Danny "Dan" Crawford

Hi. Want to personally thank you for closing the AFD. I have found editors sometimes like to dig their feet in on issues, which can be a bit of a time sink for everyone. I am personally not that interested in Basketball (beyond being a general sports fan). One of my main focuses here is on referees and other officials. I have also been critical in the past of SNGs, but one thing they are good for is reducing the build up of afds that are likely to end in keep. You seem to be actively involved in the Basketball articles so was wondering if you think it is worth trying to add referees to WP:NBASKETBALL. I was thinking it could be a relatively high threshold (like refereed a NBA finals game). AIRcorn (talk) 06:37, 22 June 2017 (UTC)

@Aircorn: All's well that ends well. I don't know enough about referees and their coverage to have an idea on what is a fair SNG threshold. I was actually going to suggest at the AfD that the Dan Crawford article be moved to "Danny Crawford" as my search of "Dan Crawford referee" brought up mostly links mentioning "Danny Crawford". DaHuzyBru (talk) 06:24, 22 June 2017 (UTC)

Protect Kings rookie pages?

There is a publicity photo from the Kings where their four rookies - Fox, Jackson, Giles and Mason III - holding up jerseys with their draft positions on them (5, 15,20,34 respectively). A number of IPs keep adding these as uniform numbers when I think it is HIGHLY unlikely that this will be the case. Can you protect them? Thanks! Rikster2 (talk) 14:30, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

Wkoppel sock

User:Grey_Jackal is a recently-created account with an already prolific edit history. It's clearly another sock of User:Wkoppel, whom you blocked a couple of years back for unsourced and sometimes incorrect edits, and refusal to discuss the issue. @JohnInDC: Likely, though I will say that I've run across a few editors (not socks) since that also religiously leave edit summaries of the form "I did XYZ". Socking aside, are they still being disruptive? I vaguely remember you or someone else saying before that this editor was mostly productive. I haven't looked closely, but no, they aren't being disruptive, and agree that (in the main) they are productive - if rarely sourced. I confess to being frustrated by his repeated and persistent block evasion, but at least this way we know where he is, and I would be content to leave things as they are for now and return to you if problematic edits resume. Dawg has been patiently following Jackal around and fixing his mistakes, which if they are not multiplying, are certainly not abating. And, just like the (presumptive) master Wkoppel, he's completely uncommunicative. I don't see any difference at all between the behavior of the editor under this name, and the behavior that got him indef blocked in the first place. @Crash Underride: The arrest seems dubious since it's a primary source, and check out the disclaimers on that website. I erred on the side of privacy and removed it. @Crash Underride: Also per WP:BLPKIND, be careful about characterizing edits to remove negative info by people related to the subject as "vandalism". Not that it has to be removed, but people understandably don't like seeing negative information, but could honestly might not be familiar with all the nuances of how WP works. Uncommon baseball infobox stats

I've noticed some nonstandard stats have been creeping into baseball infoboxes. Particularly runs and on-base percentage on Mike Trout and Aaron Judge. Should this be nipped in the bud? Lizard (talk) 00:03, 4 August 2017 (UTC)

@Lizard the Wizard: Those stats are not mentioned in Wikipedia:WikiProject Baseball/Player style advice. It seems like your options are to 1) make a bold edit, 2) see if consensus has changed at WT:BASEBALL, or 3) do nothing.—Bagumba (talk) 10:56, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

Page moves

Hey - I hate to ask because it feels like I should be able to do these myself, but could you move two pages? One is to move Edrice Adebayo to Bam Adebayo. His nickname is clearly his COMMONNAME. The other is Shawn William Campbell, which should be moved to Shawn Campbell (basketball) - he did not play using his middle name, it feels like this was named as such to avoid a DAB. NEED HELP please

Hello my friend ... I am editor on Arabic wiki and French and sometimes a bit in English .. today I really have a problem with two pages on wikipedia English Osama Tolba and Eslam Magdy... These people have written on them only to advertise and make talk about them ... we don't even know them in the Arab world and even the sources it's they who wrote them ... On Arabic wiki they have been deleted but on wiki english .. I don't know what they expect .. I however report their deletions ... but the individuals having written the articles deletes my report what do you can help me ???? Format of LaVar Ball

Hello, as someone who has edited the LaVar Ball page in the past, I thought you may have an opinion on how exactly to format the "in the media" section. @TempleM: I'm not sure "exactly" how to format it. However, I think it's good that you're attempting to organize it, as opposed to have it all be one giant list of chronological events. However, I'd try to avoid the play-by-play minutiae as much as possible, unless a specific set of events are frequently brought up weeks or months later (e.g. the Jordan claim, the $495 shoes, etc). BBB specific stuff can be placed in the company's article, summarizing only the key points in the bio. For the most part, I think too many verbatim quotes get tedious to read also. Per WP:CRITS, we should also try to minimize using the word controversy unless absolutely necessary.—Bagumba (talk) 17:18, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

@WikiOriginal-9: It appears that 50.200.200.195 might be confused that I changed the content of the article, when I was merely reverting to the version that existed before it was blanked. It seems that your edit on 4 September introduced major changes which you explained in the edit summary as "article was in poor shape, last stable version". However, that also introduced the IPs concern that it is now ambiguous whether Uwaezuoke is American or not. Question

Hi Bagumba,

2+ years ago, I nominated this list at FLC. Its main reason for failure was failing WP:LISTN as a result of the 300 SB cutoff. Since the cutoff no longer exits, how is WP:LISTN proven? I took a look at List of Major League Baseball career on-base percentage leaders as an example and just couldn't figure it out. Any advice on how to make round #3 a potential success for the list if I am to renominate in the near future? Sportsguy17 (T • C) 00:43, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

@Sportsguy17: Regarding the cutoff for the OBP list, it appears to have been .400 when it was approved for FA, but it was expanded to top-100 recently. Sorry, I don't have any ideas on what a notable grouping might be for SBs. It's possible the only alternative to is convince everyone that top-100 is justified here, or just accept this will never gain FL status.—Bagumba (talk) 07:41, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
What I've found so far is that the MLB website uses top-50 as the cutoff, but beyond that, no cutoffs of note are used in non-Sports Reference sites. I am seeing the 500 stolen base milestone mentioned across the board by many news sites, including CBS and NY Daily Times. Is it worth giving that a shot? I think the sources I mentioned satisfy WP:LISTN, and that seems like a fair cutoff seeing that 500 is already mentioned in the list anyways. Sportsguy17 (T • C) 13:51, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
@Sportsguy17: Just make sure it satisfies my comment from the last FLC: "WP:LISTN advises that the grouping should be 'discussed as a group or set by independent reliable sources ...'. I don't see the group discussed in those links, just the individual player reaching a round number of" 500. On second thought, I'm re-abandoning this list, especially as long as people are allowed to mindlessly revert to their preferred versions just because they think it "looks nicer". Lists like this and arguments that have culminated on it will be the death of WP:BASEBALL. In the meantime, you can find me trying to promote good and featured content elsewhere. @Sportsguy17: Yes, this is a collaborative site, for better or for worse. Don't let this particular list get you too discouraged; others have more obviously notable inclusion criteria. I'm admittedly pretty picky on the rare occasions I accept invitations to do reviews. Well, I do know of lists that haven't been promoted yet, such as the 20–20–20 club. Pretty specific notability and inclusion criteria with that one, so I may decide to get it ready for FLC sometime in the future. And there lies the problem with lists like those. The 20-20-20 list is a very well-written list, but it appears to have failed all because there aren't "enough entries", which imo is just ludicrous. NFL list standardization

I've moved the career leader list pages and begun reworking them to be less cluttersome. List of National Football League career rushing yards leaders looks much cleaner now than it did before, especially with the huge HOF column gone. Lizard (talk) 14:57, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

Your addition to the Bruce Maxwell page was incredibly biased. Restoring the text "He made his MLB debut in 2016, became the first baseball player to turn his back on the United States by kneeling during the national anthem" is a textbook definition of bias. @Kevin Lyda: Thanks for bringing your concerns to me. I had reverted the edit on my phone, thinking "keel" was meant as vandalism that he fell or fainted. See my edit summary, "rvv", showing my intention to revert vandalism. Afterwards, I realized the previous version had NPOV issues, and "keel" could have just been a typo. By the time I corrected it, there was an edit conflict since someone else beat me to. I semiprotected the page in light of the BLP concerns raised by the edits from non-autoconfirmed editors. Hey. You've had dealings with this sockpuppet investigation in the past. I think this user is a new sockpuppet. They have similar niche dealings with China and Australian NBL, and always introduce overlinking and unnecessary white space. Here's a classic "Source" example as well from July 8, 2016. 2016–17 New Mexico State Aggies women's basketball team

Any way you can restore 2016–17 New Mexico State Aggies women's basketball team, which you deleted in April and was previously deleted by another admin in March? The page is clearly notable - they made the NCAA tournament and almost beat a #2 seed. It's frankly embarrassing to have that glaring red link there and would be extremely burdensome to redo from scratch. And I can't see the edit history for either version, but I find it hard to believe there were no other editors at all the whole season. Maybe the second version, which was only up a month, but not the first version. Now, you didn't delete the first version, but you're the most recent deleting admin, so I'll reach out to you. I can't see how many other Qunnipiac seasons have articles, but if it's more than one or two, could you please restore the navbox? If it's just one or two, obviously the navbox shouldn't exist, but rather paradoxically, without the navbox, I can't see if it should exist in the first place. I'm wary to do anything as nobody has commented on the related thread at WT:NBA. I've place a note at Talk:Anderson_Varejão#NBA_champion_in_infobox pointing to the general discussion. List of Major League Baseball All-Star players

Hi Bagumba -

I noticed your reply to this merger proposal about possibly creating a list of MLB All-Star players. I think that's a great idea and I've started messing around with a draft in my sandbox. I was wondering if you had any thoughts on how to format this. Since AS rosters are so large and date back to the 1930s, we are going to end up with one gigantic list. Is there a better layout than just an A-to-Z list of each player selected? I don't mind doing the work, but I want to make sure that the list ends up being meaningful.

I looked at List of NBA All-Stars and some other sports lists, but this one seems like it would be unique because of its sheer size. List of Major League Baseball managers is interesting to me as far as how they cover the topic without listing every manager in baseball history. I just don't know quite how I would group All-Stars together - maybe by decade or by team would work. If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them. Thanks! See List of players selected to the Pro Bowl for a comparably gigantic list. Although I can't say I agree with the layout, or even the existence of the article at all. A list with this many entries is better suited as a category. But if one must exist, I'd favor listing by year rather by name. That's how I did List of unanimous All-Americans in college football, although a list of MLB All-Stars would be much larger and contain more intricate detail so this way might not be viable. @EricEnfermero: FWIW regarding size, WP:SAL says: "These should only be created if a complete list is reasonably short (less than 32K) and could be useful (e.g., for navigation) or interesting to readers." HOFers in championship infoboxes

What say you about how each of the 3 major NA sports projects lists HOF players in championship infoboxes? E.g. 1980 NBA Finals, Super Bowl XI, 1930 World Series. To me, that's definitely not something I'd consider to be of utmost importance. And in each of those examples the list of HOFers takes up more room than anything else in the infobox. I think we should trim them out; I'll start with trying to get consensus for it on WP:NFL and go from there. Ideally (hopefully) all 3 projects can agree one way or the other. NBA All-Defensive Team Most Selections Table

I recently updated the said table to show the players with the most selections overall first and was wondering if the table should be updated to give more importance to players with more overall selections than the current minimum of four first-team selections. I was thinking it could be changed to show players with at least 5 total All-Defensive team selections, since the table does say "Most Selections". @Nintendoswitchfan: Personally, I always like smaller lists as they make it more discriminate, as opposed to some fanboy list of arbitrary length that borders on WP:NOTSTATS. I guess top 10 is smaller than you would like? If the list is around 20 or so, I guess it's not too bad either. I know you posted this at WT:NBA before. Note that you can always choose to proceed based on WP:SILENCE. I usually add a note about WP:SILENCE and a link to relevant discussion in the edit summary. Wikipedia is not in a hurry to break news, so we generally just wait the few hours or days for the inevitable official announcement. Also, cite your sources (in the edit summary at the very least) for anything that could be challenged, which typically applies to news like firings and signings. Portals

Regarding this; I've wondered before about the value in including these general-topic portal links on pages. And to be honest I'm not sure how much value "portals" as a whole add to the encyclopedia, but anyway. I can see maybe adding these on broad topic articles, like the main NBA page or NBA draft. May I ask your input on a matter. User:Drew1830 has been inserting coaching and support staff sections into all Miami season articles, which by itself is fine. However, his edits are problematic in that (i) he has been formatting these things in ways that are incorrect (overcapitalization, misplacement, lack of citations), (ii) when I tried to clean up his work, he immediately reverted, (iii) when I asked him to stop and discuss, he refused and continued reverting, and (iv) he takes the position that the articles are "his work" and that nobody should change them without first discussing with him. @Ms. Edney: Thanks for discussing your concerns here. Regarding Mr. Edney's children, I had made these changes last night regarding his family based on reliable sources I was able to find, and the 3 children are now mentioned.
Wikipedia requires that all content be verifiable based on published reliable sources. This guards against incorrect information or damaging rumors. However, biographies will seem out of date to the subject if there are not sources that can reflect a recent update in their life. This appears to be the case with mention of your marriage. Per the Wikipedia guideline at WP:AUTOPROB: ""If Wikipedia has an article about you, we want it to be accurate, fair, balanced and neutral – to accurately reflect the sourced, cited opinions of reliable sources. If you believe reliable sources exist which will make the article more balanced, you can help by pointing other editors to such sources." Do you know of a published source that we can cite on Wikipedia? I tried looking at Mr. Edney's bio on UCLABruins.com, but there is nothing on his family. One option you might pursue is to have the UCLA Athletic Department update his bio if you wish the information to be public.
Regarding the current photo, these are generally photos taken by contributors in public places, who then agree to release the photo for free public use. There are some others here. Mr. Edney is definitely welcome to contribute a picture. With a few exceptions, the person who contributes a photo must be the one who took the picture and must be willing to release copyrights under "Creative Commons, attribution, share-alike", meaning the public is given permission to use and modify the image freely as long as the original author is attributed. You can refer to Wikipedia:A picture of you for details on how to contribute a photo.

Protecting due to unsourced edits to BLP. Otherwise, note that actual honors that warrant being listed is a content dispute, and would not generally be semi-protected. Discussion is more appropriate. It's a technicality, but Wikipedia:WikiProject_National_Basketball_Association/Style_advice#Infobox_highlights that you cited is for the NBA, whereas Gaze's honors was for the NBL. I understand it's for the NBA, but can't it also represent basketball in general i.e. the types of honors that are listed in an infobox, NBA or not? The person adding them is clearly unfamiliar with infobox standards – I just thought directing them to a guideline of such could give them some clarity. There is no such NBL guidelines, but the standard for the NBL should not be far off the NBA standard i.e. no "all time" additions, no Olympic notes etc. Thanks for the consideration anyway. Matthews family

I want to create an article for the Matthews football family, (1) because it's certainly notable and (2) to trim this section on every family member's article. Is Matthews family good or should it be disambiguated in any way? Like "Matthews football family" or "Matthews family (American football)." this is not pointed to everyone there, but the great majority there at wiki are so gutless. you guys are cowards. you pawn yourself off as being unbiased but you clearly do not give alternative medicine any reasonable chance. Do you know who Albert Schweitzer was? How can you not put stock in what he has said about Max Gerson? I have a friend who was given 12 months to live with pancreatic cancer. this was 37 months ago. He is on the Gerson diet. His doctors are very surprised, but they have zero interest in finding out why. They call him their "oddball" case. Really?? I am sure you and everybody and wikipedia have loved ones dying of cancer. 99% of our culture believes this is quackery. Trust me, I have seen the other side to this. It has worked. In more than just the case I cited above

What is truly frustrating is that you do not even acknwoledge that people can be helped by this. Just remember that as long as our culture collectively refutes this, many loved ones will die because they believe what the culture believes (unless somehow they are strong enough to see the truth here).

You can take the easy way out now by burying your head and saying what everyone is saying; that this is quackary. But it isn't. The ironic thing of all of this is that the premise of this is basic science, something the multi billion dollar medical establishment refuses to look at. please respond so that I know you got this. I wont bother you again. thanks for listening.
