[edit]I'd like to know why you did this: [1]. I know you've explained it in the edit summary, but I'm not quite sure I follow your motives. The source is reliable, and there's nothing wrong with this information being included - and the admin I asked about it said the same. Also, they noted that this, in addition to your editing history, suggests you may have a WP:COI. I'm not here to get you in trouble; I'm here to help, and to see why you removed the above information. A note: I removed the information from the lead after an IP had added it (since it was inappropriate for the lead, particularly where it had been positioned, and it was also unsourced.) Tesla
[edit]Was a little bit worried that it might end up replaced in the article with the nicer-composed lower resolution one. But it's a decent choice for a simple restoration. Do you have Skype? I can screenshare and walk you through some of the basic ideas using the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP). Adam Cuerden (talk) 11:19, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
- Adam, looking at Tesla's LOC image [2] more carefully at 100%, I am having serious doubt about restoring it. It has lots of dust (coat and hair areas) some of which is hard to discern, and it has less detail than this image [3] (for example in hair area). I am sending you a wiki-email about Skype and GIMP. Bammesk (talk) 02:43, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
- Hm. Actually, I think we can do better than any option so far. I've done a google image search for Nikola Tesla, clicked on search options, said it needed to be larger than 4 Megapixels.... and a high-res copy of the original image popped right out. Adam Cuerden (talk) 10:00, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
- Nice. I am comparing this with the 29 November 2009 version enlarged 4x sinc. The 2009 version covers slightly more area in the periphery and seems to have more detail in some places, but its levels are clipped off at the high end. Tradeoff! Bammesk (talk) 15:56, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

[edit]I couldn't figure out how to make it an alternate image on the same page as the original file. Atsme📞📧 23:11, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
- @Atsme: Thanks for improving the image. I think you did the upload right. My reading of the rule is: "upload as an overwrite when the changes are minor" and "upload as a separate file when the changes are major, or controversial, or when uncertain". In cases like this, after uploading a derivative (modified) file, it helps to add the template {{RetouchedPicture}} to list the modifications. For example, I did it on this file: [4]. I like the Owl image, too bad it wasn't a better camera. Bammesk (talk) 03:46, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi Bammesk, regarding our recent edits to the Vulfpeck article, I think it is important to qualify "German varsion" in this context. (I am in Australia) I used the word "imaginary" deliberately. The band are American not German, they do not play music composed by Germans, so the reference to German needs to be clear in the context that the "German" aspect of the band, their sound and/or conception, was a projection, an imagined sound, and/or a planning concept. I also wrote "US session musicians" deliberately in this context. Of course if one follows the hotlinks to Funk Brothers et al, one finds they are US groups; however, perhaps some readers would not know this US history, and it would be better to be clear. I would not usually indicate in my editing that the Funk Brothers are from the US, but in the context of the "German version" I think it draws a clearer picture of the initial concept of the band: US musicians making a sound like the US Funk Brothers, et al, but with an imagined or projected "German" slant. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Uptown Rulers-The Meters live on the Queen Mary-album-cover.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Uptown Rulers-The Meters live on the Queen Mary-album-cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 20:50, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

- As file creator I really prefer the default (upload wizard's automated template placement), please discuss at: WP:MCQ#NFCCs not applicable? Bammesk (talk) 01:40, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
- The default makes all wizard-assisted uploads look similar and uniform, plus it eliminates the added work of uploading with the wizard first and then replacing the template manually in each instance. Bammesk (talk) 01:54, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

Math check...
[edit]Hi Bammesk- I appreciate your patience, please bear with me for one moment.
IF a (raw image) span of 0,72 miles wide (3802 feet or 45,624 inches) = 28.96 inches (by pixel count)
THEN does 45,624/28.96 = X/0.683 (using the highest point measured) or 28.96X = 45,624*0.683
WHERE X = 1,076 inches or 89.6 feet?
If my math is wrong I would rather spare myself the embarrassment of putting it in the FP nomination... Many thanks!--Godot13 (talk) 21:57, 16 October 2016 (UTC)

Editing others' comments
[edit]reverting back to my earlier posts, I object to others modifying my posts, per WP:TPOC "you should not edit or delete the comments of other editors without their permission" and "you should stop if there is any objection"
You're no good at wikilawyering, WP:TPOC#Editing others' comments has this:
Sectioning: If a thread has developed new subjects, it may be desirable to split it into separate discussions with their own headings or subheadings. When a topic is split into two topics, rather than sub-sectioned, it is often useful for there to be a link from the new topic to the original and vice versa. A common way of doing this is noting the change at the [then-]end of the original thread, and adding an unobtrusive note under the new heading, e.g.,
:<small>This topic was split off from [[#FOOBAR]], above.</small>
. Some reformatting may be necessary to maintain the sense of the discussion to date and to preserve attribution. It is essential that splitting does not inadvertently alter the meaning of any comments. Very long discussions may also be divided into sub-sections.
That's what I did. And I wouldn't have moved your comments if I had known you'd object to that. I just made sure you'd have your vote in the voting section. Alexis Jazz (talk) 04:37, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
The Saturn FPC
[edit]- is now in highest possible jpeg quality, so you might reconsider your vote. --Janke | Talk 08:16, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
The image added to the Cassini-Huygens article on September 12, 2018, by Bammesk is from 2004. It is described in a press release as the highest resolution ever, but that press release is dated February 24, 2005. I'm almost certain higher resolution images were taken in the 12 subsequent years Cassini was in orbit around Saturn. I've emailed someone who ought to know about the details. In addition, the image added is a thumbnail at about 1/15th the resolution of the actual 2004 image. If we want to put in the "highest resolution" image, we ought to figure out which one (from the full 13 years at Saturn) it was and somehow show it at full resolution (thumbnail of the whole thing and a postage stamp at full resolution?) Fcrary (talk) 04:10, 15 September 2018 (UTC)
- I'm with Fcrary here: that particular mosaic is from early in the mission and there were definitely higher pixel count images later on (we also have a different version of the same photo on wikimedia commons). Here's one example, but I'm pretty sure there are others. You also have to be careful using the word "resolution": this image is "higher resolution" in that it captures details at a smaller scale, but it 1. isn't of the whole planet, and 2. has fewer total pixels. Note that they didn't use the word "resolution" in the original press release. - Parejkoj (talk) 17:05, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

- User:RoySmith, yes we are looking at the same source. I just don't see "Hall of Fame" appearing anywhere on pages 152 to 154. I see it mentioned on one of the blue pages, two pages after page 154, so that would be page 156. Correct me if I am wrong though. Bammesk (talk) 03:25, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- Ah, I understand what you're saying. OK, the section really begins on page 148, which is a report on "Inductees to the NS Scientific Hall of Fame". 148-149 is about Carlyle Smith Beals. 150-151 is about Dr. Constance Ida MacFarlane. And, 152-154 is about our subject. What's on the blue page is just the table of contents of the volume. I suppose it would be correct to cite this as the slug on the top of page 148, i.e. "Proceedings of the Nova Scotian Institute of Science (2010), Volume 45, Part 2, pp 148-154". -- RoySmith (talk) 03:32, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- User:RoySmith, I see what you are saying now. I wasn't seeing all that. You wrote the article, so however you choose to specify it is Ok with me. Cheers. Bammesk (talk) 03:41, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

Could you say there if you'd be alright with promoting this image if the other one is not replaced explicitly? It's kind of in that state where everyone agrees something should happn, but what should isn't clear Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 8.8% of all FPs 21:07, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
- @Adam Cuerden: in this case the answer is no, unless someone can convince me otherwise, because 1- the nom image has more detail/resolution than existing FP, and the two birds have identical features, 2- the existing FP is used in several "island" articles, and the nom image is an acceptable replacement in those articles. Also, the nominator seems to be Ok with a delist and replace. Bammesk (talk) 14:59, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

Frogs FPC
[edit]Since you are the nominator, you might contact those who opposed the photo due to misunderstanding of the shooting conditions, i.e. they thought the frog was artificially posed... --Janke | Talk 17:41, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- Janke, I think Petar and David do follow threads that they participate in. The other two will not change their votes. (Sca's vote is about how it "looks", i.e. the composition). I think it's best to do a renomination at a later time and outline the shooting conditions in the reason section. Thanks for participating in the nom, it's a very interesting photo, Cheers. How about this one? Martinevans123 (talk) 22:11, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- Martinevans123, the license [5] is non-commercial (i.e. commercial use is prohibited), so it can't be used or uploaded to Commons [6]. Also it's too blurry at full size. Bammesk (talk) 03:54, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for clarifying. I didn't realise that Wikipedia was a commercial enterprise. And I'm not sure we ever have the opportunity to use an image such as that "at full size"? Martinevans123 (talk) 07:08, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- Martinevans123, images have to be free for commercial use per this (don't ask me why!), or else there has to be a good enough reason for their use, per this. I don't see this image meeting either requirement. About "blurry", that's just my personal opinion. Cheers. Bammesk (talk) 03:05, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

@Janke: and @Bammesk:, Why are you attacking the featured pictures candidates, I support? ×Elvorixtalk 09:05, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Elvorix:, no one is attacking you nor the FP candidates. As stated in This diff, you had (at the time you voted) less than 100 edits on en-Wiki. Instructions on top of This page, the FPC page, state votes by editors who have less than 100 edits will not be counted, i.e. are invalid. At WP:FPC we struck invalid votes, so potential reviewers would know how many valid support votes there are. The threshold for passing a nomination is 5 valid support votes. Invalid support votes mislead potential reviewers and therefore are routinely struck by any participant. Bammesk (talk) 13:09, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
- Understood. If you had told me instead of crossing it out, we could have avoided any misunderstandings. Thanks. ×Elvorixtalk 18:56, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
