Prep[edit]

It has 4/7 bolded bios which doesn't strike me as too much at all, especially in the circumstances. If I moved one to another queue, someone might move it back again to finish it off. I presume the Bruce Springsteen song and the mosque don't count. Blanco's image wasn't even him so that's why I used it. There must be better images–I see they're even submitting maps now... also it is taking me forever to load a page right now so I hope this saves easily. Please archive your talk page when you have time. --candlewicke 20:27, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The image can't be used if there is a copyright problem. But, like you said, they can be swapped when more are reviewed–at least they're not all-American male bios like I saw on the Main Page once. There is a female and several countries are represented by the bios. Also, there is now a port to go with the mosque and the song so hopefully that helps. --candlewicke 20:48, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WP:OVERLINK[edit]

Context suggests that policy applies to articles, not necessarily to other items on Wikipedia. --EncycloPetey (talk) 03:52, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm saying it does no harm. When was the last time that article was linked from the Main Page? I suspect it isn't featured (in any way) as often as it ought to be, considering the quality and depth of the article. --EncycloPetey (talk) 03:57, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PS - I think the "next queue" needs to be updated to "4" (since 3 was just promoted), but I've been out of action here for so long that I do not know how the current system functions (though I have a general understanding from poking around a bit). --EncycloPetey (talk) 04:05, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DYK[edit]

Hi, I just updated the DYK section because I noticed it was overdue. However I have no idea how to go about crediting the nominators. Where do I find this information? Thanks — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:28, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The information is in the credits section of the queue page. But I see that Gatoclass has already taken care of it anyway. --BorgQueen (talk) 10:40, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:40, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I've done it for you. All you need to do is right-click on the "give" link after the user's name, copy the name of the article into the "article" field, and hit "Save".
You should also manually copy the previous update to the archives after doing the credits. I've also done that for you this time. Thanks for your help. Gatoclass (talk) 10:42, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I might be blind, but I'm not seeing a "Credits" section on Template:Did you know/Queue ... — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:44, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

More Than Weird[edit]

Hi BorgQueen! I wrote a page about a young adult novel called more than weird. Here's the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/More_than_weird Could you edit it please? I asked Black Falcon to do it but he hasn't yet. Thanks! Neptunekh2 (talk) 23:36, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NASA GAR[edit]

hi BorgQueen, I just wanted to let you know that the main NASA article is undergoing a Good Article Review. Most of the gruntwork is done now, and the article could use a fresh set of eyes to copy edit it, add more materiel, and offer suggestions and feedback. If you have a chance, I would appreciate it if you could take a look. Thanks!

Apologies[edit]

I have just completed my 72 hour block, and I would like to apologize for anything I have done wrong, and it will not happen again. As for my future on this site, I will not be editing the current events pages for sometime, unless they are needed. Other than that, I will be editing other pages. Thank you, and again, my apologies. --Radiokid1010 (talk) 07:06, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My comment at WT:DYK[edit]

Apologies if you misunderstood my comment at WT:DYK. I was commenting that a lot of people are not happy with the way the system runs, for better or worse, and that blaming Wizardman for saying what other editors may be thinking isn't exactly fair. I am more than aware of how difficult arranging an update is, but editors who impatiently wait for their hooks to be verified don't. \ Backslash Forwardslash / {talk} 12:53, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I must not have found the correct source document since you had to redo my edit. I found what I posted from the move out of Prep area 2, here, with User:Gatoclass edit comment "copied to Queue 5" following. I did not know further editing sometimes takes place there so I should have used this. Is that right? Newportm (talk) 14:47, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I saw you reverted an intermediate edit I made. What I was starting to do is

  • Break up the big table by region (Maghreb, Middle East, Europe, US, Rest of world)
  • Convert table entries to sections, generally more readable and easier to edit
  • Reshuffle the article so the existing text for each region and the content for each country in the region is in one section
  • Bring in brief summaries for each country

I had done that, tried to save and hit the conflict. Any problem if I start over again? Aymatth2 (talk) 14:35, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Didn't think of that, so lost a few minutes of mechanical work. You can see how it is now - still not finished, but I think better organized like this. Aymatth2 (talk) 14:47, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I will leave it for now. The content still needs a lot of work, but I think the structure is better. Aymatth2 (talk) 14:57, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi i have a question[edit]

How could a hook from the article Pyrrhotite be promoted and appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know? column on 24 July 2009 if it doesn't have all the DYK requirements. From what i know it has to be a non-stub article but this one is unassessed. Mario1987 12:28, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I know the article is not a stub but it is unnassesesd in the means that it is part of the WP:Geology but This article has not yet received a rating on the project's quality scale. Mario1987 12:38, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kedarnath Wild Life Sanctuary[edit]

quick flag, as i have to dash. You are keen on the above article, sitting at the bottom of DYK, but you might want to check the sources for plagiarism / close paraphrasing before you proceed - i looked at one, and it rang alarm bells. just a warning. hamiltonstone (talk) 06:40, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As an author it is diffiuclt to decipher exactly where all the paraphrasing has been uncomfortably close to the original references. I read the article carefully and made some changes in the text, wherever I could percieve. I might still have missed some (difficult to discern by the author). I would be happy to make more amends where the paraphrising is still not in order. A reviewer is in a better position to exactly pinpoint the required changes. Please suggest further changes required to be done. Thanks.--Nvvchar (talk) 04:28, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikibreaks galore[edit]

Hello, does this mean you're not on Wikibreak anymore or are you going again? I hope my comments haven't been perceived negatively but there is very little input at ITN. I have checked the contributions of some of those who know their way around there and some such as Spencer, Tone, Daviessimo, etc haven't edited this month. What do you think should be done? --candlewicke 15:50, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I will begin when I have some time (which unfortunately isn't right now). --candlewicke 15:56, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please and thank you give your opinion on the following nominations: Altinum (July 31 between the two deaths). --candlewicke 17:06, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have some concerns about the HIV article being incredibly detailed and not wanting to overwhelm it with recentism. Also I am not sure if the plague is internationally significant and is maybe (at the moment) just a local headline story which is attracting attention because it is the plague. It does not seem to compare to swine flu. I will look at HIV though and see if I can work something in without encountering difficulty. --candlewicke 17:16, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes, I will do Russia. --candlewicke 17:17, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I am just in the process of writing this one and it says here that the deal will be agreed in November? Will it not therefore be nominated again then? "A definitive agreement detailing the status of the proposed base and Russia's existing Kant base will be signed by November." Also, language-wise (the italics), "No specifics on the location of the base or the amount of troops were given, but the document signed Saturday by the leaders of the two countries indicated that Russia may be allowed to deploy the equivalent of a battalion. Media reports have suggested a base could be set up in Batken province, near the border with Uzbekistan." I am not sure that this is up to the usual standard but I will continue if you approve, although I could alternatively move it to WP:ITN/FE and note this at the nomination. --candlewicke 17:32, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not really a big deal[edit]

But on Seal Hunting, I think a partial protect would have worked. Seems to be an IP address doing most of the edit warring. But, meh. I just noted it when making sure I wasn't consider one of the "Warring parties" :P Paranormal Skeptic (talk) 17:38, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We normally don't use semiprotection for edit warring, since it will give an unfair advantage to those with accounts. And no, the IP was only one of several. --BorgQueen (talk) 18:16, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Scott Speicher[edit]

I looked at that too but it is the discovery of the first casualty of the Gulf War which, when compared to the death of the last person who experienced WWI, seemed quite small. There is also the Buddhist relics discovery but the article on the desert isn't very good (entire paragraphs and sections without references, two inline citations and an update tag at the bottom). --candlewicke 18:41, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is that wise? I do try to catch people's attention on occasion but people don't usually like it or take it the wrong way. The idea of two users collaborating to create a drama... Have there been any gay pride events lately? That usually gets them going. --candlewicke 18:57, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The headline says "alleged" and, like you said, there have been no convictions. --candlewicke 19:09, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Drama? Controversy? I can just imagine the complaints now: "Australian shock jock Kyle Sandilands is dismissed as a television judge on Australian Idol after a lie detector stunt sees a 14-year-old girl say she was raped so her mother could claim Pink tickets." Oh well... --candlewicke 21:20, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My double nomination[edit]

Hi, would you please help me out here? I submitted my own DYK double nomination which is now at queue. My hook highlited two brand new articles. It read originally:

Both articles were fairly elaborate. However, at this moment, while still in queue, only one article remained and is featured there, while the other one, for which I cared even more, has been cut out and discarded. I hope it was not intentional. Please take a look at it.[2] Thanks in advance. --Poeticbent talk 05:51, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Help with "No MOVE option available"[edit]

Hi, I've been directed to you (User_talk:Drilnoth#No_MOVE_option_available) as the person that may have put a move-inhibit on article Joaquín Guzmán. The matter came about as I was trying to standardize the names of Mexican Drug War drug lords who, as virtually all Mexicans do, ordinarilly have 2 last names (see here --> [Category:Mexican Drug War]), and are ordinarilly so tracked by law enforcement agencies (example: http://www.state.gov/p/inl/narc/rewards/c27667.htm ).

Can you help either by unblocking the Move operation for this article (and I will proceed with the move of Joaquín Guzmán TO Joaquín Guzmán Loera myself) or by performing the operation yourself (thanks!)? This should bring consitency amongst these articles. Thanks, Rob99324 (talk) 19:18, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Trust me Borg, I think you'll be glad you weren't here for this day. Oh, btw, ITN is now being watched... Apparently we're now a cabal of our own. I'll take that as a badge of honour. Can anyone create a relevant userbox? :) Otumba (talk) 21:53, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I am still in holiday and I think the timing was convenient. :-) I try very hard to stay away from that kind of wiki-politics. --BorgQueen (talk) 21:57, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wise, I will take that advice to heart. Oh, are you a member of the cabal? [5] :D Otumba (talk) 22:01, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
After reading our article on Cabal, I would say I probably am not; I do sometimes promote my own agenda but not in a secretive or persistent way. In general, I let other people do what they want to do here, as long as they don't harm the project in an obvious way. Personally I don't see much harm in featuring U.S.-centric items from time to time. --BorgQueen (talk) 22:19, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You know someone is in a cabal when they deny it. I made an addition at Wikipedia:List of cabals#In The News cabal based on the AN/I discussion, which made me chuckle a few times. Kennedy would have gone up back in my day without question, though Howard the Duck would assert that I'm a unreformed pro-US inclusionist, but ITN now is sunshine-and-lollipops compared to the situation back when Pharos and I went tooth and nail against the trio that ruled the candidates page who believed the point of the candidates page was to prevent admins from posting items. Heh. I'll be sure to bring the popcorn and make myself comfortable if this RfC people are talking about on WT:ITN actually happens. - BanyanTree 00:25, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
can someone explain to me whats so suspicious about working on main page items. someone posted me on admin notice board for the kennedy thing for same reason. that i work on main page a lot. wth. and now u put similar thing in the cabal. what in the world is so suspicious about working on main page... wikipedia is all voluntary! -- Ashish-g55 23:06, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think, having come here to see where the possessor of this talk page had gotten to in recent times, that I am very glad that I wasn't there to see that unfold either and I still haven't managed to read it all. I also think, Ashishg, that BanyanTree was being humorous (but, even if he wasn't, then I suspect I and several others are also guilty of lurking around the Main Page areas, daring to respond to inquisitive users, committing the most cold-blooded and heartless reviews left, right and centre using all sorts of horrendous, harmful, opining, unspeakable words...) --candlewicke 02:01, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
no i know he was being humorous but i just wanna know what the suspicion is about lol. that we are automatic main page bots or something? maybe my english has gotten really bad but the word suspiciously makes no sense to me in this particular context. -- Ashish-g55 03:06, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, I just remembered that I've nominated and/or posted a couple of US-centric items myself. Does that make me an enemy of the cabal? Scary! :-D --BorgQueen (talk) 10:09, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh no... I've done a shooting and a plane crash and nominated Les Paul all in the same year... I guess I'm not part of it then either. I'm too pro-having the US on ITN to be of any use to them. I suppose we can join forces to be anti-pro-anti-idea of US bias collaborators together. --candlewicke 19:00, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Picture[edit]

How about this for the ITN picture? I'm aware that it's further down but the current one is a crest of arms (and the Gabonese one at that—we must stamp out this Gabon-centrism which is threatening to destroy ITN!) and this is a more popular event going by the page views which I saw him still feature in earlier. Should I suggest it on the ITN talk page? --candlewicke 19:00, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, thank goodness? It must've been an awful holiday. --candlewicke 19:02, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have completed three ITNs so far today if you want to post any of them please and thank you (if they haven't been posted already). They are Niger River, LGBT rights in Uruguay and 2009 Sierra Leone shipwreck. I also wonder if you have an opinion on the Indian schoolgirl stampede and if too few of them died. And—am I doing too many ITNs? --candlewicke 02:43, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, BorgQueen. May I ask you a favor with your Korean ability? I've been working on the Gyeongju article after it has fallen into the realm of WP:FARC. A tag has been placed on File:Elvis Presley 1970 cropped.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi,

I saw a problem on a wiki article and thought you could help. I am picking you as a random administrator (Or rather, the only one I have talked to before). There is this wiki article on the famous controversial novel Lajja by Taslima Nasreen. Well, the page was about the novel till Aug 9. Then suddenly an IP replaced its contents with stuff copied from Lajja (film). It stayed like that till today when I noticed. As another page about the film exists, I have reverted to the old form of the page - I hope I did the right thing. I am really sad that such things go unnoticed on wikipedia for so long. I would be happy if you could watch the page, as I am active only on Malayalam Wikipedia

Someone then changed it to "replacing the House of Lords as the nation's highest judicial body", which wasn't exactly right as per WP:ERRORS, and so I've changed that to "replacing the Judicial Committee of the House of Lords". I think I'll go and lie down now, or perhaps carry on working. BencherliteTalk 17:21, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Exceptionally powerful and newsworthy countries[edit]

I've never heard of them but what is your view on these? This IP believes Kenya is an inferior country and I'm inclined to disagree but wish to avoid an edit war. I'm not even sure which is the "exceptionally powerful" one (China maybe?) or the "exceptionally newsworthy" one (NK perhaps?)... poor old Ban Ki-Moon has also somehow become involved in this rather complicated mix of international relations... --candlewicke 09:44, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I tend to agree with the anon... --BorgQueen (talk) 10:44, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot believe that an article that's basically anadvertisement for a racist far-right hate group was given runtime on the main page. Shame on you! Shoemaker's Holiday Over 210 FCs served 12:58, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A number of people disagreed, including the user who verified it. [6] I guess you are going to place the "shame" thing on them all now... --BorgQueen (talk) 13:07, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You could easily have asked me to expand on my points on my talk page, or given me some notice, instead of deciding that people saying I didn't articulate my reason well enough was good enough reason to ignore my concerns completely. Advertisements for far-right hate groups - and the article contains no substantiative criticism, but quotes the organisation repeatedly - have no place on Wikipedia's Main Page. I accept the article's creation does not necessarily show malice - poor understanding of NPOV is ample to explain it - but it still should not have gone on the main page. Shoemaker's Holiday Over 210 FCs served 13:11, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It is your responsibility to explain why you think it is "basically anadvertisement for a racist far-right hate group", especially when a number of people verified and thought it was okay. You might have a point, but that doesn't give you a right to say "shame on you" on the talk page of an admin who was not even involved in the verification process. Please read WP:CIVIL. --BorgQueen (talk) 13:21, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Let's see. The fact put on the main page isn't even sourced, it makes unchallenged claims that Muslims are planning a jihad against England, thereby buying into the extremist racist views of the group, and it presents the protest which supposedly (but that is not sourced) led to the organisation's founding in terms that make it appear unambiguously wrong, when that is not established. This article is distinctly and completely anti-Muslim. You messed up big time. Shoemaker's Holiday Over 210 FCs served 14:54, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You mean the person who verified the article "messed up big time", right? Anyway, the article has been removed from T:DYK, per your requests. I've notified the article creator to join the discussion. [7] --BorgQueen (talk) 14:58, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously I refute User:Shoemaker's Holiday's arguments - see discussions elsewhere. But one point that arises is whether article editors can be notified in advance that an article has been nominated for DYK - I didn't know it had been, and was as surprised as anyone to see it on the Main Page. I'll take this up somewhere.... Ghmyrtle (talk) 15:40, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Refeature[edit]

No, I'm happy to let it pass. I was just pointing out how easy it is to remove DYKs you disagree with. I'll concentrate on writing my next DYK on Hope not Hate (I could even invite Shoemaker to contribute) and making sure the article survives AfD. I'll concentrate on uncontroversial DYKs for a while!  Francium12  18:58, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Erroneous Bot from an admin[edit]

Hi there. Would you please be so kind and look into this bot from this admin? His bot included a BLP article of a nigerian award winning actress into a porn-list-log. As wikipedia is being used nowadays by the media as a source, such an inclusion into a porn-log list not only has the power to potentially damage the reputation of the subject of the BLP, but also violates against existing US and international laws. Lastly, the erroneous bot also included the article in question into other log-lists that have nothing whatsover to do with the subject of the BLP. Anybody, admin or no admin, who is unable to properly use a bot, should not play around with bots. Your admin assistance is needed here please. Thank you. Don't know what you mean by "properly updated", but they all three included data and updated suorces regarding the latest prize. True they could include more, but I didn't know if that is a direct requirement for being ITN AzaToth 10:45, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just checked first two articles, and they both lacked citations regarding the latest prize. Please see Wikipedia:In_the_news#Updated_content: "The decision as to when an item is updated 'enough' is subjective, but a five sentence update (with at minimum three references, not counting duplicates) has generally been considered more than sufficient, while a one sentence update is considered extremely questionable." --BorgQueen (talk) 10:58, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Diameter to Radius?[edit]

I have to say that I found this change, based on the WP:ERRORS report at the time, a bit odd. Obviously, if the ring had a radius hundreds of times larger than Saturn's radius, it also has a diameter hundreds of times larger than Saturn's diameter (although I could suppose that the wording at the time could have been interpreted as the ring having a diameter hundreds of times that of the planet's radius). -- tariqabjotu 08:04, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WP:ITN[edit]

Please revert your posting of the "Father Damien" item to allow discussion. Physchim62 (talk) 19:54, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Eh.... you will need to achieve consensus first. --BorgQueen (talk) 19:55, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Erm, like you did before posting… maybe you should just write ITN all by yourself, if that's your attitude! As you yourself have stated on many occasions, one of the main roles of ITN is to promote the improvement of the encyclopedia: you actions in the face of a fairly reasonable objection have completely bypassed that in favour of a piece that you yourself proposed. Physchim62 (talk) 20:02, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I already explained to you why your rationale was invalid. Please try to understand how ITN works and cooperate with others rather than being disruptive. Thank you. --BorgQueen (talk) 20:06, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not being disruptive, I'm merely pointing out your personal double standards. You objected here, last Wednesday, to the inclusion of the Nobel Prize in Physics because you deemed that the articles were not sufficiently updated. You then propose a piece today, do a minimal update yourself (only a single reference was added in the 24 hours before you posted, and that was by yourself), and post it youself (with a blurb that you wrote yourself, not using the blub suggested by Tone) after I asked you to hold on. You then refuse to revert, saying I should gain consensus, and accuse me of not wanting to cooperate with others! I could make it up if I tried! Why don't you just revert, it would be much easier for everyone. Physchim62 (talk) 21:09, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That reference has been removed anyway, because his canonization was planned long before and the article was already properly updated. The article appears to be constantly well maintained, due to the article's former FA status and the subject's fame. --BorgQueen (talk) 21:16, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I am not really interested in the former. As for the latter, yes, they used to be certainly famous in 1980s but I am fairly certain that most people here will regard the splitting as a trivial gossip at best. --BorgQueen (talk) 02:26, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orionids[edit]

RE "The peak of the 2009 Orionid meteor shower will occur around October 21, 2009 " ... I tried to find some amazing results or stories of fireballs for the 2009 meteor the twitter and YouTube type sites were very busy as they become more mainstream to discuss things globally. Japanese scientists say that due to the comet going through old debris producing elevated displays of activity lasting several nights, the dates 21, 22 and 23 should be good viewing... but it may be becoming "old news" I didn't check my mail soon enough. Kind RegardsSriMesh | talk 18:17, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First sentence of electron summation for TFA[edit]

You might want to review the end of the first paragraph in the lead of Electron and edit your summary as it currently appears in Wikipedia:Today's featured article/November 21, 2009. The sentence "It has no known substructure and is believed to be a point particle." is extremely misleading.

Invitation to comment[edit]

Hi BorgQueen. I am User:Cargoking and you probably have seen me around ITN. I have identified you as an ITN regular, so I thought I would inform you of a discussion opened on 5 December 2009.

MSGJ suggested on Arsonal's (who's fairly new to ITN) talk page, that ITN suggestions made on the candidate's page would be put on separate pages, such as Wikipedia:In the news/Candidates/2009-12-05. The past seven days of discussion would be automatically transcluded. "This would avoid the need for archiving and it would also leave the history of the page intact. It might also make it easier to create new days because we can use preload templates, etc." The only disadvantage to this proposal would be that each new comment would not show up on people's watchlists.

You are invited to take part in discussion here.
Thanks,  Cargoking  talk  17:28, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Overlinking[edit]

I agree with you that 'forehead' should not have been linked in the hook for Comptesse de Noailles. All these links have a dilutive effect on the link to the desired target page. I would also have piped silk stocking thus:[[stocking|silk stocking]], and possibly done away with the links to 'squirrel' and 'fur' altogether. Paul Samuelson[edit]

I noticed that the NY Times article cited used the simpler term "Nobel Prize" instead of the longer formal description. Maybe a link to the full title would help readability. What do you think? --Wikiwatcher1 (talk) 19:23, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pornstar image[edit]

Hi BQ! Just thought I'd let you know that there's a lead image coming up in a DYK update featuring a female pornstar. As I know you often like to crop rectangular images, I just thought I'd let you know that I did try to crop this one but it just didn't look right, it looks better with the three-quarter body image included IMO. Gatoclass (talk) 17:36, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Seems somebody else decided to revert my reversion. Oh well, at least I tried ... Gatoclass (talk) 06:53, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, well actually I was originally asking you not to crop the image when it came up, because I thought the original image was better than my crummy attempt to crop it. But then, someone restored my discarded crop so I decided at that point to just leave it as is. However, your crop of my crop looks way better, so please don't revert as I think your version will look very nice on the mainpage :) Gatoclass (talk) 12:10, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the file summary says that it is not eligible for copyright. Do you think it is a good idea to use this on Main Page? --BorgQueen (talk) 10:58, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, BorgQueen. If in doubt, leave it out. I favour mistake-avoidance. I'd also avoid things that get people to write long posts on Talk: MainPage -- right or wrong, I'd rather people spend time and energy working in article space instead of debating copyright eligibility of one replaceable image on Talk: MainPage. That's my 2 cents. Hope this helps. --PFHLai (talk) 17:51, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disruptive?[edit]

How are my edits to the Current events portal disruptive? A registered editor feels that an item should be included, I feel that it shouldn't. A simple disagreement, that's it. Neither side is being disruptive here. 83.80.18.68 (talk) 18:32, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't you notice the item is on Main Page? If consensus thinks that it is significant enough to be featured on MP, how could you justify removing it from P:CE? It is disruptive to repeatedly remove an item against consensus. --BorgQueen (talk) 18:49, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
1. I didn't notice it was featured on the Main Page, and I'm very surprised it ended up there. But if it's there, it should be on the Portal, so I will rest my case. 2. The second time I removed the item, I did so because Phynicen (talk · contribs) imo wrongfully accused me of vandalism in restoring it. ITN nomination[edit]

Hi. Since you are one of the main ITN admins, I'd like to suggest to take a look at this nomination from January 23. If there is still space on the ITN template, please add the blurb as it already has a lot of support. I'm currently working on a separate article that I just recently published, so that could be the main link once it is completed. Thanks. ~AH1(TCU) 22:21, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To my English English, the removal of 'the' makes for poor grammar. I accept fully that the article in question is of American source, so I am on a sticky wicket (more English English). However, I assume the 'the' before burro later in the same arena, will also be removed. Hi, thank you very much for editing the article, posting it to ITN and giving me the credit on my talk page. :) I've just seen the image that was uploaded to the article a little while ago and I believe that it is not the same sculpture that was sold at the auction. The sculpture in the picture doesn't look like it's made of bronze, it looks lighter then the one in this picture, [10]. I have read in the sources that there are a few versions of the sculpture around though, so I think it could be one of those. I was just wondering if there is a place on Wiki to go to query this? - JuneGloom07 Talk? 21:36, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Swiss National Bank assures us here that the sculpture depicted is indeed L'Homme qui marche I – "one of Giacometti's best known figures. In it, the artist has captured a physical movement. For Giacometti, the natural equilibrium of the stride symbolizes man's [sic] own life force." The sculpture is depicted from four different angles on the note: these are, of course, engravings made from drawings rather than photographic reproductions. Maybe it would be better to say "depicted" or "represented" rather than "pictured"? While I'm being pedantic, we should note the correct French capitalization as well! Physchim62 (talk) 22:55, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I probably should have made myself a little clearer. I was referring to the new image that was uploaded tonight. I just don't think that a rare bronze sculpture would be exhibited outside, which makes me wonder if it is one of the copies. Thank you for the reply though. :) - JuneGloom07 Talk? 23:15, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Main Page balance[edit]

Do you have any idea if there are guidelines for whom the Main Page balance should be designed for? At 1280x800, without the last item you removed from ITN, I got a large amount of whitespace at the bottom of OTD. Even with the item, there is still a bit of whitespace. But now as I resize the window to make it smaller, I see that it stays fine for only a little bit. By the time the screen reaches 90% of my width, I start to see a bit of whitespace on the left, and then by 75% there's a gaping hole on the DYK side. Do you know the screen resolution we should be designing for? -- tariqabjotu 13:52, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

They have had a discussion regarding this issue before - hence the ITN template says: "In terms of Main Page balance, right now we're configured for widescreen monitors, which it appears most editors use. Non-widescreen users, please do not change the balance even if it looks off on your monitor." You might want to have a look at Wikipedia:Main page/Monitor poll. --BorgQueen (talk) 14:20, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Balance[edit]

What is your screen resolution? I have 1024x768 now, and the balance is quite bad, with ITN longer than TFA, while DYK and OTD are comparable. I know on higher resolution, the DYK column will look longer, and I can check various display settings on weekdays, but not weekends. Materialscientist (talk) 06:57, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I forgot to mention that I've looked through the above thread and the monitor poll. The drive for my adding DYK hooks is DYK backlog, which used to be over 300 noms/T:TDYK for many weeks, but its getting under 300 now. The resolution issue is worrying: plenty of laptops still use 1024x768 whereas most desktop screens are higher res. I guess you can lower res on your screen to 1024x768 and see what happens (although it might still not be the same result as on a 1024x768 laptop screen). When I do such test during weekdays, the balance of right/left column length changes quite a lot (image/text ratio changes, I guess), and this is worrying, because of the above duality (laptop/desktop users). Materialscientist (talk) 07:34, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

PS. Is it normal that the current TFA and OTD pictures on the main page are not protected in any way? Materialscientist (talk) 07:36, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see Commons protection either for current TFA, OTD or featuref picture image. Maybe I'm missing something? Materialscientist (talk) 09:10, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Image for Saadanius[edit]

I saw your addition of {{reqphoto}} to the talk page for Saadanius, and wanted to let you know that I've been working on it since Thursday. I have emailed the researchers who wrote the academic article, and specifically the person listed for resource requests, but have not heard back. Given the general fear or copyleft licenses in certain parts of the academic world, I'm not entirely sure I'll receive a favorable reply. But if I do get something, you'll see it post immediately.

If I do obtain an image in a timely fashion, could the image be added to the ITN section? Just curious. – VisionHolder « talk » 16:27, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wondering if I might bother you for an edit?[edit]

Hello there friendly friend. A while back you nominated the article Tom Krieglstein for DYK due to him being the first in line for the Obama's election nigh rally.

I was wondering if I could bother you to do a small edit that I dare not do myself because I have a conflict of interest with the subject matter. For a few years, my brother had a nice little Wikipedia biography page. After some review, it was decided that his accomplishments did not warrant a full biography, but rather belonged as snippets on pages referring to events he was involved with. You can see the final resolution of these discussions here (now archived). I dare not add these snippets myself, and I don't think the editors involved with the discussions seemed very interested in doing it. So that brings me to kindly asking you.

Specifically, would you mind adding a short snippet about my brother being first in line to the Grant Park Victory Speech, 2008 page, as was suggested by the other editors? I know it's a small little thing, but it meets Wikipedia Notability. I don't want to tell you what to add because of my CoI, but I will give you the references necessary for adding it. Here is a cache of my brother's Wikipedia biography so you can get an idea of what was written about the event before. Here are the key citations MTV, NBC, Ekstra Bladet (Danish News), Público (Portuguese News) and the Chicago Tribune (important because it revisits his experience a year later.

If you're up for it, it would be much appreciated. If not, I completely understand. Would you mind letting me know either way. Thanks for taking the time to read this Dkriegls (talk) 06:53, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Source verifiability[edit]

Hi. here is written about verifiability, and I was wondering, there are a lot of non-authoritative sources which can be used as sources for given informations. The main point is verifiability, not the source's authority. E.g. if a celebrity has written something on her twitter, it can be pretty much used in wikipedia as source in her article. Why am I addressing with this issue to you? Well, because you're admin and this is not just about my issue here, it will have subsequent effect (for me at least). So to get straight ahead, he had removed my edit saying that this youtube link isn't verifiable, but how can't it be verifiable if the person, about which the article is, herself is saying it? And this is pretty much important information, as they don't live together, if there was a written version available I would add it, but we only have video-version available (youtube link), so I fail to see how it's not verifiable, I'm in advance aware what this user will say to me if I try to reach the consensus with him. That youtube-links shouldn't be used as sources, but given information, it can be used in this case. What will you suggest? It's not a "challenged" source in this case, because the person herself is saying this, not her lookalike, she herself. In the end, I'd like to go ahead and make an assumption what these rules (about source verifiability) where created for? One of the reason is to avoid lies, in some blog someone might publish an information about someone, which is can be purely made up (non-reliable), but in this case, is there a doubt that this information isn't true? If she herself acknowledged it? Userpd (talk) 07:17, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ITN/C headings levels[edit]

I have no particular objection to hitting the equals sign a couple of extra times, but is there a reason why new nominations are headed as 4th level? For what purpose are level three headings being held in reserve? An editor seeing the date as a level 2 heading will, in keeping with normal wiki practice, make the heading below that a level 3 one by default. My experience this morning, of noticing the level of the date heading more than I did the little request above the editbox, is probably not unusual. So long as there is consistency, the ToC display is identical: the current practice forces the software to simulate the raising of each level 4 header.

You did no wrong in enforcing the rule that I missed this morning: I'm simply querying the relevance of the convention. I would suggest that as the most active admin on ITN you would be perfectly entitled to be bold in regard to this, but if you think it needs wider discussion, by all means transfer my comments to WT:ITN.

On another issue, would it be possible to make the ITN/C archive searchable, as the WT:ITN archive already is?

Thanks, Kevin McE (talk) 07:20, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, you'll see the first paragraph above appear in the talk page in a few moments. Any thoughts as to desirabiliy/feasability of the searchable archive? Kevin McE (talk) 07:36, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Arguments[edit]

I believe that your statements regarding the DYK mess may have a basis which is not wholly accurate; in particular, there may be a conflation of multiple incidents.

There is the issue of optimal phrasing of hooks based on wholly fictional content, of what counts as 'real-world content'. On this issue, I've already conceded the point that if a hook gets all the way through the approval process, then the question of 'real-world content' is not a sufficient reason to remove it from the queue.

But there is also the issue of factual accuracy, which I hope you will agree is far more serious. I had genuine concerns about that hook, and I had just been verified my understanding about the proper procedure for removing a hook from the prep queue (as opposed to from the actual template) -- and isn't the prep queue a suitable location for raising last-minute concerns? These concerns have been addressed and ruled to not be a serious problem, so I'm not arguing any more regarding that particular hook.

I have also made several edits, during the intervening period, to the prep queues so as to improve punctuation and sentence structure. This does constitute the majority of my editing DYK - plus raising objections on the suggestions page (which is, however, not possible when I'm away for five days). Chess Olympiad 2010[edit]

Hi BorgQueen. I've recently expanded the article about the 39th Chess Olympiad with the informations accessible, which I've found. Could you please post it on the main page, regarding its conclusion day as 4 October, though the main events concluded yesterday. Best regards.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 16:26, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to the FIDE regulatives, if a national team decides to avoid a match against any other team, the match results with a technical win in favor of the opposite team. It is not something special, or unusual to be mentioned. Best regards.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 16:57, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, Yemeni chess players did play against Israeli chess players on a tournament in Belarus, which was followed by the decision of the Ministry of Sports to refuse against Israel in the first round at the Chess Olympiad 2010.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 17:13, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
P.S.The outcome for the technical win in that match, could be seen here. The "+" sign annotates game won without play.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 17:16, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What do you think about this:

"The major story seemed to be that the Yemeni team was returning home after being drawn against Israel. They didn't turn up for their Round 1 match against Isreal and played round 2 against Cameroon."(Round 2 Olympiad Games now up at The Week in chess)

Important note[edit]

Can you please respond to my previous note, which I feel is very important relative to the situation in which both you and I have found ourselves embroiled? Thank you in advance. I very strongly don't want to seem like I'm pressuring you to respond, but if you have the time to make other edits then you clearly have the time to deal with my response to your statements regarding what you have considered to be my failure to discuss my actions.

I look forward to reading your response which will, I am certain, be well-worded and cogently-reasoned. DS (talk) 16:51, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was taking some time to think on this issue, and just wondering if it was really necessary to remove the hook, even for some other reason, when several people had already expressed their opinions that such removals were disruptive. Don't you think that it was an inappropriate time for that? You could have started a discussion on the project talk page first. --BorgQueen (talk) 17:02, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I may have misunderstood the purpose of preparation areas. My understanding was that they were for experimenting with layout and sequence, and identifying last-minute mistakes. Is this correct or incorrect? DS (talk) 18:53, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dombrovskis image[edit]

Thanks for the new image but I found this one far better than the current one. I was wondering if there was some reason that you chose the current image. --BorgQueen (talk) 17:12, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dombrovskis is looking to his left (our right), which tends to draw readers' eyes away from the section's text. (The opposite is true for the left-hand column.)
The image that I used is of insufficient resolution for most applications (and therefore inferior, indeed), but it's suitable for use as a 100px thumbnail.
The above, of course, is merely my assessment. I don't mean to imply that it carries any more weight than yours does.  :) —David Levy 17:22, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi BorgQueen. I was just wondering... Because of your name-space protection applied here, does it concern you that article Vlad gheorghiu now exists? The new article of course, can't be moved to its proper noun space, but because of its obvious lack of independent notability and weak sourcing, I'm left uncertain whether requesting a page-move is really worth the bother. It occurred to me as well, that redirecting Vlad gheorghiu to its parent band article may also have the potential of being problematic if not protected. Perhaps you could take a look and apply any logical changes if necessary. Thank you.  -- WikHead (talk) 01:45, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

wine in foie gras[edit]

Hi ~ if you read the discussion, citing wasn't the problem, it was that wine had no place in the article. I don't wish to get into a scruffle, so see if you read the same thing i did in the discussion[13]. 174.74.68.103 (talk) 05:00, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please read another discussion below. The user said "Once you have a citation, I don't object. Without citations, it just seems really random." Which I agree. --BorgQueen (talk) 05:09, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And in the discussion you quoted: "There is a certain snobbishness about the section and although I am neutral about whether it should stay or go I do think it needs to be trimmed down to only include well sourced statements." --BorgQueen (talk) 05:16, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the exact quotation from an admin that should put the wine addition to rest: [14]
I have removed the wine section as it was silly.
Following that was:
I notice that the milk article does NOT mention cookies, or cereal or use in coffee. Certainly these are major items that milk is served with but it would be nonsense to have them in the milk article because they aren't relevant to the subject. The same is true for the Accompaniment section in this article, I think. Even the cheese article doesn't mention crackers or wine (as an accompaniment). Thanks Theresa knott for removing the wine mentions.
I really should have directly quoted her earlier rather than making you guess at which statements I was referring to, my apologies. As this was an admin decision, I'll go ahead and reinstate it, and maybe you can take it up with Theresa if there is further confusion, she looks to still be an active user. 174.74.68.103 (talk) 22:34, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
1) According to the context, it appears that she said it was silly because it was uncited. 2) You keep saying "it was an admin who did it". So what? It was based on her personal opinion, not an official policy. They are not some kind of ruling class. Do you realize I am an admin too? 3) I see you have been already reverted by someone else. What you are doing is getting disruptive and perhaps should be dealt with a bit more force. --BorgQueen (talk) 04:00, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In the news[edit]

Why exactly do I have to nominate the Golden Globe results for inclusion in the In the News template? From what I understand, there are many topics, certain award shows among them, that inherently meet the importance criteria, and do not need to be voted on to gain consensus. As far as I can remember, the Golden Globe results have always been documented on the main page. Orane (talk) 07:51, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It does not necessarily mean that the particular article is adequately updated. It is true that the Golden Globe is listed at Wikipedia:In the news/Recurring items, however the page states: Items which are listed on this page are considered to have already satisfied the 'importance' criterion for inclusion on ITN, every time they occur. However, the relevant article(s) will still have to be updated appropriately and proposed on the candidates page before being posted. That happens to be our consensus, and we will have to follow it although some of us might think that it could be inconvenient. --BorgQueen (talk) 08:01, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Golden Globe[edit]

I nominated it here for you, and guess what, so far consensus is against it. --BorgQueen (talk) 19:53, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I guess it's not as notable as I thought it was. I checked, and saw that last year's wasn't posted either, which is weird, because I seem to remember it.
As a side note, though, my posting it in the "In the news" template without consensus wasn't an attempt to slight the process, but simply a lack of experience on my part. I've been on many areas of Wikipedia, but this simply wasn't my niche. Orane (talk) 03:28, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ITN sun image[edit]

I'm guessing the reason you did not use File:Far side of the Sun 3D STEREO crop.jpg is because it was taken before the satellites reached 180 degrees of separation and it is therefore not a complete image of the far side. Frankly, I'm a bit peeved that NASA made this announcement without making such an image available. However, I still think that image is superior to one from 2007, as many people will expect the lead image to have something to do with the announcement. The 3D anaglyph, although from STEREO, is not a product of the situation that has been in the news for the past few days. I'd suggest the recent image and "preliminary view pictured" or something along those lines. What do you think?--Chaser 14:04, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Added template for SuggestBot[edit]

Hi,

Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.

We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.

We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available on User:SuggestBot/Getting Recommendations Regularly.

If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom (talk) 23:06, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You've replaced the ITN pic just after about 4 hours. :-D --BorgQueen (talk) 00:05, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Smiley emoticon noted. (:
Regarding the general issue, past discussions have shown consensus that we generally should illustrate the newest item when feasible. Variety is important too (and we wouldn't want four hours of one image followed by two days of another), but we can revert to an earlier image if a subsequent one stagnates (especially if neither item appears at the top by this point, rendering that aspect irrelevant). —David Levy 00:21, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

.xxx[edit]

I did just revert you on .xxx for a couple of reasons. 1) The mention of censorship didn't appear to be exactly in the refs. 2) The section in question is just about the ICANN/ICM interaction.

There are plenty of opinions on all sides as noted in the 'Background' section. Rather than just re-revert perhaps you'd like to try and improve that. Or make a more balanced 'Reaction' section? Myself I feel the link to Wikinews is probably sufficient. Wwwhatsup (talk) 11:21, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually the mention of censorship does appear exactly in the refs: "Industry members say they fear they could be subject to arbitrary censorship by governments and even by a new board overseeing the dot-xxx domain." Having said that, I don't really care, as I added it just to meet the minimum update requirements for ITN. --BorgQueen (talk) 11:36, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Admin assistance/advice required[edit]

I plucked your name from Wikipedia:Admins willing to make difficult blocks. I have a problem with user:Racepacket who is threatened User:LauraHale, a newcomer to Wikipedia. Knowing that she is a PhD student, he first raised unfounded and utterly absurd allegations of plagiarism in a Good Article review. Then he demanded that she email him scans of her sources, which I warned him was not on and would be considered harassment. He attacked on meta in the (mistaken) belief that she was an employee, which I consider meets the definition of harassment. Now he continues to fish for some kind of evidence of misconduct. All the while, he is also defending other allegations over on Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment/Racepacket 2. I think he losing all perspective and well, just going bonkers. Understandably, User:LauraHale is very upset.

For the first time ever I feel myself reaching for the block button. Your advice on this matter would be much appreciated. My apologies for dragging you into this wikidrama. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:52, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Superjet ITN[edit]

Hello, could you please give me the ITN credit for the Superjet 100 entry? I did not get one although I did most of the updating and nominated it. Thanks. Nanobear (talk) 19:18, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sai Baba's death on ITN[edit]

I know you nominated this for ITN and there's overwhelming support, but the article is in horrendous shape with multiple NPOV tags, and this isn't exactly the kind of work we should be putting on the Main Page. Needs to be pulled for now. Strange Passerby (talkcont) 12:43, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ITN removal[edit]

Hi borg queen, I wanted to give you a heads up to let you know that I removed the story from ITN about the head of the IMF. I'm sorry I didn't do this with prior discussion or any sort of consensus but I would rather be bold and have my change reverted than to leave something I felt was inapproriate. I know it went through the process, however allegations are simply that. This hasn't even progressed to becoming a court case or anything as such. Such high profile equivalents such as Chirac/Berlusconi have only ever made it to the front page when they have gone to court and I think that we should be careful when publicizing a story such as this. This wasn't a decision based on any policy just what I felt was common sense. If you feel that there are no problems then feel to revert me, i certainly wont force the issue :) Just had alarm bells in my head and wanted you to just have a second think before letting this one go. Apologies for any inconvenience by me doing this. This is has been done entirely in good faith. Seddon talk|WikimediaUK 16:34, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I already know you did, and notified here. I don't really care that much, but the consensus is overwhelming so far. --BorgQueen (talk) 16:37, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That wasn't being bold, that was totally giving the ITN community a slap in the face and rejecting a strong consensus. Awful move. Please restore. Strange Passerby (talkcont) 17:03, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ITN for STS-134[edit]

Thanks for changing the image from one of DSK to the AMS! However, I am now wondering if it wouldn't be better to use an image of Endeavour itself? I've included two images at 100px to the right. Both are of Endeavour on the launch pad, taken yesterday according to NASA. Strange Passerby (talkcont) 14:38, 16 May 2011 (UTC) [reply]

How about the verdict in the major trial of Geert Wilders for the "In the News" section of the Main Page? It's pretty big news and has quite some coverage in the world's media, as it was a pretty major occurance. Polozooza (talk) 10:53, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

License rationale on Whitey Bulger photo[edit]

Hello, BorgQueen. You have new messages at File Talk:James Bulger 1994.jpg.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Hi. I think I did encounter an edit conflict as you suggest, but from what I can tell, according to the diff you provided the difference in text between the two versions was only 151 bytes, which mostly corresponds to the removal of this cruft: The campaign focused on Greig, describing her as an animal lover who frequently goes to beauty salons.[1]. This is not "quite a bit of text", unless you are referring to the following paragraphs:

  • "He added that he loves his brother..."
  • "A US District Court judge found on September 5, 2006..."

Neither of these were removed, however. According to the diff in question, the former was condensed into the previous paragraph (by me) and the latter moved (I think by a different editor) further down the article. Anyway thanks for looking out for the article. I understand it is probably a magnet for vandals and such. Yours, Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 00:52, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, again!! I apologize if I offended you. I wasn't trying to play a semantics game. I take your point regarding edit conflict messages. Yours, Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 10:59, 24 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
