Apparently the RIAA has changed the thresholds for Latin certifications again[edit]

So I was adding new Latin certifications from the RIAA to several articles when I noticed on the RIAA website the certified units is different than the current thresholds. For example, "No Me Conoce" by Jhay Cortez is certified 20x Platino, but the RIAA says it's for 4.8 million units, not 1.2 million. And then you have "Mala Santa (song)" then by Becky which is certified Platino for 240,000 units, not 60,000 units.

So assuming the RIAA did change the standards again, that mean the new Latin certifications would be as follows: 120,000 for Oro, 240,000 for Platino, and 480,000 or more for Multi-platino. Only problem is that I can't find a statement from the RIAA like they did in 2013, so it could be an error on their part. I will try to contact the RIAA themselves to see if they can clarify this. I just thought you should know. If you do find anything that the RIAA did update the Latin certification, let me know! PS: You can archive old discussions on your talk page so it doesn't clutter up space. Erick (talk) 02:56, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't find anything but it wouldn't surprise me if the thresholds for Latin certifications were actually updated, since Latin music consumption continues to grow since 2017. It seems that the update was made this month, because "China" was certified gold for 30,000 units and there are six songs (by Jhay Cortez, Becky G, and Camilo) that received updated certifications in January. Brankestein (talk) 22:57, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, according to the RIAA website, China was certified gold for 120,000 units. It seems to have started in middle of December, specifically December 18. but some of the certification units are inconsistent for last month. Hopefully the RIAA can clear this up real soon. Do you think we should update the number to match on the websites or wait till an official announcement is made? I'm fine either way. Erick (talk) 02:52, 13 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe we should wait for an official announcement. Brankestein (talk) 02:56, 13 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The certifications were updated to the current threshold: "No Me Conoce" went from 4.8 million to 1.2 million and "Mala Santa" from 240,000 to 60,000. It was probably a mistake by the RIAA, although they should change their thresholds soon. Their current Latin certifications are obsolete. Brankestein (talk) 03:03, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Despacito[edit]

I listed the Latin pop airplay because it ranked on the all-time chart and won Latin pop song of the year on the 2018 Billboard Latin Music Awards, so readers understand why it won that award. The WP:BILLBOARDCHARTS is so that the articles don't get too cluttered with Billboard charts. I'm honestly indifferent to the revert, but I thought it's something you should consider. But at the same time, I think there's already too much US Billboard charts, so I can see why it shouldn't be listed. Honestly, I'm glad Billboard revised the methodology for Latin pop airplay, it makes easier to identify actual Latin pop songs. Erick (talk) 16:37, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I actually think that "Despacito" is a Latin Pop song but Hot Latin Songs compiles data from all Latin charts and there are already a lot of US charts. Brankestein (talk) 16:46, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I know, I'm just saying I think Latin pop/rhythm airplay charts can be used as long as the chart list is not already too long. Like Vuelveme a Querer (Cristian Castro song) because it only has two charts and won Latin pop song of the year by Billboard. Contrast that with Despacito where it ranked on pretty much chart in the world, so Latin pop/rhythm shouldn't be listed there. How does that sound? Erick (talk) 17:27, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. Brankestein (talk) 17:37, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey-yo. I started a discussion on the a discussion talk page about this and wondering if you'd like to give your input on the subject. Erick (talk) 05:27, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comment. Do you think you might create Latin Airplay as its own article anytime soon. I mean, the Country Airplay and Christian Airplay have their own articles, so why not one for Latin as well? If you're interested of course. Erick (talk) 13:00, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe. I don't have much time for editing and apparently Latin Airplay and Hot Latin Songs were the same chart from 1994 to 2012, since both measured airplay and the songs share the same rankings. However, I could create the article someday. Brankestein (talk) 16:09, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. I just spent the last two days adding the Latin airplay charts for songs after October 2012 and the Latin genre charts where applicable. You probably already saw some of my edits on your watchlist. Erick (talk) 01:20, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

List of best-selling Latin albums[edit]

Hey man, it's been a while. Me and a few editors worked on List of best-selling Latin albums which now finally exists. Just thought you might want to know it exists if you know of any other Latin albums that might've sold at least 2 million copies. Erick (talk) 22:57, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! It's really cool that there's a Latin albums sales list now :) I wonder if the "By certifications and claimed sales" tables should be ordered by certifications or claimed sales. For example, Maná's ¿Donde Jugaran Los Niños? has slightly more certified sales than Buena Vista Social Club but it is listed eight positions below because of having less claimed sales. There are more cases like that one on the list. Brankestein (talk) 11:18, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! :) I based this article on List of best-selling albums, where when you look at that page, there's also a discrepancy with the certified units and claimed sales, so it's not usual. Originally, this article was just translated from the Spanish Wikipedia which was a huge mess with albums with so many inflated sales. I actually nominated for deletion, but it got draftified instead which told me the article had potential, so I took advantage of it. Erick (talk) 21:59, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:The Last Don 2 Cover.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:The Last Don 2 Cover.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
