Quick look

Hi Brian. I've been developing Omayra Sánchez a great deal lately; is there any chance you can browse through it for ten minutes or so and tell me how much more work the prose needs? I realize it's not yet FA quality of course, but I'd like a pretty clear gauge for the amount of work I still have left to do. My goal is for this to be on the Main Page in November, so I'm in no hurry to bring it to FA, and I still have a number of options to consider, including something like this heartbreaking video. ceranthor 21:07, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi Brian,
Given that you're so good at reviewing, and appear to have so much spare time (!) that you're even helping me respond to the FA comments for Norman Selfe, I don't suppose you'd be willing and able to give Florence Violet McKenzie a once-over? She's a very similar situation to Norman - she's a fascinating lady all about providing technical education to Sydney and especially to Women. Also, most of her article is built on content Freyne in the Dictionary of Sydney too.

Thanks again for your comments at PR for this. I've had a sort out and had to drop two of the images: one for being PD in the UK but not in the US (the cig card) and one for having no date or attribution (the du Maurier image). Re: Image conundrum

Hi Brian, I checked and while the sourcing could be a little clearer, the picture is cropped from this one which was published in a book about and by the War Resisters' International. The OTRS tag means that the OTRS volunteers were satisifed that the photo was donated by the copyright holder, so I think it is fine. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:20, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Question

Regarding Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Priyanka Chopra/archive1. I was following another FAC, and when points came up there, I tried to make similar fixes here before they were noticed. Now shouldn't I address yours and other issues as they come up? That will lead to even more edits. BollyJeff | talk 13:31, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

I think you are perhaps missing my point. I was concerned about the number of edits made before any review comments had appeared at the FAC. My plea (echoed I notice by Maralia) is that you should in general let the article rest while the review takes place, except of course when responding to reviewers' comments. I hope that's clear now. Actually, would you mind if I rested Carmen for another time? Battle of the Bismarck Sea will have its 70th anniversary on 2nd-4th March; it was taken through FAC very recently with the aim of getting TFA this year, and I rather got in the way of that by scheduling so early... Carmen is an opera in four acts by the French composer Georges Bizet, first performed on 3 March 1875. It was not at first particularly successful and Bizet knew nothing of its later success as he died before its initial run was concluded. The opera tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naive soldier seduced by the fiery gypsy Carmen (first played by Célestine Galli-Marié, pictured in costume). José abandons his childhood sweetheart and deserts from his military duties, yet loses Carmen's love to the glamorous toreador Escamillo after which José kills her in a jealous rage. The depictions of proletarian life, immorality and lawlessness, and the tragic outcome, broke new ground in French opera, and after the premiere most reviews were critical. Carmen initially gained its reputation outside France, and was not revived in Paris until 1883; thereafter it rapidly acquired celebrity at home and abroad, and continues to be one of the most frequently performed operas. Currently, it is a Good Article. Since you have done a Peer Review on it a few years back, it's time for either a possible re-assessment or a major bold contribution to this article. Because suspects of Levy's murder are still living, BLP may apply to information about them. Also, 2013 hearings are not mentioned in the article outside the lede paragraph. Marion Coates Hanson

Marion Coates Hansen was an early supporter of women's suffrage, whose role in the movement has been somewhat overshadowed by that of the Pankhurst family and other high profile figures. There is no WP article for her at present, which is a notable omission. When I have finished working on George Lansbury I intend to create a stub for Hansen, and perhaps will develop it into a full article later.
My work on Lansbury has highlighted two other prominent women who currently lack WP articles. One is Jane Cobden, an important figure in the struggle of women's rights to serve in local government in the generation preceding the main suffrage campaigns. I intend to create a full-length article for this lady (daughter of Richard Cobden). The other woman is Lansbury's daughter Dorothy, a birth control pioneer and founder of the Workers' Birth Control Group. Maybe you would be interested in helping to create these article? Or anyone else who happens to be reading this page
I've been mooching around suffragist articles recently and I came across mention of Jane Cobden, who must have been a very spirited and determined lady, for whom I've now created an article with some help from another editor.
