He said he would notify someone on Commons but never got back to me. They are all copyright infringements, I don't even think they are from Flickr. I think he just uploaded them straight from the Internet. I'm going to try to find the discussion.-- Astros4477 (Talk) 03:34, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

Done I've tagged the remaining files as copyvios. Easy way to find images is to go to Google Images and click on the little camera icon on the right hand side of the search bar. Copy and paste the direct wiki URL (i.e. this, and not this) and it will generally find the image for you. The copyvio template at Commons can then be used. MLB stadium refs

Hi Astros. I don't know if any of the four sites are reliable enough for FLC/FAC. We'd probably need to see some evidence that they are before I'd be comfortable seeing them used. Giants2008 (Talk) 01:45, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi! Just to let you know, i'm currently reviewing your articles Nighthawk and Firehawk. There are a few minor issues on the review pages but they should pass. Thanks! Retrolord (talk) 07:36, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi Astros4477, I'm beginning the copy-edit you requested to the above article at the GOCE Request page. Please feel free to contact me, or to correct or revert my edits if I'm doing something I shouldn't. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 13:26, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Done - I think this needs more work before nominating for FA status, so I recommend that you seek a peer review. Feel free to contact me about any issues arising from the copy-edit.Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 04:46, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
I'm actually surprised to hear you say that but thanks! You always do a great job.-- Astros4477 (Talk) 05:01, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
Thanks; well I can only work with what's there and the GOCE never guarantees an FA or GA pass after a copy-edit, so PR is the next logical step. I think the leader needs to summarise the whole article and I think the article needs more in-depth coverage of the ride, especially Reception. I also added a 'citation needed' tag in History—but that's probably a minor point. Anyway, good luck with it. :-) Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 05:44, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

Baseball book

Here it is. It's $10.24 new and a buck and half used from Amazon: [1]. It's a great book. It's about 10 years old by now, I think, but the info is good. It has the full list of every ballpark every current MLB team has used, and has at least a 2-4 page rundown of many of the historically important ones. --Jayron32 00:13, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

Blue Streak (Cedar Point)

I am really happy to help promote Blue Streak (Cedar Point) to good status so anything I should do so that way I can promote it to B-Class first. I do not see any issues and I am more happy to work on it and try to help promote it. Any ways that I can help with it. Is there any issues? Should I add the Awards that it won if it already won it? I really want to help promote that article to B-class then good status so is there any ways? --Starship9000 (talk) 00:38, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

What are reliable sources? Do you mean external links? It appears to have no issues at all. --Starship9000 (talk) 02:35, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
Starship, NEVER say there are no problems with an article when it is c-class!--Dom497 (talk) 12:33, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Firehawk

Regarding the train section, I'm beginning to question the statement that claims the trains used to recline outside of the station and move back to an upright position prior to re-entering. The first source cited seems to say that they were designed to recline inside the station. The second source, which is a review of the ride, mentions that they have the ability to recline on the lift hill, but doesn't say anything about returning to an upright position prior to re-entering the station. Do you know of any other sources that confirm this? --GoneIn60 (talk) 16:56, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

I don't know specifics about Firehawk but I know with Nighthawk (the prototype) that the trains were supposed to recline on the lift hill and return to the upright position on the brake run. I don't believe they EVER actually reclined outside the station. It was supposed to, but it never happened. Maybe in testing but I don't know about that.-- Astros4477 (Talk) 19:51, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
OK, well, I'll try to find sources to back the claim. If not, we may just want to remove it for now until at least one source is found. Interestingly, the Nighthawk article doesn't mention it at all. --GoneIn60 (talk) 21:06, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
The prototype Stealth was designed to raise and lower in the station. The next two models, Batwing (roller coaster) and X-Flight were designed to have the seats lowered on the lift and raised outside the station. Originally a hot rail run along from the brake run, into the station and up the entire lift to provide power for the lifting/lowering mechanism. The system never worked as designed and when X-Flight was moved to KI, the hot rail was removed and the mechanics on the trains were also removed. The station was redesigned and the mechanism to raise and lower the train is only in the station now. I believe the same is true at Batwing, although the old hot rail may still be in place.JlACEer (talk) 15:48, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
Here's a good photo showing the hot rail when it was at SFO.JlACEer (talk) 16:38, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the info! It's always nice to learn something new. Is there any source or magazine that we can use in the article that states that.-- Astros4477 (Talk) 18:55, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
I'll see what I can dig up.JlACEer (talk) 19:30, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
Have any of you looked at the press release? It says clearly that the train was to recline on the lift hill.--Dom497 (talk) 01:55, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
That works. Thanks! --GoneIn60 (talk) 00:47, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

Nighthawk (roller coaster) GAR

I'm sorry Astros, but I took a look at the Nighthawk article and the references do not meet the GA criteria. I have created a reassessment page here where the issues can be found.--Dom497 (talk) 21:46, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Thank you!

Thanks for the message. I do not know how to edit HTML so it is very hard for me. I have tons of info on roller coaster related sites, but I don't know how to type in HTML. I would like help making my user page. Can you help me? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zxwystyeboy (talkcontribs) 00:00, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Yes, feel free to leave any questions you have here.-- Astros4477 (Talk) 18:45, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

I have reviewed the Mean Streak article which you nominated for GA status. At the moment the article is on hold, so please see the comments at the review page to see what needs to be improved. As I am still busy in real life I may be slow to respond, but I'd be willing to extend the 7-day window if you have any queries and I haven't responded within a reasonable time. Themeparkgc  Talk  04:43, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Just a friendly reminder that there are still some issues at the review page which need resolving. Themeparkgc  Talk  23:50, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
The article is very close now; however, there still are a few issues. I'll return to it in just over 24 hours to make a final review of it's status. Themeparkgc  Talk  05:47, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
I have passed the article. As you now have promoted 22 articles to GA status, I would encourage you to assist by reviewing an article currently in the backlog. A number of articles in your area of interest can be found here. Themeparkgc  Talk  10:05, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
I thought we kind of decided that we should keep having people from outside the WP review the articles?-- Astros4477 (Talk) 11:40, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Well in the end, the rules are that as long as you haven't contributed to the article significantly, you can review it. When you think about it, it would probably be more beneficially for me to review one of your articles as because I (and you and Themeparkgc) are enthusiasts, we have a greater knowledge on these types of articles which then enables use to better critic the article and in the end, make the article better. I also think (if I remember correctly) that the decision to keep people outside of the WP from reviewing related articles was made by us three and not a WP as a whole so I think we can scrap it. Also, and I'm being honest, I've been looking at the list of nom's for the past few weeks trying to find an article to review and I keep hovering over your's and Themeparkgc's nom's....I WANT TO REVIEW THEM!!!!! But I remembered this "rule" so that's why I stopped my self. Finally, I'm in all support to scrap this "rule". </end of rant> --Dom497 (talk) 00:46, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
As long as the review is objective, I don't see a problem with it. Themeparkgc  Talk  09:20, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
Well if everyone agrees it's ok, I don't see a problem with it.-- Astros4477 (Talk) 20:55, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

X-Flight GAN

I have reviewed the X-Flight article and have left a few comments on the review page. A thing to note is that I have put the article on hold for only 6 days (not 7) as I am leaving for a trip/cruise one week today. If you need more time just let me know I can get another user to close the review.--Dom497 (talk) 00:08, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

I'll work on it now. I would think it'll be done by the time you leave! What cruise are you going on?-- Astros4477 (Talk) 19:13, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
MS Oasis of the Seas (Eastern Caribbean)! First cruise I will ever be on :P .--Dom497 (talk) 19:48, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
That'll be awesome! I've been on two, the Carnival Inspiration and the MS Mariner of the Seas. Royal Caribbean is so much better than Carnival. I like to call Carnival the Six Flags of the seas :). I'm actually planning to go on the Oasis of the Seas next year so tell me how it was!-- Astros4477 (Talk) 20:04, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
Well if your going on oasis, be prepared to be hearing ca ching, ca ching, and ca ching (supposed to sound like a cash register opening :p ) a lot. Nothing is free on that ship but lemonade (yup, thats right, you want water, you got to pay for it). Anyway, at least with RC you have a lessser chance of getting stranded in the middle of the ocean or end of having the ship on it's side... Cav's sorting

Hey, I think it's because you've included a symbol in the "1st" cells which causes it to sort out of numerical order. My suggestion is to not have the text bold, nor the cell shaded blue nor have the symbol because you already have that blue and symbol in the league cell, that should be enough to denote the fact they won the league. Haha well roller coasters are very fun! The lines can suck but once you become familiar with amusement parks, you know the days to go and not go and the order in which you do the rides to avoid the longest lines. I've heard many times people say that it's pointless to wait 2 hours for a 2 minute ride. Anyway, thanks for the peer review! This is going to be my first FAC so I hope it goes well. I'll be glad to review your list!-- Astros4477 (Talk) 17:59, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

Indians TV

I re-worded the Indians TV section, as because Fox now owns STO and the Indians rights, they will be producing the games, and WKYC will merely be simulcasting.

When STO was it's own entity owned by the Tribe, they had a deal with Ch. 3 where 3 would provide the production facilities, technical know-how, cameramen and whatnot. And in return, STO threw 20 games a year WKYC's way.

Now that Fox owns STO, Fox is handling all of that themselves, and WKYC is merely simulcasting 4 games.

This is like the deal FS Ohio has for Cavs games on WUAB 43, where 43 is merely piggybacking off FSO's coverage in simulcasting 5 games a year.

Vjmlhds 13:36, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the clarification. I knew Fox bought STO but I didn't know how the simulcasting would work now.-- Astros4477 (Talk) 19:13, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

List of roller coaster rankings

Do you know why the list uses italics for roller coaster names? Articles do not, and I thought it was mentioned in another discussion that the WikiProject would need to address the issue if we were going to start using them. Just curious, thanks. --GoneIn60 (talk) 17:07, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

They were italics from the beginning and I guess nobody thought it was worth going through and removing all of them. It would be ideal to remove the italics because the rest of the WP doesn't use them, atleast not anymore.-- Astros4477 (Talk) 19:56, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

If you have the time...

I know this is very off topic, but my FLC is stalling Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of people on United States banknotes/archive1. If you have the chance, some kind of review would be helpful. Either way, I enjoyed your list and gave my support.--Godot13 (talk) 17:41, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Thank you! I appreciate your comments. All but one have been addressed and/or fixed. The remaining one is difficult (reducing the info in the title/comments section) because what is currently there is the most skeletal look at what made these people worthy/qualified to be selected to be on U.S. Currency. I will work on it... Again, thanks for reviewing something outside your area... --Godot13 (talk) 06:07, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Jonathan, there is a box under the signature field in your preferences labeled Treat the above as wiki markup. Make sure that box is checked. Also, the signature provided by Astros has a couple of syntax errors; the corrected version is this:
<span style="text-shadow:grey 0.4em 0.4em 0.5em"> <font color="blue">Roller Coaster Rider</font> <font color="black">(Jonathan)</font> (<font color="darkblue">talk</font>)</span>
which produces Roller Coaster Rider (Jonathan) (talk). However, this uses 271 characters of code, which violates the limit of 255 characters prescribed by WP:SIG#Length. This is the downside of having such a long username. You will have to pick something from this signature to drop; the easiest would probably be the color for the talk page link (that is barely noticeable anyway), which brings it down to 241:
<span style="text-shadow:grey 0.4em 0.4em 0.5em"> <font color="blue">Roller Coaster Rider</font> <font color="black">(Jonathan)</font> (talk)</span>
which produces Roller Coaster Rider (Jonathan) (talk). Does that help? jcgoble3 (talk) 17:24, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Recently, I noticed another editor point out that successive links are discouraged per WP:LINKSTYLE, meaning we shouldn't place links right next to each other. That was news to me too, so I've been going through a number of articles and removing the unnecessary ones. In the case of Firehawk, "steel" isn't really necessary anyway in the opening line, since all "flying roller coasters" are steel!  :) --GoneIn60 (talk) 22:15, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

I understand that, I just feel that not everybody will know it's steel. We have to treat as if the readers don't know anything about the subject.-- Astros4477 (Talk) 23:56, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
Yes, that's true. However, it's already in the infobox and linked there. If you are set on keeping it in the opening line, then we should unlink it or change the phrasing so that the link to "flying roller coaster" isn't sitting right next to it. --GoneIn60 (talk) 07:30, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

Cotton Bowl Classic

"The Cotton Bowl is one of only six sites under consideration for the national title game on Jan. 12, 2015 that will crown the champion of the Football Bowl Subdivision's first playoff."

List of former Kennywood attractions

I created the page and I think it should be List of Defunct Kennywood Attractions. Former is kind of wrong because the ride is former. Gather Together FAC

Hey Astros, I see that your roller coaster is very close to passing to FA. Congrats! I have one there, too, but it's dangerously close to failing due to lack of support. Would you mind going over there [5] and taking a look. I appreciate it. The delegates may be waiting for one more support for your article, so I recommend asking one more editor to weigh in for you. Shoot the Rapids

not sure how to edit on here or about the incident post regarding cedar point's shoot the rapids... there were 8 passengers ( not loading row 3...) the boat got to the top of the first( the bigger) lift hill there were then two clicks ( said from a passenger) when there is usually only one and then the boat started to go backwards, I at this point was an eye witness watching the boat go back down the lift hill, very fast... it hit the concrete bend I'm the flume which cracked and shattered and from there the boat flipped upside down. there were screams of terror and in a heart beat there were so many of us ( adult guests) jumping over two fences, running across the railroad tracks and jumping into the water to try to flip the boat back over... we were so worried somebody was going to drown. we got everybody out of the boat. there were 5 adults and the children ( all under 10) one of the adults had disabilities and the another one had a head injury and was brought to the hospital. besides being very shaken everybody will be able to be with their families tonight.

Hey, I've always gone by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:ELMAYBE#Links_to_be_considered when cleaning up and updating external links. Since a review is someone's opinion, I don't see it as being encyclopedic to refer readers to the site, as it will have a bias slant. Whereas it can be used within the article to support claims for or against the popularity or critical acclaim of a ride. FirstDrop87 (talk) 00:56, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Edit-a-thon for Ramona Park

Hello -

I am working with the East Grand Rapids MI Public Library as they embark on a GLAM project. I'm a mid-newbie, which is why I'm reaching out....

East Grand Rapids was the home to Ramona Park and to the Jack Rabbit Derby Racer [6]. As a kick-off project they would like to expand Ramona Park during an edit-a-thon. The Library is home to a local history room - a room filled to the ceiling with memorabilia, photos and artifacts from Ramona Park.

The plan is to upload much of this material via Commons (hopefully before the edit-a-thon on October 19, 2013 - coincidentally during Wikipedia Loves Libraries month).

One problem - there are few locally evident Wikipedia editors to actually show up at the library for an edit-a-thon.

Do you think if we set up a Google hangout, you might be interested enough to remote in? There is a possibility of a cool tee-shirt [7] donated by the library for some, too!

I might be able to provide you/this project with a preview of the historical materials - it seems to me there might be more than one article to create.

Also I've come up with a DYK candidate: Did you know that President Gerald Ford worked at Ramona Park, home to one of three derby racers in the US? (The Ford part is true, not quite sure of the derby racer stat, though!)

Thanks for your consideration, Bdcousineau (talk) 23:59, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

I think this sentence in the Mean Streak article is incorrect "With a duration of 3 minutes and 13 seconds, the Mean Streak had the longest ride time of any roller coaster in the park until 2000." I believe the Mean Streak still has the longest ride time of any roller coaster in the park.VX1NG (talk) 18:21, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

Potential sockpuppet of Levineps

Recently, User:Oriole85 (contribs) has been sporadically popping up on my watchlist for category-related changes. A lot of new users do that, so it wasn't a particularly noteworthy thing for me. But then he kept showing up with a higher frequency, oftentimes making (what I thought to be) completely unnecessary over-categorizations to articles. I've been on Wikipedia long enough to know that User:Levineps (contribs) is one of the most notorious over-categorizers we've ever seen (and has the community sanctions, block records, and bans to show for it). So, I did about two minutes' worth of research and discovered that Oriole85's account was created / his edits began on November 5, 2013. When was the last edit by Levineps? November 4, 2013. That is not a coincidence IMO. I don't have (a) the time right now, nor (b) the motivation to formally open an SPI, but I'm hoping that one of the many people I'm notifying about this does. If you're wondering why you're being pinged about this, it's because I saw where you were one of the people who has left messages on Levineps' talk page at some point regarding his inappropriate editing. So now, in addition to all of the aforementioned issues with Levineps, it looks like a probably sockpuppet to throw into the mix. Jrcla2 (talk) 05:29, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Amusement Parks Article Clean-Up

Recently, an issue has been brought up regarding the notability of many articles within WikiProject Amusement Parks. As a result, a page has been created regarding this issue as well as a possible solution (which will be on-going). In a nut-shell, certain articles will be picked to be reviewed in each stage and the WikiProject members (you) will decide if the article should be deleted or kept based on Wikipedia's notability guidelines.

I hoping this will work and if it doesn't, oh well...I tried.

Main Page appearance: Millennium Force

This is a note to let the main editors of Millennium Force know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on May 13, 2014. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at present, please ask Bencherlite (talk · contribs). You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/May 13, 2014. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Millennium Force

Millennium Force is a steel roller coaster at Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio, United States. Completed in 2000, it has broken and helped to break ten world records. It was also the first Giga Coaster (any complete circuit roller coaster that exceeds 300 feet (91 m) in height) in the world. It was briefly the tallest and fastest complete circuit roller coaster in the world, before being surpassed by Steel Dragon 2000 in August 2000. The ride is also the second-longest roller coaster in North America after The Beast at Kings Island, and was the first roller coaster to use a cable lift system, rather than a traditional chain lift. The coaster has a 310 ft (94 m), 45 degree inclined lift hill with a 300 ft (91 m) drop, and features two tunnels, three overbanked turns, and four hills. It has a top speed of about 93 mph (150 km/h). Since 2001, Millennium Force has been voted the number one steel roller coaster in the world eight times in Amusement Today's Golden Ticket Awards, and has never been ranked lower than number two. Although it is no longer the tallest or fastest roller coaster at Cedar Point, it is still one of the tallest and fastest in the world. (Full article...)

You (and your talk-page stalkers) may also be interested to hear that there have been some changes at the TFA requests page recently. Nominators no longer need to calculate how many "points" an article has, the instructions have been simplified, and there's a new nomination system using templates based on those used for DYK suggestions. Please consider nominating another article, or commenting on an existing nomination, and leaving some feedback on your experience. Thank you. UcuchaBot (talk) 23:01, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

Roller coaster rankings

I know you haven't been around much lately, but when you get a chance next time you're on, can you look at the rankings page? An IP was attempting to add a "Tallest wooden roller coasters" section, which seems fine to me, but maybe you had a reason for not including one before. I just found it strange it wasn't already on there and figured there was a reason. --GoneIn60 (talk) 17:18, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Hey @GoneIn60:! I took a look at the page and it was included. I looked back and it was removed nearly 5 months ago. I'm going to fix it up now. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.-- Astros4477 (Talk) 03:38, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

They should really ban IPs from editing, or at least make it harder for them to vandalize. I swear I spend at least 3/4 of my time on Wikipedia reverting that crap! Thanks for looking into this one. --GoneIn60 (talk) 13:23, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

Pipe Scream

I held off reverting that IP's edit, because there are articles out there that state Cedar Point is marketing Pipe Scream as their 17th roller coaster. It's even listed that way on their site. I understand RCDB doesn't register it as such, but it's probably going to be a topic of debate at some point. What are your thoughts? --GoneIn60 (talk) 20:46, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

I do not think it's a roller coaster and I do not think it should be listed as one on Wikipedia. Cedar Point often uses terms such as Maverick being a "terra" coaster and they just do this for marketing. I think Cedar Point is just doing this for marketing as well. I tend to agree. I was just curious about your point of view. Thanks! --GoneIn60 (talk) 18:01, 10 July 2014 (UTC)

@Astros4477: Because this article is mainly about the Big Three during the era they played together for the Miami Heat, not about the three players themselves and your edit made the article look like it was about the three player themselves Michiganwolverines2014 (talk) 14:36, 19 July 2014 (UTC)Michiganwolverines2014 (Talk)

Good to see you back! I know you're not active on here much anymore, but it's a big relief when you are! Thanks for your recent edits... --GoneIn60 (talk) 23:55, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Ohio Wikimedians User Group - Invitation

Hi Astros4477,

I'm Kevin, one of the founding members of the Ohio Wikimedians User Group. Created in July 2016, we're working to be a central group of Ohio Wikimedians who organize and support offline events, promote the Wikimedia movement in Ohio, build connections throughout our state, and above all, support each other. We already have a handful of members and have worked to support multiple events, including Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States and several Art+Feminism edit-a-thons at universities throughout Ohio.

I wanted to reach out to you and invite you to join the Ohio Wikimedians User Group. Being a part of the user group will allow easy communication between active Ohio editors, notifications of upcoming events in the Ohio area, and, if you're interested, the opportunity to help organize events such as edit-a-thons or workshops. Some notes:

 • All members receive a monthly newsletter with recent happenings, upcoming events, and more. Check out our April newsletter here.
 • This Thursday at 8:30 EST, we're having our first online meeting. Check out our meeting page here for more details, an agenda, and a section to sign up if you'd like to join us. Topics will include introductions and brainstorming for future projects.

Right now we have a Wikipedia Takes Columbus photo event going on, a Wiknic coming up this summer, and opportunities to attend the upcoming Ohio Private Academic Libraries Conference. If you're interested in joining us, feel free to add your name here - and feel free to reach out to me (or post on the user group's talk page) with questions or discussions. Thanks! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 07:29, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

Disneyland Railroad featured article nomination

The Disneyland Railroad article is currently being nominated to become a featured article here: Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Disneyland Railroad/archive1. It has passed specialized reviews for its prose, images, and sources, but it still needs a few people to chime and say they support the nomination on the review page to wrap things up. Your input on that page will be very helpful. Jackdude101 (Talk) 20:07, 1 July 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Astros4477. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "New Carowinds roller coaster".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the db-afc, db-draft, or db-g13 code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. DannyS712 (talk) 20:03, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

Notice

The file File:SouthPark Mall Strongsville logo.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused logo with no article used, it's also can't move to commons because of an unused logo will be deleted as of out of project scope.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 2019 US Banknote Contest

US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
