I am wondering why it was accepted for article creation. I am not sure if you are familiar with MOS:TVSPLIT, but it is definitely not enough to split as it is not even between 50kB to 60kB of readable prose or 50 and 60 episodes. There is a general consensus on MOS:TV that anything less than between 50kB to 60kB of readable prose or 50 and 60 episodes are not enough to split. In addition, Wikipedia:Article splitting (television), WP:SPLIT, WP:SUMMARY, WP:SPINOUT, and WP:LENGTH still apply. — YoungForever(talk) 18:12, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

Seeking Input on Original Research Issue

Hello and thanks again for approving my article on The Wharf last year. I hope all is well. At the moment, I'm working on edits to an article that I think has an issue with original research. Before taking it through official channels, I wanted to run a summary of the issue past you, and a handful of other editors I also respect, to check my thinking on this and gauge what consensus might look like.

Here is a summary:

1. A college student conducted research into a major company that uncovered lax security practices that needed to be corrected.
2. The student self-published the research on a blogging platform and got a lot of attention. He also admitted to taking up a short position on the company’s stock and stood to make money proportionally to how much his story could depress the price of the stock.
3. A major business newspaper ran a story on him and described the problems his research revealed about the company.
4. The Wikipedia article about the company has a weighty section that references the student’s self-published story almost exclusively.
5. I’m seeking to build a consensus that: the self-published article is OR and shouldn’t be used as a source. The controversy can and should be mentioned, but should be limited to what reliable sources published about the student’s research.

It seems to me that without relying on the legal teams and journalists behind quality sources, Wikipedia becomes vulnerable to short sellers who smell blood in the water and seek to inflate negative stories, even in the short term, just to boost a short sale.

Given the admission of short selling the stock and the self-published nature of the source, would you agree that the self-published article should be disqualified as a source in favor of the reputable newspaper's version? Hmm... good question. I'd love to see the article in question. Per your scenario, however, I think the coverage of the Major Business Newspaper would trump the self-published blog sources in terms of Reliable sourcing, so you are right there. I don't know that the student's source should be completely deprecated, as it may provide detail or rationale that the major business work does not. However, you are right, we should lean more heavily on the reliable source in this situation. You could try and bring this up to the original research noticeboard as well. The only other thing I would mention (having not done the previous due diligence to re-check your account) is that, since you are paid, you probably have your own conflict of interest in the matter, as I can only assume this question involves one of your past clients. Thanks for the quick reply and insight. The article in question is about a client and I always add a COI tag to the talk page. I've already done so in this case. When I bring this to the talk page I'll reiterate my COI and simply attempt to facilitate a discussion of the situation on the merits alone. Thanks again for the help. Message for BKissin

I am struggling with a page called History of the Jews in Hull. I don't think its my imagination that some character called 

Rocknrollmancer is being not so subtley unpleasant whilst going on about AGF. I thought I swa that he is a Motorhead fan ( a band with a strong link to Nazi memoribilia etc), but I cna't find this text now. Anyway he keeps making changes to do with synagogue and generally not being supportive of me as a newbie. I understand the article needs boiling down, a lot. Other folk seem to be obsessed with chopping around the punctuation and placement of references which mainly has had a negative affect on fluency of the text, perhaps this always happens on wikipedia. However it is becoming hard to continue. Just to report further, as far as I understand it the issue was escalated and a grandmaster editor said the detail was fine just more references needed. I have added a load and also boiled the text down further. I have also looed at Rocknrollmancers talk page (if that is the right term) and see that he is often involved in "edit wars" and in his own words "there are now repeated accusations against me of bite, team tagging, racism, sexism and hate". He continues to needle me and make minor but sensitive changes just to provoke a reaction. It is as if a piece about an old dying Jewish community is just irresistible for him to stick the boot in. Draft:Dahe Township, Gansu

No idea why you accepted Draft:Dahe Township, Gansu. The creator is known for creating very poor village articles which get accepted anyway, for very unclear reasons. Let's look at this one specifically:

  • "Dahe has one primary school in the center of its administrative boundaries." seems unlikely for a 3000km² village, but who knows, it has a source so should be true. Too bad that it is sourced to this, an unreliable source in the first place, and which says nothing about the subject at all.
  • [1] this source is unreliable as hell, completely ununsable source ever for anything
  • [2] looks like a better source in general, but has nothing at all to do with the sentence it supposedly sources
  • "Dahe has also become a disputed mining site"? Doesn't seem to be discussed at all in the source[3]

Then I found a Machayenge article from Emiway on Wiki. When I checked that article, it turned out that it was created by CptViraj. He is also an NPR. When I talked to him about this, he said that he was previously associated with this subject. So now he does not want to make it. Argenton-sur-Creuse railway station

AfC is not cleanup. The article was notable and properly sourced, so it's fine for mainspace. I will find the right tag to fix the infobox. In the future, when I've done translations from other Wikis, I often omit the infobox because it leads to these issues. Something like that can always be added later. Hello Bkissin. Your feedback has been invaluable for me in the process of editing my first article. I researched sourcing and noted that the first citation needs to prove the existence of a film or book, with any other citations perhaps adding tertiary context. So Angela Gabriel's two film appearances and three book authorships have the seller's site noted, as per the "Vendor and e-commerce sources" at the Wikipedia:Reliable sources you directed me to. This verifies that they absolutely exist, and I can see how that is fundamentally important. I left the other citations but was wondering if they are unnecessary/excessive and which of them you would suggest removing. I also removed any information that doesn't contribute toward notability. I know there is only one source, but he is long dead and it is just not possible to find more about him. However, his name is attached to an important equation in mathematical physics and people should at least be able to find out some basic information about him in this context (at least this was my motivation for creating this page). He exists on WP in six other languages (arz,es,fr,pl,pt,ru) demonstrating that other WP projects consider the present information sufficiently sourced! This submission was denied based on professional notability guidelines. This athlete meets guidelines based on his college career press, records, and awards. There is another athlete with the same name who is also in his first year as a professional who has not played in a regular season game yet who has a page approved. The goal of this page is to differentiate the two players since they are both first year pros. The page that was denied is of an athlete who has far more accolades than of the athlete who was approved. Why the inconsistency?

I usually see your work when you are approving drafts and moving them to main space. But I was looking through some AFC categories today and came across this draft and was wondering why you labeled it an attack page or vandalism. It seems like a page a kid would write about themselves but this happens every day on Wikipedia, right? I was surprised to see it labeled so harshly and was wondering if you could fill me in. Thanks! Hey Liz, Unfortunately in the AFC Helper script, there isn't a distinction between the two. I marked that one as vandalism (as I probably would for a kid writing about themselves on a regular day in mainspace) with the hope that it would be speedy'd. Notifying draft creators

Hi, Bkissin,

I also was working through some copyright violation-tagged drafts in CSD categories and noticed that the AFC Helper script wasn't always notifying page creators when there were problems with their drafts. Then looking through your contributions, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason...some editors were notified when a draft was accepted or rejected but most of the time, the editors weren't notified. I've never used this script so is there a box that isn't getting checked or something? I haven't looked at the contributions of other AFC reviewers, it's just that the drafts with copyright problems were ones you had discovered so I was following up on those. Thanks. Liz Read! For example, you not only declined Draft:Revenant (band) as a draft but you also tagged it for speedy deletion. But User:Hankshocklee076 didn't receive notices of either the draft rejection or the deletion tagging. Do you think this is a problem with the script, because the editor should have received notices for both of those acts otherwise they are never informed about what happened to their work and what the problem was. Especially with copyright issues, they really need information about copyright guidelines on Wikipedia or they are likely to repeat these mistakes. Liz Read! Talk! 15:02, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
Hi Liz, the AFC Helper script provides an option to notify the submitter or not (yeah, it's a box that can be checked/unchecked). I largely avoid notifications for a variety of reasons, primarily because many of these drafts are either blatant WP:PAID/WP:AUTO/WP:COI candidates or are cases in which no amount of editing can make it notable, and I would prefer to reduce the amount of hatemail I receive from users with an agenda. I completely realize that this does not WP:AGF, and if you'd prefer I step back from the project I am more than happy to do so. Morale on the project is always low, and burnout/cynicism is frequent. We are just trying to address the backlog as best as we can.


Regarding Copyright violations, I assume that in the past this has been a team effort, with drafts being tagged as G12 and if the user is not notified by the AFC script, then they'll be notified when the article is speedy'd. In many cases with G12 drafts, my lack of notification was an oversight. Bkissin (talk) 01:13, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
I was just reviewing Draft:George_Mossey which you both reviewed and tagged for deletion. But when I went to communicate with the draft editor, User:Georgemossey, you had neither posted a note about your review of the draft or the fact that you tagged the page for deletion. Both should have happened, it's standard practice with other editors who review drafts and tag pages for deletion. This editor was left not knowing what happened to their draft.
If you could use Twinkle when you tag pages and set your Preferences to "Notify page creator", Twinkle will notify the editor for you so that's really easy. Please consider using it and try to communicate with the editors whose drafts you review (whether they are accepted or declined) and especially when you tag a page for deletion. It's a common courtesy to let editors know when their page creations might be deleted and let them know why so that their work can improve. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:46, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

Howdy. I added numerous 2018 sources to the above article, and believe it may now pass GNG. It turns out the 2018 election was a cliff-hanger that AP initially called for Gaynor. He also got some coverage in 2019-2020 for a Republican gerrymandering organization he founded. Yes, it is the same. Releasing music on Apple Music and Spotify does not mean that a person meets Wikipedia's notability criteria for musical artists, putting on local theatre productions and working at a bible camp are not enough to warrant inclusion in WP. Only one of the sources referenced is from a reliable source that is independent of the subject of the article (i.e. not from places he's worked, his social media, etc.) I don't see at this point how he could meet the general notability guidelines, but if you want to try with another reviewer, that's your prerogative. So based on his resume, I can see there are two musicals he has directed that I should be able to find media coverage for, one of which he composed, which to my understanding could Potentially qualify him under criteria for composers and lyricists point no. 2. Draft:1980 Portland State Vikings football team

As the first college team to have substantial success with the run and shoot offense, and with the record-shattering performance by QB Lomax, the team received extensive coverage and pretty clearly meets WP:GNG. This is a lot better Cbl62! I appreciate you putting the time in. Use of reliable newspaper sources was a good touch. I'll go ahead and accept, but as you can see from the rest of this talk page, I rarely (if ever) respond to requests to re-review drafts, especially since several articles similar to this one are resubmitted without improvement. Please look at what Wikipedia:WikiProject College football considers Good/Featured season articles (2009 Alabama Crimson Tide football team, 2005 Texas Longhorns football team, 2007 USC Trojans football team, 1990 Toledo Rockets football team). Obviously we know that a draft isn't going to be complete, but it should be more than one source and a schedule. Yup, it's not that the subjects are not notable, just that that IP just submits with minimum content/sources that do not show notability and just keeps re-submitting with no change. I have no issue with the prior denial. I agree with both of you that the prior draft needed work before being passed into Main Space. I Picked Up a Celebrity on the Street

I am not sure why you declined this submission outright. The sources I used for this article were Han Cinema and Viki.com, on which the series is currently streaming. There is a lot of information as well on My Drama List, but for some reason Wikipedia rejected that reference automatically, even though it is a detailed and reputable site. I also took some information from the Korean page for this Korean show. The series is also listed in the Wikipedia article for its star Sung Hoon, but wouldn’t referring to that article be a case of chasing one’s tail? Rather than simply decline the submission, which you seem to have done extremely quickly, shouldn’t we be having a conversation about it?

Although I have made numerous edits to Wikipedia pages, this is the first time I submitted an article. I hope you will help a first time author get it right.

UPDATE July 1, 2021 PM: I have updated the submission in various ways. First, I have added a reference to the IMDb page. Second, I have added a couple of references to articles on Soompi and the KPop Herald (part of Korea Herald). Much of the information on the page is derived from the Viki page - Viki being the place where the show can be streamed but the synopsis is in my own words. I added a reference to the Wikipedia page for YG Entertainment, the Korean entertainment colossus. That page includes a reference to the show as a work produced by YG's subsidiary YG Studioplex. It is unfortunate that Wikipedia has a not properly explained problem with MyDramaList, because that has the most comprehensive cast listing, and I have always found it to be reliable an comprehensive, but I did use Viki and various other sources to confirm the cast listing, particularly the leads and main supporting actors.

Three Technical Drafts

Thank you, and I will be glad to take a quick look at any technical drafts that you want a quick look taken at.

The Organotechnetium compounds draft is, at least on its face, sound. It can be better improved by other chemists, and maybe nuclear physicists and radiologists, in article space. I will be accepting it.

The Bayesian logistic regression contains a lot of higher mathematics that I probably have forgotten. (I don't know it now. I probably knew it fifty years ago, but I have forgotten all of the higher math that I learned in college. I remember high school calculus.) I don't think that its content has any meaning to a reader who doesn't know the higher mathematics, and a reader who does know the higher mathematics can probably look in a textbook. I will be sending it back with a recommendation that the author write a basic introduction. I don't know much about logistic regression, but modifying it based on what you have already observed, which is Bayesian, seems like a good idea that should be explained better.

The Poincare regression is completely theoretical, in view of the fact that it won't happen in an amount of time such that the amount of time can be written in a simple form. I am not exactly sure what recommendation to make, but I will probably send it back with some recommendation.

When you are reviewing a draft for acceptance and for a move into main space, it would be really helpful if you removed any red link categories that exist on it. Per WP:REDNO, red link categories must either be removed or the categories must be created. Since AFC folks review the drafts before accepting them and sometimes help clean them up, it would be great if you could remove these links at the same time so that other editors don't have come by later and clean up these categories. I agree he's notable. And I am very willing to work on academics in the humanities, especially the more esoteric areas--even more so than STEM. As you know, it's sometimes difficult to find evidence WPedians will accept in fields like archeology and theology, so I'm particularly eager to work on and defend them--please do ping me if there's a difficulty in fields like that. ( you see more of me at stem is because working up articles there can be so very easy), I'm less confident about my ability to distinguish what amounts to notability in non-Euroamerican academic systems, unless there are also awards or publications or positions which I can judge. An islamic scholar like Yakin at KU Leuven is well within my scope--an islamic scholar with only traditional Islamic education and positions might not be, tho I'm sometimes willing to guess. Hi! Thank you for taking your time to review Draft:Drangong, Taktakan. I believe administrative villages of Indonesia, such as Drangong, should have their own pages so I attempted to publish it.

I assume that you think the sources aren't reliable enough, but I can assure you that they are.

  • The first source is the annual journal of the city's statistics office Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) Kota Serang or Statistics of Serang Municipality, Kecamatan Taktakan Dalam Angka (Taktakan District in Figures). You can see the go.id domain in the provided url (https://serangkota.bps.go.id/publication/2019/09/26/ac6501d68ad22d8722d645ed/kecamatan-taktakan-dalam-angka-2019.html) which indicates that the site is owned by Indonesian government (see .id). The journal can be legally downloaded from the page. It doesn't have DOI or PMID, but it has an ISSN: 2714-9323. ISSN field is surprisingly unavailable in the journal citation template of Wikipedia.

There's not much going on in that village so I can't find many reliable sources, but I'll try.

If Wikipedia considers that the insignificant administrative village doesn't deserve a page, then I'll accept it.

Draft:Ovcha kupel II Metro Station

About the problem with the references: the second reference clearly states that the station was opened on 24 April 2021. In the website of the reference, it's written (in Bulgarian) that the station was opened on that date along with three other stations. But, if you'd like, I can find a reference that proves the station was opened on that date.

Physics Things

Every physics thing is a math thing. Physics is almost entirely applied math. What sort of math depends largely on what sort of physics. It's largely second-year calculus, which I have forgotten. However, I think that particle physics has stuff like matrix theory that I never learned. I have forgotten all of the math that I learned in college. (by talk page stalker) @Deutschland1871: A couple things: first, you need not ask permission to edit and if Bkissin chooses not to reply to you, they are not obliged to reply. Second, you are a new editor full of enthusiasm and we commonly experience problems with editors of that sort. As a new editor you probably ought not start a new article but should instead stick to improving existing articles so that you learn our process. Thirdly, the edits you made to Paleo-Laplandic languages are incorrect insofar as you copied uncited material from other articles. Wikipedia relies upon editors finding appropriate sources like published books and academic articles and then citing what the source says in your own original wording. Edit summaries help explain your edit but they are not how we document sourcing. Finally, Wikipedia articles state what other sources have clearly said; we don't synthesize our own theories about the subjects and, if language is a topic about which you are passionate, perhaps you shouldn't edit those articles. Although it may seem counterintuitive, you could better learn editing by performing some copyediting. I hope that helps. Chris Troutman (talk) 15:34, 17 July 2021 (UTC)

@Deutschland1871: Copying content from one page to another is ok when you attribute, as you did, but it doesn't create value. Value comes from reading a source, putting into your own words what the source says, and citing it. That's how an article is written. Uncited content is not only worthless, it's dangerous because we have no idea that those sentences are correct and they could mislead the reader. As to citing, please read WP:CS. It's simple coding to put the book, magazine, journal, or whatever details between reference brackets at the end of each cited sentence. Chris Troutman (talk) 16:04, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Chris troutman, I wasn't totally sure what Deutschland1871 was asking. I absolutely agree with what Chris said. Look at sources and try to put their information into your own words. Then when you add it to an article, you have to cite the source where you got the information. Look at WP:REF for some information on that. Other projects that you may find interesting (especially if you are interested in languages/linguistics) would be Wikipedia:WikiProject Languages, where you can find language-related tasks that users need help with, or Wikipedia:Translation, where you can help translate pages to/from English.
