2019 US Banknote Contest

[edit]
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited ArenaBowl, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Albany Empire (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Citations

[edit]

Just a heads-up: Citations and prose in articles about U.S. topics should use the MONTH DAY, YEAR format per MOS:DATETIES. Please keep this in mind, and thanks for adding the library citations to Mukilteo, Washington. SounderBruce 07:02, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox changes, KCPQ

[edit]

There's a reason the KCPQ infobox is a bit different—it's because I want the other infoboxes to be like it (not the other way around!). I've been trying to pare back the excessive detail that has long been a part of TV station infoboxes after reading MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE. Also, I'm trying to add alt text to more logos for accessibility purposes—it's also a necessity for a good article (the page has been pending at GAN for about a month). Hopefully this explains what I've been doing. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 20:47, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Sammi Brie: Sorry, I understand that; I tried to rely on the documentation for Template:Infobox television station. I defaulted to using other station articles for precedent since the documentation is woefully sparse at the moment. I think it would be best to update the documentation while this article is undergoing GAN so that nobody else makes the same error as me; I remember a similar discussion on infobox templates occurring when I edited the KeyArena infobox. --SmartAn01 (talk) 21:33, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sometimes, getting this project to look at the MOS is like leading a recalcitrant horse to water. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 21:44, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Sammi Brie: I'll try to update the documentation now with your suggestions. I still think we need to differentiate between O&O and just affiliate networks, but I guess we'll deal with that later for now. --SmartAn01 (talk) 22:14, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
At some point, I'll sift through the documentation. I did a massive overhaul on that infobox last year, which mostly affected parameter names and harmonized the whole thing with the radio station box. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 23:03, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

On 14 March 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Longacres, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Longacres. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Longacres), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Flag of Seattle COI clarification

[edit]

Hi SmartAn01,

Thank you for helping me understanding more information about Wikipedia's COI disclosure - I've added a disclosure to my user page now to ensure clarity about my roles. But I'm still unclear what I should do if I am a subject matter expert with primary source information but also has a non-profit relating to a Wikipedia page? From my current understanding, it seems that due to conflict of interest rules, I would not be able to improve a page I have extensive knowledge about given I work on the topic for said page, how best should we work to ensure that this page has all the appropriate, neutral information about the topic?

Thanks!

Jackson Jackson Ridl (talk) 16:39, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Jackson Ridl You can still make edit requests and suggestions for reliable sources in the article's talk page; per WP:COIADVICE, you are also welcome to make unambiguous uncontroversial edits. I don't have significant experience on such matters myself, so I would defer to the article's talk page for further clarification. SmartAn01 (talk) 19:40, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, CascadeUrbanite, I was wondering if you would please colorize File:ESPN on ABC logo 2022.svg? I've tried doing it myself, but the ABC logo didn't turn out the way I would have liked it to. My sources for the proposed re-colorized logos are per NBA.com: ESPN logo & ABC logo. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 05:12, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Charlesaaronthompson With my recreation, I would prefer to keep it as close to the original logo as possible to avoid any permission issues; since Disney has exclusively displayed the logo in monochrome as of this post, I am concerned that creating a colored version of the recreation could potentially run afoul of the company's trademark rules even if the logo itself is in the public domain. If you want, you may raise this logo at WP:IMAGEHELP and seek clarification from other editors; I may reconsider your suggestion if they approve it, but I must decline at this time, especially as I devote time to my university studies. With that, I apologize, but thank you for understanding regardless. CascadeUrbanite (talk) 06:04, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I do understand. I will leave it alone for now. Thank you for your explanation. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 06:20, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Media player Windows11

[edit]

This software has now been launched on Windows 10. Does this article need to be renamed, because this software is no longer exclusive to Windows 11. 2401:E180:8822:D47E:BB49:9BFB:9903:330D (talk) 04:06, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Since you're talking about Media Player (Windows 11), I would say yes under normal circumstances. However, Media Player (Windows) already redirects to the traditional Windows Media Player application, which makes such a name change complicated in terms of distinguishing between the two, especially considering that it is still included in Windows alongside the newer player. I will try to place a move request on the article so we can generate suggestions for appropriate names; I may also suggest a merge/split with the Groove Music article since the new player is a direct successor to it. CascadeUrbanite (talk) 05:45, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I brought up a Talk in Media Player (Windows 11) and would like to invite you to participate in the discussion. 61.216.108.177 (talk) 03:16, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The part about Groove Music/Media Player (2022) in the Windows Media Player article hopes that you can help update Groove Music is not exclusive to Windows 10. Windows 11 was also built in and was replaced by Media Player (2022) after 2022. And 2023 At that time, Media Player (2022) has also replaced Groove Music in Windows 10. I hope you can help rewrite part of the description in the Windows Media Player article that mentions Groove Music/Media Player (2022). 2401:E180:8862:D75A:F93B:2C1F:D811:C91A (talk) 16:40, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Groove Music was also included in Windows 11. Should the beginning of the article be adjusted? 112.104.154.95 (talk) 18:13, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Can you help reword this paragraph in the Windows Media Player article. Groove Music is not exclusive to Windows 10. Windows 11 had it too. "Windows 8 bundled Windows Media Player 12 along two other media player apps, namely Xbox Video and Xbox Music. The latter was renamed Groove Music in Windows 10, and then finally Media Player in Windows 11.[4] In January 2023, Microsoft began backporting the latter to Windows 10.[5] Windows RT does not run Windows Media Player , but comes with Xbox Video and Xbox Music.” 61.216.108.177 (talk) 02:45, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I am really happy to see someone working on this article and would love to join in with stuff you may not have access to, plus Maiacosis. Are either of you on WP:DISCORD? I'd love to connect there and join the effort. I have ample experience in writing TV stations: KCPQ is an FA along with three other pages plus about 120 TV station GAs and another 160 GA-quality pages awaiting consideration someday. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 20:04, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've just joined the Discord! Maiacosis (talk) 04:08, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sammi Brie @Maiacosis: I'm interested in fleshing out the article more to get it up to at least GA status, but I haven't prioritized it as of now since my various life commitments since graduation have meant a significant decrease in the amount of time I can and want to invest in Wikipedia without interfering with them. I can join the Discord to coordinate on what to prioritize, but I may not contribute as frequently as either of you. If anything, Maiacosis is welcome to join the next WP:Meetup/Seattle since I'll likely attend it; they may also gain some useful advice from Peaceray and/or SounderBruce if they also attend the meetup. CascadeUrbanite (talk) 03:13, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi everyone! I am currently writing this on an Italian train's WiFi. I am back in the US next week, but May is already booked (SIFF among other things), so it will be at least June before I can help. Peaceray (talk) 10:34, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
