Hi Sarastro, I got the ping wrong when replying to you in the 1999 FA Cup Final FAC discussion, so I just thought I ought to drop you a message on here to let you know I've seen it and responded. – PeeJay 12:39, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Small request if you've got a chance; how far off do you reckon 2010 Twenty20 Cup Final is from FAC? Are there any major areas of concern in your opinion? Harrias talk 15:27, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Harrias, there's nothing obviously missing, and it reads well to me with the usual disclaimer that I have a blind spot for cricket-speak. My only worry would be that it is quite brief (which never looks right to me at FAC, but doesn't bother most people), but I don't think there is a way to expand it that doesn't turn into padding. Unless there is anything you can add about the existential angst around T20 at this time, especially with the IPL? But otherwise, it's looking good. Speaking of dubious Somerset achievements, have you come across Coote Hedley before? He was one of the 1900 chuckers, and seems to have been a busy sort of chap. Looking at what he got up to outside of cricket, I wouldn't be surprised if he had a few other skeletons rattling round his closet! Sarastro (talk) 09:39, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers. I've added a bit more to the Background section to try and contextualise the Twenty20 Cup within the English domestic cricket season, hopefully it works. I'm a little nervous about straying into the wider debate on T20, but if I can find anything that specifically cites the 2010 tournament, I'll see if it is worth adding. I will probably add a little more on the group stage for each team, the Route to Finals' Day section, but otherwise I think I'll stick it up and see what happens. Harrias talk 15:23, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and Hedley is one of those that I'm aware of, but has generally been a background figure in other stuff I'm reading about. I might have a look in Hill's Somerset Cricketers and see whether he's got anything interesting to add. Harrias talk 15:23, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I had nominated Lebanon national football team for FAC over two months ago; however, due to the limited involvement in the nomination, the FAC has just been closed by @Ian Rose. Ian advised me to take a look at the FAC mentoring scheme, and I saw you name among the list of mentors (I contacted you since you specified sports as a your specialty). As this is the first time I've reached out to a mentor, I wanted to know how this whole process worked. And, obviously, if you are interested in the subject itself. Thanks! Nehme1499 (talk) 03:25, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nehme1499, it's unlikely I'll be much help with this. I'm not on here too much at the moment, but even if I was, I'm afraid that "football team" articles are a bit of a blindspot for me. I've never been too clear, in my own head, of the best way to make them work. I could perhaps help on the prose a bit, but I don't want to commit to something that I may be unable to see through. Sorry I can't be of more assistance. Sarastro (talk) 10:17, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, fully understood! Nehme1499 (talk) 15:31, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you today for the cricketer below, "about a rather arrogant but massively talented cricketer who had a dispute with the authorities and dropped out of the England team. Not KP, but Jack Crawford who played in the first two decades of the 20th century. A somewhat forgotten story but an interesting one." in collaboration! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:12, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Mentor for a FA submission[edit]

Hai Sarastro1. I am Ken. I am here to ask you about a FA submission of a list article, List of international goals scored by Neymar. Will you help me on explaining how the process is done and the further requirements that has to be done in the article. Thank You Ken Tony Shall we discuss? 15:18, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Ken Tony Peter: a list such as List of international goals scored by Neymar is not eligible for Featured article status, but should instead be considered for Featured list status. The relevant criteria are different. Have a look at the Wikipedia:Featured list criteria. If you need any help, lists aren't really Sarastro1's bag, so you might be better trying The Rambling Man or another FL regular. Hope this helps. Replaceable fair use File:Clifford Roach.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Clifford Roach.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 09:40, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to give you a note that after some delay I've re-nominated Cyclone Taylor at FAC. You had commented before and had concerns, which I do think have been addressed, so if you are interested in taking a look it would be much appreciated. Maurice Leyland scheduled for TFA[edit]

This is to let you know that the Maurice Leyland article has been scheduled as today's featured article for July 20, 2022. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article#July 20, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.

We suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks! Jimfbleak - talk to me? 12:51, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you today for the article, introduced (in ): "Maurice Leyland was a Yorkshire cricketer in the 1920s and 1930s. A rather unglamorous, but very well-loved figure, he was at his best against the toughest opponents. Atypically for a Yorkshire cricket from this period (no comments on this please, Mr Riley!), he was a cheerful and humorous chap."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:41, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
