WP:CVUA Training Request

Hey, I've been around and have done plenty of anti-vandalism, mainly while using Listen to Wikipedia, but also with WP:WCW as I come across it. I've been wanting to look into Huggle, but figured I should make an effort to complete the Academy first. Notes CVUA

@Jerodlycett and Ghinga7: Greetings. Thank you for interested in counter vandalism. Pls have a look the "Goals" and "Syllabus" sections below to understand the requirements needed at the end of the course in order to graduate from CVSCHOOL.

Goals

If you're new and/or inexperienced, before embarking on a Counter-Vandalism training programme, you should be able to demonstrate that you have already mastered the basic principles of editing the encyclopedia and contributed at least 200 edits to MAINSPACE. If you have previously been warned or requested to follow guidelines, you should have demonstrated that you have addressed these issues.

When you have shown through training that you have mastered the principles of Counter-Vandalism and can apply them with accuracy, and can communicate correctly and effectively with new users of all kinds you may be able to apply for permission to use restricted tools, such as, for example Rollback, and STiki that will enable you to semi-automate the process, while understanding that speed alone is not essential - the target is accuracy. When you have achieved these goals, you can display the {{User CVU0-en}} userbox on your user page.

Syllabus

  • Cannot describe these concepts at a comprehensible level.
  • Unable to differentiate the difference between vandalism and good faith edits
  • Does not understand the key purpose of reverting vandalism

  • Can describe the proper use of warning templates and how to correctly make an AIV submission.
Critical Thinking

Able to review historical reversions and identify whether such reversion were correctly categorized

Correctly assessed fewer than 85% of the examples provided by their instructor. Correctly assessed at least 85% of the examples provided by their instructor.
Communication

Able to effectively communicate with other editors regarding reversions

Communicates inconsistently with editors via talk page comments or in response to editors who question or challenge their reversions. Communicates in a polite and professional manner and avoids biting other editors and harsh comments.
Application

Effectively applies the concepts and tools of vandalism fighting in a productive and proficient manner.

  • Cannot consistently revert vandalized pages correctly.
  • Is inconsistent in use of warning on user talk pages or uses incorrect warning templates
  • Has reverted fewer than 50 instances of vandalism in the two weeks prior to graduation – or – has reverted more than 50 instances of vandalism with a high degree of incorrect reversions.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in performing reversions, either manually or with a tool (Twinkle, etc.).
  • Consistently leaves the correct messages on vandal’s talk page explaining the reversion, and is able to further explain the vandal their reasoning behind the reversion if prompted.
  • Has accurately reverted at least 50 instances of vandalism in the two weeks prior to graduation.

Please note that there are many editors who were interested in counter vandalism course and abundant the program mid way due to lack of anticipation of the amount of efforts/time needed in reading the program material, doing assigned "homework" and exams requirements . Generally, it would take an editor 1.5-2 months to finish the course. So do prepare yourself for lots of reading and homework.

Please make sure you enable WP:Twinkle and know how to provide hist diff - see here Wikipedia:Simplest diff guide. Once you have done the assignment and would like to get it review then ping me on the sub page (at the end of the assignment). I will usually review the assignment a day after you ping me. One thing to note - very important - Do NOT revert more than 3 times within 24 hours on the same page if the edit you reverted are NOT considered blatantly vandalism for you will be blocked. Sean O'Malley's nickname (Suga/Sugar infobox suggestion).

Hi there, the O'Malley nickname is such a 50/50 thing because in some places it's Sugar and others it's Suga which he often refers to himself. Do you think we should put this as a "Sugar/Suga" on his article as none are incorrect and both are equally used which I've just discovered myself after doing some research.

His merchandise is often "Sugar" but he refers to it as "Suga" a lot himself such as with his social media handles and YouTube videos he uploads.

On a side note Sherdog probably isn't the most reliable source, you may remember I corrected Arnold Allen's birthday to the correct day and you reverted my edit again until I showed you Arnold saying himself Sherdog and Wikipedia got it wrong. They're not really the best source to be honest as they've been known a few times to have things wrong.

UFC Cub Beavis G'day. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. All mma fighters' nick names on the info box is as per Sherdog.com in Wikipedia (see the bottom of the infobox where the source is placed). Sherdog holds hundred of thousands mma fighters database, and it will understandable at times there would be some errors. MMA fighter table/record in Wikipedia is used Sherdog.com as per guidelines. Do note Wikipedia is not about the true but verifiability - see Wikipedia:But it's true!. It I have twitted Sherdog to inform them in at least in 3 separate occasions when I noticed errors (1) Arnold Allen's Sherdog page indicated his DoB 1994-01-17 but Allen's twitter page, UFC fighter state page, Tapology, ESPN all indicated his DoB is 1994-01-22 (2) Justin Tafa's fight record was 3-0 record at that time instead of 2-0 (3) DUDA SANTANNA is dead (Died:1969-12-31) while she was schedule to fight Bea Malecki at UFC Fight Night 153 and they have corrected the errors by Sherdog. Recent changes

  • Users can thank others for their edits. Checkusers can now see user data related to that action. This can help identify sock puppets who harass others using thanks. [1]

Problems

  • Everyone was logged out a couple of weeks ago to fix a security problem. The problem was not entirely fixed. Because of this everyone was logged out once again last week. [2][3]

Changes later this week

  • Wikis that are not for one specific language can translate pages. Sometimes parts of translations are outdated or missing. Outdated translations are marked with a pink background. Missing translations will also be marked in the future. This markup can sometimes break things. It can soon be disabled by using <translate nowrap></translate> on the source page. [4]
  • Recurrent item The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 14 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 15 July. It will be on all wikis from 16 July (calendar).

Future changes

I have a read on your userpage and noticed that you are currently "experiencing mental health issues and experiencing significant stress" and I would advice you to wait until your have resolve the issue before taking up the program or helping up in counter vandalism work as it is at times particularly stressful as editors who we warn would troll and sending message that is very disturbing, disgusting and threatening. Personally, I have received, death thread, law sue, and all the "four letter words" that one can imaging. I understand that you are a reviewer, I would be less stressful to review new page instead of doing counter vandalism work although reviewing require more knowledge than that of counter vandalism. Michelle Waterson edit

Hello Cassiopeia (hope I am saying that correctly),

I saw your warning post about me editing the Michelle Waterson post and I would like to apologize for that. I am an American Ninja Warrior fan and I was working on adding American Ninja Warrior competitors from previous seasons into the American Ninja Warrior contestant category, as I noticed that the category was not completed. I saw that on either American Ninja Warrior Season 5 or American Ninja Warrior Season 6 (or a different season; it was one of them), I noticed that it said that Michelle Waterson competed on American Ninja Warrior during ANW qualifying. As a result, I added her to the American Ninja Warrior contestants category, not realizing that it was a mistake and that she never competed on the show. I apologize for that and what can I do to make sure I do not do the same mistake again and who were the others that did not appear on American Ninja Warrior that I gave the role to on accident?

CVUA Trainer

Hello! I would like you to be my trainer in the Counter Vandalism Unit Academy. I have over 800 edits and experience in counter-vandalism and was granted temporary rollback rights (which expire on July 31st). I have enrolled at the recommendation of the admin who gave me my rights, Kevin (L235). This is where the links are already mentioned regarding UFC on ESPN: Eye vs. Calvillo:

Why do they need to be linked again, just because they're outside the body of text? This is not the norm for most other UFC event articles. Also, avoid reverting edits without checking them first. WikiMacaroons Good day. NPPSCHOOL program is a comprehensive program which requires the participant to spend time to read provided material (WP pages) and do the assignments. The project consists of 3 parts with 10 assignments and 1 final exam. It covers notability, sources, tagging, wiki project, subsort, wiki content policies, CSD, PROPS, AfD, communication, review and much more topics. Participant usually takes 2-3 months to complete the program (it depends how much time you spend on the program). Many participant abandoned the program due to the find they need to spend more time on the assignments/reading material as they anticipate. WikiMacaroons I noticed your CVUA program is under Girth. He is a very polite and good trainer. I am also of the CUVA trainer, and the CUVA program is a lot more easy and less complicated than that of NPPSCHOOL. To say that CUVA program would help you in certain ways when you do the NPPSCHOOL program. It is a good idea to start the NPPSCHOOL after your CUVA program as it will lessen the workload and gain some basic understanding of Wikipedia guidlines prior embark NPPSCHOOL. A source at this point would be hard to come by. It was over 20 years ago. However it is true history of the UFC trademark. Lorenzo Fertitta became a partner in the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company when they expanded to Las Vegas. I was already doing graphic design for Dean Biersch in Palo Alto, CA when I met Lorenzo at a Brewery opening in San Diego at Dean's introduction. Said he was planning to buy out a new fighting league. In the fall on 1999 he came to our office in Palo Alto, sat down with us and we developed the new brand. Unless someone wants to dispute it, I would include it without citation. It is a worldwide recognized trademark now. Secondly, since you are connected/associated with UFC/Lorenzo Fertitta, which means you have a conflict of interest here to edit the page for lsuch you are strongly discourage to edit any associated pages in Wikipedia. What you could do it to provide an independent, reliable sources such as from the newspapers in the article talk page and request other editor to make the edit for you. Recent changes

  • A temporary fix helped wikis make their main pages more mobile friendly. This was in 2012. It has not been recommended since 2017. The mobile main page special casing stopped working 14 July. 60 wikis now have main pages that don't work well on mobile. You can see which ones, how to fix it and how to get help in Phabricator. This is the same problem that was reported in Tech News 2020/24 and 2020/26.

Problems

  • There is a problem with the interlanguage links. The interlanguage links are the links that help you find a specific page in a different language. The sorting is broken. The developers are working on a solution. [9]
  • Some users keep getting the notifications for the same event. Some of these are old events. [10]
  • Some users have trouble logging in. This is probably a browser cookie problem. The developers are working on understanding the problem. If you have trouble logging in you can see the details on Phabricator. [11]

Changes later this week

  • Recurrent item The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 July. It will be on all wikis from 23 July (calendar).

  • There is a Printable version link. This will disappear. That is because web browsers today can create a printable version or show how it will look in print anyway. [12]

More linking inconsistencies

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and since UFC 249 on May 9, every UFC event article about a card in the United States has had the country linked inside the event infobox. The only ones that haven't are UFC Fight Night: Holm vs. Aldana and UFC 252, with you continually reverting the latter. This has been the case since UFC 244 last November when, in regards to where an event took or was taking place, you mentioned that you would also like the country featured on the page as well. I responded by obliging, but you have made editing these articles very annoying for me now. All of your reverts mean I have to go back and keep linking the country inside the infobox. If you want to remove all the infobox country links from UFC 244 onwards, be my guest. However, if you're not prepared to actually do that or at least work on adding the country inside the infoboxes of all previous UFC events, please STOP with all this pointless reverting. 29cwcst, Pls note that I have informed you many times (about 10 times for at least a year) that we dont link country. I have removed all countries links from UFC 240 onward. It is not my call as this is Wikipedia guidelines - see again MOS:LINK. If you see any countries in any page in Wikipedia are linked, then pls pls remove the links, place "No link for countries - see MOS:LINK on the edit summary and always inform the editor (if they are regular MMA editors) on their talk pages, so they may know. I cant do it all by myself as I am the only regular mma editor that work on counter vandalism and keeping inform new editor over and over again of the normal and guidlines. Just today alone, I havel warned more than 100 editors who vandalism many mma events and fighters page just because he hear the popcast from Areil and DC which took me about 3 hours to run throught all the edits and I believe you saw some of them. Alitheboss55, Greetings. Bellator Fighting Championships is considered top tier promotion from 2009 through 2015 - see WP:MMATIER. Albazi had 2 fights under Bellator in 2017 and 2018 - see here for such he has only fought in top tier (UFC) one time. Pls wait until Albzi has fought 3 fighter in UFC before submitting for review (Note: If he has a quick turn around (without injury, pull out, sickness and etc) he might able to have another 2 more fights this year.
