The Alternative music WikiProject Newsletter Issue 6 - September 2007

"It's funny; recently I've started to notice people's impersonations of me, and it's basically like a hyperactive child. I'm a big fucking spaz."- Dave Grohl Project news "Today", Wilco, Pearl Jam, John Frusciante and Audioslave reached featured article status in the past month! Well done to Brandt Luke Zorn, Teemu08, the various Pearl Jam editors, NSR77, Grim-Gym and Gocsa respectively. The discographies of The Make-Up, Neutral Milk Hotel, Nirvana, Lightning Bolt, The Breeders and John Frusciante all reached featured list status during the past month; a record month. Well done to Drewcifer3000, Brandt Luke Zorn (who both wrote two featured lists!) CloudNine, NSR77 and Grim-Gym. Blood Sugar Sex Magik was featured on the Main Page on September 24. We collaborated on Nirvana (band), Jimmy Chamberlin, Noel Gallagher and Courtney Love during the past month. During the month of September, Dream Days at the Hotel Existence, Era Vulgaris (album), Feeder (band), Harry and the Potters, "I Don't Remember", Kicking Television: Live in Chicago, Powderfinger, "Starlight" (song)" and Weezer (1994 album) were all promoted to good article status, a total of nine articles!

New members User:Dihydrogen Monoxide and User:Connorhalsell joined the alternative music fold during September. Editors User:CloudNine

Well, it's not 'adoption' so much as mentoring. Basically it's if a new user wants someone to teach them the ins and outs of editing, and give them some tips, then they'll choose an 'adopter', who'll help them with that, and just give some help as they go along.

Hello. I love your taste in music

I would just like to say that it is AWESOME that another girl likes metal and punk music. Most girls are like. " omg that stuff is for cutters and emo people"( including my friends, i'm sorry to say). If i told my friends about the music I like i'd be kicked out of our clique faster than you can say abercrombie. It's a shame that so many people aren't accepting of it- the genres and the stereotypical crap that surrounds them. Just listen to what you want, be yourself :)

I like heaps of bands- there's an amazing Australian band called Dextors Conscience. I also listen to Darkness Dynamite, MCR, AFI, FFTL, Parkway Drive... lots of things.

oh, just a note- I'd hate to see you blocked again, so just letting you know that it's actually against our rules here to use Wikipedia like myspace. Perhaps you could ask your parents to unblock it? (You can explain to them that if you're profile's on private people can't see it unless they've added you as a friend, it's a lot safer that way). Or if not, there's Facebook, Bebo...

It would be awesome if you can get involved here though, like editing pages for bands you like?

		Wallowing in my RfA: This time it's personal...
		My sincere thanks for your support in my request for adminship, which ended with 51 supports, 0 opposes, and 0 neutral. Doubtless it was an error to put one of the government-bred race of pigmen in any position of authority, but I hope your confidence in me proves justified. Even a man pure of heart and who says his prayers at night can become a were-boar when the moon is full and sweet. Fortunately, I'm neither a were-pig nor pure of heart so this doesn't appear to be an imminent danger to Wikipedia for the moment. Fortunate as well because were-pig hooves are hell on keyboards and none too dexterous with computer mice. If ever I should offend, act uncivil, misstep, overstep, annoy, violate policy, or attempt to topple the fascist leadership of Wikipedia, please let me know so I can improve my behaviour and/or my aim. I am not an animal; I am an admin. And, of course, if there is any way in which I can help you on Wikipedia, please do not hesitate to ask me. Despite my japes, I am indeed dedicated to protecting and serving Wikipedia to the best of my foppish and impudent abilities. I will strive to be an admirable admin, shiny and cool, reasonable and beatific. Pigmanwhat?/trail 05:34, 8 November 2007 (UTC) Post Scriptum: I believe my collaged graphic at left, which incorporates the WP globe and mop image, falls under the rubric of parody for my purposes here. Or is it satire? Regardless, it's a legitimate and legally protected First Amendment usage under US law. Complaints and allegations that this is an improper "fair use" image will be entertained on my talk page, probably with fruit juice, finger food and exotic coffees.

Well done to Lincalinca, Dihydrogen Monoxide, Spebi, NSR77, and Teemu08 The Smashing Pumpkins was featured on the Main Page on October 11. We collaborated on Nevermind, The Breeders, Alternative rock, Fugazi (band) and The Downward Spiral during the past month. During the month of October, Adam Clayton, One Hot Minute and Joey Santiago were promoted to good article status. There are two articles at prose review, Butthole Surfers and Radiohead. You can help promote these articles to FA status; every little helps.
